The Astronaut Smart Glove Was Field-Tested and It’s a Go!

The NASA Haughton-Mars Project (HMP) has successfully field-tested the astronaut smart glove. It’s deliberately designed for exploration on Mars, the Moon, and other destinations. The Smart Glove is a model for a human-machine interface or HMI, allowing astronauts to wirelessly operate robotic equipment such as drones through simple hand gestures.

Just last month, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration revealed their new Artemis Generation spacesuit, created to keep astronauts comfortable and safe on the Moon’s surface.

That said, SETI Institute claims spacesuits will still remain cumbersome, limiting the ability of astronauts to perform precise tasks. Pascal Lee, a planetary scientist with SETI and the Mars Institute, said a smart glove-equipped spacesuit might just be the solution.

Lee believes astronauts could easily control a number of robotic assets, making science and exploration on Mars, the Moon, and other destinations more effective and productive. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology’s startup Ntention, which is run by students, developed the smart glove that was tested in HMP’s 2019 field campaign.

Intuitive Human-machine Interfaces

Moina Medboe Tamuly, COO at Ntention, said their philosophy is to create technology that will allow human-machine interfacing intuitive and seamless. They are very excited to see their technology has potential applications in space exploration.

Lee suggested that after seeing the demonstration of the glove for space applications, it could be applied to an astronaut’s spacesuit. Lee added when he first saw the smart glove in action, he immediately thought of Arthur C. Clarke’s Third Law, saying any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

With Tamula as lead designer, the Ntention team accepted his challenge to create a prototype that uses a microcontroller to read subtle motions. These subtle motions are transferred to a mobile device to control a robot. The smart glove was interspersed into an existing Collins Aerospace spacesuit and then put through a series of field tests involving the teleoperation of commercial drones.

When astronauts are on Mars or the Moon, they want to fly drones for a number of reasons, including collecting a sample that is out of reach or must be isolated from contamination. Another reason could be to perform a search and rescue operation. Other purposes might include mapping, sampling, surveying, fetching, scouting, and inspecting.

Further assessment of the Astronaut Smart Glove for Mars and Moon exploration will continue along with applications to control other kinds of robotic equipment including robotic manipulators and rovers.

Russia Wants to 3D-Print ‘Large Scale Structures’ on the Moon

Journeys to the moon are undertaking more and more; before, it was a feat to simply set foot on the moon, but now that we’ve done that, new endeavors are being planned, especially by Russia.

A spokesperson for the country’s space corporation Roscosmos told Russian state-owned news agency TASS that they’re working on building a lunar base on the moon by 2040.

How will they do this? With 3D printing technologies that use lunar soil.

The lunar base is the final part of a three-stage program which begins with sending a spacecraft to orbit the moon, according to The Moscow Times. Stage two, expected to take place between 2025 and 2034, will be sending a manned mission to the moon for the purpose of beginning construction on the base.

Stage three, of course, will involve completing the lunar base, utilizing “additive technologies and local resources” for the “construction of large-scale structures,” said the Roscosmos spokesperson, who also noted that this third stage would include “furnishing scientific and industrial objects with equipment.”

They plan on creating structures with the capability of supporting astronaut life on the moon, as well.

3D- Printed Spare Parts

In the past, Dmitry Rogozin, the Director-General of Roscosmos, told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti that the 3D printing will be used to create repair equipment as well as new parts for the technology to reduce the need for resupply missions.

The Russian aerospace company NPO Lavochkin also said that the 3D printing technology would use solar energy as its power source and moon dust as its resource for creating objects.

“We’re talking about creating a long-term base, not constantly manned, but visitable,” Rogozin told RIA Novosti in November of 2018. Therefore, Roscosmos plans to have “avatars” on the lunar base controlled by humans on Earth.

NASA also has plans in mind for creating a permanent presence on the moon – just one of the steps towards finally reaching Mars – and plans to begin sustainable lunar surface missions before 2030, conducted from NASA’s lunar “Gateway,” a small spaceship meant to hold both astronauts and science experiments while it orbits the moon.

Next on NASA’s agenda, however, is getting the first woman on the moon, and they plan to accomplish this mission, called “Artemis,” by 2024. Many challenges need yet to be overcome to make it possible for people to be on the moon for any extended amount of time, however, so the next several years are full of research, experiments, and trials.

Jet Skier’s Unbelievably Skillful Prank

A cyclist making his way along a country road stopped for a drink and a little rest on a bridge overlooking a large river below. It was no coincidence that Dave stopped here while out pedaling.

He’s been cycling this road for years and he knows that the bridge over the Otonabee River is an excellent place to pause and look out over the water. There is a beach and conservation area in sight of the bridge and there are often boats, Seadoos, and other interesting things to look at for a few minutes.

Dave doesn’t go far without his GoPro camera and when he saw that there were two jet skiers zipping around on their machines, he started to film them. One of them was hopping his jet ski over waves, submerging it, and doing various tricks.

He was obviously very skilled and very athletic, but the trick he was about to pull was something Dave didn’t even think was possible.

Without seeming to look up at the bridge, the jet skier made it appear that he wasn’t even aware that he was being watched. He drove under the bridge, turned and came back.

He slowed down exactly under Dave and whipped around onto the front of the jet ski with impressive speed and agility. Dave was wondering if the jet skier was showing off, or performing a trick for the benefit of the camera.

He didn’t realize that this was about to be an incredible prank that would knock his glasses off, knock his bike over, and leave him completely drenched.

How it’s done

By sitting on the nose of the jet ski, the skier was able to tilt the back end, including the jet, right out of the water. He pressed the throttle and sent a jet of water upwards that was as powerful as a fire hose.

With unbelievable precision, he blasted Dave with hundreds of gallons of water. The jet hit Dave so hard that his bicycle was knocked over and his sunglasses were washed off his face onto the ground.

Dave was soaked from his head to his feet and so was the entire bridge around him.

Luckily, this was a hot day and the soaking was refreshing. But even if it hadn’t been so hot, there’s no way you could help but applaud such a brilliant and well executed prank. Dave laughed in disbelief as the jet skier rode away to meet his friends and share a laugh about what he had just done. Who would ever expect to be soaked from below when you are high above on a bridge?

Dave was so impressed with this display of skill that he cycled down to the park below and shook the jet skier’s hand. They both shared a laugh over what had just happened and the fact that it was all caught on camera.

The jet skier’s name is Brian and if you’re ever standing on a bridge over a river, you better hope he’s not down below on his jet ski. This seems like something Brian has done many times and it’s not likely he’d pass up a chance to do it again.

A cyclist making his way along a country road stopped for a drink and a little rest on a bridge overlooking a large river below. It was no...

Children Have Water Fight With Vancouver Police for Charity

Rumble / Everyday Heroes – Vancouver British Columbia, Canada has one very special day each year. Variety-The Children’s Charity puts on an amazing fundraiser. This day includes some pirate-themed fun for everyone involved.

Being right on the Pacific Coast there are many boating enthusiasts around the Vancouver area and this special day brings out huge numbers of volunteers. Boat owners volunteer their time and boats to give these children that would normally not be able to enjoy boating due to financial, mobility or other challenges a day of pirate-themed fun in Vancouver.

On June 9, 2018, over 500 kids with special needs participated in the annual Boat for Hope fundraiser hosted by Variety – The Children’s Charity and outboard motor company Evinrude.

Brent who did most of the video recording this day had the opportunity to be involved as a “good“ pirate aboard his buddy GOLDTOOTH’s family yacht. Everyone boarded at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club near downtown Vancouver.

Goldtooth’s parents Harvey and Maggy have been involved with and donating the use of their boat for this incredible event for more than 20 years. Goldtooth aka Andy is also on the board of directors of the Boat for Hope. Goldtooth also makes appearances on television during the TV telethon which shows his great commitment to these kids year after year.

After getting all the kids and family on board, Goldtooth gave his boating safety speech and highlighted this was going to be FUN! “Protect my treasure“ he stated and the crew of pirates was given their ammunition of water guns and water buckets.

Brent and his wife Elsa made sure the pirate’s water guns were always full so they could fend off the bad pirates with their best efforts. Fending off the Vancouver Police Force, Coast Guard and Search & Rescue made for a great effort by the good pirates.

Boat for Hope had already raised over $40,000 this year at the time of the event, by holding fundraising events across the province. Boat for Hope not only creates an incredible and interactive experience for children with special needs but also raises funds to provide health care support directly to children throughout British Columbia.

Brent and Elsa mentioned, “ this day was so much fun, we surely hope to be back next year”. What an amazing and fun event for everyone, not just the kids!

Instagrammer Turns Sashimi into Jaw-Dropping Works of Art

You may have memories as a child of your mother telling you, “Don’t play with your food!” Well, you might want to share mikyoui00’s Instagram profile with her to show her just what you can do if you make playing with your food a regular practice.

“See, Mom, maybe I could have had over 33,000 followers like mikyoui00 does if only I had been allowed to fool around a bit with what’s on my plate!”

You’ve Never Seen Sliced Fish Like This

Well, next time you’re feeling up to a fancy restaurant, maybe just light a few candles and try replicating one of mikyoui00’s intricate designs instead. He has taken the art of cooking to a whole different level with how he uses sashimi, a Japanese delicacy of sliced raw fish or meat.

He doesn’t just make neat designs; he creates fantastic creatures, sets beautiful scenes. He forms angelic beings, positions rock stars with guitars, and sets a snowboarder on a ride down a mountain.

How It All Started

What’s incredible is that mikyoui00 isn’t a famous chef; in fact, he’s not a chef by profession at all. He simply loves to cook at home – and is great at it, too! – and has a particular flair for aesthetics. He began by using these fun, artistic techniques to teach his son how to make sashimi and would post each one on Instagram with the hashtag #SashimiArt.

My job has nothing to do with art or design. I really started working with fish during the summer of last year,” mikyoui00 told Nippon. “I wanted to teach my son about how to slice and prepare sashimi, and over the course of teaching him, I ended up really getting into it myself.”

What Goes Into Sashimi Art

Now, preparing sashimi isn’t as simple as just slicing up some meat or fish; it involves several different techniques, like the Sugata-zukuri cut, for instance, which involves slices that are arranged and designed within the fish, or usu-zukuri slices, where it’s sliced so thin that they’re almost translucent. You’ll find these and many other techniques in mikyoui00’s posts.

Other Instagrammers attempt to do similarly with their sashimi, but their floral spreads or shades of colors are nothing compared to mikyou000’s actual works of art. In fact, if they would keep from going bad, you could almost begin framing them and putting them in museums! You can see his creations for yourself on his Instagram page.

Technology Meets the Workplace

Technology is, in the near future, going to have a huge impact on the way people work. According to experts, AI bosses and robotic co-workers are going to make the workplace nearly unrecognizable.

Robotics and AI may seem a dream come true but consider the implications of this. Your AI boss will never need to take a break or any days off. In fact, your new AI boss will be fully aware of all the work you have…or have not…completed.  Micromanaging to the extreme, anyone?

Virtual Reality Steps up to the Plate

Virtual Reality has the potential to change and augment all of your daily visual activities. Augmentation Virtual Reality will have a far greater effect on the workplace than full Virtual Reality. Augmentation Virtual Reality will allow you to add data to things already happening around you in the workplace.

Construction workers may be the first to enjoy the benefits of VR. They will use this technology to see specifications and tech data involving the materials they are using on site. They will be able to visualize where to place the materials on the build and every direction involving the building project.

Medicine will most likely be another field to benefit from VR. Surgeons, for instance, would be able to use VR augmentation goggles in many different ways.

Work from Home Tech

Remote work is catching on, expanding every year. Millions are currently contracted by companies all across the globe. Technology means that internet speeds will continue to increase. Work that was never able to be done remotely before will now become possible.

Current tech has allowed for people to share huge files with high-speed cable and high-speed fiber connections, something that a few years ago was considered impossible.

The Institute for the Future’s Future 50 program believes that virtual reality will add to the ability to perform more work remotely. As director Dylan Hendricks explains, “This is becoming much more of a practical infrastructure than people realize. You can interact with people very far away and share data.”

Want more versatility in your remote work life? Holographic conferencing and meetings may mean that workers never need to leave the house.

 AI Bosses will Work 24/7

AI bosses may be more reliable and incapable of playing favorites at work, but they will also be far more aware of your work than their human counterparts. AI bosses are incapable of emotion, and while on one hand, this means you will never be lectured for poor work, it also means that your new AI boss cannot sympathize with you for any extenuating circumstances that affected your work.

Your new AI boss will be keeping continuous tabs on your work quality, the hours that you have worked, and many other factors that some employees can hide if needed.

It’s not an entirely new concept. In Japan, an ad agency known as the McCann Workgroup uses an AI robot as a creative director. While the team had to manually find effective ad strategies in the past, the AI director can “understand” what makes a good marketing strategy.

The AI director gives suggestions to improve ad campaigns and come up with more effective ads.  Per the McCann Workgroup, this AI creative director is an overall winning solution for the team.

Technology is, in the near future, going to have a huge impact on the way people work. According to experts, AI bosses and robotic co-workers are going to make the...

Bizarre Spinning Ice Disk In Middle Of City

Along the banks of Maine’s Presumpscot River, surprised spectators snapped pictures of a spinning circle of ice. The strange phenomenon is being called the Westbrook Ice Disk.

The spinning ice disk is estimated to measure just over 90 meters in diameter, and reminds the residents of Westbrook, Maine of a floating moon.  Estimated at just past 90 meters in diameter, officials aren’t entirely sure exactly when the disk formed, but based on reports from onlookers, it seems to have formed overnight or during the wee morning hours of Monday, January 14.

The disk has been compared to everything from the moon, on the city’s social media pages, to alien calling cards.  Doug Bertlesman explained to the Portland Press, “It kind of looks like a crop circle.  It’s pretty wild to look at.”

Slow Whirlpool

This isn’t the first spinning ice disk to be seen in Maine, and the phenomenon happens more frequently than you’d think.  It happens when a block of ice is swept along a flowing river, bashing up against the banks as it is swirled in the current.  This area of the Presumpscot River has a circular current, which results in a naturally forming whirlpool.

According to drone footage, the disk was spinning very slowly in a counter clockwise direction.  The Press Herald interviewed some of the onlookers.  Rob Mitchell, Westbrook resident, claims that several ducks had settled on the spinning disk, calling it a “big duck-go-round.”

As can be imagined, social media lit up with the phenomenon.  Comments have been humorous: “The aliens have stationed a large rotating disk of ice in the middle of the Presumpscot River in Westbrook, Maine.”

Another comment draws a startling conclusion: “Circles and ice? Do we really have to spell it out for you? Mother Nature is a hockey fan.”

The residents of Westbrook, Maine had good reason to predict the end of the world; the phenomenon came in the same week that the moon turned blood red in a “super blood wolf moon” alongside a lunar eclipse.

Must See: Viral Dramatic Dog Photos

Known for their ability to see things outside of the box, photographers tend to be among the most creative people around. They often see an opportunity to create a very cool picture and take it with both hands. One photographer who has found herself going viral recently, though, is that of Jess Bell.

The Canadian has been around for three years and often gets rave reviews for her work, with her specialty being artistic imagery involving animals.

Desiring to make a big impact with her next shoot, though, Bell decided to get some dogs together that belonged to her friends. The idea was to get the dogs in natural, normal poses – such as catching a Frisbee.

Before they would go for the big jump, though, she would cover the dog with colorful powder and watch as art became nature. The results are pretty incredible, which you can see for yourself below.

The images are pretty incredible, showing just how easy it is to blend together nature with some added color and zest. By picking colors which would immediately create a positive contrast with the dog itself, each shot would show the dogs standing out amid the chromatic explosion of dust all around them.

Jess, a loving dog owner and trainer, decided to go for this approach as it would offer something totally different. It also helped to show just how unique dogs can be: when we see a couple of dogs jumping, we just see two dogs. With the help of this photo shoot, we can see far more than that: we get to see the unique shape and form of each of the dogs come to life in stunning fashion.

An Explosion Of Color

Given her love of dogs and her ability to train them so well, you can rest assured that these creative displays would never hurt or risk the health of the dogs in any way, shape or form.

By using non-toxic color sets, and with ample ventilation, each shot would only produce a stunning image, with no health risk or challenge put to the dogs – and also ensuring that the dogs would never inhale the powder by ensuring it stayed clear of their airwaves.

Part of the inspiration for this shot came from Andrea Zachrau, a specialist in horse photography who used a similar approach to make horses stand out in stunning style. After taking a look at her photos, it’s easy to see where the inspiration would have come from for Jess.

However, she made her shot well and truly her own, with some pretty spectacular results coming along the way. Take a look yourself; if you are a photographer, you might get some pretty outstanding inspiration!

Airpod Earrings – So You Won’t Lose Them

A person who was sick of losing Airpods cleverly turned them into earrings  – which are now selling online.

Gabrielle Reilly, a 22 years old genderqueer person from Virginia, took to Twitter on Jan 26 to share a video in which she showed off her new earring. Gabriella modeled her new invention  –  earrings fixed to the end of her apple Airpods to keep them from falling off.

She displayed the effectiveness of her latest invention in a short video where she moved her head back and forth with the earrings before fixing the Airpods in her ear. And as you’d expect, her Airpods didn’t fall off.

She wrote on Twitter: “I made airpod earrings lmaoooo. I didnt want to post this till I had better pics but whatever here it is.” Ahe added – “I’m gonna refine the design and release pics so y’all can custom order them from me.”

Great Web Response

Gabrielle’s tweet made a lot of waves, which is a general indication that is was a welcome invention. And at the time of publication (Jan 30), her tweet had amassed about 199,000 likes and 46,000 retweets.

Gabrielle said: “My reaction to all the attention is mostly surprise. I was not expecting any of this at all. But it’s super cool seeing how other people are reacting and I’m very grateful for all the support.”

She explained the motivation behind her new hack earrings which she referred to as “airrings.” Gabrielle said: “I absolutely refuse to lose them. My cat ate through two pairs of Beats Bluetooth earphones, and all my other earphones.

So I got the AirPods because there was no wire for her to chew but I still needed something to connect them. So I made earrings. I also have a chain necklace that I used to connect them. It took me maybe around an hour to make the earrings because I had to custom-make the piece that connects the AirPods to the earrings.”

She also made sure one could still separate the Airpods from the earrings in case of charging.

At first, I had a necklace chain that I attached the pods to. Because of my tragus earring, earbuds tend to fall out. So I was super scared about that. Then I thought, why not make earrings?” Gabrielle’s invention stirred a lot of attention, and it wasn’t long before she got a shopify page set up for her business. Interested persons can now buy the ‘airrings’ for $20.

Everything from the type of earrings to the material it is made of, and the length is fully customizable by customers. The product description for the ‘airings’ reads:

“This is a custom order for your AirPod earrings! This is a very limited option because I won’t be able to keep up and keep track of orders by myself. Airings are available for pre-order after they sell out. Please give 2-3 weeks for pre-orders. This is now a pre-order. Anything ordered after 1/29/19 3am is on pre-order.

Default design is without the cross, just the chain. If you don’t fill out the custom form I will give you the default design that is a silver fish hook with a 1.5″ chain. I can also do more customisation on the earrings, i.e. charms, more chains, type of chain, etc. Just e-mail me and we can work out exactly what I can and cannot do.”

I believe that this would in vogue before you know it, so you had better get the orders rolling in.

Unusual Spots To Up Your Insta Game

These days, it has become a regular thing to take photos close to the Eiffel tower, the Hollywood sign, or even the Golden Gate Bridge. And if you’re one that likes to stand out, here are three classic locations to grow your Instagram audience.

Atlanta’s Edgewood Avenue

Edgewood Avenue, located in downtown Atlanta is a perfect blend of culture and creativity that puts Atlanta in a class of its own. With notable places like Killer Mike’s barbershop which they call The SWAG Shop, this area clearly separates itself.

Also, there are several concert venues on the avenue, so from the great lighting and crowds, you can take great pictures while listening to your favorite artists play. Another prominent point on the street is a quirky ping-pong bar which was established by an ex-nun. For real! You should check it out.

Boston’s Acorn Street

A trip to Acorn Street is nothing different from going back in time to colonial America. Though this cobblestone street is not so wide, it boasts an amazing scenic view which resulted from the historic brick homes on both sides. There is no place for modern architecture in this street, as every home still wears a complete look of ancient but lovely architecture.

Several flower pots sit in front of the homes, with tiny greenery just enough to give your picture perfect background. Acorn Street is situated in the middle of Beacon Hill, a well-known Boston neighborhood that was once home to abolitionists several hundreds of years ago.

Philadelphia’s Fountain Street Steps

Located in the middle of Fairmont Park, the Fountain Street Steps enjoys a ravishing decoration with a pretty mosaic pattern. The Street Steps had been there from time, but it just received a nice touch-up from locals when graffiti and non-native plants were about to outshine the native plants.

At the end of the steps is a beautiful fountain, with native trees all around the area. The Fountain Street Steps is not only amazing for how it looks but because of the story behind it. The Steps are representations of a joint community effort despite the troubles that it faced.

The caption of your picture on these steps would be quite educative and engaging to your followers.

Now that you know these locations, make a move to get to these points and give your Instagram followers that much-needed engagement!

This amazing ship was scheduled to be delivered in 201,3, and is capable of delivering an impressive speed of 20 knots despite being a dead weight of a whopping 187,624 tons.

It’s a huge ship, but it’s not the biggest on this latest – despite managing to reach a whopping 396m in size.

Just a touch more impressive in terms of size is the stunning Emma Maersk. This gigantic cruise ship is among the most popular on the planet, and has long stood the test of time as a hugely impressive E-class ship. It’s been around for over a decade, having been manufactured in 2006. Since then, it has become a very impressive part of the world of nautical development, with it at one stage being the largest ship ever created. Indeed, it was able to carry as many as 11,000 units at 20ft in size – each!

Esso Atlantic

At a whopping 406m in size, the Esso Atlantic is one of the leaders on this important list of stunning boats. Despite launching more than 40 years ago, in 1977, it was a hugely impressive cruise ship for the era.

Indeed, its impressive dead weight of 516,891 tons becomes even more impressive when you consider that it can hit top speeds of a whopping 15.6 knots. It’s a massive oil transfer tanker that has served as one of the most valuable ships to sail the seas for many a year.

Seawise Giant

The stunning Seawise Giant is, at 458m in length, the second largest ship that we could find. This amazing cruise ship was later known by other names like Knock Nevis and Mont, was a stunning ULCC supertanker. It held the distinction of having the greatest deadweight tonnage ever seen, with a whopping 657,019 tons making it the heaviest ship of any kind ever built at the time.

Given it could hit speeds of 16 knots, though, you would never know!

Prelude FLNG

This is the largest ship we could find still cutting around in 2018. With over 600,000 tons of displacement and with over 260,000 tons of steel, this is a hugely impressive model aircraft. Ships like this often stand out as they produce a stunning platform for everything from liquefied natural gas platforms to working offshore.

At 488m in length, you can be almost certain that this stunning ship is one of the largest ever to be produced.

‘1 Alcoholic Bev’ – The Meme That Will Break the Internet

Do you remember when Kim Kardashian starred on the front cover of that magazine, promising to ‘break the internet’?

Well, it turns out that we might have something on our hands so irritatingly viral that it might break the whole thing. It’s the ‘1 Alcoholic Bev’ meme, and it’s gone so far, so wide and so fast it’s very unlikely you haven’t seen it yet. Anyway, if you are somehow free of its clutches, then you’ll want to know what it is – right?

Essentially… see the mate in your group who cannot handle their alcohol? That after a single pint/bottle/can/whatever, they are absolutely mashed?

Well, the 1 Alcoholic Bev meme was made in celebration of their wonderful ability to get lashed for so little. It’s also a celebration of the fact that these people become extremely loose with their words afterward, often to comical effect.

This meme has exploded, celebrating every one of the times we’ve all had a heart to heart with a complete stranger, or nearly had a fight with a random person over a football opinion. Sometimes, all it takes is one drink to turn you into a complete clown – and the 1 Alcoholic Bev meme is here to celebrate that ridiculous transformation we all take.

There’s a rather comical tweet series we came across that perfectly surmises the 1 Alcoholic Bev meme for those who have somehow managed to miss it.

How the 1 Alcoholic Bev usually works

So, these are all fine examples of a good night out. You are out and about with the sensible clothes on and the complete intention of having a simple night. No messing around. One drink in, though, you are on the table – the inhibitions are gone. You are dancing on the table, and the mild mannered couple across from you are looking partially intrigued, partially horrified.

Stumbling out the door afterward, it’s straight for a fantastic bite to eat – the smell just wafts right up your nose. You would eat out of a bin if someone told you it was the reason for the aroma you now want to marry. All it takes is that one drink to turn that donor kebab you nearly threw up thinking about earlier into the stuff of dreams.

As you trapeze on home, you think of sitting in bed. Cold. Alone. You tell yourself you won’t do it, but you send the text anyway – to him/her. You do it because you know you must, even though you know both of you will despise the approach tomorrow. But you do it anyway, as all it takes is one drink to convince you that – actually – you can make things work.

So, what has the worst been for you after a single alcoholic beverage? Try and avoid counting the times when you would start your drinking with something of supreme power, like Absinthe. Try and think of when all it took was a Becks, a simple Becks, to make you transform into the ‘real you’ that you hide in sobriety?

Yummy: Most Expensive Meals In The World

When we live in a world of haves and have-nots, stories like this can always feel a bit grim. You know, stories about luxurious foods that cost more than the average person earns in a month. It’s a dreadful state of affairs and only helps to perpetuate the idea that those with all the money don’t have a clue how to spend it properly. Anyway, I digress. You are here because you want to read about quality food items.

Well, the world knows how to price its luxury foods. Want some examples? Here are a few grotesquely priced delights.

Vanilla Flower

I know what you are thinking – but you have lots of vanilla ice cream in the freezer. At around $4,000 per pound, vanilla costs a huge amount. It only blooms for a few hours in a year, and does not leave much by way of pollination.

Vanilla itself is a very expensive product – the idea that you can get it so easily is quite a surprise given the cost of it per pound in its purest form.

Almas Caviar

A classic of the ‘it cost how much!?’ food world, Almas caviar is horrendously expensive. You would be paying as much as $25,000 for this kind of caviar. It’s needle in a haystack stuff to find it, even in its native Iran. The fact it comes in a 24-karat gold tin lets you know just how ridiculous the world has gone when it comes to how we spend.

White Truffles

At not far off seven grand for a kilogram of white truffles, these outrageous foods are one of the most expensive in the world. They are used in the highest quality of fishes, and only tiny amounts will be used such is their rarity, cost and, most importantly, quality.

It’s one of those foods that, you may be surprised to know, I have never tried. Apparently, though, it’s dynamite with scrambled eggs. It looks rancid, but apparently tastes like royalty.

Bluefin Tuna

Another very popular dish but madly priced is that of the Bluefin tuna. At close to $4,000 for a single pound of it, Bluefin is a very expensive product. It gets used in a lot of top meals and tends to be a very expensive add-on if you were to want it used in your food.

However, given the Bluefin tuna is a species getting close to extinction as it stands, it’s not just an expensive dish to eat – it’s an ethical hazard, too.

Densuke Watermelon

One of the most expensive items that we could find, though, is the Japanese Densuke watermelon. This item sold for over $6,000 at an auction in Japan, and became a huge talking point. This black watermelon isn’t rotten or anything like that – it’s a unique kind of Japanese fruit.

It might seem a bit nuts, but the Densuke watermelon is among the most expensive dishes that you could ever eat.

Foie Gras

Out of all the items we looked into, though, we found that Foie Gras – duck/goose liver – was among the most expensive. It’s extremely nice apparently, but it’s going to cost you a hell of a lot to eat if you want to try it out. Prices depend on where you go, but a 2lb Foie Gras would cost you around $150.

That might not sound like much considering the above prices, but keep in mind it’s a meal, not an ingredient like some of the above.

In a world where so many starve, it’s pretty wild that we have food that can cost as much as this, right?
