Celebrities Who Hilariously Trolled Their Fans

Trolling truly is an art form. Like any form of performance, a troll must stay in character throughout the charade until they reach their desired reaction from their intended audience. Celebrities who make livings entertaining audiences should theoretically be better at it than the rest of us.

Fortunately, some indeed do deliver on this promise in leaps and bounds as we’ll see. With the constant attention many film and television stars receive from the paparazzi, they have plenty of opportunities to practice their craft on the unsuspecting public.

Danny DeVito

A fan of Danny DeVito decided to take a cardboard cut-out of the veteran actor to her prom. We’re not getting into the details of why she thought this would be a good idea, only that she did it. The flower and the tie really bring it life, huh?

UPDATED: The Winners At The 70th Emmy Awards

UPDATE 18/09/2018: The list of winners at the 2018 Emmy Awards has now been added to the end of this post.

Predictions abound for the 70th iteration of the Emmy’s with several of television’s most celebrated shows set for a big night at the Television Academy Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 17, 2018.

“This year’s nominations continue to represent increased diversity and inclusion in front of the camera,” said Television Academy Chairman and CEO Hayma Washington. “And, there is a wealth of new and returning programs that reflect so many of today’s critical issues.”

Among all shows up for awards, Game Of Thrones has the most nominations (22) in all categories, followed by Saturday Night Live (21) and Westworld (21). Leading the nominations in totals by platform are Netflix (112), HBO (108) and NBC (78). With over a hundred awards on offer, we’ll take our pics among the contenders for the Drama Series category’s main awards.

Outstanding Drama Series

The award for the best drama series seems like a two horse raise between downtrodden handmaidens and the dragon-riding royalty of Westeros. With Game of Thrones famously absent from last year’s awards, the Handmaid’s Tale swooped in to collect the gong. This year, the two go head-to-head. Critics are predicting a win for the Hulu drama to repeat the feat again this year.

Lead Actor In A Drama Series

It looks to be a threepeat for actor Sterling K. Brown. The This Is Us star comes in having won consecutive awards for The People v. O.J. Simpson and This Is Us. With his fictional father, Ron Cephas Jones, winning the Guest-Actor award in a stunning upset this past weekend, it means voters have been paying attention to the storyline. Realistically, Brown’s main threat is his co-star and fictional adopted father, Milo Ventimiglia, who perhaps had a more emphatic role this past season.

Lead Actress In A Drama Series

Likewise, except a repeat for Elisabeth Moss to win this year’s gong. The Handmaid’s Tale star’s compelling portrayal in the series seems impossible to beat, with the show’s success due in large part to the star’s series-carrying performance. Having been overlooked for her past work on Mad Men, Moss is a shoe-in for this year’s award once again.

Supporting Actor In A Drama Series

Last year’s winner, John Lithgow for The Crown, isn’t in the running this year, which leaves the field wide open. Both Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage can consider themselves contenders for their roles on Game of Thrones. Dinklage already having two previous wins and Coster-Waldau being tasked with the season’s most poignant moments. However, Matt Smith for his perfectly petty and occasionally sympathetic portrayal as Prince Philip in The Crown is apparently tipped to win.

Supporting Actress In A Drama Series

The Handmaid’s Tale has three nominees this award, making up it a favorite to win this award. Interestingly the show has yet to lose an acting category in which it has been nominated. The real question is not if but who among its nominees will win. Samira Wiley was awarded this year’s Guest Actress award, just as Alexis Bedel, who won last year’s Guest Actress prize, is now a season regular and up for a Supporting Actress award. Ann Dowd and Yvonne Strahovski who also star in the show are nominated. Dowd might have been the early favorite, however, as the season progressed it was Strahovski who really stole the show, having previously worked on both Chuck and Dexter.

As for the Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series awards, there’s little to separate between Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale, and This Is Us.

“It’s been another record-breaking year with more than 9,100 entries in 122 unique categories for the initial nomination round of voting,” said Washington. “The continued growth of the industry has provided opportunities for acclaimed new programs to emerge while allowing last season’s break-through programs to thrive.”

Meek Mill Donates 6,000 Backpacks to His Hometown School District in Philadelphia

Meek Mill is giving back to his Philadelphia community just in time for the back-to-school season.

He didn’t have an easy childhood as together with his sister and mother were living in poverty after his dad was killed when he was just 5 years old.  Now after climbing out from the streets, he has decided to give something back to the community in order to help kids face the same life he did.

The 31-year-old rapper is donating 6,000 backpacks and school supplies to low-income students at 12 schools in the neighborhood.

“Growing up in Philly, I’ve watched families struggle to make ends meet and buy basic school supplies for their kids,” Meek Mill said in a statement.

“Those memories stay with me and that’s why I’m committed to giving back to families in my hometown, putting smiles on kids’ faces and helping them start the school year on the right note with the right supplies,” he continued.

The lyricist visited his alma mater, James G. Blaine Elementary School, to personally hand out the supplies to students on Wednesday.

“I’m also a native of North Philadelphia, so to have [Meek Mill] come back and be a model of what it is to work hard and make your dreams come true, as you can see, it’s exciting for the students,” Assistant Superintendent Amelia Coleman Brown told Philly.com. “It’s great motivation to start the school year.”

Watch: Dave Grohl On All Instruments In New Song “Play”

For many years Dave Grohl has led the Foo Fighters to thrill thousands of people in crowds and concerts all over the world. So it is news that he has released a spectacular video showing him performing an almost impossible feat playing seven musical instruments. The video which lasts for 23 minutes has gone viral with the fans of Foo Fighters flooding the comment section with accolades. The documentary which was directed by Grohl was shot in two parts; the aim was to show how much dedication he has put into making good music for the world.

The first part of the documentary shows Grohl behind the scenes talking about music and the efforts put into creating the sounds that the fans have come to like for many years. In the second part of the documentary, Grohl is seen playing seven instruments with so much expertise for 23 minutes. The show was recorded from different angles to enhance the experience, and the sound was particularly configured to promote the different unique sounds of the instruments that were played.

In the press release, it was noted that the project was more about showing the fans a peek into the background activities that create the music they love. It also attempts to express the passion of a musician and his attachment to musical instruments without which it will be impossible to create the amazing sounds they love. Grohl also speaks about the challenges they face behind the scenes and the efforts the band puts into making the music sound the way the audience expects every time.

Grohl’s spectacular performance features him playing an instrumental with the seven instruments on after the other. It was a revealing show that indicated all instruments could produce the sounds we want if only the user knows how they work. Grohl attributes his expertise with the instruments to the need for self-development which pushes musicians like him to put in more efforts in making good music.

To express his passion for music and playing the instruments, Grohl describes the instruments arranged on a stage like a playground where the instruments are the toys, and he is an excited child who cannot wait to start exploring the different sounds each instrument produces. While addressing the challenges, he encounters while making music Grohl compares the experience to a puzzle that you need to keep working on until it is solved.

The documentary titled “Play” has been released online to give the viewers an interactive opportunity to study Grohl’s performance using the seven instruments. It can also be downloaded for use by educational institutions where the documentary can be used to teach students learning about music.

Grohl did mention that the documentary was shot from different angles on purpose. It was done to increase the level of engagement the viewers can have while studying his expert use of the instruments. In our opinion, that was the best feature of the entire documentary.

Will POTUS Trump Lose His Hollywood Star?

For a celebrity, few things can be more damning to be told: losing your Hollywood Star. Easily one of the most important accolades that a celebrity can get, the fact that you can actually lose your star is a major kick in the teeth. Well, it looks like one person might be finally about to stand up to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in the most innocuous way: removing his Hollywood star.

While we suspect that the Teflon-infused POTUS will just laugh it all off and make some wild comments about it on Twitter, it’s nice to see the celebrity world take a bit of a stand for once. The celebrity world is loaded with a lack of fire when it comes to making a political message stand out, and it’s nice to see self-preservation take a back seat for a change.

The five-member West Hollywood City Council has apparently voted unanimously to have the star removed from the ground. While the council lacks the authority to do so itself, it intends to try and send out a formal message to Eric Garcetti, the Mayor of Los Angeles, to see if he’ll do something about it. They also messaged the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the key decision maker, and the Los Angeles City Council, to push for the star to be binned.

Citing all manner of reasons to remove the star, including “disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country,” it’s likely that this will fall on deaf ears.

According to John D’Amico, the West Hollywood Mayor, this isn’t to do with political affiliation, but that the star is an “honor” and that when one belittles and attacks minorities, immigrants, people with disabilities or women—the honor no longer exists.”

Turning Up the Heat

While such superficial battles won’t make one bit of difference in the long-run, it’s nice to see a bit of backlash against Trump. The Walk of Fame star that he has in Hollywood has already been the victim of vandals, and was even chipped away at by someone with a pickaxe. It’s also been spray-painted with Nazi imagery and various other profane stickers, so it might just be for the best to remove the star in the long run.

Given that other stars in the past have not been removed, though, it’s not likely to happen. According to ex-President and CEO f the Chamber, Leron Gubler, it’s not something to consider. Speaking in 2015 regarding the removal of Bill Cosby’s star, Gubler said: “once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

If that’s the case, expect this bit of drama to carry on for a good while yet.

Watch: Paul McCartney Crosses Abbey Road Again

There are a few photos in history that are set inside our collective memory, one of those photos is the iconic photo of the  The Beatles’ showing the quartet crossing Abbey Road. The Photo became the album’s cover and was taken just over a month before the LP’s release. The iconic album, Abbey Road, will turn 49 years old on Sept. 26.

This week Paul McCartney shared to his social media a video of himself crossing the street in the same demeanor to the applause of an onlooking crowd. He was on his way to the Abbey Road Studios for a surprise performance in support of his upcoming solo album, Egypt Station, which is due out on Sept. 7. Mary, Paul’s daughter, filmed the clip. You can watch it below.

The original Abbey Road photograph was taken on Aug. 8, 1969 by Iain Macmillan. In response to its legacy, Abbey Road Studios has launched a live stream that has continuously filmed the street since 2011.

Just like other Beatles albums Abbey Road was a monstrous success, selling over 4 million copies within the first two months of its release. It spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Albums chart. Since then it became a must own classic as of 2011, it had sold over 31 million copies worldwide.

Die Hard Wins Big Time (Finally)

With Die Hard being written off as a Christmas movie by John McClane himself, fans of the movie are naturally feeling their noses a touch out of joint. A classic Christmas movie for those who cannot stomach stuff like The Nightmare Before Christmas, it’s easy to see why so many people find it hard to agree with Bruce Willis in his assessment.

However, if you are feeling raw about this decision, you might be pleased to know that Die Hard was rated the best action movie of all-time recently. The likes of Lethal Weapon and Terminator gave it a good run for its money, of course. But, how can anything beat John McClane and his perma-white vest and cut-to-hell feet taking on some of the most maniacal Eastern Europeans you’ll likely see in cinema?

In the 80s and 90s, the sheer level of competition for such an accolade would have been suffocating. With the likes of Machete (albeit a comedy in many ways) and The Raid probably being the best modern equivalents, it’s easy to see why so many people are still dewy-eyed and nostalgic for the good old movies.

Thanks to the recent Entertainment Weekly vote, we can finally say that Mr. McClane and his jaunt through the Nakatomi Plaza to save everyone from having a rather ruinous festive period. Throw in the marriage dynamics, the awesome cat-and-mouse chase with the bad guys and his parlay with the coppers outside, and it’s easy to see why Die Hard remains such a fabled classic.

EW voted it the best action movie ever, and it was rated by Empire as the 29th best movie of all-time regardless of the genre. There are many reasons that many Die Hard one of the best action movies of the entertainment era, of course.

The plot is brilliant, the characters are awesome and the bad guy – Hans Gruber – might just be the best villain of all-time. Played by the amazing Alan Rickman (RIP), he manages to make sure that the movie has an edge to it where you worry that McClane might be up against it here.

What makes Die Hard so special?

From the amazing shoeless battles to the smart thinking of McClane to try and get the cops to notice the Plaza is in trouble, there are so many amazing things that take place in the movie. Really, given most action movies are absolute nonsense in terms of the plot, Die Hard stands out because it’s actually a good plot.

Is it mind that a man in a pair of slacks and no socks can wipe out a platoon of some of the worst terrorists in the world? Just a touch. Is his accuracy absolutely outstanding for someone who isn’t a military sniper? Yes, mightily.

Does Mr. Rickman provide us with the best example of someone with a command of multiple accents? You bet.

Die Hard is a special film. You don’t need me to tell you the plot: you just need to watch an 80s masterpiece at work. There’s a reason it’s voted as the best of its kind: it stands out far above anything else from the 80s, 90s or any other action movie era.

John McClane, take a bow: you managed to create an entire industry trying to match your amazing feats on the screen. From Speed to Air Force One through to things like The Expendables, it’s so easy to see where the inspiration come from: the super-durable vents of the Nakatomi Plaza.

Game of Thrones Just Broke Another Record

For some time now, Game of Thrones has been the biggest fantasy release in a decade. It comfortably matches – and in some ways beats – The Lord of the Rings in terms of its overall popularity. People who used to laugh at ‘Warcraft nerds’ are now engrossed in a fantasy collection made specifically for those very audiences. It’s great to see that we’re moving away from a world whereby people who like fantasy stuff are considered nerds – but I digress.

GoT, then, has managed to create a world whereby more or less everyone can enjoy fantasy without feeling uncomfortable. It’s part of the reasons why it has become such a record breaker: people from all backgrounds love the show!

Well, that popularity was proven in the most silent but significant of ways. How so? Because it picked up a whopping 22 Emmy nominations. That’s a record for a TV show or any program and immediately shines a light on the massive popularity of this incredible TV show.

Part of the reason why it is so immensely popular is the fact that it just has so much depth to the characters. With so many people taking part, there’s a character for everyone to fall in love with should they so choose. One of the Emmy’s that it was put forward for, though, is a genuine history-maker – something increasingly rare in the showbiz world.

It all comes down to the work of Peter Dinklage. He was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and is now the actor to have the most nominations for that particular part of the Emmy awards. That’s hugely impressive. He’s been nominated for that role in every series of Game of Thrones – seven in total. That beats the likes of Bruce Weitz and Will Geer, who were all nominated for it six times in the past.

Winning the Emmy in 2011 for the first season, he also won it in 2015 and is the only actor who has won an Emmy award for their work in Game of Thrones. However, he’s not the only nominee. For example, Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau were both nominated for roles as well.

While some people might not be a huge fan of the show, even its biggest detractors can do a lot of work to really bring the show together in style.

Jurassic-Sized Statue of Jeff Goldblum Just Appeared in London

This year is the 25th year anniversary of the movie Jurrasic Park, one of the most beloved films of all time.  NowTV, a telecommunications company from the UK have found a very special way to celebrate this occasion.

The company has commissioned A 25ft statue of a shirtless Jeff Goldblum who seemed to appear out of nowhere in front of Tower Bridge in London.

The statue is situated in Potters Fields and sees the actor lying on his side with his shirt open – reflecting one of the film’s most famous scenes that became a huge internet meme since then.

NowTV also confirmed on their twitter page,  that the statue weighs a staggering 150kg – equivalent to 48,000 teabags.

Goldblum recently reprised the role of the beloved scientist and chaos theory expert in this summer’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom — which, unfortunately, does not have any scene that even came close to show us Jeff Goldblum in all of his glory.

Luckily we now have this masterpiece to remind us of this, and maybe it will soon be gone but it will stay on the internet forever.

If you need any reminder of this favorite scene here is the man himself breaking it down to IGN a few months ago:

Scarlett Johansson Responds to Trans Backlash [Updated]

!!Update!!

Scarlett Johansson announced today that she decided to leave the part. Here is her official statement:

“In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project. Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive. I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood continues. According to GLAAD, LGBTQ+ characters dropped 40% in 2017 from the previous year, with no representation of trans characters in any major studio release. While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante’s story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person, and I am thankful that this casting debate, albeit controversial, has sparked a larger conversation about diversity and representation in film. I believe that all artists should be considered equally and fairly. My production company, These Pictures, actively pursues projects that both entertain and push boundaries. We look forward to working with every community to bring these most poignant and important stories to audiences worldwide”

GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis issued a separate statement, in response to Johansson’s decision to step down from Rub & Tug (per Variety):

“Scarlett Johansson’s announcement, together with the transgender voices who spoke out about this film, are game changers for the future of transgender images in Hollywood. Hollywood changed how Americans understand gay and lesbian lives, and TV is starting to do the same for transgender people with authentic transgender portrayals being major hits with critics and audiences. The film industry has a real opportunity to do the same.

The original article follows:

As one of the most popular and easily recognized actresses on the planet, Scarlett Johansson is no doubt full of interesting offers. Someone of her talents attracts a certain style of movie, and that has been the case for the longest time. However, part of the criticism that often comes her way is just that: she has taken on so many different kinds of roles.

That might seem an odd critique of an actress. However, it’s the fact that Johansson has taken on so many roles in recent times that would be far more suitable for someone else. Take Ghost in the Shell, for example, much critique was sent her way due to being a poor representation of the character she played.

Part of the new problem, though, is her take on Dante Gill in Rub & Tug. This interesting mob drama is one that should be worth your time looking into, but the fact that Johansson will play a trans male in the movie. Given that she ‘whitewashed’ her character in Ghost in the Shell, this repeat of the same controversy has many people asking: just what roles are left for people who are actually suited to it?

According to April Reign, one of the people behind the #OscarsSoWhite campaign, the problem is this: “Scarlett Johansson received considerable backlash for Ghost in the Shell, when she played a whitewashed Asian character. The movie tanked. Undeterred, she has teamed up WITH THE SAME DIRECTOR to play a trans male character in Rub & Tug.”

Sadly, given the opportunity to speak about why she felt she was the right choice for the role, Johansson done nothing of the sort. Instead, she responded by saying about complaints: “Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment.”

Two strikes and out?

After playing Major Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell, this latest controversy merely adds another layer to the argument. After being seen to ‘whitewash’ a role made for an Asian, she’s now seen as someone who is going to ‘transface’ another key role. It’s all a very challenging act to balance out: directors want actors and actresses that the whole work knows.

This means often putting stars into roles they should probably have avoided. Appropriation is a very big topic at present, and this is only sure to help fuel the fire even further. Some people, though, hope that the backlash here will help them to further explain to others why they feel so strongly about this particular train of thought: and why they want to do more to help avoid appropriation in such stark terms.

What do you think? Should she have got the role? Could the role have been used to launch the career of a trans artist, instead?
