New Found Dinosaur Species Named After Marvel’s Thanos

Any Comic book  fan knows who Thanos is, he was always quite a big deal within the Marvel lore but unlike other Marvel characters that broke out into the mainstream in the last two decades, Thanos remained in the shadow for a while. All of that off course changed when Infinity War came along and showed what a great character he really is. Now that Josh Brolin’s portrayal of the  the Mad Titan made him a household name all across the world, Thanos receives a huge honor from the scientific community as he now has a dinosaur named after him. Yeah, you read that right  Thanos is now the name of a newly-discovered species of dinosaurs.

The species which is called the Thanos simonattoi —was a carnivorous dinosaur that resided in Brazil during the later part of Cretaceous Period around 145 million years ago. The announcement of the new dinosaur discovery first came in Historical Biology, a journal first published online on November 16, 2018.

“In the present contribution, we describe a new abelisaurid (Thanos simonattoi, gen. et sp. nov.) from the São José do Rio Preto Formation, Bauru Group, Brazil (Upper Cretaceous). Thanos differs from other theropods by having a well-developed keel becoming wider and deeper posteriorly on the ventral surface; two lateral small foramina separated by a relative wide wall on each lateral surface of the centrum, and well-developed and deep prezygapophyseal spinodiapophyseal fossae.”

It is still unknown what the future holds for the character in the the MCU, Brolin is set to reprise his role as Thanos once again in next year’s Avengers 4, but that might not because of the last time according to the actor. If he has his way, Brolin would appear in more Marvel Cinematic Universe movies in the near future.

“You know what, I don’t know what the future brings and who knows, but [I] love the idea of something infinite like this,” Brolin told ScreenRant. “I’ve never been involved in sequels. The fact that we’ve done some of Avengers 2, oh sorry, Avengers 4 but Infinity War 2, I’m going back. I’m going to do more, and we’re going to do some re-shoots and all that. So, I’m excited about all that. I love the Russos. I love working on the Avengers. I didn’t think I was going to and I actually loved it. I didn’t even like it. I loved it.”

The Original Avengers Actors Pay Tribute to Stan Lee

The stars and crew of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continue to show love and tribute to Stan Lee following the Marvel Comics creator’s death earlier this week. News of the Marvel legend’s death broke on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, whe he had been rushed to the hospital early that morning, before passing away. He was 95 years old.

While the original six Avengers actors all made tributes to Lee on Twitter following the news of his passing, they have decided to assemble yet again now honoring Lee’s legacy with a full-page magazine ad.

The full-page ad taken out by the original six Avengers appeared in this week issue of The Hollywood Reporter, along with five other full-page ads honoring Stan Lee. Signed by Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans, the tribute to Stan Lee is set against the logo of the Avengers in gray. The ad was revealed by THR’s editor on Twitter.

Lee, of course, was part of the MCU not just in spirit as he had a cameo in every film and TV show in the franchise. In fact, we will probably see Lee on screen several more times: He filmed cameos for Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, and may have filmed others. It will be interesting to see how his absence affects the universe in the future.

Amazing ‘Avengers 4’ Fan-Made Cartoon

As The Avengers has grown to be among the biggest and most successful IPs of a generation, it’s no surprise to see fans want more. As ever with such huge franchises, the minute a title is released the fans want to see even more stuff come out. With much talk of the fourth Avengers movie, though, one fan has created a pretty impressive fan-made video that will get you pretty hyped for the real thing when it finally arrives.

With news of the first footage floating around the Marvel fan forums and the like, there’s a lot of speculation about what it might involve. One fan, though, has gone from talking about it on a forum to making his own fan trailer. It’s really impressive, and really does a good job of making the series look even better.

While rumored trailer descriptions are flying around, Spectrum Cinema, a popular YouTube channel has created a stylish animated trailer that depicts what the rumored script is supposed to be. Despite the fact it’s made more or less entirely by a fan, it’s very impressive indeed. The trailer, named Avengers: Annihilation, has some rather janky animation at times but it is really impressive for a fan-made effort.

It’s pretty macabre, in truth, but it’s very impressive in the way that it plays out. Given it’s pulling on what we can only call strange sources, too, it’s easy to forgive the more creative parts of the writing and animation. We won’t spoil much of the trailer for you, but you do see some finished Avengers, and also a ruined world after the events of Infinity War. It’s all quite grim, really.

Excited yet?

However, the trailer itself is a great piece of work and is sure to whet the appetite for what is to come in the future. We don’t want to sit and critique amateur animation, though, but the voice acting could … use some work. Fair play to them for trying, though: it’s definitely got Marvel fans talking anyway and it will play a big role in getting people hyped up for the big fourth movie to come.

It’s expected that we’ll see the trailer for the fourth edition – the real trailer – come out before the end of the year. As ever, though, this is mostly just speculation. We’ll find out as time goes on what is going to take place, but safe to say it’s going to be quite interesting anyway.

If you want to get in the mood for a big release from Marvel, then why not take a look at the fan trailer?

As outlandish as it might be, it’s a sterling effort and will definitely put you in the mind for another blockbuster involving Tony Stark and co.

Avengers Set to Break Records

While some people (myself included, to an extent) are getting a little sick of the Marvel movies that seem to be released every second week, the new Avengers movie, Infinity War, looks to be a good one. Well, you would hope so anyway – given the incredible cost of the movie it’ll need to live up to the ridiculous hype surrounding it.

With as long as a decade needed to get to this point in the story, it’s absolutely right that this feels like the flagship end to what has been a remarkable (at point tedious) journey. With the fact that the likes of Captain America: Civil War cost a whopping $250m, and Age of Ultron at around $279m, there’s a bit of a discussion going around about how much is too much to make a movie.

Well, it would appear that at the moment this might break all records that are going around at the moment. Indeed, at the moment, Infinity War is expected to become the most significant movie of all time if you just go by the cost of it. Given the fact that this is the culmination of 18 movies and spin-offs and it carries one of the most star-studded casings we’ve ever seen, the cost kind of makes sense.

When you find out that MCU (Marvel Comic Universe), the group behind it, is worth an incredible $14bn, it’s easy to see why they can afford to take this kind of ‘risk’ and go for broke.

What’s The Damage?

According to the budgetary news we’ve heard from the likes of the Wall Street Journal, there’ around $300m on the table for IW. That’s a dizzying amount of cash, tying up with the likes of the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End as a record production budget. The only movie that we could find that went beyond this was another PotC installment, Of Stranger Tides.

However, when you add in that Avengers 4 (working title obviously) was shot back-to-back with Infinity War, it’s likely that it could actually peak the OST costing.

However, the fact that it is already likely to be among the highest ever box office sales of all-time, it’s not actually that big a risk for MCU. Add in the fact that it was already expected to take around $255m in its opening weekend, meaning that it could even eclipse the incredible $247.9m brought in by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.

Indeed, it was also reported by the likes of Fandango that this was breaking some truly special records, with it out-selling the past seven movies in the Marvel Comic Universe COMBINED. With ticket sales already seemingly beyond double what Black Panther produced, too, this is sure to be a major pay-off for MCU.

With the premiere held on the 23rd April, we’re not far off seeing the release and making a huge impact on the movie industry. With all that waiting, then, will Infinity War live up to the hype?

If somehow you still hadn’t checked the trailer here it is:

Get Your Popcorn Ready for these Hit Shows in the Big Screens

New versions of “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Wonder Woman” are some of the potential blockbusters that are going to break records in theaters this year. But maybe the biggest news yet is that one TV show will be coming on big screens in the first week of September this year. The reason for this is that Marvel Television and ABC Television recently partnered with the giant movie screen company Imax Corp. The upcoming superhero series Inhumans will first be available in cinemas even a couple of weeks before it comes to homes and our little screens.

This could be the biggest and the boldest move yet because shows for the small screen and movies for the big screen already have some fuzzy lines between them. There is a pretty big wave of critical prestige that TV is enjoying. Movies used to have a cultural cachet that has now been taken over by the television screen. Featuring some of the biggest stars, Netflix’s “The Crown” and HBO’s “Westworld” look fairly expensive and seems to be a big budget movie. Ted Mundorff, chief executive of Landmark Theatres said: “Production values are fabulous on the small screen right now, so they translate to the large screen. If you want to see ‘Game of Thrones’ on the big screen, that’s pretty awesome.”

In the age where entertainment options at home are growing, both of these industries are having big challenges when it comes to the battle for audience’s attention. This comes at a time when TV is having a big push.

In the middle of a glut of original programs that have high quality, television companies are trying to find some ways to build hype around their new shows. Over 500 scripted shows are being prepared for this year for streaming services and TV. Cable network FX has estimated that it is about 200 less than in 2015.

Because the box office is becoming highly unpredictable, theater owners are hoping to diversify their businesses and are trying to fill their seats during the slow periods like the autumn months. In Imax, they really don’t like these gaps in the release schedule because they almost entirely rely on the major studios and their big spectacle movies. At the time when Inhumans will have its debut, the only potential blockbuster following it is the horror remake It by Warner Bros. Imax has around 1,200 theaters and they can’t say for sure how many of them will play Inhumans, but as it is expected, it will push for a worldwide release. Benjamin Mogil, an entertainment industry analyst with the financial services firm Stifel said: “The push Imax is making with Marvel for ‘Inhumans’ is indicative of a need to push out to content beyond movies.”

When auditoriums tend to go empty, theater owners played alternative programming like concerts, opera and sports such as professional basketball and football. This has been going on for several years now. But when that wasn’t enough, they expanded to include entertainment like major news events and competitive video gaming.

After the success of bringing popular small-screen shows to the multiplex, executives of big theater chains are looking forward to more TV shows that will come to their big screens. There are some shows that already appeared in cinemas like BBC’s Doctor Who and Sherlock andalso HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Most powerful Hollywood franchises

With the advance of the 3d technology, the characters became the new movie stars. But, starting the franchise would be the new coin of the Hollywood realm. Movie studios flourish or disappear by how many franchises they have in their pocket. All these characters that come from the pure fiction have their golden age running for decades, and they doesn’t seem to get boring. The reason is that there’s a always a new generation eager to get to know these fictive worlds.

  1. Marvel Cinematic Universe

It’s a $9.3 billion company with 13 movies so far. Some of Marvel characters like Captain America, Iron Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy will not go to oblivion, as the company made the plan to make movies till at least 2020. The strength of this studio is the inexhaustible recourse of comic based adventures and the hunger of new generations of kids, ready to fall in love with this style of movies. The weakness would be replacing the star. Nobody knows how will the audience respond to a new Tony Stark. At some point, making Marvel’s actors will eventually become too expensive.

  1. Star Wars

It’s a $6.7 billion franchise with 8 movies so far. After taking over for George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy has changed the Lucasfilm, having a new purpose. It is to release “Star Wars” movie every single year in the future. As “The Force Awakens” confirmed its bond between the audience and Luke, Leia and Han, there’s no fear that the people won’t show up for ecah new film. The strength of this franchise is that multi-generational appeal and a proven merchandising muscle. The main weakness is that nostalgia-driven success, that raises a question “How long can this looking backward gonna work?”

  1. James Bond

It’s a $5 billion franchise with amazing 25 movies so far. There are not many franchises that can survive Roger Moore’s leisure suits. It started in 1962 and broke attendance records with Daniel Craig’s outings recently. So, there’s no reason to think that Mr. Bond will ever stop going to his missions. The strength of this one is the constant freshening of actors in the lead role, so the return is always a possibility. The weakness is the lack of definition of who and what 007 actually is. It’s time for some updates.

  1. Harry Potter

It’s a $7.7 billion franchise with 8 films made. The original books of Harry Potter were really massive just like the movies. Possible above-the-line capacity doesn’t really need to work again, if the consumer doesn’t want to. The strength is hidden in that continuous gain of the new audience with books and the hunger for Rowling’s characters doesn’t stop. It is also important that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at two Universal Studios theme parks gives the opportunity to the fans to buy everything Hogwarts. The weakness of this one is the unclear future of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, when we’re talking about the audience feedback.
