Meet The Real (Female) Tarzan

The childhood of a young French woman sounds more like a newer version of Mowgli, rather than something real. Tippi Degré was born in Windhoek, Namibia, in 1990 to wildlife photographer-filmmaker parents Sylvie Robert and Alain Degre and spent the first ten years of her life in Southern Africa.

Her brother was an elephant, her best friend a leopard and her playground was the African bush. As a “wild child”, Tippi spent her whole childhood playing with wild animals including lion cubs, a mongoose, a snake, a cheetah, baby zebra, giraffes and crocodiles. She saw nothing unusual about her company. “I don’t have friends here. Because I never see children. So the animals are my friends,” she once said.

From sitting on the back of an ostrich, lying peacefully with a young leopard or sitting on the trunk of an elephant, these amazing pictures show an unusual bond and tranquility between man and beast.

With her childish imagination and innocence, the little girl managed to befriend one of the giants of the animal kingdom, a 28-year-old elephant named Abu. Her mother said Tippi had no fear. She did not realize the difference in their sizes; the girl would just walk up to him and talk to the beast.

Despite the apparent ease and comfort with which Tippi interacted with the animals, her parents always put her safety first. “You can’t just meet any of these animals and act like this with them,” explains Sylvie. Of course, it sounded too good to be true, because the majority of the animals Tippi interacted with have been domesticated by the people who live in the desert regions of Southern Africa.

A documentary film on her experiences, Le Monde Selon Tippi (The World According to Tippi) was released in 1997. In 2002–03, Degré presented six wildlife and environmental TV documentaries for the Discovery Channel.

Watch: Rare Shark Videod Near Underwater Volcano

Ocean engineers go on long journeys in the rivers, sea, and oceans in hope of finding new underwater species. The deeper they venture, the more likely it is for them to find something rare and unseen.

A National Geographic team caught something on video which is quite amazing.

National Geographic Explorer Brennan Phillips and his team sent a submersible camera to different depths in order to find something. They weren’t quite sure of what they will find. They traveled and explored many parts of the ocean until one day they were exploring around a volcano called Kava chi near the Solomon Islands and found something which was very rare.

They caught a glimpse of a rare shark. Phillips claimed that No one has ever studied it ever up close, so to me, as a scientist and inspiring explorer, that’s right through the picking.”

Phillips explained that the plan was to study the volcano but they found so much more. It was like a bonus to the team. They filmed a sleeper shark. The team sent pictures to marine scientists and biologists to confirm their findings. They all agreed that it was indeed a pacific sleeper shark.

Until now this shark has only been captured on video 3 times before. Survival around Kava chi volcano is hard because of the high temperature of water and hostile environment, however this shark was found here. The video of the shark was aired on the national geographic channel which credited the efforts of the explorer and his team mates.

Predator Accosts Man Cycling Through Woods

In life, we can often find ourselves just looking to escape from day to day living from a little while. We can do that in all manner of ways, from a quick trip on foot to a nice little cycle through some lovely terrain. However, if you happen to step out into the wilds and the woods, you had best be prepared to look after yourself. YouTube channel Deep Bush Survival is living proof of the need to be vigilant wherever we go; you never know what kind of monsters are out there waiting for you!

They show off all manner of videos about survival and getting out of tight spots in the world. One of their most recent videos, though, is one of their most popular – watch it and you will see why…

Shot in October 2015, this video shows one of their team heading off for a ride in a mountainous, forested area on his bike. Relatively away from civilization from the looks of things, he’s cutting around on his bike and continues to showcase a wonderful, temperate location that really is quite wonderful to look at. In the middle of the video, though, we see something rather terrifying appear amongst the long grass.

At first, he does not even appear to notice it in the grass, such is the quality of its camouflage. He only notices the creature when it begins to slowly rustle through the grass to get closer to him. Immediately, he realises that he is in a lot of danger – far more than you would expect going on a standard trip like this.

It’s a mountain lion; one of the most dangerous creatures that you could likely run into in the wild, unarmed and on your own. These are extremely powerful, intelligent and agile cats that could, if they catch you, do you some deal damage – in fact, it’s likely it could even kill you!

As you might imagine, he takes a few steps back but the lion only takes this as encouragement that it has him on the run and proceeds to bound towards him. If it wanted dinner, it was going to catch him in a matter of seconds.

Trying to talk it down, informing it that he is “much bigger” that cat seems entirely unbothered. It starts to circle him like any predator would, creating a rather anxious moment that leaves you wondering how the man is going to get out of this one alive. Trying to scare it away with loud noises, the mountain lion makes some terrifying, low grumbles – showing it’s hungry, and ready to strike.

He tries to mimic its noises, only proceeding to anger it further. A small gap in the film shows us the lion still following the man to the end of a path. Rather than keep this cat and mouse game going, though, he starts to walk towards it in a bid to try and make it think twice – and it does so.

Seemingly put off by not having everything its own way, the cat turns around and stalks back into the woods, off to threaten someone else. With over 2m views at the time of writing, this video is a perfect example of how quickly things can turn dangerous in the wild – and how quickly they can go back to normal, too. How would you react in such a situation?

Amazing Dog Survives Ballast of Bullets

Dogs are truly amazing creatures, and they often do many things to surprise us and show us they are more than just mere animals. Recently, though, one story really caught the eye. It came from Animals Lebanon, where a volunteer there, Amal Andari, was out and about with a friend taking a drive. They came across a poor dog that was walking around the road, looking lost and uncertain.

They went to see what was up with the dog – and soon noticed with immediate horror that the dog had been shot. Speaking to The Dodo, Andari was clear about what was seen: “We saw a hole in her head.

“We stopped and walked down to her. She was a little bit fearful, but we called her, and she came, and she was wagging her tail. She approached us, but slowly, and we gave her some water,” Andari added.

Speaking to a local man about what may have been the cause of such an injury, he was unsure, saying “maybe a dog attacked her.”

Immediately, they took the dog with them to a local veterinarian, where it was checked out. It turns out that the little puppy, only 2 months old, had been SHOT over a dozen times. Small pellets were found all over its body during the x-ray; only look if you can handle seeing such barbarity to animals.

Alongside the damage that was done to her physically, she was also suffering from parvovirus; in some cases, a deadly condition.

“There were so many pellets. We think that a bunch of teenagers had ‘fun’ shooting her,” Andari said.

Sadly, this isn’t uncommon in Lebanon. The abuse of dogs via violence and even poisoning is commonplace in the country. Before long, the little dog was on the mind – at first, though, there was not much hope. Andari’s friend decided to be the one to take responsibility of caring for the dog and nursing it back to health.

“She’s hyperactive. She always wants to play. She plays with two small dogs, and the dogs are sometimes annoyed by her because she has a lot of energy. She’s unbelievable — this dog,” Andari said. “She has an appetite for life. She wanted to live – I believe that.”

Fantastically, she appears to have made a full recovery and now lives with her friend in, what we hope, is peace and comfort. Such horrible acts simply cannot be treated with any other than the utter contempt that they deserve.

Firefighters Return ‘Dead Dog’ to Delighted Victim

When we are the victims of a disaster, we can be left with nothing material. No house, no items, nothing; all gone, and full dependent on an insurance claim paying out. While some items are more or less irreplaceable, others truly are unable to be replaced: like a pet, for example. When Adel Conley of Louisville, Kentucky, was going out to enjoy a New Year party, he was psyched.

However, his neighbours garage went up in flames and it spread to his home, forcing him to have to get out of dodge. He had to escape fast, and unfortunately both of his beloved dogs stayed behind. Despite trying to get back to save them, the fire was too severe and the fire team would not let him back on-site. A fireman soon emerged from the debris and the mess carrying one of his dogs.

While one of the dogs was saved, the other sadly perished in the flames, leaving poor Adel heartbroken. They told him that the chances of a dog surviving such an inferno was very unlikely – it left Adel not only distraught about losing everything, but devastated at the loss of a friend and a family member.

“I wanted to get my dogs out, but they wouldn’t let me go in there,” he explained in an interview afterward. “I love my dogs.”

Working through the remains of his house, though, the signs were very much not looking good. There was nothing that looked like it could have survived; large chunks of the property had been burnt to a crisp. As such, the debris was so excessive that the idea his other dog was inside and alive felt preposterous.

Lt Col Jim Fredrick of the Louisville FD, though, was quite clear about what this meant: “With the amount of fire we had and the amount you can see, just the amount of materials in that garage, it’s not really easily accessible for us.”

Miracles, though, do occur. The fire team could then hear small but audible noises coming from the debris, and they thought it might be the other dog.

As the firefighters kept rummaging through the debris, though, they came across something very much alive – it was the other dog! And not only was it him, but he was completely fine. A little shook-up and scared, but by no means hurt or otherwise adversely affected!

Without the hard work of the fireman, though, we would never have known that the little dog had survived. Well done to the Louisville FD; when you do a job as hard as this, survival is enough. Extra stories like this, though, shows you the work that they put in on a regular basis to help the public.

Heroic Women Save Trio of Dogs

For many people, dogs are an extension of our own families; the little comic relief who loves us unconditionally and will defend us to its death. They are the comic relief, the emotional support and the solution to offering you kindness and care when nobody else will. It is little wonder then that so many people are happy to help dogs even when it might put themselves in the line of danger.

Take this wonderful trio of mountain climbing dogs who were caught up high and unable to find a way back down. Facing certain death, they needed help or were going to be in a lot of trouble.

When dogs are domesticated, they tend to lose their sense of wild living and therefore can find it pretty damn tough to do the job that we would expect of them. In that case, it’s vital that we get them the help that they need when they are in need of assistance. When dogs get so used to us that they struggle in the wild, they need us to come calling and save the day!

Without consistent food, shelter and medical care a domesticated dog will find it very hard to make conscious decisions that could keep it safe. They simply lack the ability to survive in the wild as a wild dog would.

So, when the team at Hope for Paws, an LA-based animal rescue team, got called to head 8,000ft above sea love to help a trio of stranded dogs, they knew that they had to act. The organizational head of the team, Eldad Hagar, got a team out to Wrightwood, CA, in a bid to help the dogs as soon as they possibly could.

Other rescue teams had spent upwards of a week trying to save the dogs with little success, as the landscape and the natural threats in the area were beginning to prove majorly problematic. The trio of sisters were all trapped on the mountainside and had been for a while. Temperatures were soaring and the dogs needed helped ASAP.

While the dogs were very cautious about being helped at first, the team use their expertise to help find and then retrieve the dogs by winning their trust and then escaping with them as quickly as possible. If you watch the video, then you can get a brilliant insight into the kind of tactics that need to be deployed when you want to try and get a dog on-side.

It takes a lot of work, but it’s by no means impossible: with the help of people like Hope for Paws, we can feel safe knowing that dogs – wherever they may get stuck – can rely on someone to come along and help them out.

Parking Lot Dog Saved After Long Wait

When we see a dog in the street that isn’t owned by anyone – a stray – it’s common for our minds to wonder “what if….” – but most of the time we don’t. We leave them to it, not wanting the hassle of another mouth to feed. Animal rescuers and lovers, though, will also know how hard it can be for a stray to trust you – especially when they need help.

They usually need help as they were scorned before, so it’s only natural they will have their guard up. For Mary Murphy, though, her new dog came after quite a lot of coercing, charisma and charm. She found a dog abandoned in the Sams’s Club parking lot, Memphis, and couldn’t get close enough to help the howling hound out. It simply did not want to help; ever the empathetic type, though, Mary continued on.

She waited it out and made sure that the dog could see she was for real and meant what she was offering – and her reward is a companion for the rest of its life. Having spent over a week loitering around and howling for help, hoping that her previous owner would return, the dog began to lose any kind of hope or trust for the world around it.

When Mary first arrived, who works for Arrow Dog Rescue, she found the dog unable to be approached. It simply did not want to be around anyone – and it had lot trust, faith and belief in those who claimed to want to help it. As such, convincing it to change its mind was going to be hard work indeed.

Bringing over a little chair and a book, as well as a dog of her own, she sat down in the parking lot until he dog began to become a little more comfortable with her being there. It took her three and a half days of returning and hanging around until the dog was ready to ‘talk’ – it hopped into a crate in the back of her car and off they went.

Thanks to the help of her good friend, Jeff Guy, they got the dog – now called Samantha, by the way – to the home and ensured it could get a good night’s sleep. They took it to a vet for a check-up and then to the shelter. Despite being left alone, Samantha was in fine shape and was more than ready to take on the world head-first once again.

Posting the heart-warming tale on Facebook, they soon had all manner of offers wanting to come down and help Samantha find a new life. She lived short-term with a family they knew and trusted as they screened applicants to see who would be best-suited to caring for the dog.

She moved to a new home, was promptly renamed the awesome Crooner, and as far as we know is very happy at her new home where, hopefully, she’ll be part of the family forever!

CIA Dog Fails Bomb Training, Finds Alternative Role

When we hear of dogs working with the police, most of the time it is to be a sniffer dog – to help them sniff out bombs, drugs and all manner of dangerous items. However, dogs in the forces need to be at a very high level to ensure that they can be as useful for the forces as possible. Some pups, though, are just not made for the forces.

From bombs training to finding missing persons, dogs play such a huge role in law enforcement. The CIA provided an interesting update recently, on one of their October 2017 dogs who was going through its own training.

A few weeks into training, it became quite clear that she might not really be able to help the CIA with bombs sniffing. Lulu was a great dog, but she just seemed to lack the ability for this despite having a wide-reaching skill set. She never showed much aptitude or willingness for the role, so for that reason they wanted to move her on from the service. No matter what they tried, she just did not seem to be so into the bomb sniffing side of things.

Rather than just get rid of her or let her go, the CIA knew she had some really important skills – if they could find a good way to harness them. Removed from the K9 program, she was able to just go back to having a happy, friendly life.

Now, she spends her time just running around happy as larry in a back yard, helping the K9 trainer’ kids. Taken home by her own handler from the course, she now spends her days running around with rabbits, squirrels and another dog, having an absolutely wonderful time.

“We’ll miss Lulu,” the CIA tweeted. “But it was right decision for her and we wish her all the best in her new life!”

It’s nice to see that she still has a good use – helping keep the handler happy as she trains up the next generation of K9s!

The Most Delightful Dog Gets Adopted

When you look online or in magazines/newspapers and see the ‘Dogs for Adoption’ section, you usually find yourself just going “Awww!” at all the awesome photos. Some, though, have greater effect and eventually lead to us wanting to press ahead with the adoption. This is what happened to little Cheech, a dog from the Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue,  who stood out more than most.

A wonderful smile really stood out with the staff and, before long, his image had gone viral – everyone loved his beaming, happy, charming smile!

The shelter posted photos of him online, adding: “Busy day today… we got 3 adopted over the last week and a half. And we got 3 more in today alone. At least we got this guy in, he’s super sweet and knows how to smile when you ask him to.”

His comical and adorable smile immediately got people talking, and before long people were enquiring about how they could take Cheech home with them. Messages flooded in and they then had to choose between who they should let adopt him. With so many options to choose from, he was the most popular dog at the shelter!

They found him a home with a couple known as Carrie and Dusty. Having lost her Shepherd to cancer, Carrie and co. were looking for someone to help them fill that void in their lives. Dusty, their other dog, simply was not eating and was suffering from a deep, profound depression.

Happily, little Cheech now moved home and we are happy to report that Carrie and Dusty are very happy with their new friend for life.

Would you be able to say no to an adorable little face like that? I know for a fact that I most certainly couldn’t.

Night Vision Solves Mystery of Creative Pit Bull

When we go to bed at night, what our pets get up to is always a bit of a mystery. Sometimes they just sleep, other times they make their way into the wilderness and do something a little bit crazy. When the YouTube user autoedit decided to set up a night vision camera to check his Pi Bull’s late night activities,  he found that his dog had rather…odd behavior.

He discovered that his dog decided to wake him up in the most comical way in the mornings. While we all sometimes have a bit of trouble getting out of bed, for this one YouTuber his own way of getting up was rather different to say the least!

He realized the hard way that if you let your dog into the room in the morning, they’ll come in and make sure that you get up. They’ll lick away at you, run around and just flop all over you until you get up in the mornings and make sure you attend to their doggy needs!

The dog first appears in the video at just before 5AM, trying to look out of the curtains before being asked to leave it alone. After some nice begging, Grey agrees and walks off – like your own personal alarm dog with a snooze button.

Around 20 minutes later, she re-appears. She sits down beside the bed and just starts to make the most adorable whining noises. With a little bit of back and forth between pet and owner, Grey decided to leave and come back in a little while again…

20 minutes later again, she returns this time albeit a little more sheepishly having missed out beforehand. Shaking her collar, she decides that it’s time and hops up on top of her owner to get them out of bed to which they reluctantly agree.

While some might worry the dog was in need and was being neglected, it’s apparently just what she does and she has a dog door to get outside whenever she pleases. It’s just nice to see that clearly Grey loves her owner so much that she just wants them to get up and spend time with them!

Does your dog come with a snooze button?
