Watch: Daring (and easy) Escape From Police Garage

It sounds like a scene from some satirical or adventure movie, but trust us on this, this is very much real. One very clever and resourceful perp decided to make a final run for it, after being brought to Porter County jail, when the policemen who brought him in for booking left the cruiser door AND garage door wide open.

Sounds too good to be true, but we have the CCTV footage to prove it. A 25-year-old Michael Maldonado made the 100-meter-dash from the garage of Porter County jail in Indiana on Monday, March 26, when he noticed that the jail garage door took its sweet, sweet time closing. Two squad cars arrived in the garage, one holding Maldonado, and parked near the door leading to booking. The officers got out of their vehicles and moved away, their backs turned on the perp in custody, knowing that he is locked in the car.

If you take a closer look at the car on the left, you may notice it shaking and some ruckus going on inside. A moment later, the driver’s side door opens and out comes Maldonado, shoeless and darting for the exit before the automatic door shuts down.

It took the policemen a while to process what was happening. By the time they realized it, their perp was out and free, with a pair of glistening handcuffs to boot.

The footage has been watched over 30,000 times in just one day. The following morning, Porter County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jamie Erow confirmed a statement that Maldonado has been found and brought back into custody.

Who Are The New 2019 Sports Illustrated Rookies?

Every year, people from all over the world wait with baited breath for the Sports Illustrated calendars. For the article of course.

They are among some of the finest calendars made, capturing the brightest and best personalities around the world. While most people love them for the scantily-clad males and females that make up the issues, many love SI for the empowerment it provides to the individual.

This year, though, the SI 2019 Rookies were crowned, and we can now say hello to two new stars of many calendars and SI shoots. Guys and girls –  say hello to blonde-haired Camille Kostek and red-haired Haley Kalil!

The 2019 Swimsuit edition is already underway in development, and both girls are the winnings of the open casting call. This is a new feature they are trying out this year, and both girls certainly fit in with the SI standard. Both girls were part of the 2018 issue in their bid to get into the 2019 Rookie Class, and they managed to do so. Congrats!

Appearing in the typically barely-there bikinis that are standard for SI girls, they made eyes pop with their outstanding intro to the magazine. They were named official members of the new 2019 Rookie Class in Las Vegas. The event, hosted by Danielle Harrington, was a major celebration of all that hard work to get to where both girls intended.

A Dream Come True

For both girls, the work began in 2017. SI was looking for swimsuit models to start posting them 60-second clips of them via Instagram under the hashtag #SISwimSearch. Imagine your job was to sit and vet through all these people sending you these kinds of videos – it feels criminal knowing someone does that for a living and actually get paid to do it!

With over 5,000 applicants trying their hand to break into the SI world, the two girls were the winners in the end. While we’re going to need a wait for the girls to finally get the chance to strip off and strut their stuff on the 2019 issue, you can take a look at why they were the winners in such a massively detailed contest.

If you want to see why SI are so proud of their decision, take a look at some of these shots below. They are some of their top snaps from social media and some of the best shots they have taken. You can thank us later!

Note: probably a good time now to say that if you are looking at this in work, you should perhaps close down this page and come back later. Unless you are the SI swimsuit guy/girl who vets the videos, your boss might not appreciate what’s about to pop up!

By the way, just a note about these two stars: they aren’t bimbos. We’ve seen a lot of disparaging and downright insulting comments as the two girls want to flaunt and show off their wealth. As Kalil said herself: “I can graduate with a 4.0 gpa and the highest honors in academia and pose for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit,”

You don’t need to either be smart or attractive: these two girls are ample proof that we can be both if we put our minds to it!

Watch: Robot Solves Rubik’s Cube In a Blink of an Eye

The world of Rubik’s Cube puzzles has long been a major brain challenge for those who like a brain teaser. However, it’s long been one of the most difficult puzzles, and people often find it nigh-impossible to get it right in a good period of time. Instead, they often take a good number of minutes to tie it all up and get the perfect pattern.

However, you might be pleased to know that Ben Katz and Jared Di Carlo, two software hackers, have got it fine-tuned. Indeed, they built a little robot with the purpose of quickly solving the Rubik’s Cube puzzle. The got the robot to a ridiculous record of just 0.38 seconds – far ahead of the 0.637 record that had existed beforehand.

Speaking about it on their blog, Di Carlo said that: “We noticed that all the fast Rubik’s Cube solvers were using stepping motors and thought that we could do better if we used better motors.”

This new and improved motor allows for 10 milliseconds to be all it takes to complete a single turn. With 19-23 turns being the average to solve a Rubik’s Cube, it would be finished it in just 0.25 milliseconds. At present, though, this only turns every 15 milliseconds!

“The machine can definitely go faster, but the tuning process is really time-consuming since debugging needs to be done with the high-speed camera, and mistakes often break the cube or blow up FETs [Field-Effect Transistor].” Explained Katz.

The project, though, may yet continue: the boys plan to shave another 100ms off the full time it takes to finish the full job. At the moment, though, they have created a piece of history that has single-handedly helped to make Rubik’s Cubes look pretty simple, in comparison to the mental maze that they are in the eyes of most people!

Impress Your Friends: Cooling Your Wine Like A Boss

For anyone who enjoys a nice bottle of vino, it’s very easy to get annoyed at those who ‘do it wrong’. For example, the art of chilling wine is very much a skill in itself – and it’s very easy to get that skill wrong. If you are someone who is new to the world of wine, you may not be 100% sure what kind of techniques work best for keeping your wine in fine condition.

Gwen Ihnat of The Takeout decided to find the best way to chill wine so she checked with a few expert friends of her. Some of her discoveries were very impressive indeed. So, what’s the best way to chill wine?

If you’ve made some plans for a night in with the friends and family, you want to get the wine just right. Long evenings and sunny days are just around the corner – so how can you make sure that you are on-point with regards to the best way to chill wine?

Nice and Simple

The best way to chill your wine, for those with strong memories and attention spans anyway, is to chill the wine for 20 minutes in the freezer. It’s recommended that you time it, maybe setting a smartphone alarm to make sure you don’t forget with brutal consequence later on down the line.

It’s the same for most wines – keeping them in a freezer for around 20 minutes can get it spot on that works very well, though so does simply leaving it in an ice bucket most of the time – especially when dealing with red wine.

Frozen Paper

Another comical but effective method is to get a batch of paper towels and wet them in the sink to get them nice and cold. Then, wrap the towels around the bottle of wine and stick that in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. By this time, the paper turns hard and almost ice-like, and creates a fantastic way to chill the bottle to the point of enjoyment.

The Mix

On her trips, though, Gwen heard arguably the strangest but most effective wine chilling method we’ve ever heard of. Basically, you get a wine bucket, fill it to about half-way with water, and then add some ice in on top of the water. Put the bottle in, spin it around in the mixture and you should get it cold in a matter of minutes!

While getting your water just right can take a lot of work, this helps to give you three simple methods to chill a wine bottle safely, quickly and without any issue!

Real Life Bladerunner Tech: Air Taxis Will Soon Take You to Work

For what feels like the best part of the 20th century, we conquered the art of driving. Today, it’s something that billions of us can do – and something many of us do for a living. Giving people a lift around the world is a major industry and has become a massive part of day-to-day living for most people. From getting you to work, to taking you to the airport, this makes it exceptionally easy for us to get around town without issue.

However, we’re still in the process of mastering aviation and making it more viable for everyone. This is why the introduction of Cora is such a major change for the industry. If you have never heard of Cora before it’s a tremendous prototype air taxi being built by Kitty Hawk. By combining together the power of electric propulsion and vertical take-off, this is like ‘Aircraft 2.0’ in the eyes of some.

While its critics write it off as a gimmick, it’s immediately easy to understand that Cora has more to it than most pieces of kit similar to it on the market. While aviation has often been built on getting more people onto an aircraft, making mass transport of multiple people easier, others want to go smaller.

Living the Dream

Indeed, some people – like those at Kitty Hawk – want to take us higher into the sky alone. Rather than having to hang around the airport and spend all day waiting to take off Cora wants to get us in the air ourselves – where we want, when we want. It would be a like a personal aircraft that you could fly with ease, making it so much easier to just get up into the sky and take off!

According to Sebastian Thrun, the CEO of Kitty Hawk, this is part of a ‘global movement to rethink how every one of us get around every day.’

We have to admit – it’s wonderfully impressive. From the innovative way its designed to how it actually flies in the air, Cora could be the start of something truly exceptional. The fact it’s 100% electric – thereby solving the emissions issue other aircrafts face – takes away the number one argument against the development of personal aviation.

In effect, it’s a massive drone that can fit a person. It flies like a chopper, too, as it takes off like a helicopter. Using the massive rotators that a drone would use, this can lift off into the air without the need for a runway, and fly with total impunity and complete control.

With 150km+ speeds, it’s not exactly a slouch either. 100km can be flown before it needs to be stopped – think how far you could get in 100km. The fact it flies in straight lines and never has to stop at red lights, too, makes sure that those who eventually get their hands on Cora will be able to embark on a new kind of transport altogether.

While it might not be ready for a while yet, we think we’ve come across something truly special in Cora. Keep your eyes peeled; personal aviation might not be as far away as we once assumed.

7 Astonishing Facts About The Amazing Stephen Hawking

Professor Stephen William Hawking was born on 8th January 1942 (exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo) in Oxford, England.

1. His parents’ house was in north London but during the Second World War, Oxford was considered a safer place to have babies. When he was eight his family moved to St. Albans, a town about 20 miles north of London. At the age of eleven, Stephen went to St. Albans School and then on to University College, Oxford (1952); his father’s old college.

2. Stephen wanted to study mathematics although his father would have preferred medicine. Mathematics was not available at University College, so he pursued physics instead. After three years and not very much work, he was awarded a first class honors degree in natural science.

In October 1962, Stephen arrived at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge to do research in cosmology, there being no-one working in that area in Oxford at the time. His supervisor was Dennis Sciama, although he had hoped to get Fred Hoyle who was working in Cambridge. After gaining his PhD (1965) with his thesis titled ‘Properties of Expanding Universes’, he became, first, a research fellow (1965) then Fellow for Distinction in Science (1969) at Gonville & Caius college.

In 1966 he won the Adams Prize for his essay ‘Singularities and the Geometry of Space-time’. Stephen moved to the Institute of Astronomy (1968), later moving back to DAMTP (1973), employed as a research assistant, and published his first academic book, The Large Scale Structure of Space-Time, with George Ellis. During the next few years, Stephen was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (1974) and Sherman Fairchild Distinguished Scholar at the California Institute of Technology (1974).

3. He became a Reader in Gravitational Physics at DAMTP (1975), progressing to Professor of Gravitational Physics (1977). He then held the position of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics (1979-2009). The chair was founded in 1663 with money left in the will of the Reverend Henry Lucas who had been the Member of Parliament for the University. It was first held by Isaac Barrow and then in 1669 by Isaac Newton.  Stephen is currently the Dennis Stanton Avery and Sally Tsui Wong-Avery Director of Research at DAMTP.

4. Professor Stephen Hawking has worked on the basic laws which govern the universe. With Roger Penrose he showed that Einstein’s general theory of relativity implied space and time would have a beginning in the Big Bang and an end in black holes (1970). These results indicated that it was necessary to unify general relativity with quantum theory, the other great scientific development of the first half of the 20th century. One consequence of such a unification that he discovered was that black holes should not be completely black, but rather should emit ‘Hawking’ radiation and eventually evaporate and disappear (1974).

Another conjecture is that the universe has no edge or boundary in imaginary time. This would imply that the way the universe began was completely determined by the laws of science. Recently Stephen has been working with colleagues on a possible resolution to the black hole information paradox, where debate centres around the conservation of information.

5. His many publications include The Large Scale Structure of Spacetime with G F R Ellis, General Relativity: An Einstein Centenary Survey, with W Israel, and 300 Years of Gravitation, with  Israel. Among the popular books, Stephen Hawking has published are his best seller A Brief History of TimeBlack Holes and Baby Universes and Other EssaysThe Universe in a Nutshell, The Grand Design and My Brief History.

6. Professor Stephen Hawking has thirteen honorary degrees. He was awarded CBE (1982), Companion of Honour (1989) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2009). He is the recipient of many awards, medals and prizes, most notably the Fundamental Physics prize (2013), Copley Medal (2006) and the Wolf Foundation prize (1988). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and a member of the US National Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

7. In 1963 Stephen was diagnosed with ALS, a form of Motor Neurone Disease, shortly after his 21st birthday. In spite of being wheelchair-bound and dependent on a computerised voice system for communication, Stephen continues to combine family life (he has three children and three grandchildren) with his research into theoretical physics, in addition to an extensive programme of travel and public lectures. He still hopes to make it into space one day.

Technology Gone Wild: The Matrix Phone Is Back!

Over the years, as technology has evolved further, new phone styles have become increasingly prominent. From people going nuts for Cloud Strife’ awesome phone from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children to the awesome ‘banana phone’ from the Matrix, these often are turned into reality in a short space of time.

That’s very exciting, and the introduction of the ‘banana phone’ from the hit movie The Matrix was a major hit at the time. Now, though, it’s back!

As the Nokia 8810 4G hits the market, fans of The Matrix can now talk like Neo did. But we hope you won’t end up like he did. This new smartphone was a major surprise, with very little detail about it prior to its unveiling at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona. Showing off its style that’s far removed from the capabilities of a late 90’s mobile device, this is a very impressive addition to the Nokia smartphone list.

The old Nokia 8810 was released back in the day, starring in the film and becoming a bit of a major hit on the market due to that. Now, though, it’s back and more powerful than ever before!

It keeps the old shape and style, but now has a bright yellow version. It will be more than capable of running popular apps like Facebook, Twitter and Google Maps. It’s like a half-way house between an old mobile and a smartphone; while you can use Facebook, you can also play Snake!

Affordable and reliable, it’s got a 25-day standby battery life and would make a fine backup phone. Just don’t expect it to be producing anything too advanced; much like the Matrix, the passing of time has buffed down some of that quality that once was so apparent. It’s not going to be a phone for everyone, but fans of the Matrix will surely appreciate and enjoy the release.

Hilarious: Wendy’s is on the Hunt

Wendy’s is an American fast food chain founded forty-eight years ago. It is a popular chain and, like all fast food chains, they have internet critics like any other chain, but the guys at Wendy’s won’t take it quietly. They decided to give the love back to the people. It created the best internet roasting we saw in a long time.

Wendy’s didn’t stay quiet. They fired back at everyone. Including other fast food chains.

And bigger fast food chains.

JJ Snyder must have regretted posting this tweet. Probably, still crying in the corner right now.

Well, let’s not talk about body shaming here. “But daddy you asked for it.”

It keeps going next page, and there’s a lot of “ooooooo” going on…

Inspiring Women We Should Listen Too

We had a good year, though there were some sad events as famous and inspiring people passed away and the whole #MeToo campaign ruled the media. But overall, it was a year to learn new things that will be improved on and applied in the New Year. Notably, among the popular events, we observed three outstanding events involving women who were inspiring and many lessons were learned.

Oprah Winfrey’s Acceptance Speech

The first speech that shook the social media and the general public was Oprah Winfrey’s acceptance speech when she received the Cecil B. Demille Award. It was a speech that generated intense emotions from everyone in the crowd. We all thought it was a great speech that should indicate the change many entertainers and women have been waiting for all these years.

Oprah’s speech projected her advocacy for the confidence which should be at the forefront of every stand against injustice. She commended the #MeToo initiative which was born as a fight against the insubordination and victimization of women in the entertainment industry.

Oprah described a glowing culture which was rich with so many potentials many years ago but the greed and bias of many powerful men in the entertainment industry had eroded the values and plans that had been made to grow the industry while supporting upcoming talents who wish to find a place in the entertainment industry while doing the things they are passionate about.

She said, “And when the new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women…and some pretty phenomenal men fighting hard to make sure that the leaders that take us to the time when nobody has to say to Me Too again.”

It was a phenomenal speech which Oprah began by describing the events that attracted her to the entertainment industry in the first place. She also decried the seeming prosecution of the press and how it had lost its power in righting the wrongs that had been apparent for so long in the entertainment industry. It was an inspiring media moment that will be remembered by everyone for a long time.

Time Magazine Person of the Year

Our second most intriguing female moment from last year was the when Time magazine revealed its Person of the Year as the women who broke the silence regarding the abuse that was ongoing in the media and entertainment industry.

It was a revealing moment which shook the media, and everyone applauded the bravery of these women who gathered together to cry out the injustice they had experienced with the #MeToo campaign. It was a remarkable move by the Time magazine who had effectively confirmed to the whole world that they were interested in sustaining the #MeToo campaign by choosing these women as the Time Person of the Year 2017.

Contrary to the previous scandals which where “swept under the carpet” within a few weeks, the #MeToo campaign had gained a velocity and more prominence with the Time magazines acknowledgement of these exemplary women who had boldly made a stand to prevent other women from experiencing the horrific events they had to bear as employees in the media and entertainment industry.

Peggy Whitsun Breaking a Space Record

We have to admit the third most remarkable moment in 2017 where women shocked the world with incredible achievements is the announcement of Peggy Whitsun as the American astronaut who had spent the longest time in space, not just the female astronaut but the American astronaut for both genders.

The summary of her time spent in space includes a total of 665 days in space and accomplishing 122 million miles which she traveled in space, and she also made 4623 trips around the earth. This is truly an amazing record and an achievement not only for women but also for men. At the age of 57, she also remains the oldest woman to have made such voyages in space, and she has a record ten trips so far in her career as an American astronaut.

These were memorable moments that have inspired many people to chase their dreams and to remain resilient even in the event of obstacles along their paths to success. We hope that the New Year 2018 will be a year that we all achieve remarkable feats in our lives. One thing is for sure, the events we marked as memorable female moments in the past year made a substantial positive impact on many lives all across the globe.

Everyone Got a Little Something. Take a Look Inside the Oscar’s Gift Bag

Every year, when the Oscars are held, we get to enjoy the latest and greatest personalities receiving awards for their consistent success.

Not only is the Oscars are unique and enjoyable experience, it’s also a good time for us to get to know the stars on the screen a little better. After all, for all of our talk about how a certain celebrity might act…we don’t really know them.

We know their characters, and often an actor or actress can find a platform for being thinking they’re cool just on who they were cast as.

Put that aside as the actors nominated can be all nice and friendly, but they get a goody bag. A real expensive goody bag. Let’s see what the little gift bags hold.

While many scoff at the idea of gift bags at the Oscars, it’s a very interesting experience. The idea of all these big stars, who have more money than they could ever need, getting crazy-expensive freebies might stick in the craw a little. So…

What’s Inside the Goodie Bag?

Well, for one, the ‘swag’ inside the goodie bags are well into the six-figure range. A little off-putting, sure, but the more curious side of my personality (and yours, if you are reading this) always wins, right?

  • Chocolatines Jewels. One of the best picks in the bag is this delightful Chocouture chocolate “jewels” that everyone is going crazy for.
  • Delicacies Candy Lollipops. These cute, colorful and charming treats are vegan-friendly lollipops made from some pretty fantastic materials – that taste outstanding.
  • A large crate of California oranges made up part of the collection, with a gift card delivered from EpiFruit, a popular fruit app.
  • Posh Pretzels. As the name suggests, it’s a package of pretzels from Posh Pretzels. Very much worth a look if you like top quality pretzels.

  • Rouge Maple. A little gift bag of organic maple syrup was included, as well.
  • A rich brand of Mexican soda that was donated to the party, too.
  • Southern Wicked Lemonade gin and vodka was delivered, too.
  • Caroline Fleming’s New Book. Cook Yourself Happy: The Danish Way has been a major market hit – even with the rich and the famous!
  • Vaya Boxes. Awesome Tyffyn stainless steel lunch boxes were part of the rich collection of extras being given away, too!
  • Halo Donations. 10,000 bowls of food will be donated by Halo in the name of the nominee, alongside samples, to an animal shelter of their choice.

While the glamor and the glory of the Oscars can seem a little excessive, this goodie bag collection is admittedly pretty awesome, right?
