Instagrammer Turns Sashimi into Jaw-Dropping Works of Art

You may have memories as a child of your mother telling you, “Don’t play with your food!” Well, you might want to share mikyoui00’s Instagram profile with her to show her just what you can do if you make playing with your food a regular practice.

“See, Mom, maybe I could have had over 33,000 followers like mikyoui00 does if only I had been allowed to fool around a bit with what’s on my plate!”

You’ve Never Seen Sliced Fish Like This

Well, next time you’re feeling up to a fancy restaurant, maybe just light a few candles and try replicating one of mikyoui00’s intricate designs instead. He has taken the art of cooking to a whole different level with how he uses sashimi, a Japanese delicacy of sliced raw fish or meat.

He doesn’t just make neat designs; he creates fantastic creatures, sets beautiful scenes. He forms angelic beings, positions rock stars with guitars, and sets a snowboarder on a ride down a mountain.

How It All Started

What’s incredible is that mikyoui00 isn’t a famous chef; in fact, he’s not a chef by profession at all. He simply loves to cook at home – and is great at it, too! – and has a particular flair for aesthetics. He began by using these fun, artistic techniques to teach his son how to make sashimi and would post each one on Instagram with the hashtag #SashimiArt.

My job has nothing to do with art or design. I really started working with fish during the summer of last year,” mikyoui00 told Nippon. “I wanted to teach my son about how to slice and prepare sashimi, and over the course of teaching him, I ended up really getting into it myself.”

What Goes Into Sashimi Art

Now, preparing sashimi isn’t as simple as just slicing up some meat or fish; it involves several different techniques, like the Sugata-zukuri cut, for instance, which involves slices that are arranged and designed within the fish, or usu-zukuri slices, where it’s sliced so thin that they’re almost translucent. You’ll find these and many other techniques in mikyoui00’s posts.

Other Instagrammers attempt to do similarly with their sashimi, but their floral spreads or shades of colors are nothing compared to mikyou000’s actual works of art. In fact, if they would keep from going bad, you could almost begin framing them and putting them in museums! You can see his creations for yourself on his Instagram page.

Breakthrough: Sending Sound On Laser

Researchers at MIT have discovered a way to send audio signals directly to someone’s ear at a distance using laser beams. The system uses a photoacoustic effect in which water vapor in the air absorbs light then forms sound waves.

This research could pave the way for allowing audible messages to be sent to agents, spies or possibly law enforcement, warning them of encroaching danger.

How It Works:

Researchers used a laser beam that fired at wavelengths absorbed by water.  By sweeping the beam at the speed of sound, they were able to generate sound that can only be heard at distance from the transmitter.

After many tests, they discovered this would allow a message to be sent to a specific individual instead of just anyone who happened to be passing by the laser path.

The scientists said this system can be used in dry locations because, at any given time, there is moisture in the air, especially around people.  Also, the lasers are very safe to one’s ears, eyes, and skin while localizing an audible signal to an individual at any setting.

They also discovered a method that works by modulating rather than sweeping a beam.  The traditional modulation method offers sound with a much higher fidelity where the laser sweeping offers a sound with louder audio.

To date, the system will work at more than 8 feet or 2.5 meters.  Scientists are currently working to increase the distance and believe they will eventually have a very significant commercial technology for future use.

We look forward to hearing more about this new and exciting technology, so stay tuned!

Getaways To Escape The Snow

If you have worn layers on top of layers and shoveled snow until you are absolutely tired of it, then it’s probably time to take a break. Traveling to somewhere that it sunny and warm may sound quite expensive, but it doesn’t have to be.

There are so many countries and cities around the world that you can explore during the months of winter without breaking the bank. Take a look at these affordable locations and prepare to swap your mittens out for a nice cool umbrella drink.

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is very balmy and hot during the summer, but luckily for you, the temperature drops to an easy average of 80 degrees between the months of November and April. If you’ve been looking to go on a vacation to Asia, the city of Bangkok is much more affordable than other, more popular locations.

Taxis will charge less than $2 a mile and a meal at a restaurant is usually about $1.50. Hotel prices are also exceptionally low, with an average ranging from about $20-$100. Another plus is that you can take part in the beautiful Chinese New Year festivities they have in December.

Peru

Peru is a gorgeous, exotic and affordable place to have a warm getaway in the winter. The village is located a couple of hours southward of Lima. It has lush cliffs, incredible wildlife and blue water all around it. Here, you can explore miles of amazing tree lines and sand dunes.

Meals, as well as cocktails, are very fresh and incredibly affordable. An entire day of eating out will cost you about $20, complemented by drinks that cost below a dollar on average. It costs about $25-$125 to stay a night in Peru.

Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

The Yucatan Peninsula is Mexico’s hidden gem. It has beaches of white sand and the water extends further than the eye can see. You will completely forget about the snow at home. This island has a very slow-paced vibe which is completed by the fact that there are no vehicles that move faster than golf carts because cars are not allowed there.

There are miles and miles of coast just waiting to be explored either by snorkeling or kayaking. There are also a lot of amazing deals on dining and hotels because it isn’t as much of a tourist attraction as other places in Mexico. You will save a lot on transportation because you will most likely be walking everywhere.

An average meal ticket costs about $12 and on average, a night a hostel costs about $115.

Galveston, Texas

If you want a tropical getaway but do not want to leave the United States, then Galveston Island, Texas is just what you need. Galveston is about 50 miles from Houston so it is easy to find affordable plane tickets.

It never snows in Galveston as the average temperature in winter is 65 degrees. This small island is just 27 miles long, there’s just enough for you to explore through an extended weekend. Because the coastline is so long and the temperature is perfect, you will believe that you’re in the tropics. It costs about $150 a night to sleep in Galveston and about $10-$45 to have a meal.

Hawaii

If you are looking to travel within America, Hawaii is a great option for you. Some cities in Hawaii are quite expensive, but there are also some sweet and more affordable cities and beaches. Also, you will save some money by traveling between the months September and December, before the holidays, because after that, the prices of flights and hotels will rise considerably.

The prices of plane tickets in Hawaii and 40% more expensive during the peak season than they are during the offseason; hotel prices can rise up to 50%.

OMG: After 66 Years Longest Fingernails Have Been Cut

For many years Shridhar Chillal the 82-year-old man from Pune, India had made news as the owner of the longest fingernails on a single hand. He was recently in the news after cutting his famous nails at the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not at the Times Square, New York, US. Chillal had been growing his nails since he was only 14 years old.

He never thought the nails would grow so long and he will be in the news for this spectacular feature. Over the years, Chillal grew his nails so long and had been recognized by many world record archives.

At the last measurement, his nails were discovered to be about 909.6 cm (29 ft. 10.1 in) in total. This is about the length of a standard bus in London. The individual nails were measured and the lengths are as follows:

Little finger: 179.1 cm

Ring finger: 181.6 cm

Middle finger: 186.6 cm

Index finger: 164.5 cm

Thumb: 197.8 cm

At his first appearance in the Guinness World Records in 1979, Chillal’s nails were found to have a combined measurement of 219.7 cm (86.5 inches). At the Science & Stuff event recently organized, the audience was educated about fingernails and how they can grow to be so long.

Chillal in many interviews has expressed his joy at this accomplishment, however; the fingernails have had an impact on his life. He has had to be very careful when sleeping or moving around because the nails are very delicate and can easily break.

He works as a photographer back in India. It has been a long-time passion, and he has been able to cope with his photography job by using a special handle to protect his nails while working.

Asked if he had faced criticisms, he confirms that there was stiff opposition from his parents while he was growing up. They had the opinion that he would not be able to work if he continued growing his nails. Over the years, the amazing length of the nails made his hands quite handicapped because he couldn’t use them due to the weight of the nails.

When asked why he cut the nails eventually, he confirmed that the nails had caused his him to feel a lot of pain at his wrists and fingers. He claims the tips of the nails hurt all the time. Chillal has made a name for himself in the world of weird news. The nails have been cut and will be displayed at the Times Square, Ripley’s Believe IT or Not.

Huawei Winning Over Samsung? Foldable Smartphones Are Close

As the smartphone industry continues to change and alter at barely believable pace, many new ideas get floated constantly. One of the most commonly asked for smartphone changes is to create a folding smartphone. While some don’t really see the benefit of this kind of hardware, it would appear that the good folks at Huawei can see immense potential in such a development.

Currently, in the race with Samsung to make the first foldable smartphone, it appears that the race is on to make this technology come to life. The aim is to have it out by November 2018, apparently with the Chinese giant working with Korea’ LG Electronics to make a quality handset.

The aim would be to have it fold inwards to make sure that it’s a more compact style of phone. Many people find that smartphones are simply too bulky for some of their dress styles, and this has become a popular solution to help them get around that problem.

While the Axon M from ZTE launched in late 2017, it wasn’t a true folding smartphone; instead of using dual displays kept together with a hinge. The actual folding smartphone is not here yet, though it’s hardly a million miles away from being ready.

With the news that Huawei has signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement to start developing the parts with domestic and international developers, there’s a lot of interesting news coming out of this. Headed up by the Shanghai Research and Development team for Huawei, this could really go some way to developing a whole new style of a smartphone in a short space of time.

While it’s not yet sure if Huawei will push our production or wait for some consumer feedback first, it’s safe to say that the pathway to folding smartphones just became a little clearer along the way.

Watch: A Crazy A** Guinness World Record Breaker

Now, a quick disclaimer before I go any further: this video put me into a state of shock. If you are like me and feel the need to say “Don’t look down” when at the top of a flight of stairs, nevermind any real height, I’d perhaps advise some caution on watching this.

It’s absolutely outrageous, and a video that requires immense fortitude just to watch. Now, I know they wouldn’t show the video if the participant had gotten into trouble…but still. The sheer scale of the height mixed in with the ludicrous nature of the walk itself makes me feel a little ill.

The video takes in daredevil and all-around cool guy Pablo Signoret. Pablo is a legend of the game and is one of the most daring people that I have ever come across. By walking between two massive mountains and a river on just this tiny bit of rope, I think it’s safe to say that he’s proven his mettle.

Insane

Walking it totally blindfolded, too, he goes from one end to the next in the most outrageous manner possible. I’m not even joking when I say that I struggle to walk down a street with the same coolness and accuracy, so it’s a feat indeed.

Honestly, though…. what could possess someone to take on such a risk!?

It’ a truly epic watch, and one that I recommend everyone takes the time to look into. The sheer nerves it would take to carry out such an event is truly mystifying. I was so impressed with his quality, and really found it to be one of the most impressive videos that I’ve seen in some time.

But yeah, you wouldn’t find me near a height of such barely understandable magnitude. What an experience it must be (if you like to terrify yourself with fear of death). Show this to anyone in your social group who, like me, cannot contain their fear at the slightest drop.

Do You Vacation Like The Celebs?

When it’s time to go on vacation, we try and find a good combination of location Vs. price. It’s obvious that we try as much as we can to have a vacation experience that will last until our next, so sometimes the price is not as important as fun. Some of these celebrities have the same thoughts when picking a vacation destination.

The only difference is that their choices are not as hard as ours. For one, they have more money. Second, they vacation more often than we do, so they can allow themselves to have a “simple” vacation now and then.

Here are some of the locations you can choose from and maybe get a glimpse of a celebrity or feel like one.

Sophie Turner

From the cold lands of Westeros to the sunny beaches of Coco Prive, a private resort in the Maldives, where no King of the North would be able to survive. We know Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones, but soon enough we will be seeing much more of her, as future productions will be set free at cinemas near you.

Let her rest now, because she is going to be a very busy lady in the coming months running around the country and world for these upcoming films:
Josie and Girl Who Fell From the Sky and Time Freak and the anticipated X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Don’t finish your Martini yet, there’s more!

A Poltergeist in a Chinese Supermarket? See for Yourselves

When we go through our daily shopping, we rarely expect anything of note or interest to happen. A conversation with an old school friend and a frivolous purchase of a new appliance bought at s sale is the most common way for the day to be exciting, right?

Well, for one woman in China, things went a little hectic for her on a typical day around the store looking at the deals she could snap up. As she made her way through the supermarket on a normal day, everything is serene and normal. As the video footage shows, the woman is just walking along in the supermarket when an item falls off the shelf behind her.

It just falls – she never goes near it, never touches it, nothing. It just falls and hits the ground. So, she decides to do the good thing and help out the staff by placing the item back on the shelf where it belonged. At that point, things got weird.

As she placed the item on the shelf, her entire body falls into a locked mode. It’s like someone hit the Off switch on her spine. She just stops moving, and everything in her hands that she was carrying falls to the floor. She stands for a few seconds before she begins to seriously convulse and then just starts to shake and move around severely.

She falls to her knees, and a blonde woman runs over to her to try and help her out. Trying to work out what is going on, the woman tries to calm the affected party down. At that point, though, the woman lets out an unnaturally, ungodly, scream into the air – it’s deeply haunting and soon alerts the entire supermarket as to what is going on.

The woman helping her is visibly shaken and falls to the floor with terror when she screams out. A man then appears to try and help her out, especially as she starts to make noises that sound like someone choking. As he tries to help her out, though, she lets out another terrifying scream and really makes everyone wonder what is happening.

A man in black approaches her and sits with her, trying to calm her down. Two other people help to keep her arms at peace, and they continue to calm her down. Without any explanation, though, people in the local area now believe that she was possessed by some kind of spirit.

They believe that the man in the black was able to ‘exorcise’ the demon from her. Even weirder, when she is ‘exorcised’ and falls to the ground afterward, you generally see things all around the place begin to move and shudder around – like a massive gust of wind blows through the store.

Is it all a well-put-together scam? A great piece of amateur artwork? Or is this woman generally going through some kind of possession when out on her weekend shop? You can decide!

Why Over-40s Should Give Up Ibuprofen

When we have a sore tooth, a sore jaw, a sore back…sore anything, inflammation is often part of the problem. This is why so many take anti-inflammatory and pain management tablets- Ibuprofen. These over-the-counter medications are taken by millions of people every day and can help us to get over a pain to get back on with our days. However, it turns out that Ibuprofen might not be such an advisable product to take for those over the age of 40…

Some studies show that it could have toxic properties for heart muscles, meaning that anyone over the age of 40 should take a deeper look at what they are taking. The FDA found in 2015 that ibuprofen comes with a few ingredients in there that, broadly, could cause problems with the heart. It could be even related to heart attacks and strokes – making it especially worthwhile dodging in your 40s!

What’s better – a sore head or a dead heart?

Many people instead turn to taking solutions like turmeric, instead, offering anti-inflammatory properties without that big warning needed on the bottle. Turmeric is a great solution for this, and can easily be taken due to its high polyphenol count making it very good for the body indeed.

Simply mix it in with a cup of warm water, some honey and some lemon juice and voila! It can be an excellent way to help alleviate that pain without taking in anything that, broadly, our bodies should be avoiding. Ginger, too, is a good source thanks to the fact it can stop inflammation at its source thanks to the power antioxidant effects, ensuring that inflammation and joint acidity can both be minimized and, when possible, neutralized entirely.

Another good and natural source is to use capsaicin, which is found in red peppers. It’s a very easy product to apply, either done so in a cream or a gel form, and can be a great way to help release pain in our joints and muscles.

So, while there are so many natural options to fight inflammation and give your body the help it needs to stay strong and healthy, you should empty your cupboard of such synthetic solutions. As ever, be sure to go and check with a medical professional and make sure you are making the right choice – but, past the age of 40, ibuprofen should probably be minimized and, if possible, not taken at all for the foreseeable future.

Community Helps WW2 Hero Keep Moving with Chair Assistance

Time catches up with us all – even heroes who helped us all to be here today. When Harvey Djerf, 95, began to struggle to make his walks in the morning, his local Minnesota community noticed him. He goes for a walk twice a day to try and stay in shape, but it’s beginning to get a little tougher on him – he wasn’t resting enough, for a start.

Neighbours got together and started to put little chairs out on the lawn for him to make sure he could take a little break as he walked. At the time of writing, 12 chairs in total had been placed out for him to sit down and use when he was on the move.

Speaking about the act of kindness, Harvey was delighted.

”It’s kind of snowballed now. I’m up to 12 chairs now. They must’ve seen that I was pausing and catching my breath and that’s when they probably took pity on me.” he said.

On warm days, people come and serve him little lemonade and cookies to help him make sure he could keep on going. How awesome is that!?

He’d served as part of the 126th Anti-Aircraft Gun Battalion, who played a major role in taking out German bombers. For 33 months, he served across Europe before coming back home to the US. Having stayed in the Plymouth area for over six decades, he has long been a well-loved part of the community and they stayed in a home that he and his wife had built. Until his wife had a stroke and they moved into assisted living, they had stayed in the same spot.

What kind of nice gestures have you seen in your local community to warm the heart? Anything in particular?

Cracker Barrel Lovers Tour Every US Venue

As one of the most enjoyable cracker venues in the word, Cracker Bar restaurants are up there with the best drive-through foods that you get to enjoy. However, one couple decided that they loved Cracker Barrel so much, they would make a trip to every single Cracker Barrel restaurant in the whole of the USA!

The Happy Couple’s Adventure Begins

Ray and Wilma Yoder of Goshen, Indiana, are happily married farmers who have been together for the best part of 60 years. As Ray, an RV driver delivering them to dealerships and finding buyers, drove around the States for years he got used to the idea of stopping in for a quick bite to eat.

He stopped at a Cracker Barrel nearly 40 years ago, and says that at first he “wasn’t too impressed” but as he continued to use them as he drove around, it became a familiarly enjoyable experience for him.

With one in most towns, it became easy to eat in this way; always capable of finding one even in the smallest of towns. After years of eating them, though, and their kids grew older Wilma started to join him when he was on the road. They would go to all manner of Cracker Barrels together, and then decided that they should go and visit them all!

A Quest Complete

With the help of their daughter, Doris, the couple began to track down all of the best options for them to go and look at, divulging details on everything from store opening times to locations so that her parents could fulfil their wish of visiting every last one of them.

Wilma, sadly, suffered a brain aneurism and they had to take a year out from their trip to let her recover. Ray takes care of all the driving and instead drives around in a smart Ford Fusion rather than a big, bulky RV.

So far, they’ve finished their quest, having visited all 645 Cracker Barrels across the 44 US states that have one.

If you could only ever eat from one restaurant again, what would be your choice of food?

Disney Storylines that Should’ve Been Different

Peter Pan

We all love a classic like Peter Pan, but it wasn’t always suppose to be like we know it. At first, Disney animators wanted to make the whole story to go through Nana the dog’s eyes, plus to leave out John Darling completely. And that is not all; How do you feel about Peter Pan kidnapping Wendy so she could be a mother to Lost Boys? Yeap! This idea came up by Walt Disney himself. It is a children’s movie so this is some pretty dark stuff. In the end, Walt came to his sense and threw those ideas away, and made the classic we all know and love. He said:”We ought to get right into the story itself, where Peter Pan comes to the house to get his shadow. That is where the story picks up. How Peter came to be is really another story.”

The Lion King

King of the Beasts and King of the Kalahari were the first ideas for the name for this iconic movie back in the ’90s. The title was not the only thing that was different. Disney executive described the original script to be “more than a passing resemblance to an animated National Geographic special.” At first, Scar supposed to be a baboon and Rafiki a cheetah. The story, according to animators, was going to be about a war between baboons and lions. In the end, luckily, we were given a Hamlet of the desert.

Aladdin

Disney often has a weird habit of leaving out mothers from the story or in the “best” case, kill them off. In the first, original script, Aladdin had a mother character. But, that didn’t last long. Chairman at that moment was Jeffrey Katzenberg and he said:”Eighty-six the mother. The mom’s a zero.” Also, the fictional city of Agrabah wasn’t always the place where the story was set. It was supposed to be Baghdad until 1991 when the Gulf War started so Disney producers needed to change that.

Frozen

After almost 80 years of trying, Disney finally managed to make a movie out of Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Snow Queen. It wasn’t simple at all. Until 2008 the queen was using her powers to kill people, and the movie was pretty dark, especially for children. At first, Megan Mullally was supposed to be Elsa, but in the end, the physical inspiration was Bette Midler. The movie itself had nothing to do with sisters. The main story was about romance and it was showing Elsa as an unsympathetic villain. In 2012, director and screenwriter Jennifer Lee came up with the idea of how to revolutionize the story, so she made Anna and her relationship with her sister, Olaf as a fun sidekick and Hans as a villain.

Pocahontas

Flit and Meeko are Pocahontas’s sidekicks. They get along very well and are best friends. They were not alone in the original story because there was a third animal voiced by John Candy and it was a turkey, Redfeather. Flit and Meeko were left alone in 1994 when Candy died. Redfeather was left out and producers also muted Flit and Meeko who had voices at first.
