Will ‘Blade’ Be Back? Snipes Says So

As one of the most iconic actors of the 1990s and early 2000s, Wesley Snipes is a big name in the entertainment history of millions. From playing Marvel legend Blade to running around as the maniacal Simon Phoenix in Demolition Man, Snipes got around to quite incredible levels back in the day.

While he isn’t quite the mega star that he once was, Snipes is back in the big picture with the news that two new Blade projects are currently being worked upon. For those who loves these classic movies, you’ll be delighted to hear that Blade is on his way back – and seemingly ina big way.

Blade? Who’s That?

While I might die from shock that someone has not heard of Blade, he’s the exceptional vampire hunter who spends all his time wiping out these monsters. His mother, you see, was attacked by a vampire as she was giving birth to him, so, you know, natural hatred.

As you may have guessed, Blade is eventually turned into a vampire himself – though he uses a special serum to stop himself becoming a bloodsucker fully. Now, he hunts his new kin from the shadows, and the various media formats follow his story as he avenges his mother and keeps the public free from the vampires’ dominance.

What’s next for Blade then?

A hell of a lot, if you listen to Snipes talk about it, where he said: “There are a lot of conversations going around right now, and we’re very blessed to have the enthusiasm and interest in something from that world again.

“We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world, and when people see them, I think they’re only going to have a problem with deciding which one they love most,”

However, is a world where Marvel moves have come so chromatic and colorful – and full of character development that can often be one-track due to the size of the cast – the right place to house someone as dark and as serious as Blade?

Fear not, as the hunter himself says that Marvel “gets it…the next time you see something in [the Blade universe], mark my words: what we did before is child’s play compared to what we can do now.”

That sounds pretty damn interesting. The original Blade movies rank up there as some of the best around: the idea that they could be coming back and better than ever before is just so exciting. Who knows? It might be a good chance for Marvel to try out something a bit more ambitious when it comes to a more serious, adult tone to their movies.

If they ever try and make up for the abomination that is the new Venom movie, then this would serve as a good way to create a more visceral kind of superhero movie. Either way, it won’t be too long – hopefully – until we see Wesley Snipes taking people to the cleaners again, blade in hand.
