For any person, being married to someone who you can love, trust and believe in, is very important. We care deeply about being with someone who can make us feel good, make us laugh and put us in a positive, happy mood as much as possible. That being said, it’s easy to find examples of when life isn’t quite as simple as we would like it to be with that person we love.
Take the story of Amy Betters-Midtvedt and her beloved husband Todd. They found that marriage takes a lot of work, effort and the ability to see past the other person’ faults. The reason why this story counts, though, is that it shows what “true” love looks like. Most people imagine romance today as managed by set-piece Instagram shots and social media viral posts. While this one did go viral, it was merely a beloved wife showing the world how much her husband means to her and does for her.
On the Love What Matters page on Facebook, Amy posted a fantastic post that details why she and Todd are so good together.
“Listen up young ones: This is what your knight in shining armor looks like when you are in your 40s.” Amy began. “Yes, that’s my amazing husband who is arriving on the scene with his credit card because what you can’t see is me, standing next to a cart super full of groceries that I couldn’t pay for because I couldn’t find my wallet.
“Not sure you can tell, but he’s smiling at me. Yup…. he had to leave work and he is smiling. His only words of admonishment were, ‘You’re not supposed to be grocery shopping; I said I’d go this week.’ Seriously.”
From the little things – like Todd making her a coffee in the morning – to running away from work to help her out with the groceries, she wanted to show that white knights come in many forms. And that all acts of kindness don’t need to be accompanied by a set piece shot at the Eiffel Tower and a debt-inducing holiday just to show the world how much you care.
She finishes with a poignant point, adding: “Watch how he treats you when Instagram isn’t looking. That is where the signs are.”
Many people go out of their way to impress the public as much as the person in their life. If you want to find love, find someone who does the little things for you without complaint rather than someone who has to make big showcases of their affection to hide that natural chemistry.
Finding love is tough. If you have something like Amy and Todd, though, you’ll be much closer to finding the happiness and joy that you so desire!
