The Stars Of “Crocodile Dundee”, Today!

Released in 1986, Crocodile Dundee became a smash hit worldwide, becoming the second highest grossing film in the US box office that year, only behind Tom Cruise’s Top Gun. Let’s take a look at where the cast of Crocodile Dundee is today.

The Oscar-nominated movie was a landmark achievement in Australian cinema and transformed its star Paul Hogan from local celebrity to international superstar.

Writer and star of the film, Hogan, envisioned the picture to be “Australia’s first proper movie… a real, general public, successful, entertaining movie”. It may be surprising to hear that even making the film was a risky affair due to its relatively unknown cast and limited $10 million budget.

However, the risk paid off handsomely as it grossed $328 million worldwide after spending nine consecutive weeks atop the US box office. The film’s success led to two, albeit less successful sequels. In its review, the New York Times described it as a “sort of sweet-tempered, common-sensical Rambo” and labeled it the “movie phenomenon of the year.”

See what Crocodile Dundee is up to now:

What Is “Bandersnatch”? Here’s Why You Should Watch It

If you’ve been online in the past few days, chances are you’ve heard about the latest obsession from viewers of the Black Mirror Netflix series. We give you everything you need to know about the interactive special which the internet can’t stop talking about.

While fans of Black Mirror await its fifth season, the creators of the show released an interactive film titled Bandersnatch which has captured the attention of the internet and created debate whether it is a film or a game.

Set mostly in 1984, the film follows a young video game programmer named Stefan Butler (Fionn Whitehead), who is programming his own interactive video game called Bandersnatch which in turn is based off a novel by the same name by author Jerome F. Davies. As the story progresses, Butler begins to question his reality in the disturbed Black Mirror-style the show is renown for.

Arguably the most unique aspect of the special is that during different points of the episode, viewers encounter a “choose your own adventure” option where they are forced to make choices which affect the outcome of the story. Each time a decision is offered, viewers are given 10-seconds to choose which option to go with.

These choices include seemingly inconsequential things like choosing which cereal Butler eats, what kind of music he listens to, or more vital ones which determine how he reacts to certain situations. In each instance, a choice is automatically selected should the viewer fail to make a decision within the allotted 10-seconds.

Netflix announced that there are more than 1 trillion choice variations viewers can make for the film. The story has an approximate running time of 90-minutes which can vary for viewers based on their choices throughout the film. However, if a viewer takes the quickest route without opting for do-overs, they can get through the film in just 40-minutes.

Although some choices affect the story to a larger degree than others, everytime a choice is made, the story is nevertheless affected in some capacity. For example, when the viewer chooses which cassette tape Butler listens to, the music in the episode immediately parallels that in the scene. Each and every choice leads to other choices later on in the story, as well as to an ending. Netflix has stated there are “five main endings with multiple variants of each”.

Since the special was released on December 28th, viewers have debated whether Bandersnatch is a game or a video. Many argue that due to the interactive nature of the special it is more of a video than a film, while others decry their lack of emotional investment into the characters and events, unlike other Black Mirror episodes due to requiring to be focused on decision making throughout the video.

If users, however, prefer to watch it like a film, they can allow the 10-second timer to rundown each time and allow an option to automatically be selected for them. Netflix has not revealed how the choice is made when users do not select a choice, therefore it remains a mystery whether it is random or guided to an ending.

The fifth season of Black Mirror has been announced but due to Bandersnatch the release date has been pushed back to later in 2019.

For those unafraid of spoilers, Forbes created a walkthrough for how to navigate to all five possible endings.

6 Ordinary People Who Hit Viral Stardom In 2018

This time last year, you never heard of the eye-roll student or jumped out of a car to dance to a Drake song. However, people such as Harriet Ellis and comedian Shiggy have been part of 12 months filled with memes and viral content that has kept the public laughing all year.

Social media would have been a more somber place without them. For most of them, it was a brief moment in the spotlight, but for others, it led to a career boost. Here’s how viral fame positively affected some of the biggest stars of social media in 2018.

The Student Who Rolled Her Eyes All The Way To Stardom

Harriet Ellis reportedly had marriage proposals, was spotted by fans in supermarkets, and even had a stranger offer to send her money (which she declined) after her fifteen minutes of fame. How did it happen, she was caught on camera rolling her eyes behind ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage during a TV political debate.

“It was something that was genuinely, truly me and there’s no better reason to go viral than by being yourself,” she told BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat. “I wasn’t being mean or doing anything embarrassing.”

Harriet noted the only real change to her life was that she got more followers on Twitter. But the 21-year-old says her days of rolling her eyes at former politicians behind their backs are behind her as she heads in a new direction with her future. “I don’t want to get involved in politics again, I want to live a quiet life. I’m going to be a teacher next year, I just want to change the world through teaching, rather than through politics.”

The Singer Whose Ye Is Different To Your Ye

Warning: This video contains strong language

It’s is nothing short of astonishing where one Instagram post can get you. For singer Osh, he somehow Instagrammed his way to a record deal with Sony Music. He posted a video of himself singing his track “My Ye Is Different“, which later went viral and was even made into a meme.

“At the time I didn’t imagine it would do what it’s done,” he told BBC Newsbeat. “But now that it has happened I’m not surprised because I realized that this song is good.”

Osh later released a full version of his track – complete with a music video – at the end of November. The singer said he wanted people to “laugh and smile” when they heard the song, but he had no intention of stopping the hard work now that he’d found fame. “If it’s meant to be then it will be but if not then not. Just keep grinding,” he said.

The Tweet That May Have Changed Your Chips

Have you tried chips from KFC recently? If you have and were satisfied with the flavor, then Charlie Burness’s tweet from 2014 might be responsible for it. KFC found Charlie’s tweet – which said its fries were so bad, the only reason people liked its food was for its chicken – and cleverly used it to promote its new chip recipe.

“Life is too short for bad food,” Charlie told BBC Newsbeat in November. “Everyone knows they’ve got a reputation for not delivering on the fries. They’re kind of soggy like they’ve been reheated as soon as you get them.”

KFC’s new chips are nowadays made from spuds with the skin left on and are chunkier. In December Charlie said she’d actually not tasted the new ones yet.

The Club Couple Who Launched A Thousand Memes

Club photographers have an eye for capturing the best (and worst) of nightlife, however, when David Wilkinson took a photo of Lucia Gorman in Milk nightclub in Edinburgh she just looked a bit, well, bored. “When I took the picture, it was just a quick snap before I left to go home,” he told BBC Newsbeat in September.

“I don’t like just taking pictures of people smiling. I like to notice the little details, so when I saw it I thought this definitely needs to go up. The day that it blew up it was my birthday, but I actually got more messages about the picture than I did about my birthday so it was quite weird.”

Lucia said she was most likely ready to go home when the photo was taken, by which point she would “nod at anything”. And Patrick, the young man in the photo, said he just regretted wearing that shirt.

The Man Who Banged His Head And Became A UK Icon

Warning: This video contains strong language

Who’d have thought you could make thousands by from getting hit by a cyclist? Well, not everyone gets hit like Ferdi Coming Fast. Ferdi went viral after he growled at a stranger who crashed into him on a pavement while he was changing a tire on a car.

He reportedly confirmed to Reece Parkinson on 1Xtra that he’d earned more than £10,000 since the clip went viral – although he’s still working as a framer. Ferdi even released a single in which he not only tackled the problem of speeding cyclists but also recommended people forget the other pressing British issue – Brexit.

The Comedian Who Danced His Way Into A Drake Video

Warning: This video contains strong language

Alright, we understand US comedian Shiggy isn’t technically an ordinary person, however, we couldn’t help but give him a shout out. Now cast your mind back to the summer of 2018 and you may recall people jumping out of their cars to dance to Drake’s “In My Feelings“.

Well, the viral sensation all started with Shiggy who posted a video of himself dancing to the Drake song and asked others to get involved. Soon, including Will Smith, took on the #InMyFeelingsChallenge and the craze went viral.

“It was honestly 100% spontaneous,” he told BBC Newsbeat at the time. “It wasn’t even meant to be this big or get to the level it’s at where everybody is doing it.”

Shiggy admitted seeing his mum do the dance he created was the highlight of the experience at the time. After the dance went viral, Shiggy eventually appeared in Drake’s official video for the song.

This time last year, you never heard of the eye-roll student or jumped out of a car to dance to a Drake song. However, people such as Harriet Ellis and comedian Shiggy have been part of 12 months filled with memes and viral content that has kept the public...

These A-List Stars Have Trouble Getting New Roles

We might love them on screen, but as it turns out, they are a hot potato behind the scenes, and you’d be surprised to find out how much and why these stars have a hard time finding a new role. So… let’s see.

Chris Hemsworth

If it seems as though Chris Hemsworth hasn’t been in the spotlight lately, you would be right. Unlike the other actors on this list, however, the reason isn’t due to any fault of the actor but due to a contract, he signed to play the superhero Thor in a multi-year contract.

Due to the Marvel cinematic franchise churning out a film or two every year, the actor has been busy portraying the Norse god on-screen since 2011. As such the Australian actor has had little time to branch out. Adding to this is the fact the actor deciding to relocate back to his native land, compounding the difficulty in finding roles with studios located in the United States.

UPDATED: The Winners At The 70th Emmy Awards

UPDATE 18/09/2018: The list of winners at the 2018 Emmy Awards has now been added to the end of this post.

Predictions abound for the 70th iteration of the Emmy’s with several of television’s most celebrated shows set for a big night at the Television Academy Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 17, 2018.

“This year’s nominations continue to represent increased diversity and inclusion in front of the camera,” said Television Academy Chairman and CEO Hayma Washington. “And, there is a wealth of new and returning programs that reflect so many of today’s critical issues.”

Among all shows up for awards, Game Of Thrones has the most nominations (22) in all categories, followed by Saturday Night Live (21) and Westworld (21). Leading the nominations in totals by platform are Netflix (112), HBO (108) and NBC (78). With over a hundred awards on offer, we’ll take our pics among the contenders for the Drama Series category’s main awards.

Outstanding Drama Series

The award for the best drama series seems like a two horse raise between downtrodden handmaidens and the dragon-riding royalty of Westeros. With Game of Thrones famously absent from last year’s awards, the Handmaid’s Tale swooped in to collect the gong. This year, the two go head-to-head. Critics are predicting a win for the Hulu drama to repeat the feat again this year.

Lead Actor In A Drama Series

It looks to be a threepeat for actor Sterling K. Brown. The This Is Us star comes in having won consecutive awards for The People v. O.J. Simpson and This Is Us. With his fictional father, Ron Cephas Jones, winning the Guest-Actor award in a stunning upset this past weekend, it means voters have been paying attention to the storyline. Realistically, Brown’s main threat is his co-star and fictional adopted father, Milo Ventimiglia, who perhaps had a more emphatic role this past season.

Lead Actress In A Drama Series

Likewise, except a repeat for Elisabeth Moss to win this year’s gong. The Handmaid’s Tale star’s compelling portrayal in the series seems impossible to beat, with the show’s success due in large part to the star’s series-carrying performance. Having been overlooked for her past work on Mad Men, Moss is a shoe-in for this year’s award once again.

Supporting Actor In A Drama Series

Last year’s winner, John Lithgow for The Crown, isn’t in the running this year, which leaves the field wide open. Both Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage can consider themselves contenders for their roles on Game of Thrones. Dinklage already having two previous wins and Coster-Waldau being tasked with the season’s most poignant moments. However, Matt Smith for his perfectly petty and occasionally sympathetic portrayal as Prince Philip in The Crown is apparently tipped to win.

Supporting Actress In A Drama Series

The Handmaid’s Tale has three nominees this award, making up it a favorite to win this award. Interestingly the show has yet to lose an acting category in which it has been nominated. The real question is not if but who among its nominees will win. Samira Wiley was awarded this year’s Guest Actress award, just as Alexis Bedel, who won last year’s Guest Actress prize, is now a season regular and up for a Supporting Actress award. Ann Dowd and Yvonne Strahovski who also star in the show are nominated. Dowd might have been the early favorite, however, as the season progressed it was Strahovski who really stole the show, having previously worked on both Chuck and Dexter.

As for the Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series awards, there’s little to separate between Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale, and This Is Us.

“It’s been another record-breaking year with more than 9,100 entries in 122 unique categories for the initial nomination round of voting,” said Washington. “The continued growth of the industry has provided opportunities for acclaimed new programs to emerge while allowing last season’s break-through programs to thrive.”

Henry Cavill Reportedly Out As Superman

Bad news Henry Cavill fans: The British actor’s tenure as the Man of Steel has reportedly come to an end.

It was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Henry Cavill would be leaving his role as Superman after talks with the Warner Bros. broke down. The actor has played the iconic DC comics character in three films of the cinematic universe, Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2017). The actor was expected to appear in a cameo role in the upcoming superhero movie Shazam!, however, scheduling conflicts prevented this from happening.

The same source told The Hollywood Reporter, “Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors.” Warner Bros. is eager to “reset” the under-performing franchise, according to the source.

The actor has since responded cryptically on his Instagram page in a video post showing him staring with a stony expression at the camera while lifting a Superman figure into view and then moving it back down out of the shot. “The Blue Danube” waltz, sung by barking dogs, plays over the short clip with Cavill sporting a “Krypton Lifting Team” T-shirt.

Today was exciting #Superman

A post shared by Henry Cavill (@henrycavill) on

A representative for Warner soon released a statement stating that no decision had been made yet. “While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged,” they said.

Cavill’s manager, Dany Garcia, also responded to the news through Twitter, writing, “Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. Warner has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe.”

The initial report claimed that the breakdown in talks was in part due to the studio’s plan to focus on Supergirl rather than Superman, with the former’s origin story featuring the last son of Krypton as an infant due to the timeline of the story. This suggests Cavill would not have made an appearance in any Supergirl film.

If the rumors do stack up and Cavill leaves the role, it would mark the second high-profile exit from the Warner Bros. franchise after Ben Affleck vacated his role as Batman. The rest of the Justice League will reprise their roles, however. Gal Gadot will return for Wonder Woman 1984, set for theaters in November 2019; Jason Momoa will headline a solo Aquaman movie this December; and Ezra Miller is set to star in a Flash movie, which is due to shoot in early 2019.

Cavill recently starred as the antagonist in Mission: Impossible – Fallout opposite Tom Cruise. He has also been cast as Geralt of Rivia in big-budget Netflix television series The Witcher (an adaptation of the cult fantasy books and video game series).

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. “has been mulling a completely different direction with its Superman canon for some time.” The studio is reportedly considering a future in which Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan could play the famous Kryptonian. Actress Kat Graham, of The Vampire Diaries fame, added her support telling TMZ it’s time for Kal-El to be played by a black, Latino or Asian actor.

Billboards In Space: NASA Explores Placing Ads On Rockets

In the near future, you may conceivably see a spacecraft to Mars featuring a Mars chocolate bar logo plastered across its wings.

NASA recently called for a new committee of the NASA Advisory Council to explore the idea of branding and endorsement opportunities. Despite current regulations and laws seemingly prohibiting such activities, NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine recently posed the question, “Is it possible for NASA to offset some of its costs by selling the naming rights to its spacecraft?” he asked during to a meeting of a council that advises NASA. “Or the naming rights to its rockets? I’m telling you, there is interest in that right now.”

As much as news of seeing astronauts in Coca-Cola commercials, or NASA’s Mars rover rebranded as Jordan’s brought to you by Nike, it will take some time before a decision can be made. “The question is: is it possible?” Bridenstine mentioned in a video broadcast on NASA TV and which question has been debated in press accounts since then. “The answer is: I don’t know, but we want somebody to give us advice on whether it is.”

Bridenstine also stated he would like to see astronauts participate in marketing and endorsement opportunities as well as transforming rockets into corporate billboards similar to ads on NASCAR racing cars. “I’d like to see kids growing up, instead of maybe wanting to be like a professional sports star, I’d like to see them grow up wanting to be a NASA astronaut or a NASA scientist,” he said. “I’d like to see, maybe one day, NASA astronauts on the cover of a cereal box, embedded into the American culture.”

The White House recently announced the establishment of a National Space Council last year, led by Vice President Mike Pence, and wants to see mankind return to the moon. However, the administration’s budget proposals so far suggest financing will remain flat through 2023, with wishes to end direct funding for the International Space Station and turn over its operations to a private entity. Bridenstine also said he wants the new committee to explore flying tourists to the International Space Station alongside government astronauts.

The committee, headed by Maxar Technologies’ Mike Gold, will pursue ways NASA could work with advertisers to brand its spacecraft and rockets as well as investigate how astronauts might engage in endorsements and media opportunities — both on and off Earth. He proposes that by allowing astronauts to do advertisements like appearing on cereal boxes, such endorsements will help “enhance the exposure of space activities in the popular culture,” according to Gold. One of Bridenstine’s goals is to offset the costs of NASA missions by selling the naming rights of its hardware to private companies.

Among the next steps are branding and advertising that future commercial space stations might tap into Bridenstine said. “This is yet another opportunity to prove out a market.” The newly appointed committee is likely to make recommendations at the next quarterly meeting of the NASA advisory council, he said.

Google’s New “Touring Bird” App Is A Traveler’s Dream

Google’s Touring Bird website is a nifty new travel tool designed to help vacationers easily find activities in top travel destinations according to their interests, budget, and time.

Planning a trip is a key component of any successful vacation. Hours spent on the web reading reviews, scrolling through photos, and comparing prices are familiar to every traveler. “Traveling to new places is fun and exciting — but for a lot of people, planning what to do once you’re there is not. It often involves hours of research, reading dozens of travel guides and blogs across the web, sifting through reviews, compiling your own lists, comparing prices and offerings, and asking friends and family for recommendations,” Google’s Touring Bird team wrote.

Thanks to their new web application, planning a trip has never been easier. “Touring Bird helps travelers explore, compare, and book tours, tickets, and activities from multiple providers in top destinations around the world—all in a single place,” Google says.

Touring Bird is accessible on both desktop and mobile, and offers the best price for each selected activity or activities, including options to bundle activities to save money. The website includes a built-in bookmarking and sharing feature which allows you to save your favorites to a list.

The website displays a mixture of things to experience for each city divided into categories. These include:

  • Top Sights: Most popular Prague-area attractions.
  • Tours & Activities: Guided tours, tickets & travel experiences.
  • Local Tips: Recommendations from locals & travel experts.
  • Free Tours: Guided tours on a pay-what-you-wish basis.
  • and the ability to explore the city by interest.

The interest category allows visitors to filter the city’s attractions, such as helping them find essential experiences, track hidden spots and locals’ picks, discover drinking and dining (and cooking) experiences, learn about the kid-friendly activities on offer, locate the arts and architecture hub, as well as pinpoint the most Instagrammable sites and selfie-worthy spots. “A leisure trip to a destination is usually between three to eight days,” Lax Poojary, who leads the Touring Bird team said. “People want to do top activities and attractions in the first few days, but then they want to do more immersive things. We wanted to build a one-stop shop.”

An added bonus of the website is that it also serves as a useful tool to assist in locating trusted ticket booking options for when tourists are ready to start checking out attractions. The cities currently covered are Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Miami, New Delhi, New York, Orlando, Paris, Prague, Rome, San Diego, San Francisco, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.
