Famous Stars Turning 70 In 2018

None of these celebrities look over 70 and you will be surprised at the people that have made this list.  The years have passed and for many of these guys, it has been pretty kind.

This list is full of the celebrities that are reaching the grand old age of 70 in 2018.  Some of these are much loved Oscar-winning film stars, others are popular on our TV and some are even in politics.  Some are more famous than others but all will be reaching their seventh decade this year.

Jean Reno

Jean Reno, the star of “Leon” and, more recently, "Mission: Impossible" reached his 70th birthday on 30th July 2018.  He is still making movies and shows no sign of slowing down.

Age hasn't slowed down the French actor who has acted in multiple productions in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese.  Expect to see him on your screens in the upcoming movies "Doorman" and "The Man Who Saved Paris."

A Heavy Comic?

Reno played a lot of ‘heavies’ in his early movies, this was essentially because at 6 ft 2 in tall he was physically well suited to these roles.  However he has also appeared in romantic movies as well as the action roles for which he is well known.

His most famous roles include Godzilla, The Da Vinci Code, Mission: Impossible, Ronin, and Léon: The Professional.

Who else is on the 2018 Celebrities-turning-70 list?  Well, there is Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osborne who hits 70 on December 3rd, and there must be something in the rock and roll lifestyle because Ozzy looks a lot younger than his years.  Maybe he really is the “Prince of Darkness”!?  Robert Plant, the legendary Led Zeppelin frontman is also about to reach 70 years of age.

There are also a fair few female celebrities who will be reaching the 70 year milestone in 2018.  On 28th June it is Kathy Bates’ turn to celebrate, but other famous ladies who are turning 70 include Olivia Newton John, Rhea Perlman, and Stevie Nicks.  Enjoy the list and don’t forget to give us your thoughts in the comments section.

Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks has been named one of the greatest songwriters or all time by Rolling Stone.  At 70, which she celebrated on 26th May, Nicks is still a music icon and continues to sell out shows.

She will be touring with Fleetwood Mac from 3rd October.  Not only was she a key performer with the band, she also had a brilliant solo career.

Successful Whether Together Or Alone

Stevie Nicks is as famous for her stage persona, personal dress style and her lyrics as she is for her distinctive vocal range.  Rolling Stone named her as one of the greatest singers of all time.

As part of her solo career and with Fleetwood Mac Nicks has ramped up worldwide record sales of over 140  million.

Jackson Browne

Jackson hit the big 7-0 on October 9th 2018.  Jackson Browne certainly earned his place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he has sold over 18million albums and as well as performing songs he is a prolific songwriter.

One Of The Greatest Songwriters

In 2015 Brown received the honor of being named the 37th greatest songwriter of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine.  His most famous songs include “Tender is the Night”, “Somebody’s Baby”, “Stay”, "The Pretender", “That Girl Could Sing”, "Running on Empty" and "Lawyers in Love".

Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam

Yusuf Islam, (formerly known as Cat Stevens), celebrated his 70 year birthday on July 21. The British star is known for a number of hit songs such as "Father and Son", "Wild World", “The First Cut Is The Deepest”, “Matthew And Son”, "Peace Train", "Moonshadow", and "Morning Has Broken" among others.

Conversion To Islam

Back In 1977 Stevens converted to Islam and took on the name Yusuf Islam in 1978. A year later he auctioned off his guitars for charity and left music behind so he could concentrate all his attention on Islam by working for several educational and philanthropic causes. It took many years, but he finally returned to music in 2006, but keeping Yusuf as his stage name as well. He released his first album in 28 years.

Kathy Bates

Accomplished actress Kathy Bates celebrated the big 7-0 on 28th June.  Her work in TV has been astounding and she is now back to work on the 8th season of the dark horror series “American Horror Story”.

Over the span of her TV career Bates has been nominated for 14 Emmy Awards, including one win for her work in American Horror Story (2013-14).

An Award Winning Actress

Kathy Bates has also had a successful movie career, winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Annie Wilkes in the film “Misery” which was released in 1990.

She has also received nominations for two BAFTA awards.  Bates has received 2 Golden Globes, 2 Screen Actor Guild Awards, and 3 American Comedy Awards.

Kenny Loggins

Who can forget the banging hit song from the movie "Footloose"?  Although this is probably Kenny Loggins most famous song he started recording way back in 1970 with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.  They made several albums together.  Loggins reached 70 on 7th January 2018.

The Soundtrack King

Loggins’ work on movie soundtracks has earned him the title “The Soundtrack King” as he was known in the 1980s and 1990s.  In 1984 he won an academy award nomination for “Footloose” but also worked on “A Star is Born”, the 1976 hit movie starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

Donna Karan

Donna Karan is the DK half of the DKNY clothing label.  Fashion designer Karan had her birthday celebrations on October 2nd, when she hit the ripe old age of 70.  Karen is no CEO for the DKNY clothing label but she remains on the board both as a designer for the range and also as the chairwoman.

The Queen Of Seventh Avenue

DKNY was an extension of Karan’s original New York clothing range and was aimed at younger women with a smaller clothing budget. This was launched in 1988 and in 1990 she also created her own denim brand – DKNY Jeans.

By 1992 she had expanded into men’s wear by launching the ‘Signature’ line.  No wonder she was known as The Queen of Seventh Avenue.

Olivia Newton-John

The star of the hit movie “Grease” has had a well-publicized fight with breast cancer, recently confirming that she is suffering from the disease for the third time.  Olivia Newton-John had her 70th birthday on 26th September this year.

The soundtrack from Grease produced some of her more memorable hits including “You’re the One that I Want”, her duet with John Travolta.

100 Million Records Sold

Olivia Newton-John has 4 Grammy awards to her name and has had many singles in the Billboard Top 100, including 5 number one hits. She has sold over 100million records worldwide.

Not only is the native Australian singer one of the world’s best selling female artists, she recently received an honorary Doctorate from La Trobe University.

Jeremy Irons

Jeremy Irons is an accomplished English actor who turned 70 on 19th September.  He is still actively pursuing film roles, his most recent starring in “Red Sparrow” supporting actress Jennifer Lawrence in the title role.

He is also well known in the DC universe as Alfred Pennyworth, Batman’s butler and general all round right-hand man.

Triple Crown Of Acting Winner

Jeremy Irons really can lay claim to being one of the top actors of our day, winning all 3 of the top awards – known as the Triple Crown of Acting.  Irons won an Oscar for film, an Emmy for his roles on TV and the Tony Award for his work on the theater stage.

Ina Garten

Superstar cook Ina Garten reached her 70th milestone on 2nd February this year.  Ina is well known on the Food Network but actually taught herself to cook using various cookbooks.

Her success belies the fact that she had no formal training and mainly relied on feedback from her friends to ensure that her recipes were perfect.

Barefoot Contessa

Before she reached fame as an author and became the face of the hit Food Network show Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten worked in the White House.  A culinary career was a big step away from the Office of Management and Budget!

She began with her now-famous store Barefoot Contessa, renowned for its gourmet food and then wrote several cookbooks, wrote for magazines and launched her own brand of convenience foods.

Bryant Gumbel

Bryant Gumbel is the famous host of HBO’s  "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel" which won a Peabody Aware back in 2012.  He’s been hosting the show, rated as one of TVs best sports programs since 1995.

Before his work as an anchorman, Gumbel worked as a journalist.

Growing His Fanbase

Gumbel joined the team at NBC sports way back in 1975.  At that time he was co-hosting the Grand Stand show with Jack Buck.  He continued with NBC for almost a decade, hosting many sporting events, then he left in 1982 and fronted The Today Show.

This was the show that really helped him to grow a huge fan base and he was rewarded for his talents with several Emmy Awards.

Bonnie Bedelia

Actress Bonnie Bedelia hit her 70th birthday this year on 25th March.

After starting her career in the theater she moved into various soap operas and TV shows becoming well known for her role in “Parenthood” and later starred alongside Bruce Willis in the hit Die Hard movie franchise.  She continues to work in film and TV.

Aunt of Macaulay Culkin

Bonnie Bedelia’s work in TV was recognized when she was twice nominated for Emmy Awards.  She worked in the drama series "The Division", and between 2010 and 2015 took a starring role as the family Matriarch in NBC’s family drama, "Parenthood".

She is also the famous aunt of the Culkin brothers – Macaulay, Kieran, and Rory.

George R. R. Martin

George R R Martin is well known for his series of books which were televised in “Game of Thrones”, a major series on the HBO network.  George celebrated his 70th birthday on 20th September this year and is still working on the sixth book in his Game of Thrones series.

He has been writing “The Winds of Winter” since 2011, however he has still not given any indication of when this might be completed and released for sale.

Not A Fan Of Fan Fiction

George R R Martin has been vocal on his dislike of fan fiction which he considers undermines the ability of writers to develop their own unique skills, as well as seeing it as a form of copyright infringement – so be warned!

Time magazine named him “the American Tolkien” because of his unique ability to develop intricate worlds and characters and in 2011 he made the list for the Time 100 most influential people.

Steven Tyler

Steven Tyler is best known as the lead singer of the rock band Aerosmith and his recent documentary  "Steven Tyler: Out On a Limb," he hit the big 7-0 on 26th March and is still going strong.  In fact, he is going to be putting on some solo shows this year.

Tyler is an accomplished musician; as well as singing he can also play the piano and the harmonica and even turns his hand to percussion.

The Demon Of Screamin

The "Demon of Screamin” is a nicknamed earned by Tyler because of his ability to use his vocal range to the max.  Tyler always gives a high energy performance on stage complete with amazing and brightly colored outfits. And of course, he always has his signature scarves on his mike stand.

Robert Plant

On 20th August Robert Plant reached his 7th decade and the ripe old age of 70 years.  Front man of the legendary rock band Led Zeppelin Plant is still rocking and in October of 2017, he released “Carry Fire”, his 11th studio album.

Plant remains one of the most charismatic frontmen of rock.  Alongside contemporary singers like David Bowie, Roger Daltrey and Mick Jagger, Plant epitomizes rock and roll.

The "God Of Rock And Roll"

Robert Plant has an incredible vocal range and it is this which has sustained him through a 50 year carer in rock.  In 2011 he was ranked top lead singer by Rolling Stone readers.

In his early days Plant helped to create the whole ‘rock god’ image, often bare-chested and sporting a mane of long hair, Plant was the epitome of the rock and roll lifestyle.

Ozzy Osbourne

“Prince of Darkness” Ozzy Osbourne will be celebrating his 70th birthday on 3rd December.  He is still rocking all the way having completed a reunion tour with Black Sabbath only last year.

Ozzy Osbourne rose to fame as the front man for Black Sabbath which was prominent in the carts throughout the 1970s.  The band later fired him and in 1979 he decided to go on and have a solo career.

This was a great success and he released 11 albums.  Seven of these reached platinum in the US.  He was also the star of the show “The Osbournes” which gave us all an insight into their crazy family life.

The Godfather Of Heavy Metal

Osbourne was inducted into the Roll and Roll Hall of Fame along with the rest of his bandmates in Black Sabbath.  He remains one of the most successful rockers of all time with total album sales of over 100 million.  He is often called the Godfather of Heavy metal.

Prince Charles

Future King of England, Prince Charles will be celebrating his 70th birthday on 14th November.

2018 has been a great year for Prince Charges, he welcomed Prince Louis and April 23rd, his third grandchild and also celebrated his son Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle with another grandchild due to arrive in Spring next year.

The Long Wait

Prince Charles is Queen Elizabeth II’s eldest child and the heir apparent to the British crown.   throne as the eldest child of Queen Elizabeth II.  Prince Charles holds the titles Prince of Wales,  Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay, but is also the oldest heir apparent in British history.

Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper reached the age of 70 back on 4th February and is still earning rave reviews, this time as King Herod in “Jesus Christ Superstar” which aired live on NBC.  Cooper’s career has been full on for the past 50 years and shows no signs of slowing down

The Godfather Of Shock Rock

Cooper has often been called “The Godfather of Shock Rock” and it is not surprising!  If you go to one of his stage shows you can expect plenty of shocks from snakes, baby dolls, electric chairs, and even guillotines.

Not to mention the gallons of fake blood!  Cooper says his influences have been horror movies and vaudeville acts, he certainly managed to re-brand those into a unique brand of rock and roll.

Si Robertson

Si Robertson had his 70th birthday this year on 27th April.  His hit show "Duck Dynasty"  ended in 2017 and he is no longer gracing our TV screens.  He is pictured here with his nephews, Jep and Willie Robertson.

Breakout Role

Si Robertson was a breakout character in the hit show “Duck Dynasty” but he also starred in many other shows.  He had a role in the Outdoor Channel show, “Buck Commander and The Duckmen of Louisiana,” and was also the host of Going Si-Ral – a Duck Dynasty spin off show.

Grace Jones

Grace Jones is one of the most iconic figures of the 1980s and she celebrated her 70th birthday on 19th May this year.  She is still going strong, recently enjoying a musical collaboration with rock band Gorillaz and performing in Cannes.

Musician Turned Actress

In 1977, the androgynous supermodel launched a musical career and was signed with Island Records.  Jones was popular in the New York disco scene, particularly in the famous Studio 54 area.  She later moved into movies in hits like View to a Kill, she starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Destroyer and took the lead role in Vamp. A View to a Kill, and Vamp.  Her performances in these rolls netted her a nomination for best-supporting actress at the Saturn Awards.

Billy Crystal

Known for his roles in hit movies such as “When Harry Met Sally”, Billy Crystal had his 70th birthday on 14th March.  Crystal is still acting and has two films currently in the pipeline:  "Untogether" and "We Are Unsatisfied."

In the 1970s, Billy played Jodie Dallas in the hit sitcom “Soap” which ran on NBC before moving into Hollywood movies in the late 80’s.

Host Of The Oscars

Billy Crystal is a wonderful host and his ability has been critically acclaimed.  He won 2 Emmys for hosting and writing the 63rd Academy award and a further Emmy the following year for writing.  He first hosted the Academy Awards in 1990 and since then has hosted it a whopping 9 times, most recently in 2012.

Crystal is renowned for including a song and a comedic video segment into his hosting gigs.  In his videos, he is often inserted in among the previous year's nominees.

Andrew Lloyd Webber

Andrew Lloyd Webber has had a long and distinguished career in which has composed 13 musicals, as well as film scores, a Requiem Mass in Latin and numerous other pieces.

n March Lloyd Webber published his memoir, “Unmasked” as he turned 70 on March 22.  His musicals are legendary, with many running for over a decade in London’s West End and on Broadway.

A Commercially Successful Composer

Not only has Lloyd Webber’s musical shows struck all the right notes, but many of his songs also became hits in their own right and have been recorded many times by various artists.

The most well known of this are songs from The Phantom of the Opera, "The Music of the Night" having been covered by several artists, "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" from Evita, and "Memory" from Cats.

Phylicia Rashād

Phylicia Rashād is still gracing our screens at the age of 70 having celebrated this year on 19th June.  In 2017 she starred in "When We Rise", a miniseries on the ABC network.

As a result of her role in “A Raisin in the Sun” in 2004, she won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play and was the first black actress to do so.

"The Mother" Of The Black Community

Phylicia Rashād is well known for her role in “The Cosby Show” which ran on NBC from 1984 until 1992.  She received an Emmy nomination for her role as Clair Huxtable in 1985 and 1986.  At the 2010 NAACP Image Awards, Phylicia Rashād was called “The Mother” of the black community.

Bernadette Peters

On 28th February Bernadette Peters reached her 70th birthday.  Peters is an icon of musical theater and was still on Broadway in January this year, starring in “Hello Dolly”.

Her career has spanned 50 years and has included not only musical theater and TV productions but also solo recordings and performing in concerts.

Critically Acclaimed Broadway Performer

Bernadette Peters has received several Tony Award nomination.  She won 2 of these, an honorary award.  She won 3 Drama Desk Awards and was nominated for 9.  She performed on 4 Broadway cast albums which received Grammy Awards.

Peters won an Emmy and Golden Globe award and has been nominated three times.

Rhea Perlman

On 30th March, “Cheers” actress Rhea Perlman celebrated her 70th birthday.  This year she also took a role off Broadway in “Good for Otto” in which she replaced Rosie O’Donnell.  In 2017 Perlman made her last appearance on “The Mindy Project”.

We'll Drink To That

Rhea Perlman’s best-known role is as Carla Tortelli, the character who was the head waitress in the sitcom “Cheers” which ran from1982 to 1993.

Perlman was in the show for 11 seasons,  during which time was received 10 nominations at the Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress, which she won 4 times, she was also nominated 6 times for the Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series.

Barbara Hershey

Barbara Hershey is still making great movies, recently starring in “Insidious:  The Last Key”, and also stars regularly in The X-Files.  5th February this year was Hershey’s 70th milestone.

Hershey was always known as a “hippie” back in the early days of her career. She is very private about her personal life, ensuring that this is kept out of the press as much as possible to avoid conflict between her personal life and her acting career.

"One Of America's Finest Actresses"

Hershey began acting at the tender age of 17 back in 1965.  However, she did not achieve any kind of fame until the late 1980s when critics started to recognize her talents.

Over the last 50 years, she has played in many roles over a range of genres both on TV and on the big screen.  She was once referred to as “one of America’s finest actresses” by the Chicago Tribune.

Richard Simmons

Richard Simmons is a fitness instructor famed for his weight-loss programs.  Simmons has an eclectic personal style and a high octane personality and he is well known for his flamboyant approach to fitness.

His aerobic video series “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” saw him rise to fame.  He reached 70 on 12th July 2018.

Friend Of Late Night Talk Shows

While Simmons is well known because of his TV presence and the popularity of his videos he actually began his career when he opening a gym in Beverly Hills.

Imaginatively named ‘Slimmons’, the gym catered for those wanting to lose weight.  His unique personality lends well to parody and he is often a guest of various talk shows.

Carl Weathers

Former NFL star Carl Weathers is still in great shape.  Weather turned 70 on 14th January and is set to star in "Easter" in 2019.

Weathers is well known as Apollo Creed in the Rocky series but also played the role of Al Dillon in Predator, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, he started in both Happy Gilmore and Little Nicky and also played a version of himself in Arrested Development.

Football And Acting

Weathers played for Oakland Raiders in the NFL, and in the Canadian Football League, he placed for the BC Lions.  He is still in great shape today.  Weathers achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Drama through the San Francisco State University, where he graduated in 1974.

That same year he retired from football to pursue his acting career.

Christopher Guest

Christopher Guest once starred in the movie “The Princess Bride” but is now a renowned director, recently writing, directing and starring in “Mascots” - a mockumentary that aired on Netflix.  Guest is married to actress Jamie Lee Curtis (pictured here) and had his 70th birthday celebration on 5th February.

An Unusual Film Making Approach

Christopher Guest is well known for his work with mock-documentary style comedy films.  Actors who pick up a role in these can expect no rehearsal time and have to improvise many of the scenes at the time that they are filmed.

Barbara Mandrell

Barbara Mandrell will be 70 on Christmas Day, 25th December 2018.  Barbara retired in 1997 having been a successful country music singer because she wanted to spend more time with her family. She is pictured here with Brad Paisley at the 2016 CMA Awards.

A True Country Icon

During the 1970s and 1980s Barbara had a series of top 10 country hits and starred in various TV shows.  She was one of the most successful female country stars of her era.

She is known for a series of top-10 hits and TV shows in the 1970s and 1980s that helped her become one of the country's most successful female vocalists of that period.

Barbara is a member of the Grand Old Opry and in 2009 she joined other country music stars in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Daphne Maxwell Reid

Known for her role in"The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"  Daphne Maxwell Reid had her 70th birthday on 13th July this year.  A mother of three and a renowned photographer Reid has recently starred in the romcom TV show "Let's Stay Together" on BET and the movie, "By the Grace of Bob."

First Black Woman On Glamour

Her best known and most loved role was as Vivian Banks in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.  She joined the cast of the NBC sitcom in 1993 and was in the show until 1996.  Daphne was the first woman of color to be featured on the cover of Glamour magazine.

James Taylor

James Taylor, best known as the singer of the hit song, “You’ve got a friend” reached the 70-year mark on 12th March.  He’s certainly not taking it easy though, he even went on tour in 2018.

Taylor has won 5 Grammy awards and achieved sales of over 1 million copies for every album he has released.

Five-Time Grammy Award Winner

Taylor is one of the world’s best selling artists and in 2000 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  His records sales worldwide have topped 100million.  His best work was recorded during the 1990s and early 2000s for which he received numerous Grammy Awards.

David Marks

David marks rejoined the Beach Boys in 2012 and went on to take part in many performances including their 50th Anniversary tour.  He had previously left the band in 1999 and had performed as a session musician and headed up The Marksmen.  He hit 70 on 22nd August

A Friend Of The Band

Marks grew up in Hawthorne, California where he became friends with the original members of the Beach Boys.  He could often be found at their Sunday night family singalongs.

Ted Nugent

Ted Nugent fronted the Chicago based band The Amboy Dukes and is still performing.  Despite reaching 70 on 13th December Nugent is currently on tour.  The Amboy Dukes formed in 1963 and was part of the psychedelic rock scene.

Their main hit was “Journey to the Center of the Mind”.  Nugent left the Amboy Dukes in the mid-late 70s to pursue a solo career.

An Outspoken Voice

Nugent has been vocal for his advocacy of gun ownership and hunting rights.  He is a fervent opponent of drug and alcohol abuse and is well known for his political conservatism.

John Carpenter

Esteemed movie director John Carpenter was 70 on 16th January.  His most famous work is movies in the horror, action and sci-fi genres, with "Halloween" possibly being his most famous movie.

In 2018 Carpenter returned to make another sequel in the Halloween series.  He was most active as a movie director in the 1970s and 80s.

Composing The Music For His Films

Many of John Carpenter’s films did not receive immediate critical or audience approval and were often also box office failures.  However, most of the films he directed during the 70s and 80s are now cult classics and his influence in filmmaking has been well recognized.

Carpenter is also a talented composer, taking responsibility for the soundtracks of many of his films. The most well known is probably the main theme music in Halloween which has taken its place among the scariest music in modern horror.

Al Gore

Al Gore is a former Vice President of The USA turned environmentalist. He turned 70 on March 31. He served as President Bill Clinton’s VP from 1993 to 2001. He almost took the Presidency himself in 2000. Gore is still a strong activist on environmental issues and an author. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his activism on climate change.

Almost President


Al Gore was almost president when going up against George Bush, but did not win. The difference was Florida. In Florida the votes were recounted and finally it was settled by the Supreme Court which ruled that Bush won. Gore did win the popular vote, but it wasn't enough as he lost to Bush in the Electoral College.

Terry Bradshaw

Famous football player and NFL quarterback Terry Bradshaw celebrated 70 on September 2. As you probably understand, he is a retired player. He left football back in 1983. He was so good and prominent that he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989. In his career, he won four Super Bowl titles in a six-year period (1974 to 1979.) He played 14 seasons in the Pittsburgh Steelers uniform.

After Football

He, later on, served as an NFL analyst and commentator on several TV sports shows. He has several books he wrote or co-wrote on his shelf, and he also has six country-western and gospel music albums.

He appeared on many commercials and in cameo spots on TV shows and films. He is the only NFL player to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Lewis Black

Funnyman Lewis Black turned 70 on August 30. He is famous for his angry and unique demeanor and comedic style. He is known for his onscreen comedic mental breakdowns. Black is a beloved guest on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.” He delivers his “Back in Black” segment on everything.

Comedy Routine

In an interview, he once described his humor as “being on the Titanic every single day and being the only person who knows what is going to happen.” Black’s style is mainly talking about a man who is dealing with life and its absurdities, and that is all mixed with politics and sanity.

Jimmy Cliff

Funny Actor Jerry Mathers turned 70 on June 2. He is known for his role in the TV sitcom “Leave It to Beaver.” He played Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver. The sitcom has been shown in over 80 countries and translated into 40 languages. It ran for six years from 1957 to 1963 with 234 episodes in all.

In an interview, he said that he got the part of Beaver Cleaver by not wanting it. Mathers said that he told the show's producers he "would rather be at his Cub Scout meeting than audition for the part." The producers liked his attitude.
