Watch: World Record Hand-skating!

The good people who we share this world with are capable of truly horrible things. For every act of barbarity that we see which reminds us we’re no better than or predecessors, though, we get to see someone proving the amazing limits we can take our bodies to. Take Mirko Hanßen of Germany.

He managed to enter the Guinness World Books of Records by achieving a whopping 50m worth of hand skating in a mere 8.55 seconds!

Caught in the act in Bocholt, Germany, on 17th November 2017, Hanßen used a K2 Mach 100 set of skates to achieve the amazing feat. Working with the city as well as family and friends, he set up two light sensors to work as the start and end point. He also used the classic stopwatch and tape measure, of course. Appearing in the 2019 edition of the GWBOR, Hanßen said: “After I was part of some TV shows I want to make the next step and be part of the famous Guinness World Records book.

“With a lot of tough training, I learned more and more, for example, to skate on one hand and to jump over a ramp.”

With immense physicality needed to pull off such a feat, it’s no surprise that this is a record which has taken a long time to match. For Mirko, the immense physical requirements needed to get the job done would be hard to fathom.

Thanks to his dedication to his craft and his ability to train on his balance quality, though, Mirko has made sure that he stands out for all of the right reasons. This amazing feat might take some time before someone even gets close to beating it – 50m in just 8.55 seconds, amazing!

This will likely be one of the headline records for 2019, so be sure to take a quick watch at the video and see for yourself why so many people love to take on this kind of daring experiment. Scary? Almost certainly. Worth it? Just look how happy Mirko looks, and that should answer your question!

Incredible Star Wars Inspired Robot Up And Running

While the concept of building robotic platforms might be the thought process of evil masterminds, such technology is an exciting prospect. One man appears to have taken his sci-fi childhood inspirations to the next level, however. Hampshire-based Matt Denton has put together an absolutely incredible 2-tonne robot that has been awarded the Guinness World Book of Records award for “Largest Rideable Hexapod Robot” – while we aren’t sure on what competition may exist, it’s still a damn impressive accolade.

An incredible 9ft 2” by 16ft 4”, this incredible beast is easily one of the most enjoyable pieces of mechanical innovation we’ve seen for some time. It was apparently inspired by the famous AT-AT robot of Star Wars fame, especially from the Hoth battle in The Empire Strikes Back. This unique animatronics creation is instantly one of the coolest things we’ve seen, though it does strike a momentary realization that this is perhaps just a touch too similar to Doctor Octopus of Spider-Man fame.

Denton, then, makes the Guinness World Book of Records for 2019, with this incredible robot coming to life after a long-term construction process. Running access on its own HexEngine software, ‘Mantis’ is capable of moving at the comical speed of 0.6mph. That’s not too bad, though: the concept of one of these things being faster than a man is just not worth thinking about at present!

A technological marvel

Looking at the Mantis, it’s pretty damn hard not to be wowed by the work that has gone into its creation. The building of it began in 2009, close to a decade ago. With similar machines in the past built by Denton, albeit much smaller, he laid out the groundwork for what would be needed.

Working alongside Jason Lee, who worked on the Harry Potter films they managed to turn one of his old hexapods into a robot turtle …. With six legs.

By gaining the investment needed to get into building his hexapod for use underwater, Denton got to work. A 1.9 tonne version was built, with the aim being to try and get a similar understanding of the problems that would come with the eventual 200-tonne edition that was requested.

This version, Mark II, is just the first improvement after the chall

enging first Mark. Mentioning that he had “to become an expert in many areas!”, Denton spent much of his time reading up on what he needed to know to eventually make this work as he had intended

A childhood lover of machine creation, Matt said: “When I got to the age of 13, I was always taking them apart and rebuilding the and making Frankenstein toys out of two things, trying to make them faster or better or bigger!”

Working at places like Space Precinct, the TV show, and also at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, Matt was able to make some huge career moves: including being involved in the creation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

This amazing story is just getting started, but we’re sure that we’ll hear a lot more about Matt Henson and the Mantis as the years and decades go by. Keep him in mind though: he could be one of the great minds of his generation!

The Four Fastest Cars on the Planet Today

As one of the industries that never seems to stay still for a second, supercars are always changing. What was once seen as the crown jewel of the auto industry will quickly be seen as nothing more than a relic within a few short years. That kind of pace means that we can often pick up yesterdays’ diamonds for the price of today’s gravel.

What, though, are the present fastest cars on the planet today? What are the bank-breaking super-cars on the market that you could, in theory, drive?

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Capable of hitting a dizzying 268mph the Super Sport makes it easy for you to fully appreciate its unique power. Very few cars are able to hit this kind of speed range, and this was able to break the original limit of the SSC Ultimate Aero. While it might cost you a cool $1.7m to get one, it’s still a car that many would dream of driving.

So now that you know what the typical speed point is for some of the fastest cars in the world, where would you like to start?

The incredible speeds that these cars can reach makes us wonder just how fast we’ll be travelling in the next decade and beyond. Is there really any need to go faster than this? We’re sure someone will say yes!

Koenigsegg Agera RS

This number is technically the fastest car in the world, as they can 100% prove their claims. The other two are capable of hitting their speeds according to their developers, but the Agera RS can be seen doing an eye-splitting 278mph in videos.

The Swedish designers behind it have outdone their normally outstanding selves with a special model indeed. It looks like something from a sci-fi movie, too, which only helps to set the fact this is such a powerful car apart from its competitors.

SSC Tuatara

Next up is the aesthetically wonderful SSC Tuatara. This beauty is one of the top American cars, and has become a bit of a specialist in the industry. According to experts, the car is capable of hitting as high as 300mph; a whopping speed indeed.

It uses a 1,750HP twin-turbocharged V8 engine, a whole 5.9l of it. It’s a ridiculous engine power, and would make it one of the fastest cars in the world to drive if you ever managed to get lucky and land in the seat.

The Venom F5

One of the most wonderfully designed cars we’ve ever seen, the Venom F5 by Hennessey Performance Engineering might just be the fastest in the world. With a ridiculous 7.4l twin-turbocharged V8 engine, this can hit a quite silly 301mph. Imagine that kind of speed for just a second: it’s the kind of ridiculous speed that put simply, would just feel hard to really think about.

If you’ve ever seen Men in Black, then the turbo button on their car is kinda of how we’d imaging 301mph to feel like. The Venom GT is another model of theirs, and has been shown to reach as high as 270mph.

A Guinness Record: The Worlds Largest Skateboard!

As one of the most exciting and interesting urban sports around, skateboarding brings people from all backgrounds and personalities to the table. It’s a unique and exciting experience and one that makes it so easy for people to show off their skills and tricks without having to be super-fit. While it does require excellent fitness, balance and accuracy, it’s all about being able to hone the skills and make the most of the moment.

Known for their nimble nature and easy to manage style, skateboards appeal to many people. However, the worlds largest skateboard might just go a little bit over the top with regards to what you might be used to. The largest skateboard in the world is both an amazing feat of engineering, and a feat of physics!

Roughly 12.5x the size of a normal skateboard, this amazing new skateboard is a whopping 11.15m long and 2.64m wide. At around 1.10m tall, too, it takes quite a bit of effort to even board, nevermind drive!

Breaking the 2019 Guinness World Book of Records, this amazing skateboard was made thanks to the “Maker Movement” – a mentality that’s all about creating amazing DIY creations of immense style and unicity. A major part of this came from Joe Ciaglia, the Director over at California Skateparks. Working alongside Rob to help create his normal board in giant size, they used a whopping seven layers of wood to help form the deck, maintaining the shape and décor of the normal board while doing so.

A Feat Of Engineering

Taking around 10 weeks in total to build, they built it from scratch and sans any kind of instructions to follow along the way. Given the sheer size, the wheels had to be made using racing car tyres, and the board needed a steel frame to help make sure that it could support the gargantuan weight of the board.

Indeed, the board is already attracting plenty of attention from interesting parties. People have already come from South America and Asia to see it, showing already just how amazing the popularity of this record-breaking masterpiece has been!

Even the police love it! In fact, the boys explained: “One time in New York we were driving out of Time Square and a police officer pulled me over. I thought I had done something wrong and then he said ‘can I get on your board?’. So he literally pulled me over to take a picture on the skateboard!”

While they’ve obviously had some issues with it – a 35mph collision when going down a hill in Pennsylvania to name one – it’s been well worth all the stress and effort to get it built. It’s been through some damage and needed some repairs already, but we’re sure that this 2019 record is going to stand for quite some time already!

Speaking as part of the Meet the Makers program, Joe said: “It was overwhelming [when the board was complete]. I had the biggest smile on my face. Me and Rob were doing handstands on top of it, we were so excited.

“Being a maker is amazing. Growing up in life I always looked forward to being a Guinness World Records title holder but not having the physical talent to pull something off has given me this great opportunity to be a maker.

It’s been fun. I would recommend anyone out there who has ideas to just try. Who knows you might by the next record holder.”

Watch: A Crazy A** Guinness World Record Breaker

Now, a quick disclaimer before I go any further: this video put me into a state of shock. If you are like me and feel the need to say “Don’t look down” when at the top of a flight of stairs, nevermind any real height, I’d perhaps advise some caution on watching this.

It’s absolutely outrageous, and a video that requires immense fortitude just to watch. Now, I know they wouldn’t show the video if the participant had gotten into trouble…but still. The sheer scale of the height mixed in with the ludicrous nature of the walk itself makes me feel a little ill.

The video takes in daredevil and all-around cool guy Pablo Signoret. Pablo is a legend of the game and is one of the most daring people that I have ever come across. By walking between two massive mountains and a river on just this tiny bit of rope, I think it’s safe to say that he’s proven his mettle.

Insane

Walking it totally blindfolded, too, he goes from one end to the next in the most outrageous manner possible. I’m not even joking when I say that I struggle to walk down a street with the same coolness and accuracy, so it’s a feat indeed.

Honestly, though…. what could possess someone to take on such a risk!?

It’ a truly epic watch, and one that I recommend everyone takes the time to look into. The sheer nerves it would take to carry out such an event is truly mystifying. I was so impressed with his quality, and really found it to be one of the most impressive videos that I’ve seen in some time.

But yeah, you wouldn’t find me near a height of such barely understandable magnitude. What an experience it must be (if you like to terrify yourself with fear of death). Show this to anyone in your social group who, like me, cannot contain their fear at the slightest drop.

World’s Longest Zip Line Opens in The Middle East

While the city of Dubai has been famous for its tourism, in the United Arab Emirates another city, Ras Al Khaimah, is on its way to attract millions of tourists now.

Recently they opened for business the world’s longest zip line, beating the previous record of the monster zip wire in Puerto Rico which was 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) long. This new zip wire is 2.83 kilometers (1.75 miles) long, in other words, it is 28 soccer fields long and located at the Jebel Jais Mountain. Watch the video below!

If you ever wanted to fly like a superman, you should really visit this place. You glide 1680 meters (1 mile) above sea level at a speed of 150 kph (90 mph). The ride is both short and scary.
This 2-minute ride costs $177 but it is said to be worth the money. If you are not scared of heights and have got the money, nothing can stop you.

The ride is open to all ages as long as the person weighs a minimum of forty-five kilograms (100 pounds) and a maximum of 150 kilograms (330 pounds). There are two lines, side by side, so you can ride alongside your friends or family.

The ride is in the mountainous region which gives it a natural view, as the ride was built without changing or harming the existing area. While you are at the place, you can also take the adrenaline rushing cable car ride which is almost one kilometer long.

They also plan on building an ice rink (in the desert?!), a hiking area and mountain biking routes for the tourists to enjoy. Moreover, they are also planning to make a new viewing deck which will be 1300 meters above the Jebel Jais which will showcase the mountains view.

The Emirates have set the goal of one million visitors to Ras Al Khaimah by the end of 2018. Let’s see if they will be able to reach their target or not. Stay tuned!
