Pink Or Blue – Kids Photography By JeongMee Yoon
JeongMee Yoon is a creative South Korean photographer. In Pink & Blue Project she inspired by her daughter’s love for the color pink at a young age. In her ongoing project, she explores the color preferences of children and their parents across different cultures and ethnic groups, probing into gender identity as a socialized construct. For this kids photography project, she creates portraits of girls with their beloved pink possessions and of boys who love blue things. Yoon’s photo series shows how deeply that idea of girls like pink and boys like blue, has been ingrained in our minds.
”My current work, The Pink and Blue Projects are the topic of my thesis. This project explores the trends in cultural preferences and the differences in the tastes of children (and their parents) from diverse cultures, ethnic groups as well as gender socialization and identity. The work also raises other issues, such as the relationship between gender and consumerism, urbanization, the globalization of consumerism and the new capitalism.”
