Consensus: Die Hard IS a Christmas Movie

For years fans, cast and crew have been debating if Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not. Now, Fox is finally settling that age-old debate.

The studio that owns the movie is getting into the act, The new, 90-second trailer (promoting the film’s 30th-anniversary edition on Blu-ray) is chock full of holiday tropes. It’s got an upbeat John Hughes-y narrator, Yuletide music, and lots of explosions and death. Happy holidays!

Accompany the trailer is a new synopsis that should get you into the Holiday spirits:

“Facing Christmas 3,000 miles from his estranged wife and two children, New York policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) flies to Los Angeles bearing presents and hoping to patch up his marriage. Stylish and cool Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) is in Los Angeles as well for the holiday season, but he’s not there to give out presents.

He’s there to take: more than $600 million in negotiable bearer bonds from the multinational Nakatomi Corporation, where McClane’s wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) is an executive. When the takeover becomes hostile, it’s up to John McClane to take on the terrorists with all the grit and determination he can muster–but not without a sense of humor.”

Although Willis himself said, “‘Die Hard’ is not a Christmas movie, it’s a goddamn Bruce Willis movie!” at his Comedy Central roast in July, this trailer is sure to make you a believer.

Check Out New Christmas Movies on Netflix

Netflix has scheduled four amazing Christmas movies for you this holiday. These picks are nice, and they will be helpful if you find it hard to make a choice like I sometimes do.

I am sure movie producers find it hard to make Christmas classics because of the high expectations. While some of the Christmas movies have been a hit in the box office, others were forgotten after a while. However, these storylines may be adapted many years later and remade into new movies.

We are happy Netflix has decided to make a move to preserve our favorite Christmas movies. The streaming platform has repeatedly selected some of the amazing Christmas movies with engaging storylines to be featured at the end of the year. This approach makes the Netflix platform a wonderful addition to every family’s screen entertainment plan during the holidays. The movies Netflix chooses to show are free from obscene language; they also do not advertise unhealthy living options or show people drinking alcoholic beverages.

The Christmas movies are also not so serious. The scenes are somewhat comedic, which can make the viewers laugh and have a great time. They can also be used to set the mood during holiday parties. While Netflix has made this move to give its subscribers awesome Christmas movie options this season, the selection has been made to feature movies many people may not be willing to pay and watch at the cinemas.

The Christmas Chronicles

In this movie, Kurt Russell plays the role of Saint Nick who mistakenly crashes the great Santa’s sleigh. In a bid to save Christmas, he must make quick amends. He teams up with two young ‘heroes’ to ensure Christmas gifts are delivered to the children. The movie is a mix of bizarre, incredible decisions, laughter, and some emotion; overall, it is a satisfying film for both the young and old.

Dumplin

This is another classic feature starring Jennifer Aniston, Anne Fletcher, Danielle Macdonald, and other awesome stars. It is a nice movie, the performances are spectacular, and you will enjoy the Dolly Parton soundtrack for this movie. One thing that stands out with this movie is the cheerful entertainment that can put smiles on the face of everyone watching the scenes. It is surely a movie to watch on Netflix. The movie advocates being free spirited, open-minded, and the need to stay positive.

A Christmas Prince

The Royal Wedding You will enjoy the unfolding drama as Amber, who had helped Richard secure his throne now plans to marry him. She will become the Queen; however, Amber is not really sure she is ready to live the rest of her life as a Queen.

The Princess Switch

This movie was rated at 89% by Rotten Tomatoes. It is a nice film about the life of a duchess who switches roles with a normal girl just before Christmas. She gets to experience a different kind of Christmas living life as a normal citizen in her country. However, she ends up falling in love with the other girl’s man, and same thing happens in the castle, find out more on Netflix.

Christmas Inheritance

The soundtrack for this movie is amazing. A young woman is forced to overcome the snow to deliver a Christmas card on behalf of her father. If she can perform this task successfully, she will inherit her father’s vast business. However, her experiences while trying to accomplish the goal changes her mind about many things.

Well, we are happy Netflix has chosen to show these movies, they have great stories, and more people can appreciate them even if many of the movies were released over one year ago. Thankfully, we can have a great time on Christmas day, and during the holidays with nice, humor-filled Christmas movies.

Another ‘War of the Worlds’ Remake?!

As the world seems to have run out of ideas in entertainment, politics, and economics, are you really surprised?

That’s right: War of the Worlds is getting another remake. The old-school classic is about to get a new generation facelift to try and capture another generation entirely. However, it would appear that what was once just a quiet rumor appears to be picking up the pace – and big names along the way. Indeed, it would appear that Greg Kinnear is going to take part in the new remake.

Developed by Canal Plus and by Fox, too, this sounds like it might actually be decent. The actor will be getting brought in after some impressive roles in the likes of House of Cards and Little Miss Sunshine, but probably mostly based on the strength of his Oscar-nominated role in As Good as it Gets. He’s a very impressive actor, and it sounds like his wonderful resume might just land him a major role in a massive reboot that’s sure to rake in the monies.

Interestingly, it sounds like the remake is going to be told across an eight-part series instead of a conventional movie remake. This obviously has people quite interested, especially as it’s got a successful name in Merlin creator Howard Overman involved. It’s going to take place in a modernized America, so we can expect some subtle yet significant changes.

Overman, though, appears determined to impress both new fans as well as any lovers of the old classic. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he stated: “I look forward to bringing our bold, fresh and relatable version, inspired by this much-loved story to a new audience,”

More of the same?

Interestingly, the BBC also have a three-part remake of the old-school H.G. Wells novel coming out, too. This is going to involve a few notable names, namely Robert Carlyle. As impressive an actor as Scotland has produced, he would make an excellent addition to any remake of this classic tale. Fans, though, might be a touch worried that this excellent book is going to get a touch overly saturated.

Indeed, in 2005 alone we saw three versions of this appear in media format. 2012 seen a sequel and a loose adaption. For the first time in six years, though, we’re going to get what feels like a generation mass-repeat of a wonderful book.

It might all be a bit much, but with each version having its own star actors involved, we might just get the best versions yet.

Space Odyssey: Getting Closer To A Real HAL

A few years after the hugely successful Iron Man movie series came out, people got to work on building JARVIS, the loveable AI system used by Tony Stark. However, one AI system that was probably popularized long before we could get close to realistically making it in our own time was that of HAL 9000. The awesome AI was one of the many fantastic things about 2001: A Space Odyssey, and we might now have an actual version of HAL 9000 to talk to in the near future.

No longer just a wonderful supporting character in (yet another) Stanley Kubrick classic, we can now enjoy HAL 9000 closer than we ever have until now. It’s a wonderful creation, and computer scientist and all-round expert Pete Bonasso has been at the forefront of its creation. While he’s happily informed people that paranoia won’t be making a feature this time around, we can see just about every other viable feature coming to life in impressive fashion.

Speaking about this was Bonasso, who said: “I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey in my senior year at West Point in 1968. West Point had only one computer,

“I programmed that computer to shoot pool, virtually. But when I saw 2001, I knew I had to make the computer into another being, a being like HAL 9000.”

His new study, then, titled “CASE: A HAL 9000 for 2021”, shows us exactly how Bonasso went about creating the study. Named CASE itself, he managed to create an AI that was suitable for dealing with standard day-to-day life on a virtual planet, including managing oxygen and removing carbon dioxide. He was even able to send out an AI controlled rover to pick up some rocks!

Also, this HAL-alike could even be designed to solve anything from gas leaks to dust storms. It’s a very handy piece of kit, but primarily shows us how far technology has jumped since the days of 2001.

A fantastic recreation

According to the study penned to cover CASE, it was noted that “If you say, ‘Open the pod bay doors, CASE’ (assuming there are pod bay doors in the habitat), unlike HAL, it will respond, ‘Certainly, Dave,’ because we have no plans to program paranoia into the system.”

Managed across a 4-hour session, this delivered a huge amount of useful information back to Bonasso. Nobody virtual or otherwise died during the mission, and they were able to run the overall virtual mission without a single problem – result!

While it likely won’t be working in our own day-to-day lives anytime soon, we can say that we aren’t a hundred miles away from progress. It may be 20 years after it was predicted in the movie, but we’re excited to see if HAL 9000 is kicking around, in some form or another, in 2021.

New Found Dinosaur Species Named After Marvel’s Thanos

Any Comic book  fan knows who Thanos is, he was always quite a big deal within the Marvel lore but unlike other Marvel characters that broke out into the mainstream in the last two decades, Thanos remained in the shadow for a while. All of that off course changed when Infinity War came along and showed what a great character he really is. Now that Josh Brolin’s portrayal of the  the Mad Titan made him a household name all across the world, Thanos receives a huge honor from the scientific community as he now has a dinosaur named after him. Yeah, you read that right  Thanos is now the name of a newly-discovered species of dinosaurs.

The species which is called the Thanos simonattoi —was a carnivorous dinosaur that resided in Brazil during the later part of Cretaceous Period around 145 million years ago. The announcement of the new dinosaur discovery first came in Historical Biology, a journal first published online on November 16, 2018.

“In the present contribution, we describe a new abelisaurid (Thanos simonattoi, gen. et sp. nov.) from the São José do Rio Preto Formation, Bauru Group, Brazil (Upper Cretaceous). Thanos differs from other theropods by having a well-developed keel becoming wider and deeper posteriorly on the ventral surface; two lateral small foramina separated by a relative wide wall on each lateral surface of the centrum, and well-developed and deep prezygapophyseal spinodiapophyseal fossae.”

It is still unknown what the future holds for the character in the the MCU, Brolin is set to reprise his role as Thanos once again in next year’s Avengers 4, but that might not because of the last time according to the actor. If he has his way, Brolin would appear in more Marvel Cinematic Universe movies in the near future.

“You know what, I don’t know what the future brings and who knows, but [I] love the idea of something infinite like this,” Brolin told ScreenRant. “I’ve never been involved in sequels. The fact that we’ve done some of Avengers 2, oh sorry, Avengers 4 but Infinity War 2, I’m going back. I’m going to do more, and we’re going to do some re-shoots and all that. So, I’m excited about all that. I love the Russos. I love working on the Avengers. I didn’t think I was going to and I actually loved it. I didn’t even like it. I loved it.”

Sony Announce 2 New Spiderman Spinoff Movies for 2020 Release

Sony has a complicated history with Spiderman. After the first 3 movies that were directed by Sam Raimi became the biggest hits in the studio’s history the fourth movie was canceled after creative differences between them and the director. They went ahead and rebooted the character under Marc Webb guidance this time planning to spin a whole shared universe around the character, but things didn’t go as planned. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 flopped, the Sinister Six spinoff that was supposed to spin off never took place, and Sony wound up entering into an agreement with Marvel to co-create the Homecoming series and bring Spidey back into the MCU.

Now, A few years later, though, things have turned around dramatically. Even without spiderman Venom became one of the years’  biggest (surprise) hits, grossing almost $780 million and counting. And Don’t forget  Into the Spider-Verse,  Sony’s first animated Spider-Man movie that receives a lot of positive buzz. With things looking up, Variety reports that Sony has added two more Spider-Man spinoff films to their release calendar. The first untitled Marvel project hits theaters July 10, 2020. The second arrive son October 2.

They don’t have confirmed information on what these movies are, but they have educated guesses for both: “While no specifics were provided in the studio’s announcement, the July project is likely “Morbius,” starring Jared Leto. The character is another villain from the Spidey canon, which will be shepherded by “Safe House” director Daniel Espinosa. Morbius first surfaced in the 1971 comic “The Amazing Spider-Man,” as a scientist seeking a cure for a blood disease. Things don’t go as planned, and the doctor winds up with vampiric traits and a thirst for blood.”

The second, they speculate, is Venom 2.

After the Success of the first venom (that earned more than Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool), it’s easy to imagine why the studio wants to fast-track the sequel. Although the first one had its shortcomings now that the character is established and there is no need for an origin story the second entry in the series can be everything fans are waiting for.

Amazing ‘Avengers 4’ Fan-Made Cartoon

As The Avengers has grown to be among the biggest and most successful IPs of a generation, it’s no surprise to see fans want more. As ever with such huge franchises, the minute a title is released the fans want to see even more stuff come out. With much talk of the fourth Avengers movie, though, one fan has created a pretty impressive fan-made video that will get you pretty hyped for the real thing when it finally arrives.

With news of the first footage floating around the Marvel fan forums and the like, there’s a lot of speculation about what it might involve. One fan, though, has gone from talking about it on a forum to making his own fan trailer. It’s really impressive, and really does a good job of making the series look even better.

While rumored trailer descriptions are flying around, Spectrum Cinema, a popular YouTube channel has created a stylish animated trailer that depicts what the rumored script is supposed to be. Despite the fact it’s made more or less entirely by a fan, it’s very impressive indeed. The trailer, named Avengers: Annihilation, has some rather janky animation at times but it is really impressive for a fan-made effort.

It’s pretty macabre, in truth, but it’s very impressive in the way that it plays out. Given it’s pulling on what we can only call strange sources, too, it’s easy to forgive the more creative parts of the writing and animation. We won’t spoil much of the trailer for you, but you do see some finished Avengers, and also a ruined world after the events of Infinity War. It’s all quite grim, really.

Excited yet?

However, the trailer itself is a great piece of work and is sure to whet the appetite for what is to come in the future. We don’t want to sit and critique amateur animation, though, but the voice acting could … use some work. Fair play to them for trying, though: it’s definitely got Marvel fans talking anyway and it will play a big role in getting people hyped up for the big fourth movie to come.

It’s expected that we’ll see the trailer for the fourth edition – the real trailer – come out before the end of the year. As ever, though, this is mostly just speculation. We’ll find out as time goes on what is going to take place, but safe to say it’s going to be quite interesting anyway.

If you want to get in the mood for a big release from Marvel, then why not take a look at the fan trailer?

As outlandish as it might be, it’s a sterling effort and will definitely put you in the mind for another blockbuster involving Tony Stark and co.

Wait, What?! A Shrek & Puss-in-Boots Reboot? Already!?

Apparently, the world has run out of ideas. You see, whilst Shrek was fantastic at the time, it wasn’t anything tremendously new. It followed the same kind of premise and story as so many that came before it. The quality of animation and the way it’s delivered is tremendous, though – that’s not to say anything bad against Shrek. As a series, it’s quality. However, apparently, we’ve got to the stage where even Shrek is getting a reboot.

I used to laugh at elder family members bemoaning childhood classics of their own life being remade for a new generation. I didn’t think I’d see a childhood classic of my own, Shrek, turned into a reboot before my 30s. This is apparently close to happening, though. Apparently, Chris Meledandri, the mastermind behind Despicable Me among others, is being put in charge of the reboot by Universal, according to Variety.

Apparently, ogres aren’t really relevant in 2018 – so, expect some change in gender/orientation or a total swap-around of the roles. Let’s face it, reboots are often absolute drivel, and it’s not likely that this will go any better. The need to change things in a bid to keep it fresh (and to fit in with the more sanitized world it will arrive in) often leads to reboots being technically superior, bt far less pure and enjoyable than the first set.

Even more ridiculously, side-kick Puss in Boots is getting the same reboot. Even stranger is that apparently the idea is to get Eddie Murphy, Michael Myers and Antonio Banderas back together to do it all over again. I can’t really wrap my head around the concept of a reboot that uses all the same old cast but, uh, cool?

A rather fitting concept

As 2018 appears to be a year where people just don’t have a clue what they are doing, the quote from Meladandri that the “challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels,” hardly inspires confidence that this is a well though tout concept.’

This might be an absolute car crash, and it’s best we prepare for that. Without any real idea how to make it better or different from the original, I fear we might get a butchered version of the originals, devoid of the original patter and enjoyment while replaced with more sponsorship and dreadful puns.

Reboots. Eugh.

Is The Book Always Better Than The Movie? Maybe Not

“Ach, what’s the point in seeing it? The book is always better than the movie!”

While this might be a common refrain for any book-to-movie adaption it’s not always the case. Sometimes, a theme and idea can only be explained well when it’s put into an immediate visual format. Books need a certain understanding of the ideas being discussed to truly get it. for that reason, sometimes the movie can win out over the book.

“Like when!?” I hear you ask. Well, let me explain. Here are some examples of times when the movie might actually outstrip the written version.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest

Having seen the movie ahead of reading the book, I maybe done this in the wrong order. However, I feel like the movie putting a bit more of a spotlight on McMurphy is important, not least because it allows Jack Nicholson to be at his most outrageous best.

It’s a cracking movie, and the book is still good. I do like the alteration of the angle and dynamic, though, as it does make the perspective more on McMurphy than with Chief.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

While many find that the works of J.K. Rowling work as well on the page as they do the screen, I preferred the screen version of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I just found that there was more to it, especially the fact that the movie fleshes out the kind of lack of proper storyline in the original book.

This makes it a bit more of a story than just an additional piece of lore for the Harry Potter universe. It’s very interesting to see some of the famous HP stuff taken on by new characters and locations.

Gone Girl

A controversial one for some, but I think the Gone Girl movie released in 2014 is better than the original novel by Gillian Flynn. The novel is a fine work, but I felt there was more of a race and a pulse setting fear to the movie.

The screen version just adds a bit more to guess and try to work out and around, which always makes it a bit more intriguing in the thriller industry. For me, at least.

To Kill A Mockingbird

As one of the first ‘great’ books I ever read, the book will always hold a place in my heart. However, I feel like the screen adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird might just trump the book. The 1962 film is a wonderful take on the book as it covers it in such a tough, visceral fashion.

The empathy and the power of the story is felt so incredibly well in the movie adaption. It’s a tremendous take on a brilliant book, and might just win over thanks to the amazing works of the likes of Gregory Peck.

There are some other good options out there that you might prefer ahead of the book – what do you think? What would you rather watch than read?

Behind-The-Scenes Photos Which Ruin The Magic

Movies have always played a big role during times of negative events such as silent films during the Great Depression and countless uplifting films during World War II.  Everyone at some time or another will watch movies just to relax, unwind, and forget their troubles.  Even people who might not be movie enthusiasts will lose themselves in a good movie.

Movies come in so many different genres that it’s impossible not to be able to find a movie that you will enjoy.  Some genres include comedies, dramas, fantasies, action films, and horror.  Films know how to draw in their viewers in order for the audience to become a part of the story.  When you watch a film, one of two things will happen, you will either become totally engaged or just not be able to get into it.

Is Avengers: Infinity War All CGI? Take A Look

In the modern world of cinema, we’re able to produce things that simply would have seemed impossible. For example, you take a look at old-school movies like Clash of the Titans, and it’s barely believable that a director thought it looked anything other than amateur. Compare it with the more modern remake, and it’s safe to say that special effects can make up for a lack of just about anything on-set.

Well, one thing we can say for sure with the Avengers movie series has been that special effects play a critical role in making it look passable. Some recent shots came out from the Avengers movie sets recently, showing you the reality of how parts are shot. For example, the amazing scenes set on Wakanda don’t take place on anything other than a green screen.

While everyone knows that, it’s interesting to see the actual before/after shots that details just how much these kind of movies rely upon CGI to succeed. Many scenes in Infinity War – and others – are mostly built with the Green Screen. According to expert Oliver Schulz, who worked on the movie: “I was still wrapping on their other production Black Panther when I began on this show. Having worked on several Marvel shows prior, it gave a sense coming onto this one that I was seeing old friends again,”

For example, on the trip to Nidavellir, Thor, Rocket Raccoon and Groot all find themselves on a space station that is put together by Method Studios. According to Greg Steele, the VFX Supervisor: “The challenges revolved around building an environment that could be easily animated or posed per shot, having enough detail that we could be a foot from the ring surface and also pull out and across long distances and still retain the sense of scale and detail necessary, and in the end be efficient enough to render in many shots,”

Dust in the wind

Arguably the hardest part for shooting probably came from when the heroes all begin to turn to dust. While they are all quite hard to watch and see, the quality of the work that is put in Weta Digital to make it come to life, according to VFX Supervisor Matt Aiken, was quite exceptional, saying: “We had to make sure that it worked really, really well, because it was so drawn out, and so it had to withhold very high levels of scrutiny because we were holding right on Spidey’s face over Tony’s shoulder, through that.”

It just goes to show the immense amount of attention to detail and effort that is needed to pull off these kinds of shots. It takes precision and effort, but it also goes to show that for all the quality of the acting, writing and directing on films like this, it comes down to how good the art team are.

If you can make some of the scenes in this movie look as good as they do, then it’s safe to say that the art team make the move what it truly us. From making the big bad in Thanos look good to ensuring that Wakanda shows off its resplendent best, the work needed to make it all come together is a feat of tremendous detail in itself.
