Yummy: Most Expensive Meals In The World

When we live in a world of haves and have-nots, stories like this can always feel a bit grim. You know, stories about luxurious foods that cost more than the average person earns in a month. It’s a dreadful state of affairs and only helps to perpetuate the idea that those with all the money don’t have a clue how to spend it properly. Anyway, I digress. You are here because you want to read about quality food items.

Well, the world knows how to price its luxury foods. Want some examples? Here are a few grotesquely priced delights.

Vanilla Flower

I know what you are thinking – but you have lots of vanilla ice cream in the freezer. At around $4,000 per pound, vanilla costs a huge amount. It only blooms for a few hours in a year, and does not leave much by way of pollination.

Vanilla itself is a very expensive product – the idea that you can get it so easily is quite a surprise given the cost of it per pound in its purest form.

Almas Caviar

A classic of the ‘it cost how much!?’ food world, Almas caviar is horrendously expensive. You would be paying as much as $25,000 for this kind of caviar. It’s needle in a haystack stuff to find it, even in its native Iran. The fact it comes in a 24-karat gold tin lets you know just how ridiculous the world has gone when it comes to how we spend.

White Truffles

At not far off seven grand for a kilogram of white truffles, these outrageous foods are one of the most expensive in the world. They are used in the highest quality of fishes, and only tiny amounts will be used such is their rarity, cost and, most importantly, quality.

It’s one of those foods that, you may be surprised to know, I have never tried. Apparently, though, it’s dynamite with scrambled eggs. It looks rancid, but apparently tastes like royalty.

Bluefin Tuna

Another very popular dish but madly priced is that of the Bluefin tuna. At close to $4,000 for a single pound of it, Bluefin is a very expensive product. It gets used in a lot of top meals and tends to be a very expensive add-on if you were to want it used in your food.

However, given the Bluefin tuna is a species getting close to extinction as it stands, it’s not just an expensive dish to eat – it’s an ethical hazard, too.

Densuke Watermelon

One of the most expensive items that we could find, though, is the Japanese Densuke watermelon. This item sold for over $6,000 at an auction in Japan, and became a huge talking point. This black watermelon isn’t rotten or anything like that – it’s a unique kind of Japanese fruit.

It might seem a bit nuts, but the Densuke watermelon is among the most expensive dishes that you could ever eat.

Foie Gras

Out of all the items we looked into, though, we found that Foie Gras – duck/goose liver – was among the most expensive. It’s extremely nice apparently, but it’s going to cost you a hell of a lot to eat if you want to try it out. Prices depend on where you go, but a 2lb Foie Gras would cost you around $150.

That might not sound like much considering the above prices, but keep in mind it’s a meal, not an ingredient like some of the above.

In a world where so many starve, it’s pretty wild that we have food that can cost as much as this, right?

Netflix Genres Boring You? Open Them Up Today

Netflix is, easily, one of the most popular online platforms used today. Millions of users curl up in front of their TV to watch their on-demand shows, when they want. While some of us complain that Netflix has too much choice, some people find it hard to choose. For example, their genre selections are, at best, poor. You can find it hard to really dig into what you wish to watch, which soon becomes an exercise in frustration.

To solve that problem, we recommend that you take a look at this easy to use Netflix genre cracker. This opens up thousands of new genres to look through when searching for movies. If you are sick of the same old genres giving you eyebrow raising returns, you can use this simple solution to open up the floor to some far more interesting movie choices.

Making the most of Netflix

To start off with, thanks to What’s On Netflix for coming across this awesome little trick. You will need to use a variety of specific codes to open up Netflix much more, giving you much more control over what you watch.

For example, if you wanted to find something very particular, you can. Mad genres appear, like “Bellydancing” and even “Campy Chinese Movies” – they have a little hidden sub-category for any kind of movie that you can think of. To make this work, all you need to do is type in the following URL:

https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/XXXX

All you need to do is swap out XXXX for the genre you wish to browse through, and voila. You can find all of the codes that you need online, making it easy to tap into over 70,000 hidden sub-genres. It’s very interesting, and makes it easy for you to make your Netflix experience a touch more specific.

Many of us spend hours just flicking through Netflix hoping to find something decent. With this, you make more or less certain that you can find something worth watching. However, opening up the floor so much will mean potentially making it even harder to choose. If you struggle to make a choice with the options already on Netflix, make sure you have a rough idea of the genre that you wish to watch.

Decision making falls through the floor when we have too many options, so try and limit in your mind the kind of movie youwish to watch. Then, start your browser search. If you go on with so many new options to pick from, you will likely just make what is already a hard choice even harder than it needs to be!

The Loudest Rock Concerts Ever Recorded

When you leave a music concert or a gig, you can often like you have just your ears filled with paper. The ringing noise in your ears sticks around for a long time, as does the necessity to go “WHAT?” to just about anyone you speak to. Even going to see someone quite harmonic and relaxing can leave your ears in a bit of a tiff. So, going to see a major rock band at a big venue is only going to exasperate those scenarios.

However, regardless of how bad your ears have been, you will find that it pales in comparison to what would have happened if you were present at any of the following rock concerts. These are recorded as among the loudest in history.

Sleazy Joe, 2008

Their show that was held over at Hassleholm, and it managed to produce a ridiculous 143.2 decibels of noise. That’s a hell of a lot of noise, and shows you just how far the group were going on this performance.

Touted as the ‘loudest band in the world’, it’s fair to say that Sleazy Joe done a pretty damn good job of making that come true in their ’08 show in Sweden.

AC/DC, 1980

Known for being able to hit the heights on a good night, AC/DC managed an impressive 130 decibels during their Back in Black tour back in the 1980s. Years of hitting the high notes will have had an impact on the band with singer Brian Johnson having to reschedule shows in 2016 or risk the loss of his hearing entirely!

Indeed, back in the day they were told that they were ‘too loud’ by promoters and were asked to turn down the volume a touch: pfft!

The Who, 1976

While we might not really associate The Who with being a ‘loud’ band, they managed to make an impressive 126 decibels of noise during one of their London shows in 1976. They were playing at the Valley Stadium, and managed to make plenty of noise.

It was at one stage the highest performing concert in history, so much so that the Guinness Book of World Records awarded them for their noisiness until it was later broken.

Leftfield, 1996

Among the loudest that we could find, though, comes courtesy of the incredible Leftfield. They done a show over at the Brixton Academy, and managed to hit a stupendous 137 decibels. That’s damn impressive, and has become part of their show experience: loud to the point where they are warned by their promotional teams.

Legal limits mean that breaking these kind of sound levels is very unlikely. However, while it would be nice to go even a bit higher again, the 140-odd decibel level sounds more than loud enough for most gigs!

Whatever kind of rock music you like, you’ll find that some of these concerts are the kind of gig that you would like to spend your night, even if your ears would feel like they have gone through a workout!

Is Avengers: Infinity War All CGI? Take A Look

In the modern world of cinema, we’re able to produce things that simply would have seemed impossible. For example, you take a look at old-school movies like Clash of the Titans, and it’s barely believable that a director thought it looked anything other than amateur. Compare it with the more modern remake, and it’s safe to say that special effects can make up for a lack of just about anything on-set.

Well, one thing we can say for sure with the Avengers movie series has been that special effects play a critical role in making it look passable. Some recent shots came out from the Avengers movie sets recently, showing you the reality of how parts are shot. For example, the amazing scenes set on Wakanda don’t take place on anything other than a green screen.

While everyone knows that, it’s interesting to see the actual before/after shots that details just how much these kind of movies rely upon CGI to succeed. Many scenes in Infinity War – and others – are mostly built with the Green Screen. According to expert Oliver Schulz, who worked on the movie: “I was still wrapping on their other production Black Panther when I began on this show. Having worked on several Marvel shows prior, it gave a sense coming onto this one that I was seeing old friends again,”

For example, on the trip to Nidavellir, Thor, Rocket Raccoon and Groot all find themselves on a space station that is put together by Method Studios. According to Greg Steele, the VFX Supervisor: “The challenges revolved around building an environment that could be easily animated or posed per shot, having enough detail that we could be a foot from the ring surface and also pull out and across long distances and still retain the sense of scale and detail necessary, and in the end be efficient enough to render in many shots,”

Dust in the wind

Arguably the hardest part for shooting probably came from when the heroes all begin to turn to dust. While they are all quite hard to watch and see, the quality of the work that is put in Weta Digital to make it come to life, according to VFX Supervisor Matt Aiken, was quite exceptional, saying: “We had to make sure that it worked really, really well, because it was so drawn out, and so it had to withhold very high levels of scrutiny because we were holding right on Spidey’s face over Tony’s shoulder, through that.”

It just goes to show the immense amount of attention to detail and effort that is needed to pull off these kinds of shots. It takes precision and effort, but it also goes to show that for all the quality of the acting, writing and directing on films like this, it comes down to how good the art team are.

If you can make some of the scenes in this movie look as good as they do, then it’s safe to say that the art team make the move what it truly us. From making the big bad in Thanos look good to ensuring that Wakanda shows off its resplendent best, the work needed to make it all come together is a feat of tremendous detail in itself.

Discovery: Scientists Find New Pyramid Evidence

From the source of infinite power through to being a dimensional portal, few structures on this planet are as mythical as the Great Pyramid of Giza. Built thousands of years ago – it varies massively depending on who you listen to – it’s among the most amazing structures ever seen. However, despite extensive investigation and research into the pyramid itself, there is still so much that we do know not about them and are still learning as time goes on.

Indeed, the 481ft pyramid built for the famous Pharaoh, Khufu, is typically believed to house many unique secrets of ancient Egyptian life. Today, the aim is more on trying to find out the physical properties that can be proven instead of looking into mythical and spiritually-based content.

The latest discovery, then, is definitely more physical in nature. The pyramid has been found to have the ability to concentrate magnetic and electric energy into its various chambers and also below the base. This would create unique and powerful pockets of energy within the walls.

According to Dr. Andrey Evylukhin, the co-ordinator of the latest project: Egyptian pyramids have always attracted great attention. We as scientists were interested in them as well, so we decided to look at the Great Pyramid as a particle dissipating radio waves resonantly.”

By looking into the electromagnetic content of the pyramid, the hope is that they will be able to find more of the hidden chambers – including where the remains of Khufu himself may be. According to the research team: “The electromagnetic energy accumulates in the chambers […] It is shown that basically the Pyramid scatters the electromagnetic waves and focuses them in to the substrate [underground] region.”

The belief, then, is that this could be used to help create nanoparticle designs. After using thermal scanning to look at the Great Pyramid in 2017, a major anomaly was found: three massive stones at the base of the pyramid, with much higher temperature readings than those around them.

This led to the belief that yet more hidden chambers may exist that were yet to be discovered. Indeed, the massive void that exists within the central point of the pyramid above the rand Gallery was found last year alone: there is still so much to find out and discover about these amazing pieces of architecture.

Who knows what will come next for these incredible pieces of architecture? One day we might even find out how they were truly built!

Health Tech: Safer And Cheaper Colonoscopies from Surprising Company

Science and technology surprise us with new inventions every day. IBEX Technologies have introduced a thin inflatable sleeve that can go into a dark tunnel. It has a camera attached at the front which can record and transmit live video and capture high resolution images.

These RoboSleeve can also be used in areas such which include, earthquake-affected areas, hurricanes, collapsed mines. Also, sewage, water and gas pipelines can be inspected by this RoboSleeve.

The founders of IBEX, Oleg Popov, and Raphael Moisa came up with the idea of a spinoff which will go inside a 2-meter long tunnel in the human body called Colon. Doctors recommend colonoscopies to detect cancer in older people. If this type of cancer is detected early, there is 92% chance of survival of the patient. These colonoscopies are expensive, costing about $60,000. The poor might not be able to afford such expensive colonoscopy. Furthermore, the procedure is dangerous, It might negatively affect the Colon.

Tested on animals and simulators

IBEX designed disposable endoscope which can enter the colon like a “soft elongated party balloon, the type you make animals out of,” says Ido Agmon, Consis Medical’s business development manager. “Inverted sleeve expands and carries itself all the way through the colon, gently and quickly.” The device has been tested on animals and proved safer and cheaper as compared to the traditional endoscope. As Agmon tells, “an elongated semi-rigid tube that the doctor has to navigate through the colon. It’s very painful, it takes time and it’s not pleasant at all, not for the patient and not for the doctor either… it only expands from its front end and doesn’t have to be pushed,”

He adds, “It’s the size of a capsule, less than 10 centimeters long,” Agmon points out. “That’s a big difference than cleaning a 2-meter-long endoscope with many small cavities and channels.”

Cheaper than the competition?

Consis Medical Sleeve and Imaging PillCm 2, both work differently. However, they have 1 thing in common, both are less invasive than traditional colonoscopies. Furthermore, other Israeli companies such as GI view and a German company Invendo made disposable endoscope and were approved by FDA, a year ago and January 2018, respectively.

Agmon argues that the Consis Medical sleeves costs only $100 per unit which is the cheapest in the market. He says, “Our plan is to get into the first human clinical trials in the next 12 months,” FDA is probably going to take 3 to 4 years to fully approve this new device.

An interesting thing about the company is that it is looking to collaborate rather than complete with the companies currently working on colonoscopy, such as Olympus. Agmon says, “This market needs to go single use, that’s why Ambu bought Invendu.”

Agmun also identifies problems that come with this new device. He says, “there are two problems: First, virtual usually means using a CT machine with x-rays to examine the colon, not necessarily a cheaper or safer alternative.

Second, while virtual exams and capsule technologies can spot suspicious polyps, they cannot remove them. A classic colonoscopy is needed in order to do a biopsy” He adds, “So most doctors prefer the real colonoscopy from the start,”

Consis Medical currently has 3 people on board and they have a goal to raise $2 Million to build a larger team.

WOW: Man-Made Perfect Handwriting

While life is all about typing and using the computer today, it’s not uncommon to find someone who still likes to communicate via the written word. I’ll admit and say that I’m lucky to have been born in the 90s, as my writing looks more like drunken scribbles than legible text. Were it not for the use of computers, I’d very much struggle to even be understood nevermind anything else!

Sometimes, though, we just come across examples of truly exemplary writing. While a nice font can always look great, proper handwritten content is some of the most enjoyable ways to see class in abundance. If you want an example of some of the most awesome handwriting examples out there, here’s just a few to think about:

The Perfect Filipino Professor.

In school, my teachers all had nice writing; this guy puts them to shame, though. The poise, the accuracy and the rich delivery of the writing is simply outstanding. Definitely one of the best examples of high-quality academic writing!

Nepalese Super Student

I’ll admit that even at my very best, I couldn’t even put together one line of this kind of accuracy. Look at how attentive to detail it is – for someone in the 8th grade, it’s almost impossible to believe.

Magical Music Sheets

This amazing handwritten music sheet is literally of a higher quality and accuracy than any music textbook I’ve ever encountered. The level of detail and precision is actually quite nauseating!

Artistic Anatomy

This amazing collection of artistic designs and doodles is like something you would get in the controller settings of a video game; all perfectly mapped out, understood and labelled. Outstanding.

6 Tips for Making the Most When Stuck in Traffic

Ever find yourself stuck in traffic, tapping your fingers away on the heat of the steering wheel to pass the time?

Do you find your brow furrowing more with every passing second? One eye on the clock and another on the traffic lights?

How often do you find yourself contorting with barely-contained fury when your phone buzzes? You already said you were in traffic; why do they need to ask again!?

Welcome to the world of big city traffic jams. Not only do they make it hard for even the most punctual person to run their life on time, they make it a challenge to enjoy any kind of experience in the car. Not only are you enjoying a wonderful waste of gas, you need to delay every plan that was set in motion due to the delays.

Thankfully, you don’t need to just sit there and think about how great it could be if you could fly. In a bid to help you make those traffic jams a touch less rage-inducing, we’ve got a few ideas. The next time you find yourself wanting to walk to work in future, try these.

Sing.

The first piece of advice that we have for you is to have a nice, plain old sing. The worst thing that you can do is put on the radio. You’ll remind that music, like most forms of art, has gone down the tubes. The same diatribe comes on with alarming regularity, and it will only make the strain of sitting in traffic that much worse. If you never bought a phone with enough charge to play the music that you do like, sing your own music. Just watch those high notes; sitting in traffic without windows might suck.

Talk Yourself Around.

So you now have X amount of minutes to have a nice little thinktank with yourself. Now, I know that can sound terrible. Most of us spend traffic jams in a mood, so your thoughts are likely to be more negative. Instead, use that anger and turn it into an energy for a purpose and sense of good. Got your eye on that cigarette deck/e-cig and want to take a puff to ‘calm down’ even though you want to stop? Now is the time to convince yourself to make a change. You might as well benefit in some capacity from this trap; use traffic time to look at how you can improve yourself, and you might come out the other side feeling productive instead of pensive.

Read/Listen to Something Worthwhile.

Instead of reading Twitter 85 times or gasping at the latest transfer rumor about your team, read something worthwhile. If you can’t read on your screen/don’t want to take your eyes off the road (advised), get an audiobook. Then you can make the most of that audio capacity on your hardware. Make it something actually worthwhile. You keep putting off that HP Lovecraft audiobook… why not listen to that instead of yet another radio show?

Prepare for Work.

We’ve all been there. Get the rear view that little mirror down. Make sure your teeth look good, and ensure you’ve got some mouthwash to help make certain you won’t upset anyone’ nostril when you get to work. Sort out the tie, and the hair, and everything else you can fix, clean and correct without being accused of being a pervert in the middle of a traffic jam.

Clean it Out.

You’ve got nothing else to do – why not give your car a bit of a clear? Admit it, it’s a bit of a sty. If you are in total gridlock and cannot move, get an empty bag and start filling that bag with whatever is lying around. Organize all of the stuff in your glove compartment. Put that scarf up that’s lying under about 804 newspapers. Simple stuff, but it’s more productive than just gritting your teeth until you get moving again.

Ask Him/Her Out. The last one is the one that you were hoping we’d bring up, and we are giving you permission. Go for it. Pick up the phone and send that certain him or her a message. Ask them out, you’ve been on the brink of doing it for weeks. Wait for any longer, and they’ll presume you aren’t interested. You’ve got a good rapport, and if he/she responds it’ll leave you in a wonderful mood for the rest of the day. That traffic jam will stop being so frustrating. Yeah, they might say no and make it worse…but you’re losing concentration anyway thinking about them, so come on – DO IT!

Act on one of these (definitely the last one, Romeo/Juliet) and make sure that you don’t keep dreading the morning/evening/whenever traffic jam quite so much in the future

Animals

Wow: Jaw Dropping Animal Camouflage

Animals are, of course, the best thing about this hunk of rock that we live on. Sure, technology is cool and stuff, but animals trump anything we mere meat bags can ever accomplish. So, when we came across this awesome collection of animals and creatures that manage to blend in and camouflage with the world around them.

Let’s take a look at some of nature’ more awesome hidden gems, quite literally.

The Wrap-Around Spider.

These tremendous(ly terrifying) arachnids from Australia are like assassins. They can wrap around a tree or a branch to make sure that they are unseen, and can use that as camouflage to escape from other predators. Given it’s always got the jump on you, though, we might suggest that this arachnid might win most of its encounters.

The Grey Owl.

Always wise and intelligent, it’s no surprise that owl’ are great at hiding. Look at this one blending into a tree almost perfectly, more or less making sure it cannot be seen. Given their nocturnal nature, they’ll blend in with the darkness and the natural trees to help make them more or less impossible to see; hauntingly awesome, right?

Stone Flounder.

The Stone Flounder is a unique form of fish, that lies among salty and fresh water. It’s a rich and powerful fish, and spends a lot of its time simply blending in with the environment. You see, this fish has the chance to simply blend in with the environment as it sees fit.
