High School Junior Makes Dream Prom Dress for Date

When it comes to our High School prom, we all know how big and important it makes us feel. For a lot of kids, it’s one of those nights that they look back on with lifelong affection. Sadly, like most events we go to as teens and kids, our proms are often places where a lot of judgments about people are made.

How expensive your suit/dress is becoming a major part of the argument for a lot of people. Sadly, we live in a society where we rate how ‘cool’ someone is based on how much their parents can afford to spend on a dress.

However, Parker Smith wasn’t one for putting up with such nonsense. This kid, who must go down as one of the most awesome kids in his generation, decided that he wanted to do something special.

Despite having no sewing skills whatsoever, he learned the art and created the dream prom dress for his prom date. She and her family couldn’t afford to buy her the dream gown she wanted, and so Mr. Smith stepped up to the plate – and then some.

His partner for the evening, Addi Rust, couldn’t afford the dream gown that she wanted. So when she asked Parker to make the dress for her – mostly as a joke – he decided to set about doing so. Judging by the photos, he has done an absolutely amazing job on the sewing job.

He would make parts of the dress more than once in a bid to perfect the style and shape of the design. Of course, Mr. Smith didn’t do this all on his own: like any smart boy, he got help from his beloved grandmother to help him make sure it was just right!

A prom dream come true

A beautiful blue ball gown came into being, then, and Addi was able to head off to prom looking absolutely fantastic – while being at prom date with one of the best up-and-coming young sewers in the community, from the looks of things!

He kept adding more and more to it, eventually creating an endearing and creative dress that perfectly achieved the aim: making Addi very happy on her big evening. Addi knew what it was going to look like throughout the process, as Parker kept her up-to-date on the entire process.

She even praised him on social media for his amazing attention to detail, and for creating a wonderful prom dress that, clearly, made her very happy indeed. Remember girls, if you’re going to get a prom date, make sure it’s a guy who has the skills and the self-belief to create an outfit for you!

Playing right up to his role as Prince Charing, he even played the role of slipping on a white heel onto her fool – a proper Cinderella story that we can all enjoy!

UK Using Smart Billboards to Secretly Ad-target Shoppers

Many shopping centers in the UK have adopted a new kind of ad technique that involves surveillance cameras in shopping center billboards. These cameras are used to spy on you in order to show you the “correct” advertisement. The new technology has the ability to identify your age, gender, and even mood.

The smart boards detect how long certain customers look at advertisements and then change what they display depending on who is walking past.

So far, The Sunday Times has happened upon 50 of these screens in the UK; several of them can be found at Westfield shopping center in Shepherd’s Bush, London.

Apparently, companies utilizing this equipment don’t legally need to inform their shoppers that they are being filmed because the system complies with the UK’s data protection laws. Since no individually identifying information is being collected or stored, no laws are being broken.

First Company to Try This

One of the first companies to try this system out is Ocean Outdoor. The LookOut system is found in multiple tracking billboards throughout the UK.

Tim Bleakley, the company’s chief executive, told The Sunday Times: “We pioneered a facial detection technology which identifies the characteristics of the face to allow you to talk to advertisers about mood, gender, emotion and those kinds of things. We can measure the level of happiness or sadness. We can measure the dwell time.”

Bleakley told of how satisfied the supermarket executives of Waitrose were when they sprayed fake snow into the store and saw how evidently ‘customer happiness levels’ rose.

The cameras installed into the billboards spend every hour analyzing the shoppers to see what kind of people shopped and when they shopped. At times, shoppers are even inserted into adverts, a feature called ‘interactive advertising.’ One promotional video from Ocean Outdoor implied that the technology can determine how many ‘affluent’ people are in the area.

One of the billboards at Canary Wharf stated that 49 percent of people walking past that day were “affluent” and earned “over £100,000 ($129,000).”

The technology of Ocean Outdoor can be used on roadside billboards to figure the price of passing cars and advertise expensive things to those it thinks have lots of money.

Quividi is a French firm that also sells the facial detection technology and says that it collects and processes images of people in milliseconds but then deletes them forever once their basic profile information has been taken. Determining someone’s gender can be done with 90 percent accuracy within a five-year age bracket.

Are These Grass Shoes Set To Change The Industry?

When Nike tend to release a new pair of shoes, they tend to make a big splash in the market. As one of the market leaders and one of the most innovative companies around, they tend to know how to add something new to the market. Their latest product release, though, might be a step too far in the radical direction for some: a pair of shoes covered in grass.

These new golf shoes, made from grass, were recently set out as one of their biggest moves in the 2019 market. While it looks rather odd to begin with, it’s definitely something a little different to the norm. It is, though, definitely an interesting concept: and one that we’re sure plenty of golf fans will probably love putting on their feet.

The price of $149, though, will immediately put quite a lot of people off making the investment in the first place. They are supposed to blend in with whatever grass you happen to be playing on, which is quite an interesting take. Usually, we wear shoes to make sure we don’t blend into the ground too much!

A New Take On Turf

As you might imagine, too, the shoes brought more than their fair share of comical complaints and positive responses. As one user so eloquently put it: “Why would I want to play a gold shoe that makes you look like you are playing out of the rough!”

However, Nike are one of the largest manufacturers around, and have a bit of a habit of being trend-setters. We can probably see these selling pretty well, even if they would definitely not appeal to the average punter. Known for their innovation and desire to break trends, a pair of grass-made shoes might just do that!

Outside of their rather creative look, these shoes are also supposed to be designed to provide high quality comfort when playing golf. They might look a little on the wild side, but it’s fair to say that these must have a market for them – why else would Nike make them unless they’d see that there was an interest in such a release?

Meet Shudu – The First Instagram Avatar Model

Only a few years ago the biggest fashion houses in the world relied on scouting for models to find people with the perfect features to match their brand. This went on for a long time, and many supermodels were discovered. Now some years later it has become too hectic of a task to organize campaigns and castings to scout for models.

We have found out that the perfect model can be created in 3D. We are still in awe of the features of Shudu. She is the 3D creation of the London based photographer Cameron James Wilson. Shudu is an African model; she has already gathered over 130,000 followers on Instagram since she was introduced as the first digital model.

The creation of Shudu is not very surprising; we have seen new innovative apps that can be used to transform pictures into sketches and other fancy images. The filters have also been improved to make pictures on smartphones look extraordinary.

The widespread use of digital pictures creates a potential market for innovative people like Cameron. He can start getting offers to use Shudu on the cover of digital magazines rather than the companies going through the long process of finding real models for their covers.

Another popular digital model named Lil Miquela is already making the news in this area. She has already been featured on the cover of some magazines and has a growing social media following that will increase her popularity.

The advantage creators of digital models have is that designers and editors of magazines are interested in using new faces. Models that have never been used by other brands. It is almost impossible because successful models have earned their fame and money by working with many big brands.

Cameron has taken this business seriously; he sees a huge potential and a lot of future possibilities. Cameron recently launched his agency called The Digital which is going to be focused on creating and developing more digital models to meet the needs of the fashion and entertainment companies.

When asked how much it costs to create one 3D model avatar Cameron reveals that it costs thousands of dollars and many hours. There are a lot of details to consider such as the features of the model. The clients need perfection, and this is what his company aims to provide.

Digital models are easier to work with; all the editors need is a good computer and lots of time to do the editing. It will be relatively cheaper to work with avatars than real models that can make absurd demands and hold projects to ransom because of their personal needs. However, the digital model avatars will not put the real human models out of a job because of the runway.

The challenge for Cameron and other creators of the digital avatar is to make their creations look as real as possible. It is going to be quite distracting for viewers when they know the model they are looking at is not a real human with obvious graphics features. However, when they look indisputably real, the digital avatars will eventually be accepted globally.

We want to be better…So if you found a mistake in this article, please let us know

After making the Bulls champions in a 3-peat, he decided to try his luck in baseball. Public opinion thought this was a joke and that Air Jordan is about to tarnish his NBA legacy forever.

Things You Probably Did Not Know About The Hermès Birkin Bag

Even if you don’t like it, The Hermès Birkin bag is the most famous and the most wanted handbag in the world. People who adore fashion have absolutely heard numerous information of its creation, how it is made and how hard can it be to get one. Still, there are more interesting stories even for those who believe they know everything about them.

The original Birkin bag was envisioned and sketched in airplane

The story began in 1981, when Jane Birkin was sitting next to CEO of Hermès. She complained to him how it is difficult to find a good bag after her husband destroyed her basket two days earlier. Interestingly, sketch for the first bag was made on a barf bag.

Jane Birkin currently uses her fifth bag

A woman after whom this bag was named after has somewhere unusual views regarding the bag. She uses only one bag at the time, in a neutral color. Also, she uses it until it is wrecked and even then, she auctions it for charity. Jane loves to personalize her bag, by adding patches and charms, believing this make the bag less formal and snobbish.

Hermès gives nominal royalty to Jane Birkin for the use of her name

In the beginning, Birkin received a free bag for this purpose. Even though she is not a formal ambassador or face of Hermès, she receives an annual amount she gives to charity. This payment was rumored to be £30,000 in 2012.

Birkin bag can be bought in more than 20 shades of blue

Although the bag is usually pictured in popular neutrals, an entire rainbow spectrum of colors exists. During 31 years of existence, at least 25 blues are produced, including popular shades named Mykonos, Bleu Roi and Blue Jean.

It takes 48 hours to make a Birkin bag

All of Hermès bags are made by the single artisan. He or she needs 48 working hours to finish it, meaning it takes over a week to craft a single bag.

Each artisan has personal tools for manufacturing

Every employee included in bag’s creation gets a personal set of tools after they are employed at Hermès. When he or she gets retired, they get to keep their set.

The most expensive piece ever cost nearly a quarter million dollars

This Birkin is made of crocodile skin, with diamonds and 18k white gold details. It was sold in auction and its exact price was $221,844.

Birkins can be purchased easier than you think

Usually, there are stories about endless waiting lists and also about clients purchasing various Hermès products in order to eventually being offered to buy a Birkin. Still, if you are lucky and if you ask nicely, you can enter Hermès store for the first time and buy it.

“Himalayan” Birkin is named after its color, not after its origin
Although this one is pretty obvious, a significant number of people associate Hermès Himalayan Crocodile Birkin with an origin of crocodiles from which it is made of. This is, of course, untrue, as crocodiles like warm weather. Name of this super-rare bag is derived after its unique color resembling mountain top with snow.

Even if you don’t like it, The Hermès Birkin bag is the most famous and the most wanted handbag in the world. People who adore fashion have absolutely heard numerous information of its creation, how it is made and how hard can it be to get one. Still...

The Creepy and Cute Style of Pastel Goth

In today’s world there are so many different fashion styles that it’s practically impossible to keep up with all of them. All the styles that were around decades ago, while your parents were partying teenagers, now have dozens of their sub-styles which have their own sub-styles, which have their own sub-styles…and so on, you get the the point. With today’s accessibility off mass media, especially the Internet, it’s much easier to come across different fashion styles on social networks, online magazines and even websites with clothing catalogues. Since we already mentioned the generation of your parents, do you remember the fashion of the gothic subculture? Well, today it’s much different from what it used to be back than, and it has so many different variations, from Victorian goth, hippie goth, cyber and tribal goth to the newest goth styles that just recently gained popularity due to the social media (especially Tumblr), such as nu goth and pastel goth. If you use Tumblr, there’s a strong chance you have already had a chance to see what pastel goth fashion looks like on your dashboard. If not, we are here to introduce you to this fashionable combination of creepy and cute.

Hair

Pastel, pastel and more pastel! This style is all about light and dreamlike exotic hair colours, such as baby pink or green, lavender, peach, mint blue ivory, and even grey and white. It is not unusual to mix a few different colours and get a unique sky-like hair. Hair accessories with flowers, spikes, or creepy details such as bows with eyeballs or skeleton hands are a must! And this applies to both guys and girls.

Clothes

Leg garters combined with cute skirts and dresses, usually black or in any pastel colour, leggings with prints of crosses, bats, yin yang symbols, cats or dripping colours are widely used in pastel goth fashion. Of course, you can’t be wrong with ripped black skinny jeans either. Upper parts of clothing are often sweaters or shirts with text written in thick dripping fonts, which are usually sarcastic or offensive statements about you, as the person watching their outfit, or statements about the person wearing the top. Also, it could be just a low-pixel clip art of a cheesebruger. Wearing a shirt with a studded collar under the sweater really emphasises the edginess of these creepy-cute followers.

Other than dripping texts, pastel goths are really into colourful and low-pixel pictures and clip arts of animals, bows, food, cats, symbols, accessories or pretty much anything. The use of customised fonts on pink or backgrounds with nebulas, along with glitter and cartoon characters and rainbow is also quite common.

Shoes

Pastel goths are usually seen in creepers and other shoes with high platforms, but heels with platforms, Dr. Martens and even your old Converse shoes can work! Just make sure to have some pastel or flower detail, and you’re good to go.

Accessories

Studs, bows, flowers, glitter, half-moon symbols, pills, crosses wings and skeletons come in all shapes and sizes in this fun style. Another relevant part of the culture are big toy-like backpacks, often in shapes of bats, cats, already mentioned cheeseburgers or even unicorns. Chokers are long necklaces with simple symbols are a necessity.

In today’s world there are so many different fashion styles that it’s practically impossible to keep up with all of them. All the styles that were around decades ago, while your parents were partying teenagers, now have dozens of their sub-styles...

Fashion Design Does Matter

Fashion design is a type of art dedicating to the creations of making clothes and many different modern life accessories.  To be a fashion designer you should have an artistic, creative personality, being able to express yourself and your ideas visually, on the paper for example. Not meaning that you have to be an artist, but to have taste in these things, such as color-combining, tones or shades, and to have a wide visual imagination, as many of them like arts, are visiting galleries, working and interacting with many different artists, as for the work, the same as for their own pleasure. Modern fashion design is split into two forms or categories: Ready to wear, and haute couture.

dreamstime_s_18831145

The haute couture culture is directed towards some specific customers and these clothes are fitting these exact customers perfectly, and Ready to Wear collections are standards, made for everyone, so they will be wider cast in sales, in bigger amounts, but for the less price. It is hard to understand the audience’s needs and to meet the customer’s requirements. These designers should have smooth communication skills, and the ability to express themselves clearly. Bringing designing clothes to marketing is more complex process than you thought, and it’s not only designer’s mission to work for the process flowing from start to the end.

dreamstime_s_21460828

Fashion designers usually start applying their ideas as they reach consumer’s tastes for fashion brands in the fashion market, later on, they can grow some initiative for making new clothes according to this data. Designers rarely work alone, since the process of creating a concept, literally making a pattern for the clothing article, putting it together and making it a living project is too much for one person to handle. Most people think that they have an easy job and that their education is all about knowing designing techniques and learning of people’s tastes, but to be a decent fashion designer you should also have a knowledge of things like math, art history, science and probably, if you are an independent designer, of some business management.

This profession is also known for being “glamorous”, it is competitive as well, a difficult industry to fit into. When citizens and even celebrities are wearing clothes that you made is probably very exciting, and it probably means that you’re a good one. It requires perseverance and patience, but in general, the reward makes it worth, if you preserve.

Fashion designers should be aware of standards and market requirements. They must be always learning new things, including fashion itself, read magazines, learn about fashion history, etc…

Fashion is actually, a very important notion in our lives. The clothes you wear, the way you look like is very important these days, it tells much about your personality, people get judged, people getting rejected for job opportunities, or getting some, all for the way you look. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have money to afford some things you might, but you should have a sense of taste, and feel what goes with you, should never be static, because there is no such thing as the one fitting everyone.

What to Expect from Fashion in 2017.

In a year that is ahead of us is a whole bunch of designer collaborations, exciting exhibitions and new label launches that are already confirmed. There are some events that you should be aware of…

We are expecting a reminding exhibition of Princess Diana’s era-defining style in February. To be precise, 24th February is the day of opening Diana: Her fashion story. The late princess is an enduring style icon and this will provide a fresh insight of her. One of the things to see will be her Victor Edelstein velvet gown in which she danced with John Travolta in the White House back in 1985. The exhibition will be held at the Princess’s London home, Kensington Palace, where she lived for 15 years.

Alexa Chung will launch her own label in May. Fans of Chung’s work waited for this news for a long time. After being a fashion plate for years, Alexa will at last launch her own line in spring this year. Her new brand is expected to be a contemporary-priced, ready-to-wear line which was designed by this TV presenter and model all by herself so that we could get a slice of her style.

May will be very busy month for fashion fans, because Balenciaga will take over the V&A. This was announced in October by V&A as the major fashion showcase for 2017. It will be a retrospective of Cristóbal Balenciaga’s work that was titled Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion. 80 years have passed since Mr Balenciaga opened his doors of iconic Paris salon, and the exhibition will feature over 100 of his most innovative and glamorous fashion silhouettes.

In February, there will also be a couple of major designer debuts. Raf Simons has been working for Calvin Klein for some time now, and we will finally get a glimpse of his work. New York Fashion Week will be the place where this ex-Dior designer will make his debut. Another thing to be excited for is the first collection from design duo Monse. They have just taken the helm at Oscar de la Renta. Zayn Malik also has his first collection, which is, at the same time, his first attempt in fashion design that he will be presenting for Versus Versace during London Fashion Week. To see if it will be any good, we will have to wait for another two months.

At the peak of the spring, in April, there will come to a collaboration between Victoria Beckham and Target. US retail giant and Victoria will team up so she could become the next designer with a high street line. This will hit our stores on 9th April. Net-A-Porter should stock the collection in the UK just like when Peter Pilotto collaborated with Target and that makes us happy because we will be able to get our hands on some VB’s designs.

Selena Gomez and Coach will also team up somewhere around September or October. In 2016, Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger did exactly what Selena and Coach are hoping to achieve in 2017. As a matter of fact, it should probably be even more because next autumn, the singer and actress will collaborate with the all-American label. Their campaign should kick off in winter 2017, also launching a charity design project including a female empowerment organization Step Up.

Is Fashion an Art?

Is fashion really an art? The topic everyone on the world wide web is talking about. Yes, it is! No, it isn’t?

Even in past, history has shown us that people dressed to express themselves. Everything started with ancient Egyptians. Their clothing was filled with a variation of colors, decorated with precious gems and jewels. And it was not only made for beauty, but also for comfort. Also, their clothes have been made to keep them cool while they are in the desert. Then ancient Greeks discovered some other materials and styles. Clothing in ancient Greek has been mainly made of chiton (costume), peplos (women clothes), himation (usually worn over a chiton) and chlamys (some type of short overcoat). And we are still talking about a period of time around fall of ancient Egyptian, Greek and the Roman empire. As humans evolved, and everything around them, so did fashion.

We can see in British culture from the 1830s to 1910s some really interesting changes in fashion, including changes in styles. Clothes were seen as an expression women’s place in society. Upper-class women usually tightly laced corset over a bodice or chemisette, paired with a skirt. The hat was standard formal wear for upper and middle-class men. Woman’s shoes in the early Victorian period (the 1830s) were narrow and heelless, black or white color. The heel on the shoes changed with time, like ethics and value.

Yes, we know, fashion is fashion and art is art. But we live in a modern world where everything is “growing” so fast, and we are humans and our basic need is to express ourselves. So, can fashion also be an art form? Museums are showing fashion just as much as paintings, or other art. Fashion can tell you about history, events, culture, etc. Many of the clothes seen going down the fashion runway don’t have any particular use, and many designers create impractical clothes just because they want to show their creativity, which is exactly what artist do in their craft. Designers are expressing themselves through clothes they made. I agree that there are many big brand names that make clothes that they think is going to be popular, just so they can sell and make money. But still, there are many true artists who express themselves in the way of creation. “A lot of designers collaborate with artists and incorporate features of art into their work such as Yves Saint Laurent and Piet Mondrian in 1965. Yves Saint Laurent’s dress was inspired by artist the Piet Mondrian. It was inspired by Piet Mondrian’s work which mainly consisted of thick black lines and primary colors. In this case, fashion was literally art.”

Fashion is not necessarily about labels, it’s not about brands. It’s something else that comes within the human being. What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, it’s your identity. Especially today, when human contacts are so quick, fashion is instant language. It’s a simple way of saying complicated things.

The African Hairstyle Exhibition That Will Blow You Away

There are many ways to utilize your natural hair when it comes to style and design; people have come up with the most intriguing looks that have set trends worldwide. One unnoticed trend and style is the hair of African women, and how they utilize their gorgeous curls. One weave and afro stylist, Lisa Farrall, decided to pay tribute to African culture and exceed beyond the percieved limits of how afros and weaves can be stylized. Her collection is called ‘Armor’, and it dedicates its image to cultural references with a mix of fabulous hair styles as well as a blend of warrior style clothing.

For a moment, let us admire the beauty of the woman in the picture. Her dark skin is pure and smooth, while her hair has a very intriguing weave blended into the warrior look. The painting along her body makes for more of an artistic feel, and overall she sits in a position of power and grace.

Now, this look is more of a powerful Goddess one, showing more of a stronger side on the warrior figure. The hair is everything in this picture, even more than the outfit itself. I admire the ringed necklace combined with the pure black dress. The hair looks one hundred percent natural, and the tint of white color makes it ten times more elaborate. For this look, I give it a ten out of ten!

Last but not least, we have the look of the mysterious warrior, hiding like a wolf in sheeps clothing. The silk hair matching the elaborately simple dress that leaves us wondering what this look represents in the aspect of African Culture. The white paint is subtle on the hair while the face is decorated with an intriguing pattern that makes you wonder about her story, and who she is.

dreamstime_s_38090574

Overall, this collection truly leaves us in awe of the beauty of African women and African culture. It is truly amazing to see these different looks, and the models pulling it off at more than one hundred percent. The Striped Shirt That Has the World Going Crazy

Do any of you remember back in 2015 when there was an illusional dress that was surfacing the internet, driving all of us insane guessing what color it was? Some thought gold, and others thought navy blue, but either way, we all lost our marbles trying to figure it out. The dress was so popular that it even became a character on the hit game, Crossy Road, and we all were left wondering how this had happened. The theme behind the dress was an illusion on the eyes, and this young ladie’s selfie has us feeling the same as we did way back when.

The selfie starts off with the view of a beautiful girl, and a gorgeous striped shirt, simply looking like herself. It then follows with a few more selfies as the focus comes more to the shirt, and the illusion continues.

As you look into the shirt, the stripes turn into a trippy, headache yielding set of stripes. If you remember from the original tweet above, the shirt started off innocent looking, like a simple shirt from Forever 21. As we zoom into the shirt even more, we come to see that the illusion continues, even as the shirt goes back to its normal state.

With this occurence, people began to go crazy and start fearing that the end of the world was near. Tweeters even went as far and wild as to think Satan was here on Earth. Talk about overdramatic.

At least one user had some common sense, and actually took to her twitter to say something ten times more than hilarious.

That has to be one of the more funny reactions that we have seen yet regarding this illusional phenomena. For anyone with a brain, we can see that this shirt is clearly designed by an intelligent designer who wanted to use optical illusions as a fashion. Gotta hand it to whoever it was, whether or not they intended to start a fire on twitter, they truly succeeded. What a great way to start off 2017; drive the public wild with what seems to be magic in the thread!
