Transgender models have shared the spotlight in fashion, appearing on runways, in spreads, and in campaigns since long before Vanity Fair published their groundbreaking cover featuring Caitlyn Jenner.

It was not unusual to see Riccardo Tisci featuring in his ads his assistant Lea T who transformed into his muse. Then came the fabulous model out of Australia now known as Andreja Pejic who has walked down dozens of runways including those of Marc Jacobs, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Thom Browne. Last year Barneys even cast a group of seventeen trans models to work its spring campaign shoot by Bruce Weber. Now it’s & Other Stories turn to take fashion’s love affair with transgendered culture to another level.

The label owned by the H&M Group not only cast rising transgender stars like Hari Nef and Valentijin De Hingh as the stars of its latest campaign, the entire shoot was made up of an entirely trans team for creativity behind the scenes. The team included Nina Poon as their makeup artist, Amos Mac the photographer, and stylist Love Bailey. De Hingh spoke with WWD about current the current state of transgender issues that even if this is a fad, it appears that once the fad passes it will leave behind a new found awareness for the issues and stories of transgendered people.

Penjic herself has already been signed on to appear as Make Up For Ever’s next face and there are rumors swirling that beauty companies are feverishly courting Jenner. It would seem to us that if this is indeed a fashion fad, its one with serious staying power.
