The Celebrities Turning 50 In 2018

Turning 50 is one of life’s biggest milestones. Finally, you’re closer to 100 than you are to0. At this age, many are already parents, some are grandparents, while others have focused to put all their effort into their careers instead. For celebrities, however, age is only a number with many stars sparkling as brightly as they ever have before.

It doesn’t matter what the reason is because frankly, we like our favorite stars to grow old with us regardless of how they choose to preserve (or enhance) their renown looks.

2018 was a year many of our favorite celebrities entered the 50s. From the silver screen to the small screen, icons of the 80s, 90s, 2000s and today all reached the milestone with several surprising entries on this list. With 2019 just around the corner, let us look at the rich and famous who celebrated the big 5-0 this year.

Take for example, Naomi Watts and Will Smith.

You would never know she's 50, would you? And you'd be more surprised to know that she'll be taking part in the next Game Of Thrones new project - The prequel series. It's still a secret so no one knows anything about it.

English actress Naomi Watts turned 50 on 28 September and celebrated the milestone by riding a camel in the Sahara Desert in Morocco. She captioned a photo of the experience, “A milestone and extraordinary moment. So grateful for all my friends and family who shared this experience with me. Memories forever. And thank you to everyone for all my birthday wishes. Huge gratitude... truly overwhelming week.”

The actress began her acting career in Australian films and television series, before moving to the United States where she starred in a series of lesser known films. She came to attention after being cast in the lead role in the 2001 film Mulholland Drive.

The actress has gone onto star in several successful films since, such as The Ring, 21 Grams, I Heart Huckabees, King Kong, Eastern Promises, The International, Fair Game, J. Edgar, and The Impossible.

Will Smith

Will Smith was “getting jiggy with it” on September 25 when he celebrated turning 50-years-old. The actor marked the occasion by bungee jumping from a helicopter in Arizona’s Grand Canyon. The actor first rose to fame as the titular character on the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from 1990 to 1996.

The actor then found success on the big screen becoming the only actor to have eight consecutive films gross $100 million at the U.S. box office as well as eleven consecutive films gross $150 million internationally. He has been named as the most bankable star by Forbes.

Some of Smith’s best known films include Bad Boys, Independence Day, Men in Black, Wild Wild West, Ali, Hitch, The Pursuit of Happyness, I Am Legend, and Seven Pounds. The actor will star as Genie in the upcoming 2019 film, Aladdin.

Jim Caviezel

Jim Caviezel, best-known for playing Jesus Christ in The Passion of the Christ, turned 50 on 26 September. Caviezel has been part of several successful films such as The Thin Red Line, Frequency, Pay It Forward, High Crimes, Angel Eyes, The Count of Monte Cristo, Déjà Vu, Escape Plan, When the Game Stands Tall, and Paul, Apostle of Christ.

Caviezel also starred as John Reese on the science-fiction crime drama series Person of Interest from 2011 to 2016. Caviezel will reprise his role as Jesus Christ in the Passion of the Christ sequel "The Resurrection of the Christ" set for a 2020 release.

Hugh Jackman

The jacked-up Australian actor doesn’t look a day above forty even into his 50s and remains eye-candy to women the world over despite being married to wife of over two decades, Deborra-Lee Furness, since 1996.

The actor, singer and producer turned 50 on 12 October and celebrated it by poking fun of himself pictured napping next to his pooch. He captioned the photo on his social media page, “When people tell you 'you don't look 50' part of you believes it ... until you see yourself sleeping.”

The actor is best-known for portraying Wolverine in the X-Men film series as well as starring in other successful films such as Kate & Leopold, Van Helsing, The Prestige, Australia, Les Misérables, Prisoners, and The Greatest Showman.

Kylie Minogue

Recognized as Australia’s highest-selling artists of all time, singer and actress Kylie Minogue began her entertainment career on the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She soon ventured into music where she has enjoyed a long and successful career.

Nicknamed the “Princess of Pop” she has sold over 80 million records worldwide. The entertainer turned 50 on 28 May and celebrated the occasion in a star-studded birthday bash at London’s Chiltern Firehouse. Minogue has acted in films such as Street Fighter, Moulin Rouge!, and San Andreas, as well as featured as a coach and mentor on The Voice UK and as a judge The X Factor UK.

Patrick Dempsey

Best known for his role as neurosurgeon Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd in Grey's Anatomy, actor Patrick Dempsey celebrated 50 years on 13 January. He found early success in his career after starring in several films in the 1980s and 1990s such as Can’t Buy Me Love, Loverboy, Outbreak, before landing a lead role in Sweet Home Alabama in 2002.

He then starred in Enchanted, Made of Honor, Valentine’s Day, Flypaper, Freedom Writers, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and Bridget Jones's Baby, all of which were successful at the box office.

The actor maintains a sports car and vintage car collection and enjoys auto racing. In fact, he has stated that he would “walk away” from acting if he could to dedicate himself full-time to motorsports.

Celine Dion

Canadian singer Celine Dion celebrated 50 years on 30 March at home with her three children after cancelling a concert which was scheduled for the very same evening in preparation for ear surgery. The “My Heart Will Go On” singer shot to fame after winning the 1982 Yamaha World Popular Song Festival and the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest.

Some of her other hits include “The Power of Love”, “Think Twice”, “Because You Loved Me”, “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now”, and “I’m Your Angel”. On getting older, Dion stated,  “There's no such thing is aging, but maturing and knowledge. It's beautiful, I call that beauty."

The singer was mentored by her manager, René Angélil, who mortgaged his house in order to produce Dion’s first album. The singer later married Angélil, twenty-six years her senior, in 1994. Initially the relationship was kept a secret due to fear of a public relations backlash, however, the public ended up embracing the couple with their wedding being broadcast live on Canadian television. Sadly, Angélil passed away in 2016 aged 73-years-old.

Daniel Craig

The James Bond film series star, Daniel Craig notched 50 years on 2 March. The actor welcomed a baby daughter with wife  and fellow actress Rachel Weisz only a few months prior in August. Craig also has a child from a previous relationship as does Weisz. Both of whom were present at the couple’s 22 June 2011 wedding.

Apart from starring as 007 in four films, Craig has also appeared in other successful films such as Elizabeth, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Road to Perdition, Layer Cake, Munich, The Golden Compass, Defiance, Cowboys & Aliens, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Logan Lucky.

Gillian Anderson

Gillian Anderson blew out 50 candles on 9 August. Best known for her role as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the long-running series The X-Files, she has acted in film, television and stage throughout her career being the recipient of a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The actress has also published a novel trilogy which she co-wrote titled The Earthend Saga as well as writing the self-help guidebook WE: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere.

Owen Wilson

Actor, producer, comedian, and screenwriter Owen Wilson snuffed out 50 candles on 18 November. A member of the “Frat Pack”, Wilson has been part of some of the highest-grossing comedy films since the mid-90s.

The actor has a long collaboration with director, writer, and producer Wes Anderson having been part of several of his films as an actor or writer such as Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and She's Funny That Way among others.

Parker Posey

Indie actress Parker Posey remains best known for her role in the cult film Dazed and Confused. She has been labeled “Queen of the Indies” due to her involvement in predominantly independent films. She has described herself as “an aging hipster”.

The actress celebrated 50 years on 8 November and has acted in over 100 films. Her best-known mainstream credits include: You've Got Mail, Scream 3, Josie and the Pussycats, Personal Velocity, The Sweetest Thing, Blade: Trinity, Superman Returns, Fay Grim, Broken English, The Eye, Spring Breakdown, Irrational Man, and Café Society.

Kenny Chesney

Country legend Kenny Chesney celebrated 50 years on 26 March an released his 17th studio album “Songs for the Saints” four months later. The singer has recorded 20 albums to date, 14 of which have reached Gold status. He has also produced over 40 Top 10 singles on the US Country Music chart, with 29 number ones.

Chesney remains one of the most popular touring acts in country music and has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Chesney was previously married actress Renée Zellweger in May 2005 which was annulled only four months later.

Helena Christensen

Danish model and photographer Helena Christensen will celebrate 50 years on Christmas Day this year. The former Victoria’s Secret model and beauty queen has also served as the creative director for Nylon magazine. Throughout her career, Christensen has appeared in over 650 magazine covers over the years including Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and W.

Anthony Michael Hall

Actor, comedian, film producer, and director Anthony Michael Hall turned 50 on 14 April. He is famous for starring in several teen-oriented films in the 1980s such as Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Weird Science. Hall’s latest acting credit was as Principal Featherhead in Riverdale.

Molly Ringwald

Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink star Molly Ringwald blew out 50 candles on 18 February 2018. Regarding the milestone, the actress said, “I feel like I just know a lot more. You feel more confident that you have a little bit of life experience to back up what you say. I'm really happy with where I am at in my life.”

Ringwald remains known as a teen icon of the 80s and was part of the “Brat Pack”. She was ranked number 1 on VH1’s list of 100 Greatest Teen Stars. Currently, the actress plays Mary Andrews on the teenage television drama series Riverdale.

Terry Crews

Actor, comedian, artist, and former NFL star Terry Crews celebrated 50 years on July 30. The star took to Instagram to share a photo of himself during a workout on his birthday with the caption, “THIS IS 50! Thank you world for all the wonderful birthday wishes... MY BEST DAYS ARE STILL AHEAD OF ME! (I'm so serious because I've got to finish this workout.”

Crews’ acting credits include roles on television as Julius Rock on the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris, Nick Kingston-Persons in the sitcom Are We There Yet?, as well as film roles in Friday After Next, White Chicks, Idiocracy, and the Expendables film series. Currently, he stars as NYPD Sergeant Terry Jeffords in the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Jane Krakowski

Actress and singer Jane Krakowski knocked entered the 50s on 11 October. She is best known for roles as Cousin Vicki in National Lampoon's Vacation, and Jenna Maroney in the comedy series 30 Rock. Krakowski also had roles as Elaine Vassal on Ally McBeal and Jacqueline White in the comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Cuba Gooding Jr.

Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. hit the big 5-0 on 2 January. The actor shot to fame after starring as Tre Styles in Boyz n the Hood, after which he appeared in A Few Good Men, Outbreak, and Jerry Maguire for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Recently, the actor has focused on television roles, most notably playing O. J. Simpson in American Crime Story: The People v. O. J. Simpson, as well as various roles on American Horror Story: Roanoke.

Ashley Judd

Ashley Judd celebrated her 50th birthday on 19 April by riding a horse along the beach. She captioned the accompanying video which she shared on Facebook with the words, “50th birthday celebrations have begun, with the very special beach ride on the North Sea.”

A daughter in a family of successful performing artists, she is known for her roles in films such as A Time to Kill, Kiss the Girls, Double Jeopardy, Where the Heart Is, High Crimes, the Dolphin Tale series, and the Divergent film series.

Billy Crudup

Actor Billy Crudup joined the 50s club on 8 July which he celebrated while on vacation in Europe with his girlfriend Naomi Watts. His acting credits include the series Gypsy, Almost Famous, Big Fish, Mission: Impossible III, Watchmen, Public Enemies, Spotlight, and Alien: Covenant. He has also acted on stage and has won a Tony Award for his role in The Coast of Utopia in 2007.

Lucy Liu

Actress and director Lucy Liu rose to attention for her role as the vicious and ill-mannered Ling Woo in the television series Ally McBeal. The actress turned 50 on 2 December and currently stars as Joan Watson in the Sherlock Holmes-inspired series Elementary.

Liu’s best-known roles are as Alex Munday in Charlie’s Angels, O-Ren Ishii in Kill Bill, Pearl in Payback, Kitty Baxter in Chicago, and voicing Master Viper in the Kung Fu Panda film series.

Eagle-Eye Cherry

Swedish musician Eagle-Eye Cherry, best known for his single “Save Tonight turned 50 on 7 May. The son of jazz artist Don Cherry, he comes from a musical family with most of his siblings becoming professional musicians themselves. The singer’s other songs include "Falling in Love Again", "Are You Still Having Fun", "Long Way Around", "Feels So Right", "Skull Tattoo" and "Don't Give Up".

Lisa Marie Presley

The daughter of the “King of Rock and Roll” and the ex-wife of the “King of Pop”, Lisa Marie Presley entered the 50s on 1 February. The next day she celebrated with her family and friends such as Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins. A musician herself, she has released three albums to date.

Tony Hawk

Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk turned 50-years-old on 12 May and celebrated the milestone by releasing a video of himself performing 50 tricks he created. He says in the video, “As I turn 50, I thought it would be fun to try to revisit some of the tricks I created. I realized very quickly that they're not as easy as they used to be. Some of these, this will be the last time I do them, but that's okay, we had a good run.”

Hawke has made a number of cameo appearances in films and television shows over the years, either as himself or as a skateboarding character.

Yasmine Bleeth

Baywatch star Yasmine Bleeth celebrated her 50thbirthday on 14 June. The actress is also known for her role as LeeAnn Demerest on the soap opera One Life to Live, Inspector Caitlin Cross on Nash Bridges, and Heather Lane-Williams on Titans. She has also had roles in films such as BASEketball, Heaven or Vegas, Coming Soon, and Undercover Angel.

Marc Anthony

Tropical salsa singer Marc Anthony blew out 50 candles on 16 September. The Grammy Award-winning singer celebrated his milestone by watching his ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez’s Las Vegas residency show, with his current girlfriend Raffaella Modugno. Anthony is the top selling tropical salsa artist of all time with over 12 million albums sold worldwide.

Rachael Ray

Celebrity chef and television personality Rachael Ray turned 50 on 25 August. She is known for hosting the daily talk and lifestyle program Rachael Ray, and three different Food Network series - 30 Minute Meals, Rachael Ray's Tasty Travels, and $40 a Day.

Aaron Eckhart

American actor Aaron Eckhart turned 50 on 12 March. After struggling as an unemployed actor for years, Eckhart began receiving roles thanks to his friend director and writer friend Neil LaBute whom he met as an undergraduate at Brigham Young University.

Eckhart’s most well-known films include In the Company of Men, Erin Brockovich, Thank You for Smoking, The Dark Night, Paycheck, Olympus Has Fallen, and Sully.

Kristin Chenoweth

Actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth knocked out 50 years on 24 July and said commented that she was “happy” to be aging. She shared with People magazine the advice Prince gave her, “He said, ‘How old are you?’ And I think at that time I was like 35 or something, and I said, ‘Oh, I'm 35.’ He goes, ‘Age is just a number.’ And I said, ‘How old are you?’ He goes, ‘I actually don't know.’ I thought that was cool. Like, who cares?”

Chenoweth’s film credits include Bewitched, The Pink Panther, and RV, as well as television roles on Pushing Daisies, GCB, Sesame Street, and Glee. She has also done voice work for several animated films and also released several musical albums.

Brendan Fraser

Brenden Fraser celebrated 50 years on 3 December. Years after disappearing from the spotlight, the actor has enjoyed a career resurgence recently after starring in the miniseries Trust. The actor has received glowing reviews for his role as fixer James Fletcher Chase who is sent to Rome to retrieve the kidnapped grandson of an oil tycoon.

The actor has starred in several successful films such as The Mummy trilogy, Encino Man, George of the Jungle, Bedazzled, Looney Tunes: Back in Action, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Gods and Monsters, The Quiet American, and Crash.

Debra Messing

Will & Grace star Debra Messing snuffed out 50 candles on 15 August. She recalls of the milestone, “I was filming 'Will & Grace' on my birthday, and it was great to be working! ... Then my son came into town to help me celebrate. Turning 50 feels kind of wonderful - I feel like I'm very at peace at where I am in my life and I'm very in touch with what I'm grateful for. I know who I am, and I feel really secure about saying no. I think it's a really good place to be!”

LL Cool J

LL Cool J (short for Ladies Love Cool James) knocked out 50 years on 14 January. The seemingly ageless hip hop artist and actor rose to fame after releasing hits such as "Going Back to Cali", "I'm Bad", "The Boomin' System", "Rock the Bells" and "Mama Said Knock You Out", as well as romantic ballads such as "Doin' It", "I Need Love", "All I Have", "Around the Way Girl" and "Hey Lover".

The actor has also appeared in several films such as In Too Deep, Any Given Sunday, S.W.A.T., Mindhunters, and Edison.

Laura Leighton

American actress Laura Leighton is best known for playing Sydney Andrews on the television series Melrose Place in the 1990s and its remake in the late 2000s. The Pretty Little Liars actress turned 50 on 24 July. Leighton has featured in guest or recurring roles in several television shows throughout her career.

Eric Bana

Australian actor and comedian Eric Bana turned 50 on 9 August. Bana began his career in a sketch comedy series titled Full Frontal before acting in movies, the fist being the Australian cult-classic film The Castle. Bana’s film credits include Black Hawk Down, Hulk, Troy, Munich, The Other Boleyn Girl, Star Trek, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Lone Survivor, and Deliver Us from Evil.

Anna Gunn

Actress Anna Gunn, best known for her role as Skyler White on the drama series Breaking Bad, celebrated 50 years on 11 August 1968. The Emmy Award-winning actress is also known for her roles as Dr. Elizabeth Davis in the film Sully, Martha Bullock on the western television series Deadwood, and Detective Ellie Miller on the crime drama series Gracepoint.

She is set to reprise her role as Martha Bullock in the Deadwood television film set for 2019.

Josh Brolin

Josh Brolin who began his career in the 1985 film The Goonies, entered the 50s on 12 February. The star of films such as No Country for Old Men, W., Milk, plays the villain Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as Cable in the X-Men film series, first appearing in 2018’s Deadpool 2.

Sophie Okonedo

English actress Sophie Okonedo celebrated 50 years on 11 August. The actress began her career in the coming-of-age drama Young Soul Rebels, before appearing in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, and later Dirty Pretty Things. Her breakthrough role came in Hotel Rwanda which led to roles in Æon Flux, Skin, The Secret Life of Bees, and Christopher Robin.

Carnie Wilson

American singer and television host Carnie Wilson, best known as a member of the pop music group Wilson Phillips, blew out 50 candles on 29 April. Wilson Phillips’ debut album sold over 10 million copies and won the Billboard Music Award for Hot 100 Single of the Year for “Hold On”.

Chynna Phillips

Chynna Phillips celebrated 50 years on 12 February. The Wilson Phillips band member has also acted in film and television. Her film credits include Some Kind of Wonderful, The Invisible Kid, Caddyshack II, Say Anything..., and Bridesmaids.

Pauly Shore

Actor, comedian and filmmaker Pauly Shore knocked out 50 years on 1 February. Shore is known for his roles in comedy films such as Encino Man, Son in Law, and Bio-Dome. The entertainer also hosted a show on MTV in the later 1980s and early 1990s. These days Shore primarily focuses on standup-up comedy.

Jeri Ryan

American actress Jeri Ryan, best known for her role as the Borg Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager, turned 50 on 22 February 1968. The actress is also known for her role as Veronica "Ronnie" Cooke on Boston Public and has also had minor roles on various other television shows over the years.

Edward Burns

Saving Private Ryan star Edward Burns turned 50-years-old on 29 January. The actor, producer, writer, and director has been part of a number of films and television shows over the years and in recent years focused on working behind the camera as a director.

Stephanie Seymour

Former Victoria’s Secret model Stephanie Seymour turned 50 on 23 July. The former model appeared in numerous issues of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue as well as on the cover of Vogue. Seymour was one of the most famous supermodels of the 1980s and 1990s and has primarily worked as a global spokesmodel for Estée Lauder since 2014.

Daniel Dae Kim

Korean-American actor and producer Daniel Dae Kim celebrated 50 years on 4 August. The ageless Kim is known for his roles as Jin-Soo Kwon in Lost, Chin Ho Kelly in Hawaii Five-0, Gavin Park in Angel, and voicing Johnny Gat in the Saints Row series of video games.

Kim currently produces The Good Doctor, an American medical drama television series based on the 2013 award-winning South Korean series of the same name which Kim purchased the rights for.

Carrie Ann Inaba

Dancer, choreographer and television dance competition judge, Carrie Ann Inaba hit the big 5-0 on 5 January. She is best known as one of the judges on the dance competition series Dancing with the Stars. Inaba is also known for her role as Fook Yu in Austin Powers in Goldmember.

Timothy Olyphant

American actor and producer Timothy Olyphant turned 50 on 20 May. After beginning his career in theater, the actor ventured into film. During his early career he was cast as villains such as in Scream 2, Go, A Man Apart, and The Girl Next Door. The actor is arguably best-known for his role as Sheriff Seth Bullock in the western television series Deadwood.

Andy Cohen

Emmy-winning producer, best-selling author, and talk show host Andy Cohen celebrated turning 50 on 2 June. Cohen’s late-night interactive talk show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen is the only live show in late night programing. Cohen is the first openly gay host of an American late-night talk show.

Shaggy

Jamaican musician, singer, and former United States Marine, Shaggy turned 50 on 22 October. Having taken his stage name from the character Shaggy from the children’s television show Scooby-Doo, the musician is known for such hits as "Oh Carolina", "Boombastic", "It Wasn't Me", and "Angel".

Lucy Lawless

New Zealand actress and singer Lucy Lawless celebrated turning 50-years-old on 29 March. She is best known for portraying the titular character on the television series Xena: Warrior Princess. Her other acting credits include playing Number Three on the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series, and Lucretia in Starz Spartacus television series.

Tracy Morgan

Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan, best known as a cast member on seven seasons on Saturday Night Live as well as Tracy Jordan on 30 Rock, turned 50 on 10 November. The actor currently stars as Tray Barker on the comedy series The Last O.G..

Tisha Campbell-Martin

Actress and singer Tisha Campbell-Martin blew out 50 candles on 13 October. The actress best-known roles include playing Regina "Gina" Waters-Payne in the comedy series Martin, Janet "Jay" Marie Johnson-Kyle in the comedy series My Wife and Kids, as well as regular roles on Rita Rocks, The Protector, and Dr. Ken.

Chad Lowe

Emmy winning actor Chad Lowe celebrated 50 years on 15 January. The former Melrose Place, ER, Now and Again, Pretty Little Liars actor currently stars as Thomas Coville on the superhero series Supergirl. He has also directed a number of episodes on several well-known television shows over the years.

Kelly Rutherford

Known for her role as Stephanie "Sam" Whitmore on the daytime soap opera Generations, as Megan Lewis on the primetime soap opera Melrose Place, and as Lily van der Woodsen on the series Gossip Girl, Kelly Rutherford celebrated 50 years on 6 November.

Thom Yorke

English musician Thom Yorke turned 50 on 7 October. A multi-instrumentalist known for his falsetto vocals, he is the lead singer and chief songwriter for the alternative rock band Radiohead. The band has sold over 30 million albums worldwide.

Guy Ritchie

English filmmaker Guy Ritchie, renowned for his crime films, celebrated 50 years on 10 September. His film credits include Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Revolver, RocknRolla, Sherlock Holmes, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. He is currently directing the film Aladdin set for a 2019 release.

Guy Fieri

American restaurateur, author and television personality Guy Fieri celebrated 50 years on 22 January. He is best known for his television series on the Food Network. he New York Times reported in 2010 that Fieri brought an “element of rowdy, mass-market culture to American food television”, with that his “prime-time shows attract more male viewers than any others on the network”.

Scott Wolf

From being the star of Party of Five to celebrating the big 5-0, actor Scott Wolf turned 50-years-old on 4 June. After playing Bailey Salinger in the former series, Wolf had roles as Jake Hartman in Everwood, and Chad Decker in V. Wolf has mostly acted in as a guest or recurring actor in television in recent years.

Sam Rockwell

The eldest child of legendary reggae artist Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley celebrated 50 years on 17 October. As a leader of the band Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Marley has continued to build on the legacy his late father left behind. He is also responsible for providing the theme song to the popular children’s cartoon series Arthur.

Catherine Bell

British-Iranian Catherine Bell turned 50 on 14 August. The actress is best known for her roles as Major Sarah MacKenzie in the television series JAG, Denise Sherwood in the series Army Wives, and Cassandra "Cassie" Nightingale in The Good Witch films and television series.

Helen McCrory

British actress Helen McCrory snuffed out 50 candles on 17 August. She has played a number of memorable characters in films such as Cherie Blair in The Queen and The Special Relationship, Francoise in Charlotte Gray, Narcissa Malfoy in the final three Harry Potter films, Mama Jeanne in Hugo, and Clair Dowar in Skyfall.

She has also portrayed Polly Gray in the series Peaky Blinders, and Emma Banville in Fearless.

Singer-songwriter, author, actress, and producer Lisa Loeb celebrated 50 years on 11 March. She is the first person to achieve a number 1 single in the United States as an artist without a recording contract with the song “Stay (I Missed You)” from the film Reality Bites.

Patricia Arquette

Patricia Arquette celebrated 50 years on 8 April. The day before her birthday, the Academy Award-winning actress Tweeted that she had attended David Lynch-themed drag show that featured her character from Lost Highway. The actress won her Oscar for her role as Olivia: Mason Jr. in the coming-of-age drama film Boyhood which was shot over a period of eleven years from 2002 to 2013.

Damon Albarn

English musician and lead singer of the rock band Blur, Damon Albarn, rocked into the 50s on 23 March. The musician is also the co-founder, lead vocalist, instrumentalist, and chief songwriter for the virtual band Gorillaz.

Des’ree

British R&B recording artist Des’ree turned 50-years-old on 30 November. She rose to popularity in the 1990s and is well known for hit songs such as “Feel So High”, “You Gotta Be”, “Life”, and “Kissing You”. The singer has not released any new material since her 2003 album Dream Soldier. In 2007 she famously sued Beyoncé for covering "I'm Kissing You" without her permission.

Jason Donovan

Australian actor and singer Jason Donovan who began his career on the Australian soap opera series Neighbours before embarking on a musical career, turned 50 on 1 June. The singer has sold over 3 million records in the UK and has four UK number one singles.

Julia Sawalha

English actress Julia Sawalha, known for her role as Saffron Monsoon in the sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, turned 50 on 9 September. She is also known for her roles as Lynda Day in Press Gang, Lydia Bennet in the miniseries Pride and Prejudice, Dorcas Lane in Lark Rise to Candleford, Carla Borrego in Jonathan Creek, and Jan Ward in Remember Me.

Billy Boyd

Scottish actor and musician Billy Boyd, who played Peregrin "Pippin" Took in Peter Jackson's epic film trilogy The Lord of the Rings, turned 50 on 28 August. He is also known for playing Barret Bonden in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and Glen in Seed of Chucky.

Patsy Kensit

English actress, singer and model, Patsy Kensit celebrated 50 years on 4 March. She was previously the lead singer of the band Eighth Wonder in the 1980s. She also played the role of role of Sadie King in the soap opera Emmerdale, and later Faye Byrne in the medical drama Holby City.

Ricki Lake

Television presenter, actress, and producer Ricki Lake turned 50 on 21 September. She held the record for being the youngest person to ever host a syndicated talk show at 24-years-old. The show aired from 1993 to 2004. Lake is also known for playing the lead role as Tracy Turnblad in the 1988 film Hairspray.
