“No thanks!” Mother Denies Accepting Her Son’s Award for Perfect Attendance

We get pretty worked up when our little munchkins achieve something great and get rewarded for it. Their excitement is really the cherry on top! However quite unlikely, this wasn’t the case for Rachel Wright, a UK mother, who challenged the obvious by rejecting her son’s 100% attendance award.

The Irony of Life

Imagine having a son being awarded for perfect health while another son suffers from extreme disabilities. Welcome to Rachel’s ironic life. Her perspective for treating an attendance award as an unethical approach stems from this exact conflicting situation.

Wright, a 40 year old blogger, author and a mother of three, is quite confident of her notion of denying an award that demonizes the weak. Rachel was greatly appalled when she was informed by the school that her 10 year old son has been awarded for turning up in class every day over the last academic year while her elder son is severely disabled since birth with multiple brain injuries. Rachel says that being sick or having an accident cannot be considered as lack of achievement. It is just a mix of genetics and luck which none of her children can control. According to Rachel, children do not fall sick out of choice and thus doling out prizes for perfect health is one of the most ridiculous concepts.

As a mother Rachel did not want to draw a line between the two siblings, making one more able than the other by accepting such a biased reward. She is glad that Jonah completely understands and accepts her viewpoint. Thus even though he will not be joining the celebrations in school, Rachel has planned an outing for him and his other friends (100% attendees or not) for giving in his best in the previous year.

The Facebook Post

In her post, Rachel outlines that the perfect attendance award contradicted their family values that seeks as many reasons as possible to praise and reward their children but being healthy is no tone of them. Furthermore, Wright states that her son went to school every day irrespective of his decision because she decided that he will not be kept away from school. So ideally, she should be rewarded (or not) for his attendance. To top her post off she states that she will be taking Jonah out for a holiday by taking out one week from school because she values rest just as much as school. However the only reason she made such an arrangement is because she can only leave when her elder son is in school due to him requiring a 24 hour care otherwise.

At the end of her Facebook post Rachel wrote that her son Jonah has been called for a celebratory evening at the soft play center to be awarded for perfect attendance. However, she says that as much as Jonah enjoys soft play and loves playing with his friends, he won’t be joining the celebrations.

Why go Public

Rachel says that she intended to make her decision go public only because she did not want other children who couldn’t win the attendance race to demean themselves or consider it as their failure.

Rachel’s post received over 2.5 million views and above a 20,000 likes along with mixed reactions to her views. But she completely respects the diverse comments and feedbacks on her post. Rachel only suggests that schools should seek other alternatives to help families and children who give non-genuine reasons to skip school. However she has left her post open for debate respecting everyone’s viewpoints.

An Iconic Stone Circle in the British Isles Unveils a Secret Thousands of Years old.

An array of stones arranged in a square was discovered under the Avebury world heritage site considered to be the largest stone circle in the world. The discovery includes a dozen large stones, each approximately 3 meters wide and weighing 40 tons each. According to researchers, the probably indicate the location of an important house dating back to 2000 B.C.

The researchers working at the site theorize that the original site included 100 huge stones arrayed in a circle with a 330 meter diameter. 24 miles from Avebury lays Stonehenge which in comparison is about quarter of the site’s size.

More Impressive than Stonehenge

Avebury is threatening to steal Stonehenge’s thunder by offering a richer, unique and more impressive subterranean attraction – a line of stones. Unlike other stone circles in the area, the stones in the Avebury array were arranged in a square – a parameter that researchers are paying a lot of attention to. According to The Telegraph, the oddest find was a wooden house that occupied the site at around 3500 BC.

Researchers theorize that the Neolithic hut was built by Avebury’s ancestors that as time passed it become an icon of birth of the community that after 1000 years descendents constructed the monumental square around its foundations, lining with massive stones enclosing an obelisk.

Oldest structure in a prehistoric site

Dr Mark Gillings from Leicester University School of Archaeology and Ancient History says that the square has the potential to be the one of the oldest structures in the prehistoric site. “We identified and mapped a line of prehistoric stones that were concealed and buried together with locations of other stones that were destroyed. Together we identified a unique square structure in the internal southern circle.”

According to common beliefs, stone circles were designed as an assembling area for pagan ceremonies, but many of them were destroyed, probably in the mid evil era when they were associated with paganism. Gillings says “There were probably many similar stones around this area at the time. It was quite and engineering feat for the time to arrange them in such a form. It was an endeavor that demanded a lot of hard work.”

In the centuries that followed, the square was dismantled and the stones were used to construct the three impressive stone circles which still stand today. The team also uncovered evidence that lines of stones once cut across the southern inner circle, like spokes on a wheel.

Almost 100 years of research

The new finds conclude Alexander Keiller ‘s research. Dr. Joshua Polard Secretary of the Prehistoric Society and the UK editor of the Journal of Social Archaeology and an archeology professor at Southampton University commented. Keiller, originally a marmalade magnate first discovered the a curious line of standing stones next to a fallen down obelisk in 1939 and started digging (despite thinking it was a middle ages structure). Oddly enough he found mainly domestic artifacts rather than ritual ones. When World War 2 broke out, the dig was abandoned and the site all but forgotten.

Pollard said to The Telegraph: “Our careful programme of geophysical survey has finally completed the work begun by Keiller. Megalithic circles are well known from the time when Avebury was built during the late Neolithic, but square megalithic settings of this scale and complexity are unheard of.”

Dr Nick Snashall, National Trust archaeologist at Avebury, added: “This discovery has been almost eighty years in the making but it’s been well worth waiting for. The completion of the work first started by Keiller in the 1930s has revealed an entirely new type of monument at the heart of the world’s largest prehistoric stone circle, using techniques he never dreamt of.”

If She Were Alive Today. England Celebrates Lady D’s Birthday With Commemoration and Re-Dedication

Had it not been for that fatal night on the 31st of August 1997, Princess Diana may very have been with us today. The princess of the people, whom many people around the world, even today, 20 years after her death, remember more as a saint than a person. Her tragic death cut her life short at the age of 36.

A Day of Mourning

Today, people from all over England paid tribute to the late princess by covering Kensington Palace’s gates with flags, pictures of her life and memory cards. The princess’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry and the Spencer family didn’t forget her either. The two, accompanied by Kate Middleton, Prince George and Princess Charlotte and Lady Diana’s brother, the Earl Spencer gathered in a private ceremony Althorp House, where Diana is buried to rededicate her grave. The Oval Lake at the estate was recently redesigned – the first redesign in the estate in over 350 years.

Prince Harry, now aged 32 was 12 when his mother passed. As he matured, his later teens and early twenties were riddled with scandals, whom many have blamed on his mother’s death. In an interview that he gave to Newsweek the prince stated that walking behind his mother’s coffin on live-TV, was an ordeal left a negative imprint on his personality and behavior for almost 2 decades. His brother Prince William said in a different interview that the funeral was the hardest things he had ever endured. Both princes agree that today children would not have been subjected to such an ordeal.

No More!

The two princes and the British royal family (together with the English public and media outlets) have shown their disgust to paparazzi practices that they feel brought about the death of the princess. Witnessing firsthand the toll these practices had on their mother and subsequently on them, Prince William has been very protective of Kate, and the media has respected his requests.

In 2012 a French paparazzi photographer caught a frame of Kate topless and the English public were outraged and demanded the photographer be extradited to the UK and stand trial. None of the English tabloids would publish them and photographers Cyril Moreau and Dominique Jacovides couldn’t sell them. Eventually Closer magazine and a small regional paper did publish them. The owner and executive editor of Closer were tried in France, along with the former publisher of the French regional newspaper that also ran the photos and the photographers who took them. The verdict is scheduled to be given on 04 July 2017.

Still Loved

Lady D’s presence in her son’s life and the English public hasn’t ended there. Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with his mother’s engagement ring, and the radiant Duchess of Cambridge has been compared in fashion style, public appearance an charity work to the Late Princes. Additionally, William and Harry are much more popular than their father, Prince Charles, the first heir to the English Throne, and have taken much of their mother’s character and avid charity work. Persistent rumors continuously circle the queen that she plans on handing the throne over to Prince William rather than her son due to his conduct with Lady Diana those these have never been verified.

If the American public can still pinpoint where they were when JFK was murdered, the English public bear the death of Princes Diana as a national trauma.

Had it not been for that fatal night on the 31st of August 1997, Princess Diana may very have been with us today. The princess of the people, whom many people around the world, even today, 20 years after her death, remember more as a saint than a person. Her...

They Looking For Lost Uranium. What They Found Literally Electrified Them!

For three decades, since 1942 to 1972 mankind thought it beat nature when the first sustainable nuclear chain reaction was created. All this changed in 1972 when French Pierrelatte uranium enrichment facility compared samples from the Oklo Uranium mine in Gabon, on the west coast of Africa. The U isotope concentration dropped form the normal 0.72% to 0.6%. This could have meant that some isotopes made it to the wrong hands and nuclear weapons or dirty bombs could be made. The French Commission for Nuclear Energy (CEA) began to investigate. What they found was no less than dumbfounding!

The CEA ran a series of tests only to find that the two most significant isotopes of the uranium mined at Oklo showed strange results. Finding more questions than answers, the CEA investigated the uranium ore in the Oklo mine and found concentration levels as low as 0.44%. The reduction in the U isotope is the result of the process in a nuclear reactor. Eliminating all the impossible, the only answer that was left, as improbable as it sounded, was that the mine operated as a natural fission reactor that generated self-sustaining nuclear chain reactions about Earth about 2 billion years ago. Further investigations found other natural fission reactors in the area.

Natural Fission Reactors

The first nuclear power plant went online in 1951. In 1956, five years after the first nuclear powered electric plant was erected, a chemist from the University of Arkansas, Paul L. Kuroda theorized that a combination of uranium and water could become a natural fission reactor, in earth’s early history.

While examining the concentration in the Oklo mine, it was discovered that the original uranium core had higher concentration levels of the Uranium-235 – the isotope ideal to fuel a fission reaction. Isotope u-235 naturally decays into thorium and releases a neutron in the process. The released neutron races towards another U-235 atom and a fission process is commenced.

One of the reasons fission reactions are controllable today are because of low concentrations of u-235 – 0.7% on average. In comparison 4.5 billion years ago, concentration levels were much higher and broke down as time went by. Scientists claim that at a concentration level above 3.2%, probability says a reaction will continue all on its own. Therefore, a key factor that made the reaction possible was that at the time, the fissile isotope U235 made up about 3.2% of the natural uranium, which is comparable to the amount used in some of today’s reactors. It is unknown if Kuroda ever imagined he would be able to view his theory in practice, but evidently, he’s a lucky scientist!

Unique Phenomena

The Oklo, Okelobondo mines and Bangombe mines, located 35 k”m from the Oklo mines are the only known places that natural nuclear fission occurred. For almost 2 billion years it generated an average of 100 Kwh until the uranium 235 was exhausted and no more fission activity could take place. The reactor eventually slowed to a stop, leaving only a few traces behind that it ever existed – including the enigma of the “missing uranium” – the enigma that sparked the research!

For three decades, since 1942 to 1972 mankind thought it beat nature when the first sustainable nuclear chain reaction was created. All this changed in 1972 when French Pierrelatte uranium enrichment facility compared samples from the Oklo Uranium mine in...

Want To Live in America and Enjoy Canada’s Universal Health Insurance? Buy This House!

A property with entrances both from the American and Canadian side is up for sale. Customs officials and border police allow tenants to move freely inside the house as long as they stay inside or in the yard. What happens if you want to go outside?

Most people who live in a number of countries simultaneously usually have a lot of miles of their frequent flier card. Yet, there is one place on the border between the Us and Canada that enables tenants to live in both countries simultaneously, without leaving the comfort of your home.

The house is located between Beebe Plain, Vermont and Stanstead, Quebec and is now up for sale. The property, built in 1782 is 3,010 square feet is currently divided into five different units.

A Merchant’s House

The property known in the area as “Old Stone Store” was built by a merchant who wanted to sell agricultural product in Vermont and Quebec. The current owners who are in their 70’s inherited it 40 years ago. They have a dual Canadian and American citizenship and are hoping to sell the property and move to Ontario and be closer to their grandchildren.

The property is listed for $109,000 (USD) but needs about $600,000 invested in renovation. But, as the owners found out, it isn’t easy to sell a house situated on the border of two countries. Even if they are very close and friendly neighbors like the US and Canada.

Life on the Border

According to the residents, Brian and Joan DuMoulin who have grown accustomed to living on the border says that it used to be something natural and normal, but the days of crossing the border without being noticed are over. DuMoulin states 9/11 as the cause for change.

The house has two entrances, one from the Canadian side of the border and one from the American. Customs officials and border patrol officers have learnt to recognize the tenants and allow them to move freely inside the house and the yard, but limitations start when tenants try to leave the property. The rear gate (to America) is now locked for security reasons dictated by the Americans. “That’s the awkwardness” DuMoulin says “you can’t just go this way or this way, you’ve got to go through (the ports of entry) and then back through.”

Having said all that, Rosemary Lalime, the couple’s realtor said that the house has been shown to over 10 potential buyers and another six more recently. Except for one prospector, all of them were American. With the property now going viral, we expect the property to be sold in no time!

A ‘Queen B’ Breakdown – The Good The Bad and the Beautiful

35 year old Beyoncé has been running our world since 1997 when her self-formed girl band Destiny’s Child. Since then the pop diva has broken every possible record out there as a musician, has become a mother of three and half of the Carter power couple (Beyoncé  and Jay-Z), and has launched a fashion line, made guest appearances in movies (including Cadillac Records , Dream Girls and Epic), philanthropy and many other ventures.

How it all began

Beyoncé’s singing abilities were first discovered, of all places in a dance class. The dance teacher was singing something and Beyonce finished off in perfect key. She progressed to win the school talent show with John Lenon’s “Imagine” competing, mainly, against high school kids. She was 8 at the time.

That year she and met Kelly Rowland who were already friends, met LaTavia Robertson who would later form with her the original Destiny’s Child trio. The three met at an audition. They passed and in 1990, Girl Tyme – a six girl was created but failed to win reality show Star Search.

Is Game of Thrones Over? Not Yet! Here’s What to Come for the Books and Series

Are you excited for the new season of Game of Thrones? The HBO series is currently airing the seventh season, but there’s still more stories to be told. Author George R.R. Martin is still hard at work on the latest novel installment,The Winds of Winter, and fans are eagerly awaiting its publication. There’s still many stories to tell about Westeros, and a realm of unanswered questions. Let’s look at what’s to come for Game of Thrones in terms of the book and television series!

The Winds of Winter

The Winds of Winter is the sixth book in the Game of Thrones series and has been delayed several times over the years. As of 2017, fans have waited for a total six years! When GRRM first began writing the series, he envisioned it as a trilogy, and The Winds of Winter was to be the conclusion. Luckily, it’s not, and we still have this sixth book, plus a seventh, A Dream of Spring, to anticipate. GRRM has commented that he believes both of the books will be 1,500 pages each. Writing the books is a complicated process that takes time, and he doesn’t believe in outlines, saying “outlines make me lose interest

The Winds of Winter will quickly resolve the cliffhanger of the previous book, A Dance with Dragons. We know that many favorite characters will each have chapters from their point of view. GRRM has confirmed he doesn’t intend to have the characters geographically separated in the newest Game of Thrones novel. So far the list includes:

THE STARKS AND LANNISTERS

  • Sansa Stark
  • Arya Stark
  • Tyrion Lannister

THE GREYJOYS

  • Aeron Greyjoy
  • Theon Greyjoy
  • Victarian Greyjoy

OTHER CHARACTERS

  • Arianne Martell
  • Barristan Selmy
  • White Walkers/Others

Since the publication of A Dance with Dragons, Game of Thrones reference books have been published to tide fans over. These titles include the series’ book of maps entitled The Lands of Ice and Fire, and the World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones. If you want to eat like a Westeros citizen, there’s even Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Companion Cookbook!

Game of Thrones on HBO

While HBO is airing the seventh season of Game of Thrones, the network is currently thinking about the eighth season. The seventh season uses plot points and outlines supplied by Martin to go along with the grand story of the books, and not even the actors know what will happen to their characters in the future!

This will be the last season of the show, and should hopefully bring everything to a satisfying close. We don’t know much about this season, but it’s confirmed that it will be six episodes long. The last fans heard, the final season of Game of Thrones could air in 2019! Talk about a long wait! Producer Benioff describes the eighth season as the continuation and conclusion of “one long story.” He says that the show isn’t like others where writers and producers try to figure out what happens season-to-season. He added, “ From pretty close to the beginning, we talked about doing this in 70 – 75 hours, and that’s what we’ll end up with.”

Even though fans may hate the idea of saying goodbye to their favorite characters and locations, that’s not the end of the story! What’s next for the series?

The Future of Game of Thrones

After both books are published and the show ends, is this the end of Game of Thrones? We doubt it! HBO has confirmed that they’re exploring four separate spin-offs. GRRM has said that these will all be prequels, which will allow fans to delve even deeper into the Game of Thrones canon. The spinoffs are described as “new stories set in the secondary universe of Westeros.” Two of the shows were originally pitched in August 2016 and Martin is working on the scripts with a team of writers. GRRM stresses, however, that the idea is not to all of the shows but the ones that work. He’s also teased that a fifth script is in development. So fans, you think you know Westeros? Get ready for even more!

Is the Era of King James Over?

“If there was one thing that stands out to you about them (Golden State Warriors), whether it’s speed or whatever, what would it — what was it for tonight?” a reporter asked Lebron James after game 1 press.
“KD”. King James concluded.

Maybe for the first time in his career, one could see a micro-crack in his armor. After game number 2, it isn’t getting any better. The King Cavalier gave it all in game 2, 29 points, 14 assists (10 in the first 2 quarters) and 11 rebounds but even a king cavalier can’t defeat these Warriors alone.

It’s not that the two teams aren’t familiar with each other. This is the third consecutive finals with the teams claiming a championship each in the previous two episodes. But this Warriors team is different. They are faster, more versatile and with endless amounts of energy and creativity. The Cavs and the King are like sailors trying to clear the water from a leaking hull. It worked for the first few minutes in game 1 and the entire first half of game 2. Despite the tables turning and the Warriors turning over 20 possessions vs. the Cavs 9 turn overs (4:20 in game 1) after half time, Lebron was drained and the Warriors took over to defeat the Cavs, including Curry scoring after taking Lebron for a one on one.

Not What We Expected

There have been many team and personal rivalries throughout NBA history. The Celtics vs The Lakers, Bird vs. Magic in the 80’s, Detroit Pistons vs. Chicago Bulls, but after game 2, this media flamed rivalry seemed so artificial. We waited the entire season, 82 games and the entire conference playoff series for this climax! We waited for the Cavs and the Warriors to square off for the third (and possibly last) time. The first two episodes of this trilogy rivalry between the Cavs and the Warriors were close. Each team had its stronger and weaker points against each other and each took a title, when it was somewhat an underdog.

And then entered Kevin Durant and the first jump ball (and the second) and we knew it was over before it started. The known x-factor came into his element. Unlike his time in OKC with Russel Westbrook, with Steve Kerr on the lines, Curry and a different basketball mindset Durant is the best show in town. Either helping Klay Thompson recover his shooting skills or giving Curry an assist option for a graceful dunk or to get it back outside for a three pointer. In the first two games of the series Durant scored 71 points, 22 rebounds and 14 assists.

King James stated after the match: “You take one of the best teams that we had ever assembled last year, that we saw in the regular season and in the post-season, and then in the off-season you add a high-powered offensive talent like that and a great basketball IQ like that, that’s what stands out. I mean, it’s no if, ands, or buts. It is what it is. We got to figure out how to combat that, which is going to be a tough challenge for us. But that’s what stands out.”

The Warriors now hold an NBA record of 14:0 in this playoff season, after breaking the league win record last year (and losing the championship). When Tyronn Lue said flatly during his game 1 post game remarks “They’re the best I ever seen,” it wasn’t defeatism, it was gradually coming to grips with the truth. With KD in the mix, the Warriors are currently simply too good.

Trump in Israel: The Most Embarrassing Moment So Far…

President Trump’s visit to Israel has just begun, but already things are going very wrong for the small country’s reputation. After a leading radio station was too keen to interview the president and ended up interviewing an impostor, the reception at the airport wasn’t much better.

During the official reception at the airport many politicians and public figures lined up to greet the American President. Among them was the Israeli controversial Member of Parliament Oren Hazan.

Trump slowly made his way down the line to meet over a dozen people, all of whom seemed to understand the protocol that you have just a few seconds to say hello. Trump’s encounter with Hazan was definitely bizarre. As you can see from the video, Hazan even pulls Trump in close with a dominant and overpowering handshake, something that Trump has used repeatedly on people.

Hazan then broke protocol completely and took his cell phone from his pocket and insisted on taking a selfie photo with the President. Israeli Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu who was with his back to the occurrence became aware of it and tried to shove Hazan’s hand away and disturb the photo but was too late.

Hazan was quick to upload the photo to his twitter account.

Shocking! Israeli Reporter too Keen on Interviewing Trump

As President Donald Trump visits Israel, the local media is on extra high alert. As always, every reporter wants to be the one who interviews the leader of the free world, despite common knowledge that interviews with the president are scheduled in advance, and the president seldom gives interviews to local media outlets.

Thinking that he is the luckiest reporter in Israel, Arel Segal, was sure that Trump was willing to give him an interview while being on Airforce 1 while enroute to Israel from Saudi Arabia. Prior to the interview, his co-reporter was sceptic regarding the interview and the technical ability to actually conduct an interview from the plane, Segal claimed it was possible and the interview started.

The interview

The interview began fairly well with the reporter and the President exchanging formalities, but got out of hand after a few seconds during the third question. President Trump explained his desire to broker a peace deal and mentioned different ideas including one from an Israeli radical right winged public figure. At the end of the question the interview that lasted 90 seconds was terminated.

Turns out that the “president” was an impostor that had nothing to do with the official presidential delegation and was definitely not the President himself.

Segal later acknowledged the blunder and said that while he understood during the third answer that he was being played, he feared to confront the impostor and terminated the interview very politely stating that it was a very delicate situation and he was balancing between the fact that he was dealing with an impostor and the slim chance that it could have been the president and he didn’t want to risk US-Israel relations.

Cristiano Ronaldo

If there is one debate you can count on finding everywhere around the globe – it’s Ronaldo vs. Messi. Their professional rivalry has elevated their teams and made football a better and more interesting game. No two players could be more different. One is tall the other is short, one plays for Barcelona and their tiki-taka, and the other has a team built around him to maximize his productivity. One is an artist with the ball and you never know what to expect of him (except the exceptional) while the other is an amazing athlete and a focused personality. We are a lucky bunch to have the privilege to enjoy these two artists throughout their entire career.

But only one has done the unthinkable – win the EUFA Champions League Cup back to back. In honor of his extraordinary achievement, we give you Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2016-7 season in color.
