Finally: Zombiland 2 Has An Official Green light By Sony

In 2009 Sony released Zombieland, a post-apocalyptic comedy about A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the last Twinkie, and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park as they join forces to travel across a zombie-infested America. The movie became a sleeper hit earning just over $100 million worldwide on a $24M budget.

Since its release, the film continued to build itself a cult following that craves a sequel. In the past few years, many rumors were spread around that a second movie is happening but most times the rumors were debunked by officials until now, that is.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Sony is moving forward with Zombieland 2 and have all the pieces in place. The sequel has been written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese who just came off panning both Deadpool scripts, and will be directed by Ruben Fleischer (who directed the first movie) , following his upcoming Venom project.

But fans will probably be more excited hearing that all four original cast members will be returning, such as Jessy Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, and Abigail Breslin. They all signed on to the sequel.

The report indicates that Production is slated to begin in early 2019 with the intention of releasing Zombieland 2 sometime next October around the first film's tenth anniversary.

President of Columbia pictures (film division of Sony Entertainment) Sanford Panitch had this to say about the project: "“This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time — and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse and Abigail, These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”

He is not kidding about the actors being more in demand than ever, Woody Harrelson just came off a role in Solo: A Star Wars Story and the Oscar nomination for  Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. Eisenberg's in the meantime starred in The Social NetworkBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the Now You See Me franchise since the first Zombieland. And let's not forget Emma Stone who won an Oscar for her work in La La Land and can be next seen in The Favourite.

We will need to wait a while further until we will able to see the first trailer or get an official release date but the wait should be much more bearable for fans now that they know that the franchise is indeed returning to the silver
