The Celebrities Turning 50 In 2018

Turning 50 is one of life’s biggest milestones. Finally, you’re closer to 100 than you are to0. At this age, many are already parents, some are grandparents, while others have focused to put all their effort into their careers instead. For celebrities, however, age is only a number with many stars sparkling as brightly as they ever have before.

It doesn’t matter what the reason is because frankly, we like our favorite stars to grow old with us regardless of how they choose to preserve (or enhance) their renown looks.

2018 was a year many of our favorite celebrities entered the 50s. From the silver screen to the small screen, icons of the 80s, 90s, 2000s and today all reached the milestone with several surprising entries on this list. With 2019 just around the corner, let us look at the rich and famous who celebrated the big 5-0 this year.

Take for example, Naomi Watts and Will Smith.

You would never know she’s 50, would you? And you’d be more surprised to know that she’ll be taking part in the next Game Of Thrones new project – The prequel series. It’s still a secret so no one knows anything about it.

English actress Naomi Watts turned 50 on 28 September and celebrated the milestone by riding a camel in the Sahara Desert in Morocco. She captioned a photo of the experience, “A milestone and extraordinary moment. So grateful for all my friends and family who shared this experience with me. Memories forever. And thank you to everyone for all my birthday wishes. Huge gratitude… truly overwhelming week.”

The actress began her acting career in Australian films and television series, before moving to the United States where she starred in a series of lesser known films. She came to attention after being cast in the lead role in the 2001 film Mulholland Drive.

The actress has gone onto star in several successful films since, such as The Ring, 21 Grams, I Heart Huckabees, King Kong, Eastern Promises, The International, Fair Game, J. Edgar, and The Impossible.

Keep reading to see who else is half-a-century old:

The Best Celebrity Halloween Costumes of 2018 and All Time

Halloween is observed by a number of countries on October 31st each year, on the eve of “All Hallows’ Day”. Today, Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

Traditionally, it is the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all who have departed. Some say Halloween traditions actually originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain which may have had pagan roots themselves.

Celebrities Do It Better

For celebrities, Halloween is the perfect excuse to showcase their creative side. Often used to playing characters and looking larger than life, entertainers love to put a great deal of thought and effort into their costumes. Sometimes the costumes pay homage, at other times they are an inside joke, yet some choose to keep it pop-culture related and poke fun at a current topic.

Celebrities are arguably better placed than anyone else to take their costumes to the next level as they can virtually get away by wearing any outfit and have the means to obtain the resources necessary to perfect any look imaginable. Quite often fans get to see a side of their favorite celebrity they didn’t know existed, depending on how safe or dangerous they wanted to play it.

Looking For Last Minute Ideas?

With Halloween just around the corner, most people will already have an idea of what they’ll be wearing. However, if you’re like us and leave things to the last minute, perhaps these celebrity costumes will inspire you to dress up differently this year. What a person wears says a lot about them, and a well-thought-out costume speaks volumes, just ask these celebrities.

These A-list Stars Have Trouble Getting New Roles

We might love them on screen, but as it turns out, they are a hot potato behind the scenes, and you’d be surprised to find out how much and why these stars have a hard time finding a new role. So… let’s see.

Chris Hemsworth

If it seems as though Chris Hemsworth hasn’t been in the spotlight lately, you would be right. Unlike the other actors on this list, however, the reason isn’t due to any fault of the actor but due to a contract, he signed to play the superhero Thor in a multi-year contract.

Due to the Marvel cinematic franchise churning out a film or two every year, the actor has been busy portraying the Norse god on screen since 2011. As such the Australian actor has had little time to branch out. Adding to this is the fact the actor deciding to relocate back to his native land, compounding the difficulty in finding roles with studios located in the United States.

Jim Carrey

If you haven’t seen Jim Carrey in a while, it’s because the actor has more recently been shelved by studios due to his off-set behavior. After starting his career in comedic roles, the actor showcased his versatility in more serious films earning critical acclaim including multiple Golden Globe awards for Best Actor.

However, due to more controversial, if not polarizing stances on vaccinations, gun control, as well as his political position. As such, with his recent films being box-office bombs, studios fear to cast the actor as they fear it will alienate large groups of their audience.

UPDATED: The Winners At The 70th Emmy Awards

UPDATE 18/09/2018: The list of winners at the 2018 Emmy Awards has now been added to the end of this post.

Predictions abound for the 70th iteration of the Emmy’s with several of television’s most celebrated shows set for a big night at the Television Academy Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 17, 2018.

“This year’s nominations continue to represent increased diversity and inclusion in front of the camera,” said Television Academy Chairman and CEO Hayma Washington. “And, there is a wealth of new and returning programs that reflect so many of today’s critical issues.”

Among all shows up for awards, Game Of Thrones has the most nominations (22) in all categories, followed by Saturday Night Live (21) and Westworld (21). Leading the nominations in totals by platform are Netflix (112), HBO (108) and NBC (78). With over a hundred awards on offer, we’ll take our pics among the contenders for the Drama Series category’s main awards.

Outstanding Drama Series

The award for the best drama series seems like a two horse raise between downtrodden handmaidens and the dragon-riding royalty of Westeros. With Game of Thrones famously absent from last year’s awards, the Handmaid’s Tale swooped in to collect the gong. This year, the two go head-to-head. Critics are predicting a win for the Hulu drama to repeat the feat again this year.

Lead Actor In A Drama Series

It looks to be a threepeat for actor Sterling K. Brown. The This Is Us star comes in having won consecutive awards for The People v. O.J. Simpson and This Is Us. With his fictional father, Ron Cephas Jones, winning the Guest-Actor award in a stunning upset this past weekend, it means voters have been paying attention to the storyline. Realistically, Brown’s main threat is his co-star and fictional adopted father, Milo Ventimiglia, who perhaps had a more emphatic role this past season.

Lead Actress In A Drama Series

Likewise, except a repeat for Elisabeth Moss to win this year’s gong. The Handmaid’s Tale star’s compelling portrayal in the series seems impossible to beat, with the show’s success due in large part to the star’s series-carrying performance. Having been overlooked for her past work on Mad Men, Moss is a shoe-in for this year’s award once again.

Supporting Actor In A Drama Series

Last year’s winner, John Lithgow for The Crown, isn’t in the running this year, which leaves the field wide open. Both Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage can consider themselves contenders for their roles on Game of Thrones. Dinklage already having two previous wins and Coster-Waldau being tasked with the season’s most poignant moments. However, Matt Smith for his perfectly petty and occasionally sympathetic portrayal as Prince Philip in The Crown is apparently tipped to win.

Supporting Actress In A Drama Series

The Handmaid’s Tale has three nominees this award, making up it a favorite to win this award. Interestingly the show has yet to lose an acting category in which it has been nominated. The real question is not if but who among its nominees will win. Samira Wiley was awarded this year’s Guest Actress award, just as Alexis Bedel, who won last year’s Guest Actress prize, is now a season regular and up for a Supporting Actress award. Ann Dowd and Yvonne Strahovski who also star in the show are nominated. Dowd might have been the early favorite, however, as the season progressed it was Strahovski who really stole the show, having previously worked on both Chuck and Dexter.

As for the Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series awards, there’s little to separate between Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale, and This Is Us.

“It’s been another record-breaking year with more than 9,100 entries in 122 unique categories for the initial nomination round of voting,” said Washington. “The continued growth of the industry has provided opportunities for acclaimed new programs to emerge while allowing last season’s break-through programs to thrive.”

Henry Cavill Reportedly Out As Superman

Bad news Henry Cavill fans: The British actor’s tenure as the Man of Steel has reportedly come to an end.

It was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Henry Cavill would be leaving his role as Superman after talks with the Warner Bros. broke down. The actor has played the iconic DC comics character in three films of the cinematic universe, Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2017). The actor was expected to appear in a cameo role in the upcoming superhero movie Shazam!, however, scheduling conflicts prevented this from happening.

The same source told The Hollywood Reporter, “Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors.” Warner Bros. is eager to “reset” the under-performing franchise, according to the source.

The actor has since responded cryptically on his Instagram page in a video post showing him staring with a stony expression at the camera while lifting a Superman figure into view and then moving it back down out of the shot. “The Blue Danube” waltz, sung by barking dogs, plays over the short clip with Cavill sporting a “Krypton Lifting Team” T-shirt.

Today was exciting #Superman

A post shared by Henry Cavill (@henrycavill) on

A representative for Warner soon released a statement stating that no decision had been made yet. “While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged,” they said.

Cavill’s manager, Dany Garcia, also responded to the news through Twitter, writing, “Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. Warner has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe.”

The initial report claimed that the breakdown in talks was in part due to the studio’s plan to focus on Supergirl rather than Superman, with the former’s origin story featuring the last son of Krypton as an infant due to the timeline of the story. This suggests Cavill would not have made an appearance in any Supergirl film.

If the rumors do stack up and Cavill leaves the role, it would mark the second high-profile exit from the Warner Bros. franchise after Ben Affleck vacated his role as Batman. The rest of the Justice League will reprise their roles, however. Gal Gadot will return for Wonder Woman 1984, set for theaters in November 2019; Jason Momoa will headline a solo Aquaman movie this December; and Ezra Miller is set to star in a Flash movie, which is due to shoot in early 2019.

Cavill recently starred as the antagonist in Mission: Impossible – Fallout opposite Tom Cruise. He has also been cast as Geralt of Rivia in big-budget Netflix television series The Witcher (an adaptation of the cult fantasy books and video game series).

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. “has been mulling a completely different direction with its Superman canon for some time.” The studio is reportedly considering a future in which Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan could play the famous Kryptonian. Actress Kat Graham, of The Vampire Diaries fame, added her support telling TMZ it’s time for Kal-El to be played by a black, Latino or Asian actor.

Billboards In Space: NASA Explores Placing Ads On Rockets

In the near future, you may conceivably see a spacecraft to Mars featuring a Mars chocolate bar logo plastered across its wings.

NASA recently called for a new committee of the NASA Advisory Council to explore the idea of branding and endorsement opportunities. Despite current regulations and laws seemingly prohibiting such activities, NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine recently posed the question, “Is it possible for NASA to offset some of its costs by selling the naming rights to its spacecraft?” he asked during to a meeting of a council that advises NASA. “Or the naming rights to its rockets? I’m telling you, there is interest in that right now.”

As much as news of seeing astronauts in Coca-Cola commercials, or NASA’s Mars rover rebranded as Jordan’s brought to you by Nike, it will take some time before a decision can be made. “The question is: is it possible?” Bridenstine mentioned in a video broadcast on NASA TV and which question has been debated in press accounts since then. “The answer is: I don’t know, but we want somebody to give us advice on whether it is.”

Bridenstine also stated he would like to see astronauts participate in marketing and endorsement opportunities as well as transforming rockets into corporate billboards similar to ads on NASCAR racing cars. “I’d like to see kids growing up, instead of maybe wanting to be like a professional sports star, I’d like to see them grow up wanting to be a NASA astronaut or a NASA scientist,” he said. “I’d like to see, maybe one day, NASA astronauts on the cover of a cereal box, embedded into the American culture.”

The White House recently announced the establishment of a National Space Council last year, led by Vice President Mike Pence, and wants to see mankind return to the moon. However, the administration’s budget proposals so far suggest financing will remain flat through 2023, with wishes to end direct funding for the International Space Station and turn over its operations to a private entity. Bridenstine also said he wants the new committee to explore flying tourists to the International Space Station alongside government astronauts.

The committee, headed by Maxar Technologies’ Mike Gold, will pursue ways NASA could work with advertisers to brand its spacecraft and rockets as well as investigate how astronauts might engage in endorsements and media opportunities — both on and off Earth. He proposes that by allowing astronauts to do advertisements like appearing on cereal boxes, such endorsements will help “enhance the exposure of space activities in the popular culture,” according to Gold. One of Bridenstine’s goals is to offset the costs of NASA missions by selling the naming rights of its hardware to private companies.

Among the next steps are branding and advertising that future commercial space stations might tap into Bridenstine said. “This is yet another opportunity to prove out a market.” The newly appointed committee is likely to make recommendations at the next quarterly meeting of the NASA advisory council, he said.

Google’s New “Touring Bird” App Is A Traveler’s Dream

Google’s Touring Bird website is a nifty new travel tool designed to help vacationers easily find activities in top travel destinations according to their interests, budget, and time.

Planning a trip is a key component of any successful vacation. Hours spent on the web reading reviews, scrolling through photos, and comparing prices are familiar to every traveler. “Traveling to new places is fun and exciting — but for a lot of people, planning what to do once you’re there is not. It often involves hours of research, reading dozens of travel guides and blogs across the web, sifting through reviews, compiling your own lists, comparing prices and offerings, and asking friends and family for recommendations,” Google’s Touring Bird team wrote.

Thanks to their new web application, planning a trip has never been easier. “Touring Bird helps travelers explore, compare, and book tours, tickets, and activities from multiple providers in top destinations around the world—all in a single place,” Google says.

Touring Bird is accessible on both desktop and mobile, and offers the best price for each selected activity or activities, including options to bundle activities to save money. The website includes a built-in bookmarking and sharing feature which allows you to save your favorites to a list.

The website displays a mixture of things to experience for each city divided into categories. These include:

  • Top Sights: Most popular Prague-area attractions.
  • Tours & Activities: Guided tours, tickets & travel experiences.
  • Local Tips: Recommendations from locals & travel experts.
  • Free Tours: Guided tours on a pay-what-you-wish basis.
  • and the ability to explore the city by interest.

The interest category allows visitors to filter the city’s attractions, such as helping them find essential experiences, track hidden spots and locals’ picks, discover drinking and dining (and cooking) experiences, learn about the kid-friendly activities on offer, locate the arts and architecture hub, as well as pinpoint the most Instagrammable sites and selfie-worthy spots. “A leisure trip to a destination is usually between three to eight days,” Lax Poojary, who leads the Touring Bird team said. “People want to do top activities and attractions in the first few days, but then they want to do more immersive things. We wanted to build a one-stop shop.”

An added bonus of the website is that it also serves as a useful tool to assist in locating trusted ticket booking options for when tourists are ready to start checking out attractions. Each entry on the website has a price included, with the ability to filter by price according to your budget, as well as the refund options available. The website also gives easy access to every tour and attraction’s cancellation policy terms, which is a huge welcome to travelers who typically find this difficult to locate as this is often buried in the fine print, and sometimes requires a phone call to understand.

The website currently lists attractions, activities, and tips for 20 of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, with plans to increase the number in the future. “We’re working hard to bring Touring Bird to more cities—please stay tuned!” says the website. The cities currently covered are Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Miami, New Delhi, New York, Orlando, Paris, Prague, Rome, San Diego, San Francisco, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.

Users Post Puzzling Pictures, The Internet Answers.

In the past if you saw something strange, it was likely up to you, someone you knew, a person in the vicinity who could tell you what saw was. Even then, you would be limited to the information available in your local area, such as the city library. Today, we’re lucky to have the internet, and with it, it’s unlimited access to knowledge from places and people far and wide.

In fact, the popular website “Reddit” has a subreddit thread titled “What Is This Thing?” which lets users post photos of things they have no idea about and other people chime in with their ideas. Yes, a place on the internet where you can ask an innocent question and not get trolled. Hard to believe but it does exist.

Check out the list of the craziest explanations for the internet’s most puzzling photo questions:

Green Alien Thing

Question: Green alien thing that grew on my band-aid. What is this thing? The answer is either a very long scientific explanation involving shelf-life, climate, exposure to moisture among other things. The other, simpler and better theory is they are sprinkles.

The Literal Spawn Of Satan

Question: What is this demonic looking creature? If we had to guess, we’d say this came directly from the gates of hell to spook the bejesus out of every soul which doubted the afterlife. But apparently, it’s just a moth with fancy glands the females of its species have the hots for.

Mini Coats Of Arms

Question: I’ve met an old man in Germany and he sent me these little coats of arms, telling me to visit each of these locations before Idie. What are these exactly used for? This makes sense. Many veterans from that era would likely suffer from some injury or another and would sadly require a walking stick to get around, so stick medallions make sense.

Unfortunately, It Doesn’t Make You Coffee.

Question: An old Samsung PC keyboard. What is the coffee cup key for? The answer we were hoping for was that the keyboard would unlock some secret coffee making function in computers. But it turns out it’s a screen saver button.

Nobody Move!

Question: What is this? I found it next to my toaster. Please don’t tell me it’s some kind of cockroach molt. This person perhaps regretted asking this question. Now they can’t sleep in their own home as they are always wondering where the alleged snake could be. Thanks, a lot.

A Real Life Pokémon Evolution?

Question: What in the absolute f*** is on my car? Never in a million years would we have ever thought this one up by ourselves. It looks like something out of the Pokémon world. We’re looking forward to seeing the butterfly-wasp hybrid!

Who Even Keeps Carnivorous Plants?

Question: This… Thing… Showed up inside the humid jar of my carnivorous plants. What is this thing? Again we have to ask, what? A slime mold which eats oats someone makes a person jealous not have one of their own. What is even the point of this anyway?

The Little Circles On Bus Windows

Question: What are these circles on a window of a bus and what do they do? Impress your fellow passengers with this bit of trivia next time you catch a bus. We have to admit, we never would have imagined the reason for these circles would be so profound.

The Future is NOW!

Question: Saw this guy crossing the street in dc. What is it? This looks like something out of the Jetsons cartoon. Even delivery guys are losing their jobs to the robots now. On the other hand, at least you don’t need to tip.

The Hunter Becomes The Hunted

Question: Relative found these eggs in her yard in Georgia, hanging from a tree. What is this thing? Wow. That’s all we can say. David Attenborough needs to do a nature show in Georgia, right now.

Let Them Bee

Question: A coworker found a hive on her balcony. She is convinced that is a beehive. I am not but I don’t know what insect it is? Show me the honey! I will gift them to a beekeeper on the condition they give me some of their production now and then. Any takers?

Wiccan Magic

Question: I came home yesterday afternoon to find this tucked in my car door. Does anyone have a similar experience? The real question is who would put this on a strangers car? Is this some kind of next level Wiccan flirting? You could say, we’re burning to know.

The Archaeology Lesson

Question: I was off-roading with my kids today and found this in the path blocked by a giant rock. Any ideas? And just like that, a veteran archaeologist saves the day. We sure wish we had time-traveling trails like this in our neck of the woods.

The Knife Collector

Question: This was given to me maybe 25 years ago because I collect knives. No one knows where it’s from or the purpose of the stick (there’s space for 2 sticks, but only one was in it when given to me). US quarter for scale. Who would’ve thought people would take their cutlery everywhere they went!

Fool’s Gold

Question: Odd square metal embedded in a rock. What is this thing? We can understand why this would look unnaturally made due to its perfectly square dimensions. We were hoping it was something more unusual like an alien surveillance device. Pity.

Lifeguard Lifesaver

Question: Found this on a beach in New Zealand – there were thousands of them at the high water mark. What is it? It’s a good thing this hero was there to save the day because we would have wanted to touch this sea beauty ourselves. It’s not only Middle Earth that has magic, but the middle of the sea also seems to provide mystical creatures.

Snail Mail?

Question: I need your help! What is this? Forget snail mail, this is the package through a snail female and not in the “yay, I can’t wait to open it” kind. How surreal it must be to know you hold the lives of hundreds of creatures in the palm of your hand.

Perfume Pendant

Question: Super small mini flask? The ‘needle’ screws into the flask. What is this thing? We want one of these! We imagine this what ancient assassins used to covertly poison their enemies. We’re not saying we would use it for the same purpose, of course. Honest.

Better Get Rid Of It, Pronto.

Question: Oxycodone bottle found in the woods with electronics inside. What is this thing? We assume this person is not one who normally takes precautions. This could have been part of a bomb, a chemical weapon, etc., and they decide to bring it home. Luckily, or unluckily, it’s a bait bottle to catch thieves. Better throw it away, NOW!

No, They Are Not Jalapeños. ?

Question: Took this weird bean home, now it’s opening up and has me more puzzled. What is this thing? It’s a good thing to ask before you put anything into your mouth. Easy, now. On first glance, you may think these are jalapeño peppers with cherry tomatoes. But you’d be oh-so-wrong.

Keep reading to see how the internet answered the next person’s strange creature photo…

Salamander, I Choose You!

Question: Found this guy freezing to death in southern Michigan this morning. What is this thing? Someone just scored themselves a pet. Salamander, I choose you. Just don’t use it do battle now, champ. #GottaCatchEmAll

Maybe, We Are Not Alone?

Question: Seen in the sky over Wisconsin last night. What is this thing? We’re glad someone could clarify this because we were starting to panic for a moment. This greenhouse is certainly “lit“.

Calling Doctor Who

Question: Found at a dead relatives house. What is this thing? We believe the reason this item fetches so much is that it is, in reality, part of Doctor Who‘s armory of gadgets. Who else would use this?

The Faith Of The Seven?

Question: White circles with purple dots on top of a headdress. What is this thing? Our guess was pretty close. We were thinking they were fans of the “faith of the seven” from Game of Thrones. But it appears they were fans of another throne altogether, the throne of heaven. The “five holy wounds”, of course, represent the five wounds of Jesus Christ, known as the stigmata.

Drop. It. Now.

Question: My friend found this weird rock on the east coast of England. What is it? Yuck. We make no apologies for reacting this way. Worms in any form, dead, alive, or fossilized can stay underground. Just looking at this makes us squirm. Ugh!

We Prefer If You Don’t Use The Bathroom ?

Question: What is the purpose of a door like this? Who builds something for the public if they don’t want the public to use it? That’s like building a swimming pool just to see the reflection of the sky. Trust politicians to come up with gold pieces of legislation which lead to results like this.

Extra Flavor?

Question: Found on an apple in East Germany. What is this thing? No. No. No. Thanks, but no thanks. We like our apples a little more organic, thank you. Thanks for the extra seasoning but we’re not actually all that hungry anyway. Okay, thanks, bye.

Scull? Oh, You Meant Skull. Sorry, What?!

Question: Found on the beach (ocean) in MA, USA. (iPhone 5 for reference). Skull? Sternum? That’s one big fish. It would actually be a great mask for a dress up party. And best of all, it’s free. Just be sure to clean out the, umm carcass, first.

You Must Be Fun At Parties

Question: Interesting cloud formation, what’s going on here? Thanks. Just when we were getting excited to hear some cool supernatural explanation for why the clouds look like they’re being sucked out, this person pops our balloon. Thanks, science guy/girl.

Optimus Prime Mover?

Question: Seen in the sky while hiking in Manchester today. What is this thing? When they say transformer, do they mean, the electricity kind or the Autobots/Decepticons kind? Because both would make sense to us.

Momma With The Apt Title

Question: My mom found this on the floor of her beauty salon, she calls it a “cockapiller“. What is this thing? Our first instinct was to presume it was a vegetable like a squash. As much as we appreciate this person’s explanation, we prefer the poster’s mother’s name for it instead.

But We Care More About The Dog

Question: This little girl was photographed in the 1860’s with her dog. What is she holding in her lap? Yeah, cool accordion and all. But where can we get a cute little pooch like that? I mean, look at how it’s sitting up on its little feet. Aww.

It’s Not A Citrus Fruit

Question: These were all over the beach in S. Maine. Think they were alive. What is this thing? There’s an entire world to explore under the sea. And this tunicate is only a glimpse at what the ocean has to offer.

Throw It Back! Throw It Back!

Question: What did I catch? You can catch all kinds of strange things out in the great blue sea. As strange as this creature seems, it’s not the strangest thing to come out of the depths of the ocean as we’ll see.

Look But Don’t Touch

Question: Mold? Spores? Something on a tree in the woods. Too scared to touch it. This one requires quite the explanation to answer according to one poster:

“Looks like some wooly aphids. Woolly aphids are sucking insects that live on plant fluids and produce a filamentous waxy white covering which resembles cotton or wool. The adults are winged and move to new locations where they lay egg masses. The nymphs often form large cottony masses on twigs, for protection from predators.”

It’s best to just let nature be sometimes, folks.

“Nothing” Is What Rocks Dream About

Question: I found this after a rock was broken. What is it? So we have the inside of a horsetail plant’s stem. Aristotle once said, “Nothing is what rocks dream about.” We wish we could see the look on his face when we show him this. Checkmate. ?

It’s Not An Antenna

Question: Seen in Ohio. Obviously, a car. But does the top have a purpose? Our minds wondered if it were some kind of supercharged antenna, but it turns out it’s used as the start line for horse harness racing.

License To Thrill

Question: It’s made out of silver and the ball rotates. What is this thing? We would love to see this in a James Bond movie. “How do you like your cigars, Mr. Bond?” The same way I like my women, “buttery”.

Don’t Put It In There, Please.

Question: Any idea what these metal lightweight hollow things could be? The largest one is about five. Thank our lucky stars we don’t live in an age where these tools are what is used.

Why I Don’t Like Gardening

Question: Found in an earth pot at work, was growing in the dark since it had a lid on it. What is this thing? There’s a reason some of us don’t like gardening. Every time we have to pluck out something, dig a hole, or clear out feeds, we come across something half-bizarre, half-scary like this.

I Didn’t Need To Know That

Question: Is this the beginning of a Stephen King novel? This mystery blob just appeared in my remote Maine cabin. There are also signs someone has been in here since I’ve been away. What is this? After realizing the cause of this mess, this person probably did wish it was an intruder instead. Eww. Ugh. Yuck.

Internet Detective

Question: Neighbor was involved in a hit and run and is trying to identify the red vehicle that hit him. Any idea what vehicle this could be from? And just like that the list of suspects just narrowed.

Try Fitting That In Your Pocket

Question: What is this thing? Seen in a charity shop! According to the internet, here’s the answer: “Looks like it would dispense cigarettes” – frumble86. We’ll stick with our lighters, thank you.

Not A Back Scratcher

Question: What is this tool? This looks like a tool from the stone age, but it turns out it’s much more recent. We can’t say we’ve ever seen this in action, but it’s likely these haven’t been used in a long time. Maybe it doubles as a back scratcher?

That Needle Has Been Places

Question: This needle thing was just found in a hamburger at a Lexington, Kentucky Mcdonald’s – what is it? What we want to know is why do people pick things like these up and bring them home in the first place? Are we just germaphobes, or is this not normal at all?

Burn It With Fire!

Maybe You Should’ve Left It On The Tree

Question: Found hanging from a tree. Pen for scale. Feels like cotton. What is this thing? The things people bring into their house. What if this plant still had wasp eggs inside it and hatched overnight? People should really think twice before they bring things into their home. Risky business.

Look At That Glass

Question: What is this professor wearing? I believe he is in computer engineering. It’s probably not too much of a stretch to say this was popular with his students. The added benefit, if he got caught staring at someone, is that he could just pretend he was looking at this fine piece of glass. ?

Bottoms Up, Literally.

Question: I know this is uranium glass but what is it used for? The top comes off. This would make for a great 21st Birthday Gift. It’s also good for your shy friend at the bar who sips on their drink. You can’t put it down until you’re down, friend. You should never do shots half-assed.

Training Wheels For Cars

Question: My mom saw these on a car in southwest Florida, not sure what they are? They are the equivalent of training wheels for cars. Still Don’t Know How To Use It

Question: What is this tool – some sort of gauge? Made by Starrett. The fact that most of us don’t know what this is only tells us that the modern man and modern woman are less hands-on than generations past. But hey, at least we have the internet to lend us a helping hand, right?

Now I Want One

Question: Found in a London Airbnb. What is this thing? Some devices from the past should really be marketed better today. Like this ham holder. You could use it for other pieces of meat too. It will make for a much smoother cut of meat. Even Thanksgiving dinner would be a little less messy.

But How Did It Get There?

Question: Found in my backyard pond. Floating by that sack filled with fluid. What is this thing? The real question is how did it get there? Did one of the fish suddenly learn to walk and breathe? We need more details, comrade.

In the past if you saw something strange, it was likely up to you, someone you knew, a person in the vicinity who could tell you what saw was. Even then, you would be limited to the information available in your local area, such as the city library. Today...

Before the days when we had the internet, if you saw something strange or needed to find out about something it was a lot harder to get hold of the information.  Mostly you had to rely on someone being able to help you or perhaps try and find some details in your local City Library.  Of course all of the information available back then was limited, compared to the limitless access we now have online.

Now there is even a specific online page that you can go on to and ask all these sorts of questions and no one is going to troll you over it.  This page is on  “Reddit” which is a really popular website.  Simply go onto the sub-thread called  “What Is This Thing?”.  Here you will find all sorts of photos of things people want to find out about.  It’s so useful!

We’ve put together this list of some of the most insane photo questions asked on the internet:

Green Alien Thing

Question:  What is this?  It looks like a green alien has grown on my band aid.  The answer that was given involved lots of long words, details about shelf life, and lots of other things. Probably the simplest and best theory was that they are some kind of sprinkles.

Check out the list of the craziest explanations for the internet’s most puzzling photo questions.

Any takers?

People Who Realized Their Partners Were Clueless

No two relationships are alike, and judging by some of these people, it appears even within a relationship it seems no two minds think alike. In an age where we have cellphones perhaps many of these situations could have been avoided if a photo was sent to the partner, but in other cases, not even that would have saved them.

They say a sense of humor is a key component of a successful relationship and fortunately for many of these couples, they were able to see the funny side to these head-scratching situations. From failing to follow simple shopping instructions to mistaking everyday things for the most bizarre items. The beauty of a relationship is truly measured by how we deal with our differences.

The First Cut Is The Deepest

There’s a right and wrong way to open any package. When it comes to unboxing cables, the most important thing would be to not cut the cables. Or so you would think. When this man’s wife wanted to open her new cables she inadvertently cut the cable itself. We’re not sure this can be salvaged but at least there’s enough rope to, well you know…

Then Where Are You?

This sounds more like a brain fade moment than a genuine question. Because we really find it hard to believe anyone could mistake a star in the night sky for planet Earth. If we can see Earth in the sky, then where are we? We want to know!
