When Linus the cat was taken to Washington State University, he was to get treatment on a whopping three brain tumors. That’s an incredible amount of work needed, with the tumors leading to a lot of pain and discomfort.
The cat went under the surgical knife to get rid of the tumors, but during surgery, there was an issue. The second tumor was removed, but the swelling of the brain became so extensive that they could not continue.
Thinking Out of the Box
The fear began to go around that Linus would not make it out of surgery. Within 20 minutes, though, he had woken up from the surgery – despite not being complete. The medical staff, due to swelling, could not replace the part of the skull they had taken off. Within 24-hours, though, this feline was looking around and moving about!
He was scheduled for a second bout of surgery, and they also had to deal with the fact his brain was no longer adequately protected. In a bid to do this, they used a 3D printer to create a ‘new’ skull for the cat. While Linus has gone through successful treatment and using pioneering medical technology to rebuild his skull, everything appears to have gone OK.
About of radiation therapy is needed, as is the need to care for its skull accordingly. However, it’s expected that over time young Linus will make a full and complete recovery – from the tumors and from the fact his skull had to be rebuilt. Amazing, right?
It just goes to show why ignoring all of those whines, groans, and pains from your cat is a dangerous thing to do!
