MoneyBall: 2018 World Cup Winner to Get $38 Million

The bar has been raised for this year’s world cup football tournament currently holding in Russia. The winner of the tournament will be walking away with $38 million. This figure is noticeably higher than the award handed over to Germany when it won the tournament three years ago.

FIFA announced that the total funds set aside for this tournament were $400 million, from this purse, the winning national team will be rewarded for their hard work and victory. Other participating countries are also expected to receive about $8 million each to cover costs incurred during this tournament. The national team that comes second during this football tournament will also receive $28 million. While the third and fourth national teams will get $24 and $22 million for their achievements.

From all indications, these rewards have been increased from the amounts paid three years ago. Every team gets something for their efforts as usual. The funds have been provided by FIFA from the revenues generated by the World Cup organizing body. In total, it is expected that the revenue will exceed $5 billion even with the minor setbacks experienced during the sales of sponsorships due to the investigations into corruption charges.

This was confirmed by the FIFA President Gianni Infantino who in a statement affirmed that the revenue is expected to be more than expected from the current financial projections.

It will also be recalled that about $100 million is still inaccessible from the previous world cup tournament held in Brazil. This money is disputed in the midst of some corruption charges still being investigated. The money in dispute would have been used to redeem pledges made by FIFA to promote grassroots football and women’s football as well as healthcare and the provision of social amenities in poor communities within Brazil.

In view of preventing disputes and fraudulent practices, Infantino has confirmed that funds will now be handled separately by a new organization that will also be in charge of handling the funding for projects to be done under his leadership.

FIFA has also made plans to acknowledge the winning team of the Intercontinental Cup which has been organized from 1960 to 2004. It is a competition between the champions of the European Cup and the Copa Libertadores. In 2005, the Intercontinental Cup was rebranded to become the Club World Cup which involved all continental champions. The next edition will be held in Abu Dhabi in 2018.

Infantino has however hinted that there are plans to review the Club World Cup to replace the Confederation Cup which is scheduled to hold in 2021. With these on-going plans, we expect to have a wonderful world cup tournament which has already started on an exciting note with the host country Russia winning their world cup game.

The Long Hollywood Tradition Between Mega Directors

With Avengers: Infinity War beginning to clean up at the box office, it’s no surprise that it’s been a major showbiz talking point. More importantly, though, it’s become a movie franchise so big that it smashed the likes of Star Wars. With the 19th and arguably best edition of the Marvel Cinematic Universe taking in as much as $640m worldwide, it’s become a major hit across the globe. Indeed, it even blows away “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which hit around $529m worldwide.

As impressive as these figures are, more impressive is the fact that it’s allowed us to peek behind the Hollywood curtain for a moment. With both MCU and the masters at Lucasfilm both under the Disney banner today, it’s no surprise that this little tidbit has come out in the public. Lucasfilm’ President, Kathleen Kennedy, sent a wonderfully gracious note to Marvel to congratulate their achievement, completed with Rey passing over a lightsabre to Iron Man in celebration.

Indeed, this has apparently been a widespread Hollywood tradition. It started with George Lucas the old “Star Wars” director and his mate Steven Spielberg. Starting in 1977 when Spielberg used a full-page Variety advertisement to congratulate Lucas’ on Star Wars beating “Jaws” at the Box Office. It showed R2-D2, the lovable Star Wars droid, catching Jaws himself on his fishing hook.

Since then, we’ve seen some truly special ones come from both groups. For example, when “E.T.” became the superb hit that it was, Lucas responded with an ad of some of Star War’ main heroes lifting E.T. up into the air with a #1 sign.

This also happened in the 1990s, with ET passing on the crown to R2D2 When The prequels proved that Star Wars was here to stay.

Next time happened when James Cameron’ Titanic beat Star Wars. Gorge printed an add in the papers. It is actually the most elaborate one ever showing almost all of the Star Wars characters going down with the ship.

Later on, the Box Office crown went to another Cameron production – Avatar. So it was no surprise that he didn’t do anything then. But he did disappoint when Marvel’s The Avengers took the crown and didn’t post anything (He is known as someone who doesn’t like superhero films).

Good thing Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios is a good sport and decided to revive the tradition when Jurrasic World suppressed the Avengers in 2015 by a mere million dollars. This time though the tradition moved from the pages of the newspapers straight to social media.

Of course, Universal didn’t stay quiet when Star Wars took the crown for the third time, this time shattering the previous record by a staggering 40 million. The poster shows T-rex putting a gold medal on BB-8. Whats nice about it is also the fact that Steven Spielberg that began this tradition, was part of the congratulating team.

Nice to see the biggest directors out there congratulating each other and making Hollywood a friendlier place.

Avengers Set to Break Records

While some people (myself included, to an extent) are getting a little sick of the Marvel movies that seem to be released every second week, the new Avengers movie, Infinity War, looks to be a good one. Well, you would hope so anyway – given the incredible cost of the movie it’ll need to live up to the ridiculous hype surrounding it.

With as long as a decade needed to get to this point in the story, it’s absolutely right that this feels like the flagship end to what has been a remarkable (at point tedious) journey. With the fact that the likes of Captain America: Civil War cost a whopping $250m, and Age of Ultron at around $279m, there’s a bit of a discussion going around about how much is too much to make a movie.

Well, it would appear that at the moment this might break all records that are going around at the moment. Indeed, at the moment, Infinity War is expected to become the most significant movie of all time if you just go by the cost of it. Given the fact that this is the culmination of 18 movies and spin-offs and it carries one of the most star-studded casings we’ve ever seen, the cost kind of makes sense.

When you find out that MCU (Marvel Comic Universe), the group behind it, is worth an incredible $14bn, it’s easy to see why they can afford to take this kind of ‘risk’ and go for broke.

What’s The Damage?

According to the budgetary news we’ve heard from the likes of the Wall Street Journal, there’ around $300m on the table for IW. That’s a dizzying amount of cash, tying up with the likes of the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End as a record production budget. The only movie that we could find that went beyond this was another PotC installment, Of Stranger Tides.

However, when you add in that Avengers 4 (working title obviously) was shot back-to-back with Infinity War, it’s likely that it could actually peak the OST costing.

However, the fact that it is already likely to be among the highest ever box office sales of all-time, it’s not actually that big a risk for MCU. Add in the fact that it was already expected to take around $255m in its opening weekend, meaning that it could even eclipse the incredible $247.9m brought in by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.

Indeed, it was also reported by the likes of Fandango that this was breaking some truly special records, with it out-selling the past seven movies in the Marvel Comic Universe COMBINED. With ticket sales already seemingly beyond double what Black Panther produced, too, this is sure to be a major pay-off for MCU.

With the premiere held on the 23rd April, we’re not far off seeing the release and making a huge impact on the movie industry. With all that waiting, then, will Infinity War live up to the hype?

If somehow you still hadn’t checked the trailer here it is:

Beyonce Breaks YouTube Viewing Records With Cochella Preformance

As one of the most celebrated artists of her generation, Beyonce is a major hit for all manner of reasons. However, it’s down to her complete self-belief in herself and her ease in which she presents herself to the world that makes her such a magnetic personality.

It’s no surprise, then, that her Coachella 2018 performance was immediately seen as a stand-out moment of the whole festival.

Her major event at Coachella was dubbed before it even started as a musical act for the ages. Well, it would appear that all the bombast and hype has been worth it; Beyonce certainly made the most of her massive stage.

Indeed, it’s been one of the most impressive YouTube performers of all-time. Ever since they started to allow live streams on-site, YouTube has seen a new number of records set for live viewing people tuning in.

Well, according to the press, her Coachella 2018 performance brought in a massive 41m live views across over 200 nations. That’s a truly spectacular number of people tuning in, with her Saturday event being one of the most respected and celebrated of her career so far. Not exactly shy of breaking records anyway, this is just yet another one to add to her growing list of trophies.

As the most viewed live musical festival ever already, Coachella’ major events like this one have gone down a major hit. The bombast, the charisma and the entire energy of the whole performance made a huge splash in the industry. However, there are more records that have been broken here at Coachella – including a very important barrier.

For anyone who even has a cursory grasp of modern politics, the inequality across America is immediately apparent. So, the fact that Beyonce became the first black woman to ever headline Coachella in it’s close to two decades of existence is a major landmark in itself. Not content with constantly setting new records and targets with her performances on-stage and online, Beyonce now has opened the floor – quite literally – to artists who previously would have been ignored.

As ever, Beyonce was very magnanimous about this, thanking Coachella for letting her be the first before listing off a large group of people who came before her that paved the way for her own success.

The whole show was a major celebration of everything from black history and pride in culture to education, creating a very powerful message that was definitely felt around the world. Indeed, she performed with a massive 200-person Historically Black College and University (HBCU) group throughout the show.

She even quoted the likes of Malcolm X, and also sang the “Black National Anthem” in Lift Every Voice and Sing. While many celebrities are happy to sit in the background and make very generic and dull comments about modern politics, Beyonce has used her platform for many good causes in the past.

This latest experience is just another example that she breaks the mold of the modern celebrity in some style.

When Should I book a Domestic Flight?

Flight fares are known to fluctuate due to many reasons. Higher demand for tickets can influence the rate at which it is sold at that particular time. There are also situations when the airline needs to sell out its tickets for the fast approaching flight schedule. In such a situation, it might be compelled to significantly reduce the flight fares in view of encouraging the public who wish to visit the flight destinations during that period.

The festive seasons and holidays are also periods when flight fares are quite high. Knowing the best time to get a good deal will require a careful study of the trends. However, some flight booking agencies have suggested the best time to get good deals.

Many suggestions projected by flight booking agencies and related online blogs suggest that the best flight deals are usually available at least 70 days before the departure date. Some frequent travelers have disputed this claim as merely a coincidence, while other reports have indicated that the best deals can be found at least 120 days before the departure date.

These assumptions may not influence the flight fares for some travel destinations that record high traffic such as tourist destinations. From these projections, it can be safe to assume that booking for your domestic flight well ahead of the planned date of departure can help you find some very cheap flight deals.

How much can we save?

On the average, you may be able to save about $200 or even more on flight deals. Your savings will depend on the location and how good the deal is at that time. Some flight destinations are known to feature very cheap deals, and the price goes even lower when there is a discount offer. Overall, finding the best fight deals may require some planning and daily analysis. If you have the time for this exercise, then you may just be flying at extremely low rates.

Checking the flight details daily, randomly entering in dates from 120 days to 21 days before your departure can reveal unbelievable flight rates. And you will also notice that on some days, the flight fares were significantly higher than other days. For example, booking for domestic flights anytime between 169-319 days may reveal higher flight fares with an addition of over $50, while booking very close to the departure date will reveal flight fares that may be higher by as much as $200.

Best days of the week

It is widely propagated that booking domestic flights on Tuesdays is the best option for everyone who wishes to enjoy lower flight fares. This makes some sense, Tuesdays are low traffic days, and the airlines need to make money.

However, other reports have indicated that Wednesdays are the best days to book domestic flights while Sundays are the most expensive days on domestic routes.
From these speculations, you can benefit by considering all these options. Some travelers must have noticed cheaper rates on Tuesdays to claim it is the best day to book domestic flights due to cheaper fares, same as Wednesday.

The claim that Sunday flight bookings are more expensive makes logical sense too. As earlier mentioned, you can start planning to get your cheaper flight bookings with the following information. Start checking for cheaper domestic flight fares at least 120 days to the departure date, and search for flight bookings on days such as Tuesday and Wednesday for the best results.

Flight fares are known to fluctuate due to many reasons. Higher demand for tickets can influence the rate at which it is sold at that particular time. There are also situations when the airline needs to sell out its tickets for the fast approaching flight...

Chris Brown is About to Face Bankruptcy

We all know that Chris Brown is a big spender. His ex-manager said that his reckless spending habits will soon dry out his bank accounts and that he is getting too close to bankruptcy. If he doesn’t act quickly, a financial disaster could come even this year.

Michael Guirguis, Chris’s former manager, testified on the court that the star is spending an enormous amount of his money and that it is way beyond his means. He also said that at this pace, Chris won’t be able to get out of this situation and that his bankruptcy is inevitable.

Court paperwork is saying that the biggest problem is that Brown is spending more than he is earning by far. If you combine that with his unpaid bills and debt that is getting bigger and bigger, a major financial disaster doesn’t seem that weird.

His manager Michael Guirguis, who in the business world goes by “Mike G”, has seen these large amounts of money being spent with his own eyes. On December 22nd, Guirguis outlined Brown’s great amount of unpaid debt and his serious spending habits in a sworn statement for LA Superior Court.

“Brown’s Spending Habits and Solvency” is the title of one section of Guirguis’s testimony where he explains some aspects of Brown’s finances. The testimony says:” I have worked with Brown since 2012 and have witnessed firsthand Brown’s lavish spending habits. For example, Brown’s music video shoots often have exceeded his record label’s budget and Brown has paid out-of-pocket for the additional costs. These were, at times, six-figure overages.”

Brown also has a private jet and when it comes to traveling, the only transportation vehicle is that jet. Guirguis said:”Brown also travels on private jets domestically and internationally, and spends anywhere from $50,000 to $200,000 per trip.  He pays for this himself.” Another interesting fact is that Drai’s Nightclub in Las Vegas, who paid Brown almost 3 million dollars a year, fired him in July 2016 for unprofessional and violent behavior. This was just one of Brown’s self-destructing and self- sabotaging acts. On that matter, Guirguis stated in the testimony:”In July 2016, Brown was fired from his Las Vegas residency at Drai’s Nightclub.  Drai’s had paid Brown approximately $3 million a year.  Prior to terminating Brown, Drai’s Management Group, LLC had sent a letter warning Brown about his behavior.” Should we say that this gig was easy millions?

Guirguis gave the testimony because NiteVision, his management team, and he are suing Chris Brown after a violent argument between them. To make it short, after a disagreement, Brown attacked Guirguis, and the result was a break-up and subsequent lawsuit. Guirguis has a concern that if he wins at this court, Brown won’t be able to pay after all. We are talking millions in damages. Guirguis said:”As NiteVision’s chief executive officer, I am concerned about Brown’s future solvency and his inability to satisfy a judgment in NiteVision’s favor.  NiteVision will suffer great or irreparable injury if Brown is allowed to continue dissipating funds that are unlikely to be replenished through new sources of income.”

Chris Brown is not the only musician who managed to spend all of his money and drive himself to bankruptcy. Among many others, that list includes Toni Braxton, DMX, Lauryn Hill, Scott Storch, Rick Ross and 50 Cent.

LA Superior Court will proceed with a trial against Chris Brown on March 7th.
