Lucie & Simon are French & German photographers who live and work in Paris, France. They are both self-taught aritsts. Also Simon worked as first assistant to artists François-Marie Banier and Peter Lindbergh from 2004 to 2008.
Silent World by Lucie & Simon is a series of photographs capturing crowded cities with no one in it. From Paris and New York to Beijing, these photograpy masterpieces are an eerie depiction of some of the world’s most recognizable and crowded public outdoor spaces vacated and devoid of crowds. In Silent World bustling urban environments become apocalyptic ghost towns.
To catch that effect, Lucie & Simon use some camera tricks. They use neutral density filters that allow them to limit light entry without closing the aperture or increasing the shutter speed, allowing for super-long exposures which make moving objects like people and cars essentially invisible, while only immobile structures remain. Results are amazing.
