Rihanna has now opened the doors to her highly anticipated fashion brand, Fenty. The clothing line launched its global digital flagship following the opening of a successful pop-up shop in Paris on May 24th.
Earlier this month, she announced her partnership with Parisian luxury organization Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, known as LVMH. Fenty is the first new fashion house to partner with Louis since Christian Lacroix debuted in 1987. On top of that, Rihanna is the first black woman to launch a luxury brand with this company.
The singer/businesswoman is also the youngest person to take the helm as president of the company. Her Fenty line released on May 19th with an homage to photographer Kwame Brathwaite.
Born in 1938, Kwame Brathwaite was born and grew up in NYC and is considered one of the finest documentary photographer of all times. He documented cultural, political, and social developments in Harlem.
Along with his older brother, Elombe Brathwaite, they founded the African Jazz Art Society and Studios in 1956. In the 60s, his work was in the New York Amsterdam News, The City Sun, and the Daily Challenge.
He is also known for his photographed concerts of Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, James Brown, and Muhammad Ali! He was honored at the 75th Aperture Gala in 2017. He is now 81 years-of-age.
