Virgin Galactic Unveils its Spaceport

The countdown for Virgin Galactic’s “Gateway to Space” has truly begun as it edges closer to being the first publicly-traded space tourism company to successfully take customers into space.

A week ago, the company showed off its new New Mexico spaceport to the public, and it looks like those first $250,000-ticket tourists are in for the ride of their life. The facility is part of the state-run Spaceport America in Las Cruces, New Mexico, which also hosts facilities for SpaceX, EXOS Aerospace, and other companies

The interior is reminiscent of a retro, 1960s vibe, but the technology is nothing but modern. You’ll find a barista where you can get a latte for your flight and an interactive walkway to enjoy, as well. The social hub is located on the first floor, called Gaia. Cirrus, the second floor, is where the operations center and mission control is located.

Though the third floor is yet to be revealed, the company has stated that it will be a lounge for their space-flying customers. “Each floor developed has a nice story connecting it back to social activity on Earth,” says designer Jeremy Brown. “Then moving through the mission control part of the building with lighter material references there.”

The Future is Now

Virgin Galactic’s CEO George Whitesides says, “We’re on the home stretch now.” In just a matter of weeks, the aircraft carrier will head to Mojave, where the company’s test facilities are located. There, it will pick up Virgin’s spacecraft, the VMS Unity, and transport it back to New Mexico where test flights will ensue.

Once all the kinks have been worked out and Virgin Galactic is satisfied with their finished product, they’ll be ready to take on their first commercial flight. Currently, 603 reservations have been made for spaceflight, totaling about $80 million in deposits.

They haven’t marketed for tickets since 2014, but once commercial space flights have commenced, Virgin Galactic will be offering new tickets for at least $250,000.

Back in July, the company announced that they would be merging with Social Capital Hedosophia, which will invest $800 million for a 49% stake in the company. In addition, they’ll trade on the New York Stock Exchange.

You may be thinking, “Who even has enough money sitting around to afford one of these flights?” But you’d be surprised to discover that the company received over 2,500 inquiries for reservations for the first flight in December 2018, and more are clamoring since last week’s unveiling.

When everything is set for that first commercial flight, customers will board the Unity, which will be attached to the underside of the aircraft Eve, and once the airplane flies to around 50,000 feet, the rocket will detach and launch into space where passengers will get a stunning view of both space and Earth.

For a few minutes, they’ll be free from the restraints of their seats to experience the weightlessness until it’s time to head back home. In total, the duration of the flight is going to be around 3-4 hours from take-off to landing.

Delta Passenger on ‘Private’ Plane Left Out One Important Detail

Vincent Peone’s video Tweet went viral last week as it showed him boarding a private Delta flight from Aspen, Colorado to Salt Lake City, Utah as the only passenger. He captioned the short clip, “Last week @Delta gave me my own private jet…kind of.” It seems, however, that the award-winning director may have stretched the truth a bit.

The full story is that, though Peone did board that flight as the only passenger, it never took off! Peone later claimed that his video was “100 percent true” – before he stopped filming, that is!

Well… Kind Off

“After the private jet broke down again with mechanical problems, I took a normal one the following morning,” he confesses in his tweet.

Peone feels no contrition over his post, and though he took a flight alongside other passengers the next day, he’s enjoying the moment of viral fame.

“The footage I have tells a short, funny, and positive story – because those are the kind of stories I like to tell. I make comedy!” he wrote.

He also added, “I had some laughs with the amazing crew while living the dream.”

Delta also has no negative feelings about Peone’s post but, rather, responded to his popular Twitter with a thank you for shouting out to them. Most likely, several others had no issue with his post either as it gave them the opportunity to drool over the “hot pilot” Peone had on the would-be private flight.

When Should I book a Domestic Flight?

Flight fares are known to fluctuate due to many reasons. Higher demand for tickets can influence the rate at which it is sold at that particular time. There are also situations when the airline needs to sell out its tickets for the fast approaching flight schedule. In such a situation, it might be compelled to significantly reduce the flight fares in view of encouraging the public who wish to visit the flight destinations during that period.

The festive seasons and holidays are also periods when flight fares are quite high. Knowing the best time to get a good deal will require a careful study of the trends. However, some flight booking agencies have suggested the best time to get good deals.

Many suggestions projected by flight booking agencies and related online blogs suggest that the best flight deals are usually available at least 70 days before the departure date. Some frequent travelers have disputed this claim as merely a coincidence, while other reports have indicated that the best deals can be found at least 120 days before the departure date.

These assumptions may not influence the flight fares for some travel destinations that record high traffic such as tourist destinations. From these projections, it can be safe to assume that booking for your domestic flight well ahead of the planned date of departure can help you find some very cheap flight deals.

How much can we save?

On the average, you may be able to save about $200 or even more on flight deals. Your savings will depend on the location and how good the deal is at that time. Some flight destinations are known to feature very cheap deals, and the price goes even lower when there is a discount offer. Overall, finding the best fight deals may require some planning and daily analysis. If you have the time for this exercise, then you may just be flying at extremely low rates.

Checking the flight details daily, randomly entering in dates from 120 days to 21 days before your departure can reveal unbelievable flight rates. And you will also notice that on some days, the flight fares were significantly higher than other days. For example, booking for domestic flights anytime between 169-319 days may reveal higher flight fares with an addition of over $50, while booking very close to the departure date will reveal flight fares that may be higher by as much as $200.

Best days of the week

It is widely propagated that booking domestic flights on Tuesdays is the best option for everyone who wishes to enjoy lower flight fares. This makes some sense, Tuesdays are low traffic days, and the airlines need to make money.

However, other reports have indicated that Wednesdays are the best days to book domestic flights while Sundays are the most expensive days on domestic routes.
From these speculations, you can benefit by considering all these options. Some travelers must have noticed cheaper rates on Tuesdays to claim it is the best day to book domestic flights due to cheaper fares, same as Wednesday.

The claim that Sunday flight bookings are more expensive makes logical sense too. As earlier mentioned, you can start planning to get your cheaper flight bookings with the following information. Start checking for cheaper domestic flight fares at least 120 days to the departure date, and search for flight bookings on days such as Tuesday and Wednesday for the best results.

Flight fares are known to fluctuate due to many reasons. Higher demand for tickets can influence the rate at which it is sold at that particular time. There are also situations when the airline needs to sell out its tickets for the fast approaching flight...

Top 5 Beginners Mountain Climbing Destinations

Mountain climbing is one of the best outdoor activities. Aside from the direct contact you have with the natural environment, you can add some ‘medals to your collar’ while boasting about your mountain climbing adventure to friends and family (or potential partners, wink wink, say no more). Nothing compares to the joy of reaching a summit.

So, if you are considering mountain climbing, here are five destinations that will be worth your time.

Mount Fuji, Japan, 3,776m

Mount Fuji can be spotted from the many locations in Japan. Its peak stands tall at close to 4,000m, making it one of the most adventurous mountains to climb. For this adventure, you will need endurance and stamina while hiking up the popular Kawaguchiko trail.

The estimated time it will take to reach the summit, which is 3,776m, is 8 hours. Mount Fuji is one of the most climbed mountains and the best period to embark on this adventure is from the beginning of July to the end of August.

Pikes Peak, United States, 4,302m

America also offers great mountain climbing adventure, and one of the best destinations is the Pikes Peak, which stands at 4,302m. The trail is about 21km. This is an adventure only for the fit hikers and from the top, you can get a ride down on the cog railway, or a ride down with one of the weakling tourists who drove their cars to the summit.

Tofana di Rozes, Italy, 3,225m

If you are in Italy, the 3,225m Tofana di Rozes offers an exciting mountain climbing experience. It is a five-hour climb during which you will need protective gear due to the rocky terrain up the Ferrata Lipella route. However, you don’t need to be an experienced mountain climber to overcome this feat.

Mount Hood, United States, 3,426m

At the height of 3,426m, Mount Hood offers experienced and amateur climbers an opportunity to have a great climbing experience that can be compared to mountain climbing in other parts of the world. Because of the snow, you will need to use ice axes and crampons to get through, but it’s not difficult.

The best period for the half-day journey starts from late April until June due to the accommodating weather during this period.

Breithorn (via the Normal Route), Switzerland, 4,164m

In Switzerland, a memorable mountain climbing experience is exploring the Breithorn. It reaches as high as 4,000m, one of the most popular peaks in the Alps. There will be snow so you will need ice axes and crampons for this adventure. The normal route will get you up to 3,883m, very close to the peak.

These are some great mountain climbing options for people who want to experience this new outdoor activity. When you have conquered these peaks, you can go on to more difficult mountain terrains such as the Mountain Everest or the Himalayan Mountains.

Saint Patrick was a gentleman

Who through strategy and stealth

Drove all the snakes from Ireland

Here’s a drinkee to his health!

But not too many drinkees

Lest we lose ourselves and then…

Forget the good Saint Patrick

And see them snakes again!

The Blessing of the Irish

May the Good Lord take a liking to you… but not too soon!

One has just entered my head.

If a man doesn’t drink when he’s living,

How in the hell can he drink when he’s dead?”

World’s Longest Zip Line Opens in The Middle East

While the city of Dubai has been famous for its tourism, in the United Arab Emirates another city, Ras Al Khaimah, is on its way to attract millions of tourists now.

Recently they opened for business the world’s longest zip line, beating the previous record of the monster zip wire in Puerto Rico which was 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) long. This new zip wire is 2.83 kilometers (1.75 miles) long, in other words, it is 28 soccer fields long and located at the Jebel Jais Mountain. Watch the video below!

If you ever wanted to fly like a superman, you should really visit this place. You glide 1680 meters (1 mile) above sea level at a speed of 150 kph (90 mph). The ride is both short and scary.
This 2-minute ride costs $177 but it is said to be worth the money. If you are not scared of heights and have got the money, nothing can stop you.

The ride is open to all ages as long as the person weighs a minimum of forty-five kilograms (100 pounds) and a maximum of 150 kilograms (330 pounds). There are two lines, side by side, so you can ride alongside your friends or family.

The ride is in the mountainous region which gives it a natural view, as the ride was built without changing or harming the existing area. While you are at the place, you can also take the adrenaline rushing cable car ride which is almost one kilometer long.

They also plan on building an ice rink (in the desert?!), a hiking area and mountain biking routes for the tourists to enjoy. Moreover, they are also planning to make a new viewing deck which will be 1300 meters above the Jebel Jais which will showcase the mountains view.

The Emirates have set the goal of one million visitors to Ras Al Khaimah by the end of 2018. Let’s see if they will be able to reach their target or not. Stay tuned!

Back To The Past: Weird Flight From Auckland to Hawaii Goes Back in Time

While most people had a thoroughly awful 2017 if you look at social media and the news, it appears that some people had to endure it for longer than you might have expected. For anyone who was on the HA446 flight, part of Hawaiian Airlines, they got a little weird insight into just how odd time can be.

The plane, set to leave Auckland at 11:55 PM on New Year’s Eve, would be arriving at Honolulu at 9:45 AM on New Year’s Eve. Given there is close to a full day of time difference from one place to the next, though, it meant that some people got to enjoy New Year twice!

The arrived in Honolulu on December 31st, 2017, despite having been in the skies on January 1st, 2018. A rather odd story, this was one immediately got people wondering just how rare an occurrence this would have been for people flying. Given the fact that most flights are nowhere near as challenging to work out or as distant apart in terms of time zones, this must be one of the few flights in the world where this was made possible.

So, with plenty of people having to miss out on their New Years celebration during the flight, this made it easier for people to get the chance to enjoy it in the wonderful world of Hawaii once they finally landed. The journey was brought to the attention of many people after it went viral on social media, when Sam Sweeney, a transport reporter, posted about it on Twitter with an image showing proof of the madness that was taking place in the skies above us.

As you might imagine, the tweet was re-tweeted en masse as people began to overload the post with GIFs – some appropriate, some less so. One of the most commonly seen, of course, was the famous Back to the Future GIFs that often get posted the minute anything remotely points to an odd consequence of time.

However, is this really so unusual?

According to one person, Anna Wallenstam, this happens a lot. She posted a reply to the Tweet, bursting the party balloons for everyone, stating: “That happens every time a plane crosses the current midnight line – think of it as the border between the kingdoms of 2017 and 2018 – in the wrong direction on New Years.

“In other words, it happens a lot. Still seems to surprise a lot of people every year.”

Indeed, eagle-eyed viewers soon spotted that on this night alone, six planes took off from Taipei in 2018 and landed in US and Canadian locations in 2017. So, it’s not quite as unique as we thought earlier, unfortunately.

Still, it’s a pretty cool occurrence, right?

Predator Accosts Man Cycling Through Woods

In life, we can often find ourselves just looking to escape from day to day living from a little while. We can do that in all manner of ways, from a quick trip on foot to a nice little cycle through some lovely terrain. However, if you happen to step out into the wilds and the woods, you had best be prepared to look after yourself. YouTube channel Deep Bush Survival is living proof of the need to be vigilant wherever we go; you never know what kind of monsters are out there waiting for you!

They show off all manner of videos about survival and getting out of tight spots in the world. One of their most recent videos, though, is one of their most popular – watch it and you will see why…

Shot in October 2015, this video shows one of their team heading off for a ride in a mountainous, forested area on his bike. Relatively away from civilization from the looks of things, he’s cutting around on his bike and continues to showcase a wonderful, temperate location that really is quite wonderful to look at. In the middle of the video, though, we see something rather terrifying appear amongst the long grass.

At first, he does not even appear to notice it in the grass, such is the quality of its camouflage. He only notices the creature when it begins to slowly rustle through the grass to get closer to him. Immediately, he realises that he is in a lot of danger – far more than you would expect going on a standard trip like this.

It’s a mountain lion; one of the most dangerous creatures that you could likely run into in the wild, unarmed and on your own. These are extremely powerful, intelligent and agile cats that could, if they catch you, do you some deal damage – in fact, it’s likely it could even kill you!

As you might imagine, he takes a few steps back but the lion only takes this as encouragement that it has him on the run and proceeds to bound towards him. If it wanted dinner, it was going to catch him in a matter of seconds.

Trying to talk it down, informing it that he is “much bigger” that cat seems entirely unbothered. It starts to circle him like any predator would, creating a rather anxious moment that leaves you wondering how the man is going to get out of this one alive. Trying to scare it away with loud noises, the mountain lion makes some terrifying, low grumbles – showing it’s hungry, and ready to strike.

He tries to mimic its noises, only proceeding to anger it further. A small gap in the film shows us the lion still following the man to the end of a path. Rather than keep this cat and mouse game going, though, he starts to walk towards it in a bid to try and make it think twice – and it does so.

Seemingly put off by not having everything its own way, the cat turns around and stalks back into the woods, off to threaten someone else. With over 2m views at the time of writing, this video is a perfect example of how quickly things can turn dangerous in the wild – and how quickly they can go back to normal, too. How would you react in such a situation?

In life, we can often find ourselves just looking to escape from day to day living from a little while. We can do that in all manner of ways, from a quick trip on foot to a nice little cycle through some lovely terrain. However, if you happen to step out into...

Kayaker Explores Hidden Ghost Ship

When we look around the news, it’s very easy to come across awesome stories that just make us think about the possibilities of the world around us. So many things go undiscovered for years to come, and when they are found it can feel like a whole new world being discovered. For kayakers, though, being able to get out and explore deeper and in more agile circumstance than most boat-users is one of their major advantages.

Romanian kayakers in particular tend to find a lot of awesome stuff when they travel – but one came across something extra special and went to explore it. The Empire’s Strength is an old boat that sits just off the Black Sea coast, close to Costinesti, and has become a regular haunt for those looking to enjoy some exploration.

One kayaker filmed himself making his way through the small cracks and dents within the ship, deciding to risk the potential damage and decay inside to see what awaited inside. Large hidden pieces poking through the water and sharp, torn edges meant that this was no easy trip; wrong moves could be very dangerous indeed.

Even the slightest budge could have forced the decrepit ship to begin falling in on itself, so the kayaker was VERY careful as he edged through each part of the ship, always taking care to explore carefully. The interior was damaged to incredible levels, with the interior being no better than the exterior in terms of visual appeal.

The ship itself was covered in horrible algae, and nothing looked like it could be in any form of useful or even salvageable operation. The ship, though, according to one operator, could have been built by Harland and Wolff, the creators of the famous Titanic.

The ship was a major part of the United Kingdom’ old Ministry of War, serving as a transport ship and to help add a touch of extra bulk and power to the navy of the time. Many boats like it were destroyed and abandoned during the war, and this was no different. While it did survive the war itself, it did not last for too long afterward. It served mostly as a meat transport from Britain to Argentina in the mid-40s.

It was eventually run aground on the Black Sea and was left to rot. Now defunct, it just floats where it is, a floating grave of the past wonders and powers of the British navy and its potential.

While today its nothing more than a husk of something once-special, it makes a wonderful tourist trip for people who are brave enough to make their way in. If you ever find yourself here and have the skills and bravery to kayak in, why not do so? You might find it to be as eye-opening and as enlightening as this kayaker’ video shows!

While the video does not provide anything scary or untoward, it’s nice to see the interior of something that, in operation, was such a glamorous, powerful and important vessel.

When we look around the news, it’s very easy to come across awesome stories that just make us think about the possibilities of the world around us. So many things go undiscovered for years to come, and when they are found it can feel like a whole new world...

Discovering the Sterling Hill Mine

When we hear of people finding unique and amazing items hidden away, it’s always easy to doubt the accuracy. How often do people turn up having found something that nobody else? It’s a super-rare feat and for that reason it is quite hard to believe in. However, the Sterling Hill Mine in Ogdensburg, New Jersey, is a fine example of what we can find with a bit of digging deeper underneath the surface overall.

Once a massive mining town, today it’s nothing like its old self. It was once actually a full-on company town for the New Jersey Zinc Company, and it was like that for a long period of time. As you might imagine, this left a bit of a mark on the community. The mine itself was closed down in 1986 and, sensing something of an opportunity, Dick and Bob Hauck chipped in together and bough the mine at a taxation sale.

Becoming a mine and a tourist attraction, it helps to show people about the hard graft of mining labor and, in a way, serves as a reminder to future generations of how hard things once were. At 35 miles along, it’s one of the longest underground structures in the USA. However, much of that 35 miles is rather interesting to come and look into – if you have the time.

Indeed, a 1990 section of the mine was blasted – around 240-feet in length – to help create a fantastic combination of colours. The area, known as Rainbow Tunnel, looks like a rainbow has dripped from above ground and stained the area, such is the vibrant energy of the colours on the wall.

The Skyland Region, though, is home to all manner of wonderful stones – from sapphires and rubies to jewels and gems of all kinds, this is one of the main reasons why people come down to see these amazing crystal combinations.

The mine itself has a long history, going back as far as the 1630s when British settlers dug in hoping to find copper. It was provided to William Alexander, or Lord Stirling, and before long the mine was known as Stirling Hill. Sold on in 1765 to Robert Ogden, it kept changing hands for many years until the NJZC bought it in the late 1800s. however, in the late 1900s it was forced to be sold to the previously mentioned brothers.

Now the Sterling Hill Mine Tour & Museum of Fluorescence, it is a unique and wonderful home to so many stunning and exciting images. The amazing colours that flow through the mines as well as the growing collection of gems throughout just helps to sell the image of a truly wonderful location that, despite its challenging past and poor working conditions, today stands as a wonderful representation of the beauty beneath our own world.

With over 300 kinds of minerals and roughly 10% of all known minerals found in here, it’s a true representation of the unique beauty of nature. From ores that shine through the limestone to beautiful gems that glisten even in the darkness, this is a truly spectacular place to visit for both beauty and history.

When we hear of people finding unique and amazing items hidden away, it’s always easy to doubt the accuracy. How often do people turn up having found something that nobody else? It’s a super-rare feat and for that reason it is quite hard to believe in...

An Iconic Stone Circle in the British Isles Unveils a Secret Thousands of Years old.

An array of stones arranged in a square was discovered under the Avebury world heritage site considered to be the largest stone circle in the world. The discovery includes a dozen large stones, each approximately 3 meters wide and weighing 40 tons each. According to researchers, the probably indicate the location of an important house dating back to 2000 B.C.

The researchers working at the site theorize that the original site included 100 huge stones arrayed in a circle with a 330 meter diameter. 24 miles from Avebury lays Stonehenge which in comparison is about quarter of the site’s size.

More Impressive than Stonehenge

Avebury is threatening to steal Stonehenge’s thunder by offering a richer, unique and more impressive subterranean attraction – a line of stones. Unlike other stone circles in the area, the stones in the Avebury array were arranged in a square – a parameter that researchers are paying a lot of attention to. According to The Telegraph, the oddest find was a wooden house that occupied the site at around 3500 BC.

Researchers theorize that the Neolithic hut was built by Avebury’s ancestors that as time passed it become an icon of birth of the community that after 1000 years descendents constructed the monumental square around its foundations, lining with massive stones enclosing an obelisk.

Oldest structure in a prehistoric site

Dr Mark Gillings from Leicester University School of Archaeology and Ancient History says that the square has the potential to be the one of the oldest structures in the prehistoric site. “We identified and mapped a line of prehistoric stones that were concealed and buried together with locations of other stones that were destroyed. Together we identified a unique square structure in the internal southern circle.”

According to common beliefs, stone circles were designed as an assembling area for pagan ceremonies, but many of them were destroyed, probably in the mid evil era when they were associated with paganism. Gillings says “There were probably many similar stones around this area at the time. It was quite and engineering feat for the time to arrange them in such a form. It was an endeavor that demanded a lot of hard work.”

In the centuries that followed, the square was dismantled and the stones were used to construct the three impressive stone circles which still stand today. The team also uncovered evidence that lines of stones once cut across the southern inner circle, like spokes on a wheel.

Almost 100 years of research

The new finds conclude Alexander Keiller ‘s research. Dr. Joshua Polard Secretary of the Prehistoric Society and the UK editor of the Journal of Social Archaeology and an archeology professor at Southampton University commented. Keiller, originally a marmalade magnate first discovered the a curious line of standing stones next to a fallen down obelisk in 1939 and started digging (despite thinking it was a middle ages structure). Oddly enough he found mainly domestic artifacts rather than ritual ones. When World War 2 broke out, the dig was abandoned and the site all but forgotten.

Pollard said to The Telegraph: “Our careful programme of geophysical survey has finally completed the work begun by Keiller. Megalithic circles are well known from the time when Avebury was built during the late Neolithic, but square megalithic settings of this scale and complexity are unheard of.”

Dr Nick Snashall, National Trust archaeologist at Avebury, added: “This discovery has been almost eighty years in the making but it’s been well worth waiting for. The completion of the work first started by Keiller in the 1930s has revealed an entirely new type of monument at the heart of the world’s largest prehistoric stone circle, using techniques he never dreamt of.”

An array of stones arranged in a square was discovered under the Avebury world heritage site considered to be the largest stone circle in the world. The discovery includes a dozen large stones, each approximately 3 meters wide and weighing 40 tons each...

They Looking For Lost Uranium. What They Found Literally Electrified Them!

For three decades, since 1942 to 1972 mankind thought it beat nature when the first sustainable nuclear chain reaction was created. All this changed in 1972 when French Pierrelatte uranium enrichment facility compared samples from the Oklo Uranium mine in Gabon, on the west coast of Africa. The U isotope concentration dropped form the normal 0.72% to 0.6%. This could have meant that some isotopes made it to the wrong hands and nuclear weapons or dirty bombs could be made. The French Commission for Nuclear Energy (CEA) began to investigate. What they found was no less than dumbfounding!

The CEA ran a series of tests only to find that the two most significant isotopes of the uranium mined at Oklo showed strange results. Finding more questions than answers, the CEA investigated the uranium ore in the Oklo mine and found concentration levels as low as 0.44%. The reduction in the U isotope is the result of the process in a nuclear reactor. Eliminating all the impossible, the only answer that was left, as improbable as it sounded, was that the mine operated as a natural fission reactor that generated self-sustaining nuclear chain reactions about Earth about 2 billion years ago. Further investigations found other natural fission reactors in the area.

Natural Fission Reactors

The first nuclear power plant went online in 1951. In 1956, five years after the first nuclear powered electric plant was erected, a chemist from the University of Arkansas, Paul L. Kuroda theorized that a combination of uranium and water could become a natural fission reactor, in earth’s early history.

While examining the concentration in the Oklo mine, it was discovered that the original uranium core had higher concentration levels of the Uranium-235 – the isotope ideal to fuel a fission reaction. Isotope u-235 naturally decays into thorium and releases a neutron in the process. The released neutron races towards another U-235 atom and a fission process is commenced.

One of the reasons fission reactions are controllable today are because of low concentrations of u-235 – 0.7% on average. In comparison 4.5 billion years ago, concentration levels were much higher and broke down as time went by. Scientists claim that at a concentration level above 3.2%, probability says a reaction will continue all on its own. Therefore, a key factor that made the reaction possible was that at the time, the fissile isotope U235 made up about 3.2% of the natural uranium, which is comparable to the amount used in some of today’s reactors. It is unknown if Kuroda ever imagined he would be able to view his theory in practice, but evidently, he’s a lucky scientist!

Unique Phenomena

The Oklo, Okelobondo mines and Bangombe mines, located 35 k”m from the Oklo mines are the only known places that natural nuclear fission occurred. For almost 2 billion years it generated an average of 100 Kwh until the uranium 235 was exhausted and no more fission activity could take place. The reactor eventually slowed to a stop, leaving only a few traces behind that it ever existed – including the enigma of the “missing uranium” – the enigma that sparked the research!

Why Are People Waiting for 4 Hours In Line at Disney World? The Answer is Pandora!

Why are people waiting 240 minutes at Walt Disney World? The answer lies in Animal Kingdom. Animal Kingdom recently unveiled the latest expansion to the Disney theme parks, Pandora: World of Avatar. Pandora is a themed area based on the 2009 film Avatar by James Cameron. The project was under development for six years, and now the wait is finally over. Well, in terms of waiting for Pandora to open. Disney fans are so excited about the new Pandora attractions that they’re waiting in line for over 4 hours! Let’s see why.

What’s in Pandora at Animal Kingdom?

In Pandora, you get to feel like you’re on the ex-planetary moon from the film, with all of the wildlife and plants that exist there. Now that Animal Kingdom is open past dark, the new themed area gives fans nighttime experiences that draw them further into the world of Avatar. Pandora stands in the area that was previously Camp Minnie Mickey and focuses on conservation, celebrating the power of nature over us all.

So what exactly are fans standing in line for at Pandora? Disney has two attractions in the area. The first, Avatar: Flight of Passage, where visitors can “take flight” on the back of a Banshee. Flight of Passage is a simulated reality ride that has you soar across the Pandora landscape and features a storyline about the plot to increase the natural population of the Banshee. The attraction’s queue features a walk into the caverns of Pandora where you see images illustrating the connection of the Banshees and Na’vi, the Pandora inhabitants. Next you’ll be taken to a laboratory where you “link” with your banshee. The attraction is described as “incredibly immersive.”

The second attraction is a 4 ½ minute dark ride called Na’vi River Journey. Guests board a boat to travel the Kasvapan River and see the bioluminescent world of Avatar. You’ll see the native animals and plants of the region. It’s a lush landscape where guests will really feel like they’ve left the world behind. The purpose of the attraction — besides offering a place to cool down on a hot day — is taking guests on a search for the Shaman of Songs. The Shaman of Songs is a 10-foot tall Na’vi woman who is a crucial part of the attraction and is a display of the most-advanced Audio Animatronics Disney has ever developed. Early reviews have named the ride a crowning achievement in Disney attractions — which, if you look at all Disney has done over the years, says a lot!

Exploring Pandora at Animal Kingdom

After the attractions, what else is there to do in Pandora? Just walking around the themed area can be enough, thanks to the extensive work Disney put into their creation. Walking through the Valley of Mo’ara, you’ll see Avatar’s floating mountains, a Na’vi drum circle and exotic plants “come to life at night.” You can have some native cuisine of the moon at Pandora’s Satu’li Canteen. Satu’li Canteen features food inspired by Pandora with whole grains, fresh fruits, and other delicious parts of the Na’vi harvest. As a fast casual restaurant, it’s a place where you can stock up on energy before battling the long wait times of the area.

Pandora also features Pongu Pongu Lounge, a drink stand with bioluminescent frozen cocktails, desserts and Na’vi-themed beers. You’ll probably want to make a pit stop here when the Florida heat starts bearing down on you, that’s for sure! Finally there’s a gift shop, Windtraders. Windtraders features merchandise inspired by Pandora, with plush, Na’vi artifacts, toys, art and more. Why? Because it’s Disney, that’s why, and everyone likes to remember their trip with a souvenir. After all, Pandora will be boosting some pretty intense wait times as it’s only a week old — why not show off to all of your friends that you were one of the first visitors?

Are You Brave Enough for The Scary Clown Motel?

Are you suffering from coulrophobia? If your answer is yes, you should probably skip this text. If you do not know that this word describes someone who has fear of clowns, read the story of The Clown Motel from Nevada.

Although the name of hotel may sound to you like a scary book by Stephen King or just another horror movie, this is a real place, located in Tonopah, Nevada. This former mining town has convenient inn for truckers, bikers and other travelers traveling long road. But, this is not a really good place for you if you fear clowns. The first ones are located outside the motel, and it is pretty easy to guess what is expecting you. Other clowns will be waiting you inside- in the lobby there is a human- sized clown in a chair, holding in his lap- yes, you guessed it- a clown. The front office also has numerous shelves filled with clowns (it is estimated that there are over 500 of them!), but that is not all. Every room in this motel is clown- themed, with portraits of famous clowns on doors and walls.

And, if this all is not scary enough, the location of Old Tonopah Cemetery will contribute to atmosphere of creepiness. It is located just beside the motel, giving this location a perfect spot for restless night.

Tonopah currently has population of about 2,500 people, but in the previous century, this was a perspective city with population of about 50,000, mainly miners. Actually, Tonopah was considered second richest strike of silver in Nevada. The cemetery was founded in 1901, and in following years, around 300 people were buried here. Their graves were marker with wooden crosses, and tin signs contain their names. Beside miners, among buried people there are town citizens who died in plague in 1902, and miners who died in 1911, in fire inside the mine. Today, there is a wooden fence surrounding the graveyard… and all of this can be seen from room of The Clown Motel.

Although you may expect stories about strange events, there are no evidences of such activities. In the online world, this motel is characterized as “eccentric, offering free Internet and mini breakfast”. Yet, many guests make request for staff to remove or cover clown paintings in rooms.

When The Clown Motel became famous on the Internet, people decided to go to Tonopah in order to spend the night there. The entire story brought to this location the title of “America’s scariest motel”. As expected, this motel attracts mainly young people expecting something supernatural and scary. However, Bob and Deborah Perchetti, owners of motel for over 20 years, state that this is a family oriented place, and that they are always pleased to receive feedback from their customers. Bob also said the title brought much publicity, and he believes that this is good for his business.

So, The Clown Motel might just be the perfect place for rest between Las Vegas and Reno…if you are brave enough to stay here!
