‘NCIS’: How Michael Weatherly Really Felt About Cote de Pablo

NCIS fans followed faithfully the romance between Tony Dinozzo, played by Michael Weatherly, and Ziva David, played by Cote de Pablo, since they first appeared on the series.

The two had such undeniable chemistry that weekly watchers couldn’t wait to see what adventures they went on together next and often even wondered if there was more to their relationship off the screen. However, though they acted wonderfully together on set, the two enjoyed a very professional relationship offset and have never even dated.

Weatherly has been married to Bojana Jankovic (his second wife) since 2009 while de Pablo dated Diego Serrano, an Ecuadorian actor, from 2000 to 2015. However, Weatherly’s answer was surprising when asked what his first impression was of De Pablo.

So What Was It Like?

Entertainment Tonight interviewed the pair and asked what Weatherly thought; he responded that he was quite taken with the actress and had nothing but good feelings about her right away.

“My first impression was that you were a very put-together young lady from New York. I was amazed by the focus and the clarity of the performance, and before I knew it, I had fallen hopelessly, desperately into an enchanted spell,” said Weatherly. Impressed with his response, de Pablo exclaimed, “Wow. That was quite the answer!”

Fans had taken to referring to the pair as “Tiva,” combining Tony and Ziva together, so de Pablo asked Weatherly what couple name he would give them in real life if they were actually romantically involved. He humorously responded with the nickname, “ham and cheese.” But who is the ham, and who would be the cheese? Weatherly said that de Pablo would be the cheese while he would be the former.

According to Cote de Pablo, she and Weatherly’s chemistry was so great because of their audition. Weatherly was playful and flirty, and when he later drove her home, they realized that even off the set they got along famously. De Pablo said that it was evident that they “totally clicked” during that car ride – and from there sprung our beloved “Tiva!”
