Young Superstar Battles Back from Cancer To Play at Carnegie Hall

Without doubt, one of the most painful parts of modern life is hearing about people with cancer. It is one of the most ruthless illnesses, very hard to get over seeing someone go through. For one 12-year-old boy, Daniel Coalner, though, his cancer battle was especially challenging. However, young Daniel is a fine example that you can overcome even the worst illness and still go on to do amazing things in life.

Using His Talent

A talented pianist, he got the chance to take himself all the way to Carnegie Hall!

Considered a prodigy, his illness was a major setback. However, he never knew about his talent until after his illness; he started taking piano lessons after he had successfully beat the illness. Take a look at the video below, and look at his fantastic play on the piano. He plays live on the show at ABC, and impresses the crowd with his wonderful, natural talent.

He got the chance to play at Carnegie Hall aged just 12, despite the setback of his illness. Many musicians play their entire career without getting near such a stage!

What did Danny think of the whole experience?

“Well, really it was just absolutely incredible,” he began.

“The piano was magnificent, much better than upright at home! The acoustics was amazing. Everything just…came together beautifully.”

Speaking to his parents on GMA, they were equally proud of the wonderful achievements of their son.

“Well, just not just proud, just incredibly blessed to see Daniel healthy, happy and able to do something he absolutely loves.” they told GMA.

Daniel underwent aggressive therapy at a very young age, where, as his parents put it they “bring you to the point of death and hope that they kill all of the bad cells and leave enough of the good ones for you to recover.”

Thankfully, due to the great work of the people down at Akron Children’s Hospital, Daniel made a full recovery and kicked the illness into the long grass.

That’s not all; he even got the chance to use his skills as an organist when he went to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. This is a young man with an exceptional talent, and a ravenous appetite for music. What did he make of the cathedral, then?

“It was just absolutely amazing there. Being able to control the huge wall of sound that covers the entire cathedral was just incredible.” Daniel said. Quizzed on how he was going to top such achievements aged just 12, for once he didn’t know!

“I honestly have no idea. Going to St. Patrick’s cathedral and Carnegie hall in one day, that’s a pretty good day for a 12-year-old. It’s a pretty great day!”

Smart Man Creates 3D-Printed Braces for Under $100!

When we need to go to the dentist, one of the things that we tend to absolutely hate is the idea of getting any work done. Braces are anathema to most people, but if your teeth are out of shape then you might just need braces. However, the cost of braces, the treatment and the fitting can be way out of the reach of some people.

Without a dental plan or anything like that, you are hoping for goodwill to help make the payments and fix your teeth up. However, for Amos Dudley, the situation was a bit different. An undergrad at New Jersey Institute of Technology, he was informed that he would need to resume his middle school years of wearing braces to get his teeth straightened up.

Amos Gets Creative

He didn’t do as he was asked as he simply hated wearing the retainer, and he was paying the price for it as he got older and his teeth started to become unaligned and crooked. However, while he was OK with getting braces, the cost was beyond him – what he did, have, though, was a bit of creativity and a 3D printer after studying digital design.

So, he decided to make a pair of plastic braces for himself rather than have to pay the big bucks and have the made for him. While it took a lot of time to work out the entire orthodontic procedure needed to get your teeth stylish and straight, he took it step-by-step. He made several teeth moulds of his teeth, labelling them as they got continually straighter.

Using alginate powder, he made a mold of his teeth without much issue and then used Permastone to help make it solidify. Then, he cut it down to help create a smooth, authentic surface and laser scanned, creating a 3D copy of what he needed.

Then, he used a tool that meant he could vacu-form around the plastic on each mold and be left with a solution to keep his teeth in fine form. Once this was done, he made sure that it would sit perfectly on his gums – and voila!

While the procedure isn’t one we would expect anyone other than someone with his technical smarts to take on, we recommend that anyone who cannot afford dental treatment but has to carry it out do a bit of DIY reading into the subject.

If you have the ability, you might be able to get lovely, straight teeth just like our friend here without breaking the bank!

This Courageous Cop Helped Out a Shoplifter

When someone steals from a store, the stigma of theft can ruin their entire lives. Most of the time, we like seeing thieves and other people caught out taking what is not there to be taken. When the cops roll into the store to huckle them away for their theft, it’s usually something that the public enjoy watching – a rogue getting their comeuppance. However, sometimes, people who are stealing aren’t doing it out of badness or greed – but out of necessity.

Take Bennet Johns, a US Police Officer at Laurel PD, Maryland, was called to a theft attempt in a Giant grocery store, he walked in expecting the usual scenario to unfold. However, what he found was a young woman, ID unknown, who had tried to steal $15 worth of diapers for her child. When he arrived and heard her side of the story, he found out that she had stolen them to help her infant son.

On the spot, he cited for a misdemeanor theft – which was nice. Some officers would take the liberty here and take them in. Instead, Johns decided to get the wallet out and pay for the goods himself – she might have stolen, but that does not mean that her son should need to go without.

Good Deed Goes Viral

Very quickly, people took to social media to share a positive story about a police officer doing a great, charming and selfless deed. The public hopped onto the story and the goodwill that it generated as absolutely outstanding. The PD Facebook page became inundated with kinds works and respectful thanks for the Officer, having made a positive difference while giving a valuable lesson to the mother.

OK, she was still a criminal – but not everyone commits crimes out of bad intentions. This lady wanted to help her infant son out but didn’t have enough money to do so. Should her child suffer because her economic situation is so bad? Some heartless folks may say yes, but we say otherwise.

While we are used to hearing bad stores about the cops of this world, the showcase rolled on and everyone was happy to promote a positive, heart-warming story about a police officer who was happy to give out a little advice but not leave her and her son empty-handed.

Speaking to Fox News, PD Chief Richard Mclaughlin, was very positive and enthusiastic about what he had seen along the way. He said that he was proud of all of his officers, but “particularly this one.”

Just remember, then, that not every copper is a crook and not everyone who has to help themselves is a criminal. Don’t judge a book by its cover and all that; sometimes, our actions are fed by a desperation to help others rather than ourselves. That’s majorly apparent reading this story. Well done, Officer!

Wallet Found Seven Decades After Loss

When you lose your wallet, most of the time you spend about a day, two tops, looking for it. After a while, though, it’s usually commonplace to accept that it’s gone and probably won’t be coming back anytime soon. This can mean having to make lots of phone calls to cancel cards, and accept that those timeless wallet photos and any cash inside is most likely lost forever.

As we all know, though, sometimes things pop up back into our possession in ways we would have never expected. When someone lost their wallet 71 years ago, though, they’d likely spent the majority of life forgetting about it – it was just a wallet after all, right?

Larry Sloan, who runs The Talent Factory, a popular comedy club in Nevada, came across a rather interesting discovery when he found this wallet. The wallet was found when Larry and a mate were carrying out some renovation reviews on the club. Inbetween two floor boards, it has clearly been lost a long time ago. In a bid to find out where it came from and who it belongs to, Larry began a search.

It was still in good shape despite being lost for so long, albeit with a touch of fading and a nice dust jacket enveloped around it. Other than that, though, the wallet was in pretty good condition. So, they decided to open it up and see if anything inside would give them an idea as to who it belonged to. Given its age, though, hopes weren’t high….

Inside the wallet, though, was all manner of old-school items – for example, a proper food ration stamp from the Second World War. They kept looking through the wallet, finding various trinkets as they dug deeper. They also found a proper old school Boy Scouts card, decades old at the very least, and some old phots that were faded and hard to make out. The best find, though, was a small calendar stored in there – dated 1944.

Digging deeper, they found a little ID card that read Clare McIntosh in faded blue ink – they now just had to find a certain Ms. McIntosh who would fit the timeline. However, the story almost ended here; all they had was a name and a photo of young man to go on.

However a deep search continued, until the two gentleman were able to finally find the famous Clare McIntosh alive and well, in good spirits, aged 85. They gave him back his old memorabilia and let him take back a little bit of his childhood that he must have presumed was long lost.

It’s a nice little story, and shows you that things can turn up in so many places – even when you least expect them.

Would you go to the trouble of finding someone who had lost a possession so far back in history? Or would you just let slide, and never try to reach or contact them?

Heroic Man Cuts Homeless People’s Hair For Free, Gets His Own Shop As Karma

The world can be a pretty brutal place – look around often enough, and you can always find stories that make you feel really sad. It’s just part of society, as we get more globally connected, it seems sad stories are more far reaching.

However, the upside is that we also get to hear about wonderful stories from afar, too. Take Brennon Jones, a barber for Philadelphia. He goes around his local neighbourhood and cuts the hair of homeless people for absolutely nothing in return – not a dime.

Having been cutting hair for over ten years in stores, he decided to leave cutting hair in stores and work in other ways. Instead, he started Haircuts 4 The Homeless to try and help local people down on their luck around the area. At the time of writing, Jones has cut over 1,000 heads of hair since he started – amazing, right?

It all started when Jones got that same tinge of guilt we all do when we bypass another human on the street, maybe passing them enough for a coffee.

“I saw a homeless person when I was on my way to work. I gave him a couple of dollars and went about my way. But I felt guilty, like I could’ve done more,” Jones said.

Rather than just think about it, Jones actually DID something about it.

Now, as you might imagine, such a fantastic and kind-hearted thing caught the eye of people. The owner of Taper’s barbershop, Sean Johnson, heard about what this young man was doing with H4TH, and decided to help out.

“I’ve had this [space] for two years, fully furnished. With other ideas, it didn’t work out. I just wanted my vision to keep going and to see his vision keep going. Hopefully, he can make it bigger than what it is,” Johnson said.

Now, Jones can cut hair for people in need at a particular location, instead of taking his tools with him about the streets. It’s comfier and more private for all, and delivers the exact kind of message you want to hear. Someone took a great move to help out those who had less than him, and in return was rewarded for his kindness with good fortune.

That’s not all, though – Brennon’s not finished yet!

“The good part about this is I can do more. I can feed them here, provide them with information because it’s an actual building. My plan is to link with the shelters all throughout the city and find partners that will provide transportation,” Jones claimed.

It’s a wonderful story, and we congratulate Haircuts 4 the Homeless and Brennon.

Amazing Dog Survives Ballast of Bullets

Dogs are truly amazing creatures, and they often do many things to surprise us and show us they are more than just mere animals. Recently, though, one story really caught the eye. It came from Animals Lebanon, where a volunteer there, Amal Andari, was out and about with a friend taking a drive. They came across a poor dog that was walking around the road, looking lost and uncertain.

They went to see what was up with the dog – and soon noticed with immediate horror that the dog had been shot. Speaking to The Dodo, Andari was clear about what was seen: “We saw a hole in her head.

“We stopped and walked down to her. She was a little bit fearful, but we called her, and she came, and she was wagging her tail. She approached us, but slowly, and we gave her some water,” Andari added.

Speaking to a local man about what may have been the cause of such an injury, he was unsure, saying “maybe a dog attacked her.”

Immediately, they took the dog with them to a local veterinarian, where it was checked out. It turns out that the little puppy, only 2 months old, had been SHOT over a dozen times. Small pellets were found all over its body during the x-ray; only look if you can handle seeing such barbarity to animals.

Alongside the damage that was done to her physically, she was also suffering from parvovirus; in some cases, a deadly condition.

“There were so many pellets. We think that a bunch of teenagers had ‘fun’ shooting her,” Andari said.

Sadly, this isn’t uncommon in Lebanon. The abuse of dogs via violence and even poisoning is commonplace in the country. Before long, the little dog was on the mind – at first, though, there was not much hope. Andari’s friend decided to be the one to take responsibility of caring for the dog and nursing it back to health.

“She’s hyperactive. She always wants to play. She plays with two small dogs, and the dogs are sometimes annoyed by her because she has a lot of energy. She’s unbelievable — this dog,” Andari said. “She has an appetite for life. She wanted to live – I believe that.”

Fantastically, she appears to have made a full recovery and now lives with her friend in, what we hope, is peace and comfort. Such horrible acts simply cannot be treated with any other than the utter contempt that they deserve.

Brave Hero Saves Drowning Kitten At Own Risk

When we hear about people who have a strong bond with pets, there’s usually that semi-cynical reservation that they “only do it because it seems nice.”

Most people who do love pets, though, genuinely do. Even if cynics like myself can doubt their credentials – despite being an animal guy myself – it does not take much to see the goodness in a person shine through. All it takes is one act of kindness or heroism to show someone that their animal loving capacity is more genuine than someone might be willing to give them credit for.

Take this crazy video, where we see a cat majorly struggling. Cats HATE water and the have absolutely no time for it when it starts to rain. They aren’t really a big fan of the rain whatsoever, so when it starts to rain we always tend to feel for cats who get stuck out there in the pouring rain. However, sometimes the weather will take a turn for the worse and we can see some beloved little cats getting stranded in major situations.

In a flood situation, like this video shows, little cats are then left at the mercy of the Gods to come make sure that they are OK. If cats didn’t need to drink water, we’re fairly sure they would find a way to eradicate it because it’s like Kryptonite to a cat!

As the streets began to flood intensely in Talinn, Estonia, cats were being left out in the street without anyone there to help them. It’s just a sad fact of a flood – strays get left behind. However, two guys were driving through the streets trying to get out of the storm and get to safety. Then, once of the men spotted a little cat drowning in the flood waters.

As the water continued to rise, the precious ledge that was keeping him from certain death was not going to last much longer – things were not looking good. The two guys pulled up immediately and decided to fire out there to help the little cat. Dressed in leather jacket, jeans and trainers, our hero braves the elements and struts across in the storm to get the little man to safety.

Cars keep coming down the street as he eventually gets to the little man and gets him in the car. Then, the video ends – we presume that he made it back home alright, or to somewhere for the night.

Regardless, a glass is raised to the two brave lads who took on the elements to make sure that the cat was OK. well done to them!

Quick-Thinking Beauty Queen Saves Bus Driver

for any parent, one of the most important things that can be done is making sure your child is prepared for handling emergencies and troublesome situations. That being the case, then, the parents of 9-year-old Addison Hutchinson must be very proud indeed. When our children are put in a position where they need to think like an adult, it’s a make-or-break scenario and, really, they can’t be expected to get it right every time.

This little genius did, though. Sitting on the classic yellow school bus, she was en route to the final stop of the bus and – as was one of the last children onto the bus – the whole place was as quiet as a bus of unruly schoolkids is ever likely to be. However, Addison spotted that the bus driver appeared to be in a bit of trouble.

Going over to check on her, she noticed that the bus driver was doubled over and in some serious pain. Panicking, Addison was asked to call 9-1-1 and get some help out there as soon as they possibly could. Addison, the winner of the Little Miss Antelope Valley 2017 competition, showed her confidence and smarts to get on the blower and get someone out there as soon as possible to help out.

Sprinting home from the bus stop, she got into the house and got out her iPad and FaceTimed her mother. Her mother confirmed she was to call 9-1-1, and Addison explained to the dispatch team what has happened. Within a short period of time, an ambulance arrived and the driver was taken to hospital.

You will be glad to know that the quick thinking of little Addison saved her. She wasn’t suffering from a life threatening illness, but she was in a lot of pain and was in immediate medical need. Fantastically, Addison is going to be honoured again – she is going to be an honouree from the local City Council for her quick-thinking and selfless actions.

It’s a fantastic little story, and shows that when we need them most that children can be far more mature than we sometimes give them credit for.

Domino’s Employee Saves Life in Strangely Epic Manner

For years, we’ve been told to lay off the fast food. Weight gain, all of the excess and the total lack of nutritional value in most fast food means that many try and avoid eating foods like take-away pizzas and the like. That being said, for one man it turns out that eating Domino’s on a regular basis was one of the best decisions that he ever made!

Why? Because he was such a regular with his local store that when he stopped ordering they got worried. Kirk Alexander was a massive Domino’s user and, using it at least once per week for the best part of a decade, was a regular with the staff. Then, he stopped appearing at the store and the staff began to worry.

11 days passed without his regular order, and the alarm bells were ringing. They worried that something may have happened to him. Kirk, 47, was a regular and knew the staff very well and to many he was even considered a friend; a good guy who just loved his pizza. So, when he stopped turning up to pick up his order, Tracey Hamblen, an employee, decided that she wanted to check in on him.

She noticed the lights and TV were on, but there no answer at the door – an immediate red flag. She tried to call him on his cell, but there was no response. She called the local store manager, Jenny Seiber, who then phoned the police. In her 911 distress call, she explained that: “This is Domino’s Pizza and we have a customer that usually orders like every night from us.”

When the cops turned up, they could hear someone inside calling out for help and assistance. Gaining entry, they found Kirk on the floor and worried that he had suffered from a stroke. He was taken to a local hospital where he was found to be in a stable, safe condition. While the doctors could not tell when the stroke must have taken place, they could tell that he was making a full, fair recovery.

He’s such a regular that the staff look out for him. Sarah Fuller, the GM, said: “His order pops up on the screen because he orders online. So we see it come across the screen and we’re like, ‘Oh, Kirk’s order.’”

Explaining why they went to the length of checking up on him, she explained the close bond they share with him: “He orders all the time, so we know him. I think we were just doing our job checking in on someone we know who orders a lot. We felt like we needed to do something,”

So, the next time someone in your life makes a joke about you being “best friends” with the people behind the counter at your local take-out venue, remind them of the story of Kirk and how it saved his life!

Blind Man Finally Gets Vision with Miraculous Equipment

In life, we frequently take the power of vision for granted – if you are reading this now and not appreciating the fact you can read it, you are making that same mistake. However, being able to wake up and see the world around us is a truly massive privilege; one that leaves the rest of us unaware how hard it is to not be able to see. For Anthony Andreotolla from Medford, MA, he suffered from retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye condition that meant, as a teen, his vision became increasingly blurred until, by his 30s, he was totally blind.

However, the doctors and medical experts at the John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, and the Second Sight group, Anthony can now see once again. With the help of a bionic eye implant, he now has a fair amount of vision back – more than he had enjoyed for years. While he’ll never be able to see as ‘normal’, he can navigate through life without the same issues he once did.

With a tiny wearable computer connected to the glasses, they process images and then send them to the eye implant – meaning he can see things in flashes, shapes and general lights. For example, he can tell if a vehicle is a truck or a car, but not the make.

Working as a substance abuse counsellor in Boston, though, his 6-mile trip just became a whole easier. Clearly delighted, he added: “I have my hope back. Once I lost my sight, I was resigned to be blind for the rest of my life. I’m not resigned to that anymore. I believe if I can live long enough, I’ll be able to see a lot of beautiful things.”

The hope is that Second Sight will have a second bionic eye out shortly with better image processing and sharper, clearer imagery again. However, who thought that we would be at this stage already? It’s incredible what can be achieved with technology, isn’t it?

Watch Groom Struggle to Cope With Bride’s Beauty!

They say that on your wedding day, you will feel emotions that you never thought you would have to undergo. It can be a day that challenges the emotions and puts us in positions we have never considered or examined before. For Quintin Reed, 27, his wedding was one of the few times in his life that he has been brought to tears.

Never known for being one to show his emotions or cry too much, he was reduced to tears when he watched his bride, Ashley Patrice, walk on down the aisle at their Cottleville Wine Seller wedding ceremony. He was unable to keep it together and breaks down into a flood of tears and joy, overwhelming by the sheer moment of blissful happiness they were about to embark upon.

Comforted by his best man, he eventually gets it together and the couple go on to tie the knot and, hopefully, will lead a life of happiness, health and positivity.

“I’ve never seen him cry ever.” Ashley told Insider Edition, adding: “He is a complete gentleman.  He is such a thoughtful man! Not only is he a romantic but he is genuinely nice to every person he meets.”

When asked about what brought on the sheer emotional response when interviewed by the Daily Mail, Reed was open and honest: “When I saw her my heart was overwhelmed with joy and my entire body just became numb as I witnessed the most beautiful woman ever in front of me. So much joy really came over me at that point in time.

“My uncle, who was the Officiant, told me to look down at my watch until the moment was right.”

Managing to get it together and to push on with the ceremony, the happy couple tied the knot and set in stone their vows and their commitment to one another that – we hope – brings them immense, permanent joy and happiness.

Despite being a hard-nosed kickboxing instructor, he’s married a gold-hearted pre-school teacher and it looks like they are a match very much made in heaven. Having met at University, they seem to have formed the most wonderful bond and the fact he could barely keep it together when they stood together at the altar speaks volumes.

Congratulation to both of you – many happy returns, and try to keep the tears for special events!

This Stranger Saved Wedding Day from Disaster

When the big day arrives, we have so much to consider and think about. It’s so easy to take the eye off the ball, even for just a second, and find ourselves dealing with a really damaging and precarious situation. In a bid to help you avoid winding up in such a scenario, it’s always important to know that people will in your social circle and general life will be happy to step up on the big day to help you out.

That being said, when Mille Maltby and fiancé Matt were going to tie the knot, they didn’t expect help to come from a total stranger. Mille wanted to bake her own wedding cake so that they could have it exactly as they would have wanted. A very good amateur pastry chef, she created a stunning three-tier wedding cake.

Sadly, when travelling to their Brixham venue to hold the wedding ceremony, they found that the cake had been mauled in transit. Thanks to them tying the knot in September, when Britain enjoyed a very rare heat wave, the cake has begun to melt as the heat got to the buttercream, causing the whole thing to be unable to stand up on itself.

When they pulled up, though, Patty’s Piece of Cake baker Clare Vaz just so happened to be making a delivery on the big day. Speaking about it on Facebook, Mille explained:

“We were quite cautious to drive carefully. However, when we arrived and opened the cake box, it appeared that the hot weather caused the buttercream to melt and the cake just gave up.

“I was a very calm bride and it didn’t seem to matter as I was marrying the man of my dreams and everything else seemed so insignificant. Matt, on the other hand, was heartbroken. He felt awful, as I had taken so long to bake and decorate the cake and I had been taunting him about how yummy the cake was going to be.”

Clare was asked by the hotel staff if she would mind doing a bit of helping out to assist in some awesome cake repair – and she happily obliged.

Speaking on her own Facebook, Clare broke down what was needed to make it possible.

“With time against me, I just didn’t have time to bake, cool and decorate a new middle tier, so thankfully I had a dummy cake which I used to create the new middle tier. I managed to near enough color-match the pink to the original cake too which was a bonus.”

Able to salvage the top and bottom layers of the cake, they were able to enjoy that delectable lemon taste even after all the commotion. The cake was near-identical to what Mille had already planned out, and Clare managed to walk away with a wonderful review and a nice, viral Facebook story to share with the world!

Remember, then, that on your big day even people you have never met before can be the savior that you need, want and deserve!
