Logan has Left the Building

Although Hugh Jackman hung his claws as Wolverine after seventeen years, the fans of the X-Men series can rejoice in the fact that his last movie might just be the best in the bunch.

Hugh Jackman, who has recently successfully beaten cancer for the sixth time, says farewell to the character which defined his career. In Logan, which came out last week, Wolverine puts his adamantium claws for the final time to welcome the new generation of X-Men. It is set in the year of 2029 in the dystopian USA, where the mutants are nearly extinct and there hasn’t been a mutant born in almost 25 years. Logan, who works as a driver and drinks his days away somewhere near the Mexican border, finds himself chased by the organization called Transgien. In one of the most grounded superhero movies of our generation, Logan and his “daughter” Laura go on an emotional journey, cathartic in a way, which sees him come to terms with himself and the world. The inspiration for the movie came from a graphic novel Old Man Logan written by Mark Millar and Steven McNiven.

This rare R-rated superhero movie, besides the star of the show Hugh Jackman, has a stellar cast. Patrick Stewart returns as Professor Charles Xavier, while the character of Laura is played by the newcomer Dafne Keen. On the opposite side are Richard E. Grant and Boyd Holbrook, who you may recall form the Netflix’s TV series Narcos. Critics praised the movie, especially for its gritty take on the superhero genre which is flooding the cinemas nowadays. It defies the standards of our usual superhero movie, as it is violent, thought-provoking but surprisingly vulnerable and sentimental at the same time. Some critics even compared it as to being The Dark Knight of the series. Furthermore, they lauded the performances, especially from the Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman, as well as Patrick Stewart and Dafne Keen, who will undoubtedly return in the future films. There was a slight hope that Jackman could return as well, but he refused to be a part of Deadpool 2, which is the next movie in that universe being released in 2018.

The audience around the world also recognized the film’s importance and greatness. They rewarded it with a staggering box office figures. It will most likely beat the record for the best opening day of any R-rated movie. Also, it is heading for an eye-watering 80 million dollars worldwide. If that happens, Logan will be the second best opener in the franchise, just behind the first spinoff in the series X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which earned 85 million dollars. The success of Logan is not something that should come as a surprise to people around the world, as it came just a year after the first R-rated superhero movie in a while in the form of Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool.
Many tears will be shed at the end of the movie, but they will not be in vain. After seventeen years and six movies, a tiresome Jackman deserved his swan song, a final performance, the best at last.

Superheros that Are Bound to Die in 2017

The year 2017 will, without question, be a superhero year. Over the course of the next 12 months, the theaters will be full of amazing comic book movies. However, the stakes are being raised higher than ever before. Throughout this year, many superheroes will hit the big screens. Unfortunately, not all of them have a bright future. Before we talk about the ones in danger, lets get the safe heroes out of the way to ease your minds: Spider-Man, Hulk, Doctor Strange, X-23, Superman, Aquaman, Gamora, Iron Man, Drax, Thor, Star-Lord and Wonder Woman. Now, although in the world of superheroes nobody is actually safe, they have the best shots of surviving this year. Another reason is that all of them already have sequels that are announced for the future, so it will be off beat to kill them now.

-Here are those you probably won’t see in 2018-

A Green Lantern

Rumors are that during the events of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the Green Lantern Corps will lose at least one member. They are an easy target because there are many of them. These intergalactic cops will show in some numbers considering that the bigger threat is coming from the stars. It could be Hal Jordan or Abin Sur. In the matter of fact, it could be someone else entirely, but one thing is certain; Green Lantern will not be the same in this year.

Rocket Raccoon

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will probably bring us the death of one of the Guardians of the Galaxy team members. The one with the biggest chance of leaving us is the Rocket Raccoon. There are a couple of reasons for that. First, the main protagonist is Star-Lord, and Rocket Raccoon is nothing like him. Second, his character is not explicitly linked to the conflict with Thanos (Josh Brolin), like Gamora or Drax are. However, the fact that is probably the most important is that Rocket Raccoon is the absolute favorite among Marvel fans, and his dramatic death will have a strong influence and emotional impact on audience.

Valkyrie

During the events of Thor: Ragnarok, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will have a debut. Nobody knows much about her character, but she doesn’t get many chances of surviving because of the fact that Thor and the Hulk pretty much can’t die. If she does die, one thing is certain. Her death will be memorable and she will go in a blaze of glory.

Wolverine

We will probably have at least one dead Wolverine in March this year. The reasoning behind this is that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is pretty exhausted and burned out and his powers are slowly beginning to fade out. In addition to that fact, Jackman has said many times that he wants to retire from the X-Men Universe. Even further, Wolverine has done so much and it will probably be a good time for him to pass the claws down to X-23 and die.

Professor X

Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier (Professor X) is presented as an old man who is losing his abilities and powers. If you like to gamble, here is one really great tip: Put your money that Professor X will die in 2017. Fans all around the world have already put him in the hands of The Reavers. Charles, you were a dynamic father and a great mentor, but it could be that its your time to see yourself out the door. We wish you the best!
