Yellowstone Geyser Spits Out Freaky Objects In Eruption

As one of the most stunning pieces of natural land, Yellowstone is easily one of the most beautiful places to visit. It is also one of the most dangerous, though. The home of many a catastrophe waiting to happen, the immense power held within Yellowstone can be hard to quantify in many ways. Indeed, when a huge geyser eruption took place recently in Yellowstone, it was enough to produce some interesting objects due to being ‘coughed up’ along the way.

Over at Ear Spring, the normally quiet hot pool spat out all manner of garbage – in what is the largest eruption to take place here since the late 1950s. What it produced, though, was more of a surprise than anything else.

According to the park itself on their official Facebook page, they said: “After Ear Spring erupted on September 15, employees found a strange assortment of items strewn across the landscape around its vent! Some are clearly historic: they’ll be inventoried by curators and may end up in Yellowstone’s archives,”

What was produced by Ear Spring?

It produced all manner of items from back in the day. One of the oddest items to have come out was that of a pacifier that came from the 1930s. How it’s still in one piece, we will never know. It also spat up a bunch of coins – which will no doubt become worth a pretty penny just purely because of where they came from.

Some plastic knives and forks came up, too, and also a series of aluminum cans were spat out from the geyser. It’s all quite nuts, and can be pretty hard to actually fathom. How can so much be produced in such a short space of time? It’s incredible to see, in truth.

Using a clean-up team to get rid of the items and put them into storage, they found all manner of odd items including funnels and even a sign that appeared to be for some kind of bear management business.

However, fear not: while some are making it out like this is a sign that a major eruption is on the way, it’s not. The supervolcano is not on the verge of eruption: geothermal activity happens all the time, and is entirely normal. Don’t worry, cans and coins being spat out by the ground is – to our knowledge – not one of the signs of the apocalypse, Ragnarok or any other end of days’ scenario.

Watch: Cop Rescues Tied Dog

What a perfect example of the countless times our brave police officers save lives! So many times in our modern society, thanks to the evolution of social media, we are so quick to find ways to judge others and find something to be offended by. Even though the topic of police officers is a valid topic to discuss, because there does need to be reform in that department, it is also very important not to forget that at the end of the day, they are our everyday heroes.

So many times people are so quick to pull out their phones when they find something negative or violent that they can document; however, this video shows that so many of our men and women in blue are always looking for lives to save. Even sweeter, this time, it is the life of a dog.

This sweet dog is the loyal companion to a truck driver. He obviously loves his dog and cares for his safety because he was letting the dog get some fresh air. The thought of how horribly wrong this series of events could have gone gives me chills down my spine. Had that driver gotten up to a speed higher than the dog could keep up with, it would have been a tragic situation. This, however, was not the case.

In this situation, this police officer who can also be described as a hero, acted quickly to stop the driver before the situation turned grave. The sweet little dog was trotting along, trying to keep up with the driver who had leashed him to the back of his truck. I can imagine what that dog was thinking. I’m sure he was beyond happy to see the police officer stop the truck. I’m sure the police department in Yavapai, Arizona is very proud to have their officer recognized for such an easy, but a life-saving decision.

I’m sure the driver felt so bad that this happened. We are all human. We make mistakes. I’m sure he would have never done this on purpose. I can only imagine the “What if?” thoughts that went through his mind after unleashing his dog from the truck. I bet he was even close to tears himself. Those of us who are dog owners treat our dogs like family, and I am sure truck drivers, especially, take good care of their pets. They are, at times, the only companions and company they keep.

The best part of this video is that it’s not just a video about a cop saving the life of a dog. It is so much more than that. It is a reminder to us all. It is a reminder to not focus on the negative of our men in blue. Are there police officers who have acted in haste and let their narrow minds take the life of an individual due to unnecessary fear? Yes, it is a sad truth, and it is an example of the state of so many in our nation. This video, however, is a reminder that at the end of the day these men have done way more good than bad. It’s a reminder to focus on the good our men in blue do and to remember they too, just like us, are human.

Meek Mill Donates 6,000 Backpacks to His Hometown School District in Philadelphia

Meek Mill is giving back to his Philadelphia community just in time for the back-to-school season.

He didn’t have an easy childhood as together with his sister and mother were living in poverty after his dad was killed when he was just 5 years old.  Now after climbing out from the streets, he has decided to give something back to the community in order to help kids face the same life he did.

The 31-year-old rapper is donating 6,000 backpacks and school supplies to low-income students at 12 schools in the neighborhood.

“Growing up in Philly, I’ve watched families struggle to make ends meet and buy basic school supplies for their kids,” Meek Mill said in a statement.

“Those memories stay with me and that’s why I’m committed to giving back to families in my hometown, putting smiles on kids’ faces and helping them start the school year on the right note with the right supplies,” he continued.

The lyricist visited his alma mater, James G. Blaine Elementary School, to personally hand out the supplies to students on Wednesday.

“I’m also a native of North Philadelphia, so to have [Meek Mill] come back and be a model of what it is to work hard and make your dreams come true, as you can see, it’s exciting for the students,” Assistant Superintendent Amelia Coleman Brown told Philly.com. “It’s great motivation to start the school year.”

Will POTUS Trump Lose His Hollywood Star?

For a celebrity, few things can be more damning to be told: losing your Hollywood Star. Easily one of the most important accolades that a celebrity can get, the fact that you can actually lose your star is a major kick in the teeth. Well, it looks like one person might be finally about to stand up to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in the most innocuous way: removing his Hollywood star.

While we suspect that the Teflon-infused POTUS will just laugh it all off and make some wild comments about it on Twitter, it’s nice to see the celebrity world take a bit of a stand for once. The celebrity world is loaded with a lack of fire when it comes to making a political message stand out, and it’s nice to see self-preservation take a back seat for a change.

The five-member West Hollywood City Council has apparently voted unanimously to have the star removed from the ground. While the council lacks the authority to do so itself, it intends to try and send out a formal message to Eric Garcetti, the Mayor of Los Angeles, to see if he’ll do something about it. They also messaged the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the key decision maker, and the Los Angeles City Council, to push for the star to be binned.

Citing all manner of reasons to remove the star, including “disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country,” it’s likely that this will fall on deaf ears.

According to John D’Amico, the West Hollywood Mayor, this isn’t to do with political affiliation, but that the star is an “honor” and that when one belittles and attacks minorities, immigrants, people with disabilities or women—the honor no longer exists.”

Turning Up the Heat

While such superficial battles won’t make one bit of difference in the long-run, it’s nice to see a bit of backlash against Trump. The Walk of Fame star that he has in Hollywood has already been the victim of vandals, and was even chipped away at by someone with a pickaxe. It’s also been spray-painted with Nazi imagery and various other profane stickers, so it might just be for the best to remove the star in the long run.

Given that other stars in the past have not been removed, though, it’s not likely to happen. According to ex-President and CEO f the Chamber, Leron Gubler, it’s not something to consider. Speaking in 2015 regarding the removal of Bill Cosby’s star, Gubler said: “once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

If that’s the case, expect this bit of drama to carry on for a good while yet.

Watch: American History Found In A Dumpster

Sometimes, I’ll find myself sitting around in the middle of the day, perhaps waiting for a parcel. I’ll find myself half drifting in and out of some kind of show whereby people ring through trash and mess to try and find a few items that have genuine value. Most of the time, I laugh and cringe at the absolute tat that people try to sell off at auction houses, with inevitable failure. Sometimes, though, I’ll see someone make so much from a finding that I start gazing around Google Maps to find local sites to start scrounging around in.

While I never do it myself, some people do it plenty – including Max Brown. Max was picking through a dumpster for a part of a community project in Incline Village. As he kept digging, he found an old classic set of 1980s cassette tapes: as a bit of a collector, he had a quick look to see what he had found. Underneath them, he found a pile of about 15 books – well-worn, but very important looking. As the rain began to pick up, he grabbed the books and made for safety. A massive snow-storm hit that night, and wiped out the dumpster’ remaining ingredients.

What Brown did pull out, though, would be mildly life-changing.

After a good few months had passed, Brown decided to take a look at the cover of the books. On the first page, he found the words “from the library of Thomas Jefferson” written down. For three years, Brown spent his time analysing the books and eventually going through close to 220 years of American history to find some answers.

Sadly after going to an appraiser, he was told that these were not real: fakes, he was told. A waste of time, effort and money.

A Turn Up For The Books

However, Brown was later watching an episode of Pawn Stars and came across a book that seemed to match the one that he had found. Invigorated by the contradiction in what he was previously told, he got back to investigating the book.

After much searching in the Library of Congress, Brown found that the books in the dumpster appeared to be re-bound by Jefferson himself in 1818. Upon further investigation, he found that this was none other than Pierre Charon’s “De la Sagesse”, a hugely important 17th century book on topics like morality and wisdom.

Claiming to have ‘inherited’ the books, he took them to Endrina Tay, who works part of the Jefferson presidential library. After some back and forth, it was confirmed: these were indeed the books of Thomas Jefferson himself.

Sadly, he had already sold the books on for a decent but undervalued four-figure sum when he was low on cash. For another two years, though, he spent some time looking closer into how the books had been thrown out in the first place.

All the books he had found, upon further investigation, belonged to the Kellogg family. The books remained in their family for generations, before the trail runs cold at the name of Violet Cherry: a descendent of the family themselves.

While it means that Brown missed out on the chance of holding on to a rich part of American history, he was able to give back a photo album to the Cherry families living relatives. It might not have ended in the life-changing fortunes or fame that some would hope from finding something so special, but it’s a life experience that Brown is unlikely to ever forget.

Movie-Inspired Rides That Have Been Shut Down

We are going to miss these theme park rides. For many years, they have been the most exciting features in the parks. Having a nice ride in the theme parks for your favorite movies is like acting a role in the movies. There was such huge patronage for these parks, so it is surprising that the owners decided to shut them down. So here are the theme parks we discovered have been closed permanently. So sad…

Ghostbusters Spooktacular

We all loved the movie, and it was a thrill to have an adventure at the Spooktacular Show where the ‘ghoulish’ creatures threatened to topple your ride. The theme ride represented the Sci-Fi movie with popular characters such as the Marshmallow man popping out to scare the visitors. Over the years some modifications were done to include the character played by Ricky Moranis. However, the show has been shut down, leaving behind only the memories of the good times.

Twister… Ride It Out!

You must remember the movie Twister, it was one of the best movies of 1996. We expected some sequels to add new twists to the story, but nothing was produced in the years that followed. The show developed with this theme was spectacular. The visitors were made to experience astonishing effects of a tornado while standing on a platform; it was so real. Unfortunately, this park was shut down in 2015. Now you can find the Jimmy Fallon ride in its place, it is good, but we miss the ‘Ride it Out’ experience.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Submarine Voyage

In 1954, the 20,000 Leagues ‘Under The Sea’ movie was the inspiration behind the Starboard Ride which featured a high-resolution viewing. It was opened in 1994, and the visitors were thrilled. The ride took the guests through the adventures of Captain Nemo and his band of tourists as they journeyed under the sea for 23 years. Such an adventure but not to be experienced again.

Kongfrontation

King Kong was an awesome hit in the theatres. The Universal Studios had to recreate an amazing adventure at the Florida Island of Adventure. Visitors could have a first-hand experience of the Skull Island. The show was called- The Reign of Kong. It was a spectacular ride; the Kongfrontation experience featured the King Kong in the 1976 movie. Visitors went on a ride on a tram through the Island to escape the angry Kong. Such a thrilling experience. The show was closed in 2002; now visitors can experience the mummy themed ride based on the movie “The Mummy.”

Drop Zone: Stunt Tower

Paramount pictures joined in on the theme park business by developing their themed ride based on the Wesley Snipes movie the drop zone. The ride was successful with so many tourists queuing up for the experience. The Drop Zone theme ride was set-up to compete with the themed rides developed by Disney and Universal Pictures. However, Paramount pictures shifted its focus away from managing theme rides, and the show was closed.

Star Tours

The Star Tours was based on the Star Wars 1977 movie adaptation. The location of Star Tours was in Florida, Paris, California, and Japan. The ride has now been upgraded to feature the newer Star Wars stimulation with an added attraction where 3PO, R2, and D2 are the hosts. There is also a new robot pilot representing RX 24 also called Rex.

Hurler

The theme parked styled after Wayne’s World is one of the parks funded by Paramount Pictures. The comedy themed show included the puking and hurling experience the audience saw on the show. However, Wayne’s World part of the show was canceled in 2000 when the parks where sold.

There are 5 more including Back to The Future and more:

Die Hard Wins Big Time (Finally)

With Die Hard being written off as a Christmas movie by John McClane himself, fans of the movie are naturally feeling their noses a touch out of joint. A classic Christmas movie for those who cannot stomach stuff like The Nightmare Before Christmas, it’s easy to see why so many people find it hard to agree with Bruce Willis in his assessment.

However, if you are feeling raw about this decision, you might be pleased to know that Die Hard was rated the best action movie of all-time recently. The likes of Lethal Weapon and Terminator gave it a good run for its money, of course. But, how can anything beat John McClane and his perma-white vest and cut-to-hell feet taking on some of the most maniacal Eastern Europeans you’ll likely see in cinema?

In the 80s and 90s, the sheer level of competition for such an accolade would have been suffocating. With the likes of Machete (albeit a comedy in many ways) and The Raid probably being the best modern equivalents, it’s easy to see why so many people are still dewy-eyed and nostalgic for the good old movies.

Thanks to the recent Entertainment Weekly vote, we can finally say that Mr. McClane and his jaunt through the Nakatomi Plaza to save everyone from having a rather ruinous festive period. Throw in the marriage dynamics, the awesome cat-and-mouse chase with the bad guys and his parlay with the coppers outside, and it’s easy to see why Die Hard remains such a fabled classic.

EW voted it the best action movie ever, and it was rated by Empire as the 29th best movie of all-time regardless of the genre. There are many reasons that many Die Hard one of the best action movies of the entertainment era, of course.

The plot is brilliant, the characters are awesome and the bad guy – Hans Gruber – might just be the best villain of all-time. Played by the amazing Alan Rickman (RIP), he manages to make sure that the movie has an edge to it where you worry that McClane might be up against it here.

What makes Die Hard so special?

From the amazing shoeless battles to the smart thinking of McClane to try and get the cops to notice the Plaza is in trouble, there are so many amazing things that take place in the movie. Really, given most action movies are absolute nonsense in terms of the plot, Die Hard stands out because it’s actually a good plot.

Is it mind that a man in a pair of slacks and no socks can wipe out a platoon of some of the worst terrorists in the world? Just a touch. Is his accuracy absolutely outstanding for someone who isn’t a military sniper? Yes, mightily.

Does Mr. Rickman provide us with the best example of someone with a command of multiple accents? You bet.

Die Hard is a special film. You don’t need me to tell you the plot: you just need to watch an 80s masterpiece at work. There’s a reason it’s voted as the best of its kind: it stands out far above anything else from the 80s, 90s or any other action movie era.

John McClane, take a bow: you managed to create an entire industry trying to match your amazing feats on the screen. From Speed to Air Force One through to things like The Expendables, it’s so easy to see where the inspiration come from: the super-durable vents of the Nakatomi Plaza.

Police Officer’s Act of Kindness Goes Viral

An amazing act of kindness performed by a Florida police officer is going viral this week after he was filmed helping a homeless man shave his beard so he could apply for a job at McDonald’s. According to a post on the Tallahassee Police Department’s Facebook page, a witness captured the deed on camera over the weekend.

The post reads:

#MustSee #MorePureAwesomeness We thought the picture was awesome, well here’s THE VIDEO of Officer Carlson helping one of our citizens. #TPD #Tallahassee THE STORY AS TOLD BY THE CITIZEN SUBMITTING THE INFORMATION: “My daughter just sent me this picture and called to tell me the story, I had to share….she went to the gas station and saw this officer shaving a homeless man’s beard. A minute later the officer went into the store and Hannah walked in after him and saw him cleaning himself up because he was hot and sweaty. She offered to buy him a drink and got talking. Apparently the officer was at McDonald’s next door and this gentleman went in looking for a job. He was told they wouldn’t hire him unless he shaved his beard. So the officer went and got some clippers and shaved the man’s beard so he could go back and get a job! I am so proud to live in a community where our deputies and officers are such wonderful people. Good job Tallahassee Police Department!!! ❤”

Kelly Duvall sent in a picture and video to the police department after her daughter filmed an officer shave a homeless man’s beard outside a Circle K gas station on Thomasville Road, CBS affiliate WTSP reports. She explains her daughter went inside the store and encountered Officer Carlson, who was cleaning himself up.

“She offered to buy him a drink and got talking. Apparently, the officer was at McDonald’s next door and this gentleman went in looking for a job. He was told they wouldn’t hire him unless he shaved his beard. So the officer went and got some clippers and shaved the man’s beard so he could go back and get a job!”

“I am so proud to live in a community where our deputies and officers are such wonderful people. Good job Tallahassee Police Department!!!” Duvall wrote. The video now has more than 140,000 views on Facebook.

An update was also posted today on facebook from officer Carlson himself on the department’s Facebook page:

#UPDATE FROM OFFICER CARLSON!! Note: It’s his day off but he wanted to give us all this information.

Ok so everybody has been wanting an update on Phil, so here it is:
This evening I was going to dinner with the family and my kids pointed out Phil (and his friend Lonnie) sitting under the flyover on Thomasville Rd. After dinner we decided to pick up a few cheeseburgers from McDonald’s and stop by to talk with Phil. Phil was surprised and excited to see me. He pulled out the Tallahassee Democrat front page, that had me and him on it, and showed it to me.
He then told me he had talked to the manager at McDonald’s and he was set to get a job but he still needed to get his ID/SS card. I then told Phil I had good news about that and told him I had been contacted by Senator Marco Rubio’s office here in town. They stated they had also seen the story and wanted to help Phil get his ID and Social Security card.
I told Phil when I got to work on Thursday I would print out the paperwork they emailed to me and bring it by for Phil to fill out. They also said Phil could come by their office and they would help him with the process. Phil was super excited and assured me he would be ready for Thursday.
Fingers crossed and hopefully we will have another update maybe on Friday.

We are crossing our fingers hard for Phil here and hoping to see a happy ending to this already special event.

Jaguar Goes Wild in Zoo Escape

As one of the most fearsome animals in the jungle, the jaguar is not a creature to be trifled with. They are rapid, vicious and very much trained killers. For that reason, the idea of keeping one in a zoo or any kind of enclosure feels needless and dangerous. Something so majestic should not be kept in such environments for humans to ogle and point at. Especially when, as this story shows, the chances of escape aren’t quite as ridiculous as they first sound.

Take the story of the jaguar that escaped from Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. The Jaguar got out and managed to attack and kill six animals whilst harming another three. The animal in question is Valerio, the 3-year-old Jaguar. He killed a group of alpacas, an emu and also a fox. While no humans were injured, it’s hardly a stretch to say that they could have been. Perhaps keeping killing machines that can move at breakneck speeds might not be a good idea?

It managed to also injure another alpaca and a pair of foxes. Escaping from his enclosure at about 7:20 AM local time, he went on a rampage for around an hour before being sedated and taken back ‘home’ to his habitat in the zoo.

The zoo itself released a heartfelt statement, saying: “The team responded immediately to the incident. Veterinarians had to prepare tranquilizers and position themselves to get a good line of sight. Once darted, the jaguar was sedated within minutes. We are still investigating how this happened. From our initial inspection, it appears the roof of the habitat was compromised. We are still investigating, and no animals will be housed in this enclosure until the investigation and repairs are completed. The safety of our guests, staff, volunteers, and animals is our number one priority. We are taking this incident very seriously and working to investigate what happened to prevent a similar occurrence in the future. We perform drills annually and have protocols for this exact situation to ensure that emergencies of this kind are resolved as safely and quickly as possible.”

A ‘difficult day’

Marking it as a ‘difficult day’ for the animal care team, having seen some of their beloved creatures die, the zoo’s Vice President, Joel Hamilton, said that there was no plans to put down the jaguar because it’s “what jaguars do”, saying: “Our staff truly care about these animals, not just care for them. We have grief counselors coming in to talk to staff to help them get through this.”

The zoo was forced to be closed for Saturday due to the event but opened again at 10 AM on the Sunday. The zoo itself is a tremendous zoo and does a lot of good work to help care for the animals within. However, such a powerful animal, whilst amazing to see up-close and personal, can definitely be better understood if we take the time to appreciate the kind of habitat they can live in comfortably.

Biggest Trailers To Come Out of Comic-Con

Every year San Diego Comic-Con sees the release of many new film trailers and TV show peeks throughout the four-day event, and this year is no different. Movie studios and television stations hold panels to showcase upcoming properties. Some of what they are showing is exclusive to the con itself, but some are the worldwide debut of some of the most expected projects.

Here are the 8 biggest movie and TV trailers Comic-Con 2018 had to offer.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (season 7)

It’s hard to remember now, but not so long ago the only Star Wars movie or television show we had after the prequel trilogy was George Lucas’ animated series The Clone Wars. The show ran for six seasons under the guidance of Dave Filoni. To celebrate The Clone Wars’ 10th anniversary, Filoni hosted a panel at Comic-Con. Fans came to reminisce but were treated to a sweet surprise announcement that the series would be revived for a 12-episode season 7. Plus the first new Star Wars: The Clone Wars trailer and poster were revealed as well. The show will return on Disney’s streaming service, which is expected to launch in 2019.

Godzilla: King of Monsters

Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla film effectively rebooted the classic Toho monster property, and launched a new cinematic universe that will eventually see the iconic creature face off against King Kong. The second entry in Legendary and Warner Bros’ MonsterVerse arrived last year with Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island, a prequel introducing King Kong. Next, director Michael Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of Monsters continues the story from Edwards’ film. A teaser trailer for Godzilla 2 was unveiled earlier this week, previewing the full trailer’s release during Comic-Con.

Dr. Who (Season 11)

He is coming back. The thing is he is actually a she now and has multiple companions this time around. That’s right Dr. Who, the long-running BBC Sci-FI is back and is changing things up a bit both in front and behind the camera.  With the start of season 11, Jodie Whittaker will be the first woman to play the Doctor, following Peter Capaldi’s departure in the 2017 Christmas Special. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, showrunner Steven Moffat stepped down, with Chris Chibnall taking the reins. Now we have the first look at this ever-evolving show.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald

This is the only trailer on the list that is not the first footage the general audience is seeing from the film. The thing is the trailer is so good and full of details that we can not skip it. This is the second chapter in what is still being planned as a five-movie series, that is acting as a prequel to the famous Harry Potter Saga. The Crimes of Grindelwald (as its subtitle implies) further brings the subplot from the first Fantastic Beasts movie – concerning the dark wizard Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) – into the center of things. It seems that Newt Scamander’s (Eddie Redmayne) story takes a darker and more dangerous turn in this film, but at least this time around he will have the help of none other than Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law)  himself.

Mayans (Season 1)

\

FX’s Sons of Anarchy, a gritty drama about the lives of those involved with a California-based motorcycle club, ran for seven seasons on the network from 2008-2014. And while Kurt Sutter’s Charlie Hunnam-starring, critically successful drama has been done for some time, it still inspires a dedicated fan base. As such, Sutter is returning with Mayans M.C., the spinoff series following JD Pardo’s Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes. After the Mayans M.C. pilot was reshot, the series was picked up by FX and is now moving forward. Now, ahead of the show’s Comic-Con panel on Sunday, the full Mayans M.C. trailer has been released.

Next Page: Superheros on both the big and the small screen.

Boeing: Two Hour London-NYC Flight in The Works

For years, I’ve wanted to go to New York. As I mentioned in a recent post, though, I was more or less petrified with the concept of flight for a long, long time. Even now, when the concept of flight is not quite so scary to me, I find it hard to get on flights to places like the United States.

The time that it takes to get there is just quite off-putting, and it does make it hard for me to drum up the enthusiasm to go. Well, it would appear that Boeing has heard my complaints – they have introduced the concept of a two-hour flight from New York City to London.

While nowhere near here yet, the fact they feel bold enough to say this in public is definitely a good sign. At the moment, the record flight speed was around 5h13m. That’s still pretty damn fast, but not quite as fast as people want to get it down to. Indeed, the aim is to get it even faster than the famous Concorde aircraft.

Boeing aims that, one day, they’ll be able to create a hypersonic airliner that could hit barely believable speeds of Mach 5 – around 3,800mph – meaning that you would be traveling at around 5x the speed of sound. While this is all very much in the concept stage – no name is announced for the aircraft – and that Boeing warns this could be a 20-30 year wait, it’s still exciting to hear it spoken about.

At the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Atlanta, Boeing produced some renderings of the new aircraft to show the world. Naveed Hussain, the Vice President of Boeing’ Aeromechanics division, said: “We’re excited about the potential to connect the world faster than ever before,

“Although technology and regulatory challenges are ahead, Boeing has been studying hypersonics for over six decades, which makes us the right company to bring this technology to market when the world is ready.”

An exciting future

Another person who is very much interested in what is to come is that of Stuart Craig. Craig is an assistant professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering and is part of the team at the University of Arizona. Speaking to NBC News, he said: “We’ve been striving for this hypersonic technology for the better part of half a century, but in recent years, advances in computational technology and materials technology have made it much more in grasp.”

While we’ve already enjoyed supersonic air travel 15 years ago, the Concorde was simply not ready to be flown in the way that was intended. Retired for “commercial reasons”, the aircraft was finished off. This is despite the aircraft going from New York to London in two hours and 52 minutes, 59 seconds.

Sadly, it won’t be until I’m probably beyond the age where I want to fly when this baby gets on the market. For those who love flying, though, this should be a development worth keeping an eye on.

For years, I’ve wanted to go to New York. As I mentioned in a recent post, though, I was more or less petrified with the concept of flight for a long, long time. Even now, when the concept of flight is not quite so scary to me, I find it hard to get on...

Game of Thrones Just Broke Another Record

For some time now, Game of Thrones has been the biggest fantasy release in a decade. It comfortably matches – and in some ways beats – The Lord of the Rings in terms of its overall popularity. People who used to laugh at ‘Warcraft nerds’ are now engrossed in a fantasy collection made specifically for those very audiences. It’s great to see that we’re moving away from a world whereby people who like fantasy stuff are considered nerds – but I digress.

GoT, then, has managed to create a world whereby more or less everyone can enjoy fantasy without feeling uncomfortable. It’s part of the reasons why it has become such a record breaker: people from all backgrounds love the show!

Well, that popularity was proven in the most silent but significant of ways. How so? Because it picked up a whopping 22 Emmy nominations. That’s a record for a TV show or any program and immediately shines a light on the massive popularity of this incredible TV show.

Part of the reason why it is so immensely popular is the fact that it just has so much depth to the characters. With so many people taking part, there’s a character for everyone to fall in love with should they so choose. One of the Emmy’s that it was put forward for, though, is a genuine history-maker – something increasingly rare in the showbiz world.

It all comes down to the work of Peter Dinklage. He was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and is now the actor to have the most nominations for that particular part of the Emmy awards. That’s hugely impressive. He’s been nominated for that role in every series of Game of Thrones – seven in total. That beats the likes of Bruce Weitz and Will Geer, who were all nominated for it six times in the past.

Winning the Emmy in 2011 for the first season, he also won it in 2015 and is the only actor who has won an Emmy award for their work in Game of Thrones. However, he’s not the only nominee. For example, Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau were both nominated for roles as well.

While some people might not be a huge fan of the show, even its biggest detractors can do a lot of work to really bring the show together in style.
