If you’re hoping for your building project to make any kind of impact in a city like Dubai, the motto is “go big or go home”.
Unveiled last Monday, the new Dubai-based residential, hotel, leisure, and retail complex from the Meydan Group called Meydan One is setting out to break a whopping five world records by the time its construction completes in 2020.
First comes the residential tower with the world’s record height and highest observation deck that spans 360 degrees. Then there’ll be the largest dancing fountain at 420 meters, longest indoor ski slope at 1.2 kilometers long, and the highest restaurant 675 meters up. This should make skiing lovers all over Dubai happy seeing as snow can be hard to come by for a Gulf emirate with summer temperatures as high as 45C or 113 F.
Given that, it should also be a treat for visitors and residents alike to cool off at the enclosed water park called Crystal Lagoon, that boasts 300 meters of sandy beaches and a marina with 100 berths. Of course because what complex is complete without a mall, there will be Meydan One Mall to house 652 stores. Just in case walking the miles of mall aisles isn’t enough exercise for the expected 78,300 residents there will also be an indoor sports facility that spans 25,000 square meters and a venue with room for 8,000 too.
The scheme is estimated to cost $8.6 billion all together to complete and its hoped to be ready in time for the UAE to host the World EXPO is 2020.
