Fake Festival in UK Confused Half A Million Revelers

For the good people of Britain, one of the most common problems you have is the weather. We’re often left with about 12 weeks of the year to fit all of our enjoyment into – and it’s why so many festivals happen year-in, year-out.

Some festivals sound better than others, of course – but it’s important to remember that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Take the festival which was supposed to have everyone from Liam Gallagher and Richard Ashcroft to the Arctic Monkeys, the 1975 and Blossoms.

It’s like a dream festival for all of those middle-aged men with Paul Weller haircuts!

Sadly, a dream was all it was. A rather wild college student threw together an awesome looking flyer for an event called ‘Yorkshire Fields’ – and it had just about everyone you could think of. It even had Scottish musical superstar Gerry Cinnamon!

More importantly, though, the line-up was a lot of bollocks. It was posted online, and it got so many people excited. Ollie Yates is the mastermind behind the evil scheme, and he managed to make a fool of many a festival traveler. It was all part of a social media campaign for college, and Yates decided it was a good idea to try and fool half the UK music scene.

With a simple £5 Facebook Ads boost, the post got around the social media page and before long had around 500,000 people viewing the image in total. This seen people talking about, tagging their mates and making plans for a totally fictitious festival.

The dubious scheme unveiled

However, as it continued to go on, it had to eventually be unraveled for the waiting public. The announcement on the ‘official’ Facebook page announced that it was a social experiment to test how social media could empower and build business: hence the total lack of detail outside of the single Facebook page.

Yates spoke about the project with LADBible, where he said: “The aim was to get a few reactions on how the post could be shared and how something that’s so ludicrous [could] go viral, and actually get people to believe it.

“I didn’t expect the result I got in the end. I got the page to over 5,000 likes (which is now going down as I announced it wasn’t real).”

Naturally, there has been a happy mixture of charming ripostes, witty retorts and, as this is the internet, downright abuse. Given it was eventually being shared around musicians and asking them for comment, we’re sure that this college experiment has well and truly been a resounding success – so long as you never spent hours trying to work out how to procure tickets

The Loudest Rock Concerts Ever Recorded

When you leave a music concert or a gig, you can often like you have just your ears filled with paper. The ringing noise in your ears sticks around for a long time, as does the necessity to go “WHAT?” to just about anyone you speak to. Even going to see someone quite harmonic and relaxing can leave your ears in a bit of a tiff. So, going to see a major rock band at a big venue is only going to exasperate those scenarios.

However, regardless of how bad your ears have been, you will find that it pales in comparison to what would have happened if you were present at any of the following rock concerts. These are recorded as among the loudest in history.

Sleazy Joe, 2008

Their show that was held over at Hassleholm, and it managed to produce a ridiculous 143.2 decibels of noise. That’s a hell of a lot of noise, and shows you just how far the group were going on this performance.

Touted as the ‘loudest band in the world’, it’s fair to say that Sleazy Joe done a pretty damn good job of making that come true in their ’08 show in Sweden.

AC/DC, 1980

Known for being able to hit the heights on a good night, AC/DC managed an impressive 130 decibels during their Back in Black tour back in the 1980s. Years of hitting the high notes will have had an impact on the band with singer Brian Johnson having to reschedule shows in 2016 or risk the loss of his hearing entirely!

Indeed, back in the day they were told that they were ‘too loud’ by promoters and were asked to turn down the volume a touch: pfft!

The Who, 1976

While we might not really associate The Who with being a ‘loud’ band, they managed to make an impressive 126 decibels of noise during one of their London shows in 1976. They were playing at the Valley Stadium, and managed to make plenty of noise.

It was at one stage the highest performing concert in history, so much so that the Guinness Book of World Records awarded them for their noisiness until it was later broken.

Leftfield, 1996

Among the loudest that we could find, though, comes courtesy of the incredible Leftfield. They done a show over at the Brixton Academy, and managed to hit a stupendous 137 decibels. That’s damn impressive, and has become part of their show experience: loud to the point where they are warned by their promotional teams.

Legal limits mean that breaking these kind of sound levels is very unlikely. However, while it would be nice to go even a bit higher again, the 140-odd decibel level sounds more than loud enough for most gigs!

Whatever kind of rock music you like, you’ll find that some of these concerts are the kind of gig that you would like to spend your night, even if your ears would feel like they have gone through a workout!

The Top Halloween Songs to Play This Year

When it comes to enjoying ourselves with the world of spooky Halloween, one of the best mediums we have to do so is with music. The music industry has long been loaded with awesome Halloween-themed music and songs over the years. If you spend some time looking around at popular Halloween music, then you might get in that frightful mood without missing a beat.

So, what are some of the best Halloween songs to look out for this year?

Superstition

Start off your playlist with the upbeat Stevie Wonder classic. Halloween is all about superstition and folk tales, and what better way to make that shine through than with the help of this awesome track? A must-use for anyone who wants to add that supernatural charm to their playlist without having to go down a screamer-style music playlist.

Ghostbusters

An obvious one for fans of the movie, if you want to get everyone up dancing and having a good time then the Ghostbusters theme by Ray Parker Jr. is just what you need. It was hot as hell back on release in 1984, and this is still an absolute banger to this day: 100% a must-have with any good Halloween playlist.

Highway to Hell

The AC/DC classic is a definite one to add to your Halloween play-list this year. It was first released in the late 1970s, and was a major hit for them for obvious reasons. A very engaging song with plenty of opportunities for you to rock alongside the Aussie band, this is definitely one to add to the list when you want to go wild this Halloween.

Thriller

An obvious one, the Michael Jackson classic has to be part of any good Halloween themed music playlist. Get this one on, and you can get the entire crowd up dancing along with it. Everyone over the age of 15 will know the moves, so get everyone dancing along to this awesome Halloween classic – a fine choice for anyone wanting to put together a playlist that really makes the right impression.

Don’t Fear the Reaper

A fine choice of a Halloween song, this tune by the Blue Oyster Cult was a hit since it first appeared in the mid-70s. A classic for many reasons, it’s a good song that you should definitely look to add to the playlist. It might not sound like the scariest song, but a quick listen to the lyrics will quickly confirm that this is more than a mid-tempo classic that sounds good to relax to: it’s got ample fear in those lyrics.

Deal With The Devil

We have a lot of classics in this list so here’s a recent entry to the list — Pop Evil’s chugging, hard rock single “Deal With the Devil.” Coming from the band’s 2013 set Onyx, it topped Mainstream Rock Songs and peaked at No. 20 in Rock Airplay.

Monster Mash

Get everyone up doing the monster mash with the help of this awesome tune by Bobby Pickett & the Crypt-Kickers. A must-have for any good playlist, it’s got all themes that you need to make a good Halloween tune; it’s slapstick, its catchy and it comes with some rather tremendous dance moves to move along to!

With this in mind, then, you should be able to put together the most spectacular and spooky Halloween music playlist this year!

Bruno Mars Set to Play Prince

As one of the most iconic musicians of all-time, the passing of Prince naturally hit the creative world hard. Since his death, we’ve seen multiple nods and tributes to one of music’ most beloved participants. However, one of the most exciting creations to do with Prince – a biopic – might have secured a fantastic stand-in for the legend: Bruno Mars.

Mars, 32, is being linked with taking on the role of Prince in a biopic being put together by Netflix. This interesting new program would take a full look at the life of Prince, and try to do the legend some justice. Mars himself sang Purple Rain at the US Grammy Awards, and it went down like a house on fire. According to sources at Netflix, then, it’s likely that he’ll take part in the role – despite it likely being among the most challenging roles he’s ever taken on.

If you have watched Mars perform for even a few moments, you’ll see the immediate influence Prince had on his style. A passionate lover of acting, despite having little to no experience, it would be a fine opportunity for him to work his way into a new kind of showbiz at the same time as do his idol some justice.

While it would be his acting debut, the hope is that he will accept. Seen as a great stand-in with his natural charisma and talent, Mars would offer a fine portrayal of Prince.

Prince died aged 57 from what has been described as an ‘accidental overdose’ in 2016. Found dead in his Paisley Park home on April 21st, the two years that have come since have been used to try find the perfect way to portray what was such an energizing life.

Too much too soon?

Naturally, the role would be a big one to try and fill for Mars. With a distinct lack of acting experience, it would be a major role to try and take on so early in his acting career. However, as someone who carries that same soulful charm as Prince, and being a wonderfully talented musician himself, it would make up for any lack of acting expertise.

While some would perhaps prefer an actor to play Prince in a biopic, the musical skills and natural flair of Mars would likely make him the ideal candidate. Would you be happy with Bruno Mars as the person to play Prince? Or would you rather an actor with more experience in playing a role in a biopic?

Watch: Dave Grohl On All Instruments In New Song “Play”

For many years Dave Grohl has led the Foo Fighters to thrill thousands of people in crowds and concerts all over the world. So it is news that he has released a spectacular video showing him performing an almost impossible feat playing seven musical instruments. The video which lasts for 23 minutes has gone viral with the fans of Foo Fighters flooding the comment section with accolades. The documentary which was directed by Grohl was shot in two parts; the aim was to show how much dedication he has put into making good music for the world.

The first part of the documentary shows Grohl behind the scenes talking about music and the efforts put into creating the sounds that the fans have come to like for many years. In the second part of the documentary, Grohl is seen playing seven instruments with so much expertise for 23 minutes. The show was recorded from different angles to enhance the experience, and the sound was particularly configured to promote the different unique sounds of the instruments that were played.

In the press release, it was noted that the project was more about showing the fans a peek into the background activities that create the music they love. It also attempts to express the passion of a musician and his attachment to musical instruments without which it will be impossible to create the amazing sounds they love. Grohl also speaks about the challenges they face behind the scenes and the efforts the band puts into making the music sound the way the audience expects every time.

Grohl’s spectacular performance features him playing an instrumental with the seven instruments on after the other. It was a revealing show that indicated all instruments could produce the sounds we want if only the user knows how they work. Grohl attributes his expertise with the instruments to the need for self-development which pushes musicians like him to put in more efforts in making good music.

To express his passion for music and playing the instruments, Grohl describes the instruments arranged on a stage like a playground where the instruments are the toys, and he is an excited child who cannot wait to start exploring the different sounds each instrument produces. While addressing the challenges, he encounters while making music Grohl compares the experience to a puzzle that you need to keep working on until it is solved.

The documentary titled “Play” has been released online to give the viewers an interactive opportunity to study Grohl’s performance using the seven instruments. It can also be downloaded for use by educational institutions where the documentary can be used to teach students learning about music.

Grohl did mention that the documentary was shot from different angles on purpose. It was done to increase the level of engagement the viewers can have while studying his expert use of the instruments. In our opinion, that was the best feature of the entire documentary.

Bringing Sixty Back: Maddona Turns 60

“People say I’m controversial,” Madonna, who turns 60 today, told a music-industry audience in 2016. “But I think the most controversial thing I have ever done is to stick around.”

The celebrated pop star, actress, writer, and director was born on the 16th of August 1958 and given the name Madonna Louise Ciccone by her Catholic parents. Since first breaking onto the music scene in the late 1970s, The Material Girl has now sold more than 300 million records worldwide and performed on 10 concert tours. According to Guinness World Records, she is the best-selling female recording artist of all time.

In 1977 the Queen of Pop moved to the Big Apple to study dance while working as a model. She soon decided to pursue a musical career and began to record demos with her boyfriend Stephen Bray. After a stint as a band member in the Breakfast Club, she decided to embark on a solo career.

Holiday” was Madge’s first breakthrough hit in the US, peaking at number 16, with “Material Girl” reaching number 3 and “Like A Virgin” being the first of her twelve number-one hits. 1985 proved to be a landmark year for “M” as her debut tour sold out. She also played at the historic Live Aid charity concert. The same year she featured in her first mainstream film, Desperately Seeking Susan for which she received generally positive reviews from both critics and viewers.

A polarizing figure, the Queen of Reinvention has never been one to shy away from controversy. From burning crosses and kissing a black saint in her hit single “Like A Prayer“, tackling teenage pregnancy in “Papa Don’t Preach“, supporting the LGBT community during the peak era of HIV news, publishing a controversial “coffee table” photo book of herself in a number of explicit poses in the early 90s, locking lips with Brittany Spears and Christina Aguilera on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2003, the MDNA singer has certainly had her fair share of iconic moments. Throughout the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s, Madonna has maintained her unapologetic sex-positive, no-holds-barred image.

The singer’s list of accomplishments include Grammys, MTV awards, Billboard awards, and a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role as the eponymous Evita in a musical or comedy, among numerous others. In 2008 Maddy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility. She is also the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time with over $1.4 billion earned from concert tours alone. She has also written a series of children’s books, having released seven picture books and twelve chapter books so far.

Twice married, once to American actor Sean Penn, and once to English director and Producer Guy Ritchie with whom she had a son, Rocco. Madonna is the mother to six children, including four she adopted from Malawi where she has focused most of her charity work. She had her first child Lourdes Maria with then-boyfriend and fitness trainer Carlos Leon.

Recently, Madonna told the BBC in 2017 that performing at smaller intimate shows “is something I’m exploring right now”. She said she is looking to perform at a set venue as opposed to touring, “The idea of doing a show that doesn’t travel the world but stays in one place.”

Musician Plays Guitar to Break World Record

Another world record has been broken as Australian musician Scott Burford finished playing the guitar for 125 hours straight. After kicking off his attempt for the longest guitar playing session on July 15, Burford completed the demanding task after 5 days on July 20th.

The attempt took more than just one man with a guitar. Burford resorted to using superglue to hold the skin together on his fretting hand after his fingers began to crack. A nurse and paramedic checked on Burford’s health during the marathon, receiving round-the-clock support. Onlookers at the Engadine music shop also boosted the guitarist’s spirits by picking up acoustic axes and jamming with him.

The 49-year-old had to abide by some interesting rules to beat the record. According to Mike Miller, the general manager of the shop, “Scott Was allowed a 30-second break in between songs, so that’s when he got his food in. “For every hour he played, he accrued five minutes of rest time.”Guinness’ rules also state that he needed to be filmed 24 hours a day and perform only published songs, which could be repeated just once every four hours. For his attempt, Burford had a repertoire of 500 songs to sift through.

“This has been one of the best week’s of my life playing music,” Burford told The Leader. “I’m pretty tired and can’t wait for a long lie down, but super excited to have achieved my goal. I’m extremely grateful to everyone who helped keep me focused and awake.”

Scott Burford has succeeded to surpass the official world record of 114 hours and six minutes, along with an unverified record of 124 hours and 30 minutes set by a Canadian guitarist earlier this year.

This was not all just for personal glory as Burford used his attempt to break the world record to raise funds for Musicians Making a Difference, a charity which supports vulnerable young people suffering through emotional abuse, neglect, and disadvantage while empowering youths through music, dance and mentoring.

Beyonce and Jay Z Drop a Surprise Album

There may be an argument about who is the one true queen of Pop. But one debate is already settled, as Beyonce retained her title as the queen of surprise album drops.  As you all probably remember, she released her eponymous fifth studio album by surprise back in December 2013.  Now she has done it again,

This time she’s not alone, as she and her husband Jay-Z have released a joint album, “Everything Is Love,” Saturday on his Tidal streaming service and announced it during a concert in Europe.
The first indication of the new album came Saturday when Beyonce gave a sneak peek to her new video for the song”Ape S**t,” which will act as the first single off the album. The full video was released this week accompanying the album.  according to a rep for the project, the video was shot in May at The Louvre museum in Paris.

The video was directed by Ricky Saiz, who previously directed the “Yoncé video,” and was produced by Iconoclast; Beyoncé’s personal stylist, Zerina Akers, and Jay’s personal stylist, June Ambrose, handled all the looks; Belgian dancer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui choreographed it, along with Bey’s usual team of JaQuel Knight and Chris Grant.

The Album contains 9 songs with every song written and produced by a different team. An interesting fact is that the music is marketed under the name “The Carters” which is, of course, the last name of both artists. This is an interesting choice, marketing-wise, but it does come to show that this is truly a joint album.

The Everything Is Love cover art is taken directly from a still from the music video. It features two of Beyoncé’s regular dancers, Jasmine Harper who was a contestant in So You Think You Can Dance, and famed Brooklyn bone breaker Nicholas “Slick” Stewart, who also competed on SYTYCD and America’s Best Dance Crew. In the striking image, Harper is seen picking out Stewart’s hair in front of the famous Mona Lisa.

The two artists are currently touring through Europe together as part of the On The Run II tour.  The tour will be coming to North America starting July 25th. Some of the new songs are bound to find their way into the setlist, so if you want to check them out live you can see a full list of dates here.

Beyonce Breaks YouTube Viewing Records With Cochella Preformance

As one of the most celebrated artists of her generation, Beyonce is a major hit for all manner of reasons. However, it’s down to her complete self-belief in herself and her ease in which she presents herself to the world that makes her such a magnetic personality.

It’s no surprise, then, that her Coachella 2018 performance was immediately seen as a stand-out moment of the whole festival.

Her major event at Coachella was dubbed before it even started as a musical act for the ages. Well, it would appear that all the bombast and hype has been worth it; Beyonce certainly made the most of her massive stage.

Indeed, it’s been one of the most impressive YouTube performers of all-time. Ever since they started to allow live streams on-site, YouTube has seen a new number of records set for live viewing people tuning in.

Well, according to the press, her Coachella 2018 performance brought in a massive 41m live views across over 200 nations. That’s a truly spectacular number of people tuning in, with her Saturday event being one of the most respected and celebrated of her career so far. Not exactly shy of breaking records anyway, this is just yet another one to add to her growing list of trophies.

As the most viewed live musical festival ever already, Coachella’ major events like this one have gone down a major hit. The bombast, the charisma and the entire energy of the whole performance made a huge splash in the industry. However, there are more records that have been broken here at Coachella – including a very important barrier.

For anyone who even has a cursory grasp of modern politics, the inequality across America is immediately apparent. So, the fact that Beyonce became the first black woman to ever headline Coachella in it’s close to two decades of existence is a major landmark in itself. Not content with constantly setting new records and targets with her performances on-stage and online, Beyonce now has opened the floor – quite literally – to artists who previously would have been ignored.

As ever, Beyonce was very magnanimous about this, thanking Coachella for letting her be the first before listing off a large group of people who came before her that paved the way for her own success.

The whole show was a major celebration of everything from black history and pride in culture to education, creating a very powerful message that was definitely felt around the world. Indeed, she performed with a massive 200-person Historically Black College and University (HBCU) group throughout the show.

She even quoted the likes of Malcolm X, and also sang the “Black National Anthem” in Lift Every Voice and Sing. While many celebrities are happy to sit in the background and make very generic and dull comments about modern politics, Beyonce has used her platform for many good causes in the past.

This latest experience is just another example that she breaks the mold of the modern celebrity in some style.

Moon Hooch – A Band Playing Safety Cones

All of us have had a chance to hear a lot of different music genres and enjoy all kinds of remakes and remixes, blending together various sounds. Browsing the web, you can come across plenty of remixes of classical compositions, hits from you parents’ youth with a modern techno beat, or a punk version of Fergie’s old hit London Bridge. Now, you can think that you have already heard it all, but think again. These artists manage to surprise us even when we think there’s nothing left to discover.

Wandering around through the crowd on the Street Musicians Festival which took place in the fortress of a suburban place in Novi Sad, Serbia, I had trouble finding a stage with a performance that would really catch my attention. But then, I heard a funky dance beat, similar to the music you would usually hear at a party on the beach at a summer night, but there was something different about the sound. I realized that I can’t identify the instruments I hear, so I came closer to the stage in order to see what the music was played on. When I was finally able to see the stage, I couldn’t see the musicians, because all I was able to see from the crowd dancing in front of the stage was a big safety cone, like the ones you would see on the road warning you that there is a hole on the way, or at the construction site.

Since it was moving in the rhythm of the music, I assumed it was used as an instrument, but I still couldn’t figure out exactly what’s going on. Then I realized that there were two guys playing saxophones with big safety cones taped to their instruments, changing the sound that’s coming out of the instrument’s bell. The people in the audience were full of energy, dancing their hearts out like they were on the best party of their lives. The third member of the band was playing drums, making the music sound modern and energetic, but still odd in comparison to what all of us have got used to hearing in the clubs or on the radio. The transitions between the songs and different rhythms were sudden, but completely smooth, leaving the listeners surprised and amazed with this experimental musical expression.

Later I found out that Moon Hooch is a band trio from Brooklyn, New York, and their music is often described as dance-oriented fusion jazz which is highly influenced by electronic music. The members of the band, Wenzl McGowen, Mike Wilbur and James Muschler started playing music in the subway and they claim that paying attention to the things happening around you and people passing by while integrating everything that’s happening around you into your musical expression makes a unique sound full of feeling.

All in all, you can’t even imagine what Moon Hooch’s music sounds like until you hear it. So, you can either try to make music using objects from the construction site or just let the band do it for you and search their music on the Internet – it’s up to you.

Hip Hop Battles – How Do They Work?

If you have watched Step Up, Stomp the Yard, Streetdance, Honey or any other movie about the hip hop dancers, their work and struggles, you might be a bit confused about what it’s all about.  All of us have heard about hip-hop dance battles, but how do they really work? Who dances and what determines who has won the battle? Can people only dance alone against one person, or is it possible for more people to battle together as a team? And, if America’s Best Dance Crew crossed your mind, you should know that, even though the show is based on a competition between many different hip hop crews, it has nothing to do with battles. The dance crews in that show compete against each other like in every other competition – a lot of them perform, and then the judges decide which were the best ones. Battles work a bit differently, and if you want to find out how – keep reading.

Who battles?

Basically anyone can participate in a hip-hop battle, but, of course, it is expected that the person is a good dancer. If we’re talking about spontaneous battles that happen right in the middle of the street, all you need to do is be in the right place in the right time. But, if the battle is organized ahead, you should probably apply yourself or your crew for the battle just by putting your name on the list, for the purposes of the easier organization. Of course, another way for you to participate in a battle is to get called-out by another dancer or a crew, which usually means the one who called you out is testing your dance skills and think they can beat you. You can battle either alone or with your crew, depending on the type of the battle. The number of people on each side is always determined, because it would be unfair for one person to battle against, for example, three people. When talking about battles, people often mention the number of people battling, so there are battles “1 on 1“, “3 on 3“, “5 on 5“ and so on.

Who dances first?

The order of the dancers quite differs in different battles and depends on the organizers of the battle. Sometimes, if the battle is 1 on 1, the dances will be randomly divided into pairs, and only one person from every pair can win, and therefore proceed to the next round, where they are battling another randomly assigned opponent who got to the next round the same way they did, and so on, depending on the number of dancers battling. In the final battle, there are only two dancers left in the round and whoever wins the round has won the whole battle. The order of dancers is usually determined by spinning the bottle on the floor, between the dancers who are participating in the round. When the bottle stops spinning, the direction where it’s pointed determines which dancer (or a crew) dances first. But, this is not always the rule. Sometimes the order is fixed and randomly assigned while forming pairs of dancers.

Who wins?

Of course, the person (or a crew) with the best dance moves, who managed to demonstrate the music through their movement is supposed to win the round or the battle. Some battles have judges, usually 3 to 5 respected dancers of different styles, who have to give their vote to one of the sides at the end of the round, or they can vote a tie. Since every judge votes for themselves, a dancer who got more votes in the round wins. In a battle with no judges, the audience decides who wins the round by the loudness of their cheering, or sometimes holding up a card of a certain color for each side.
